Boyfriend
Because it's you
Minho didn’t remember the club being so boring. Of course, Taemin and Jonghyun were having fun, scouring the attendance while they drank their sweet, low-alcohol-concentration drinks. Minho had decided not to drink. He didn’t quite like the taste of alcohol or how addictively intoxicated he became after a couple of shots. It was another matter that Taemin had brought his car and someone sober was needed to drive it back at the end of the night. He knew Taemin would just call Jinki to drive them back but Minho knew how exhausted he must be after working in his labs. The guy was really juggling too much in his opinion.
He had his stool, taking a sip of his orange soda, letting it stay in his mouth to so he could feel his tongue tingle refreshingly. And that was when he saw him. Somehow Minho’s gaze lingered and he didn’t know why. He stood out– and Minho didn’t quite know if it were his hair dyed into a pretty mess of green and blue or if it was his cute bow-like smile. But one thing was for sure, his energy was attractive and there were many more who couldn’t help but gaze at him as well when he started dancing. He wasn’t dancing that far away from where he sat. Minho could hear him, singing along to the song that otherwise had doused every other sound in that space. He had a quirky yet lovely voice.
And Taemin had noticed his gaze. He followed it to the guy dancing elegantly on the dancefloor. His lips curved up in a little smirk.
Minho had turned his gaze away and had long gotten distracted in his phone, but Taemin had seen him linger enough on that guy. Enough, to drag Jonghyun to the dancefloor so they could see what the deal was about him, to have grabbed his best friend’s attention in that way, even if it had been only for a little while.
Minho was texting Jinki, who Taemin had asked to be on standby in case they needed him. He chuckled at the memes and jokes Jinki was spamming their group chat with and he could already imagine Jonghyun rolling his eyes when he would get around reading each and every one of them. He was distracted by the sound of a glass hitting the counter and he turned to his side, blinking in surprise when he found that guy standing next to him, close enough that he could see the faintly flushed cheeks and how pretty his little eyes were. He wore contacts too. They were green, matching the cute shade of his hair. He grew a bit embarrassed, opening his mouth hesitatingly to say hi but the guy beat him to it.
“I guess those two are your friends.” He whispered, “They were totally trying to set me up with you…and were not at all subtle about it.”
Minho chuckled, knowing that Taemin and Jonghyun’s eyes would be discreetly watching him now.
“Subtle or not,” Minho answered, smiling, “I guess they were successful...since you’re here.”
The guy blushed a bit, clearing his throat coyly, “Kibum.” He said, taking the stool next to Minho’s, “My name.”
“Minho,” Minho responded, “And please excuse those two. Even me. I have never done...this...before.”
Kibum raised his brows, “I don’t believe it. You’re smooth.”
Minho laughed softly, “Guess I’ve watched too many movies.”
“Wow,” Kibum clinked his glass with Minho’s soda one, a little smile growing on his face, “Finally a guy who has watched the right ones.”
Minho didn’t realize that Taemin and Jonghyun had left. He had been too caught up in Kibum, at how fluid their conversation was. There was no denying that he was adorable; and he was witty, thoughtful, gentle and totally understood (and agreed) with his motto (“Violence is never the answer.”). He also seemed to have a little crazy side. From his words, he seemed like he liked to have fun, liked to try out new things but was actually meticulous and careful with everything (quite unlike someone he knew). Kibum was exactly what he had in mind for the person he would choose to date. He couldn’t believe he had gotten lucky like this...or perhaps it was Taemin’s luck he was riding on...since it was Taemin who had set them up. He had only been infatuated for a moment and then let it go. After how their meeting went, Minho knew he owed Taemin one.
He had walked Kibum home (and had gotten a goodnight kiss on his cheek– that spot still tickled). When he was walking back to his own house was when his phone rang. It was Taemin.
“Soooo?” Taemin dragged out that word teasingly and Minho couldn’t help but chuckle.
“Nothing.” He shrugged to himself, getting a little embarrassed at the thought of speaking about his night out loud.
“C’mon, Choi...did you get his number or not?”
“Better.” Minho replied with a smile, “I asked him out to a movie tomorrow. Turns out he likes melodramas and romantic movies, unlike someone who only likes action or horror movies.”
“Dammit, you guys are really perfect for each other.” Taemin laughed, “Have fun dying with boredom tomorrow. Night.”
“Goodnight.”
“Why the hell are we watching this movie?” Jonghyun wondered out loud as he gazed at the tickets Taemin had handed to him, “You never watch these kinds of movies.”
“But you like them, don’t you?” Taemin shrugged, stepping ahead in the queue to get popcorn.
“You wouldn’t go for such movies even when Minho asked you to, at least not without an hour of grumbling...so how come I became an exception that– oh.” Jonghyun quietened when he saw someone familiar walk into his view, accompanied by a certain someone they had successfully set them up with last night. “Are we here to observe them? To see if they are doing well?”
“We are not here to stalk them,” Taemin rolled his eyes, “I thought, we’d hang out together, you know. Kibum will soon become a part of our circle so it's best if we all spend some time together, no?”
“Um...Taemin...you should first let them spend some time together before–”
“What are you guys doing here?”
It was Minho who had interrupted them because he had joined the queue to buy popcorn as well. He caught a glimpse of the tickets in Jonghyun’s hands and he raised his brows in disbelief, “Wow, how were you able to drag him to this movie?”
Jonghyun just stared, his mouth a little open.
“It was not–” Taemin began but Jonghyun interrupted him suddenly, “He lost a bet to me.” He chuckled nervously, “But this is so freaky! You guys are here too at the same time.”
Minho hummed, his eyes falling knowingly on Taemin, who just turned away to avoid him, “I know right.” His attention was diverted when Kibum joined him, holding his arm, whispering, “Did you wait
