Secret 34

My Secret Warrior

It was almost evening and your father hadn’t come home yet which left you wondering where could he have gone to. You went downstairs to find any trace of your stepmother and found her watching the television with her common vinegary face.

Once you were nearing her, you asked the question that you had been thinking, “Why hasn’t Dad come home already? Did he call you?”

Your stepmother glared at you as she spoke, “How could I know?! He didn’t even tell me where’s he going and where he is! If I find him to have another woman, I swear I’ll cut him into pieces!” she yelled.

You disagreed with what your stepmother said, “Dad isn’t the type to have women around him as an entertainment! He has high sense of loyalty!”

She smirked mockingly, “Oh really now? Do you think your father is that loyal? If he is, why did he marry me after the death of your mother? It proves that he is not as loyal as you think he is, kid.”

Anger started to take over yourself, “Everyone knows he marries you is not because he wants to! Mum told him to marry you before her death! So it proves that he is loyal to one and his only wife, which is my mum. And do you know what’s pathetic? The fact that you threatened my mum to let you marry my father. It’s too pathetic that it disgusts me, a lot,” you spat at her.

She looked at you in disbelief. Did her naïve stepdaughter just say such things at her? “Your mum was the stupidest woman ever, that’s why she agrees to me! Like daughter, like mother. Both are stupid and naïve. Saying I’m pathetic doesn’t change anything. At least I have a clever brain and totally not an airhead like your idiot dead mother!” she loudly said those words at you in order to hurt you.

What happened next was totally unexpected. A slap was given across her cheeks; not by you but your father.

Both of your stepmother and you were surprised with your father’s presence. You didn’t even hear when his car had been parked on the garage.

“H-Honey,” your stepmother stuttered as her eyes grew big in horror.

“Are you done insulting my wife?” Mr. Han questioned.

“I-It’s not li-like that! Jinae started it first!” she tried to defend herself.

“And now you’re blaming my daughter?” he gave a killing glare to her.

“N-No, I wasn’t! I-I was just joking! Yes, I’m joking,” she excused. What a pathetic excuse. Couldn’t she think of a better one?

“Too bad your joke isn’t that funny, Jaeri. Now, I want you to get out from my house!” your father roared at her.

If you were shocked, your stepmother was a lot shocker than you, “Your joke isn’t f-funny either, honey,” she tried to laugh.

“Because I’m not joking. So please, I need you to scram from my house and I really mean it. Get out now,” seeing her staying unmoved, he shouted again, “Get out right now, Min Jaeri!!”

Your stepmother grew terrified with your father’s explosion, “I’ll get out if you really want me to but mark my words, I’m not coming back again no matter how you beg me!”

Mr. Han cynically chuckled, “Well, fine then. And don’t beg me to accept you back either because I will never do that, not even if you’re the only woman alive,” he mocked.

Just then, a luggage was thrown right on her face as she shrieked, “What’s this?!”

“In case if you have forgotten, that’s a luggage and I’m guessing it contains your belongings in there,” you answered with a huge smile on your face.

She made a sad face(or more to a pathetic one) as she took the luggage with me, “Fine then. I’m stepping out from this hell!” before stomping out of the house but she accidentally fell down on the wet floor as she screamed her dolphin voice out.

Mr. Han and you cackled together, so did the maids. It seemed like everyone in the house was exceptionally happy to see her getting out of the house.

“Dad, is it okay to do that to her?” you asked your father as you hugged his waist.

“I should have done that for a long time, princess. I know how she had been treating you during my absence and I watch her outside on how she spends my money on younger males and shopping. She really deserves that, dear. You don’t have to worry about anything,” Mr. Han assured you.

You smiled at his explanation. You were glad that the witch in your life had finally disappeared.

After dinner, you settled yourself down in the living room to watch the television. As you were laughing at the funny comedians, you heard footsteps behind you. You turned around to find your father was getting ready to go out.

“Where are you going, Dad?” you asked in interest since you knew well that your father wasn’t the type to go out at night.

“I’m going to the hospital,” he replied.

“Eh? But why?” you felt weird. What business did your father have there?

“I must have forgotten to tell you earlier, haven’t I? My friend is admitted there. His condition is totally awful for now,” he told you.

“What happened to him?” you felt like knowing more about your father’s friend.

A sigh was heard from Mr. Han, “He was shot and hit by a car earlier today.”

You grew horrified to hear that, “I hope he’ll be okay soon.”

“I hope so, too. I’m going now. Guess I’ll be back before 10. Don’t wait for me, okay? Bye,” Mr. Han said as he kissed your forehead.

“Alright,” you smiled at him as you watched your father leaving the house. But then, something came up your mind. You remembered about Daehyun telling you his father was hospitalized. Even though you couldn’t help but to grow disappointed when Daehyun was still telling lies at you, you considered to visit his father.

Your feet quickly ran out your house as you saw your father just entered his car, “Dad! Wait!” you shouted at your father.

He rolled down the window screen as he looked at you strangely, “What is it, Jinae?”

“Can I come along?” you asked him.

Mr. Han stared at you for a couple seconds thinking why would his daughter want to follow him before agreeing, “Oh sure.”

You ran to the other side of the car and you opened the door to the passenger seat before settling down. You didn’t forget to buckle your seatbelt before your father started driving off to the hospital.

Less than 30 minutes later, you had arrived at the hospital with your father. As you walked together with your father after getting off the elevator, you passed the information counter and pondered either to ask the nurse about Daehyun’s father. But then, you remembered that you didn’t even know what his father’s name.

‘I wish I’ll coincidentally meet Daehyun around here,’ you wished as you looked around to see any sign of Daehyun.

“What are you looking at, daughter?” Mr. Han asked. He had noticed that you had been staring around after arriving at the hospital.

You quickly turned to look at him, “Huh? No-nothing, I’m just looking around though.”

“Jinsung!”

Both of Mr. Han and you snapped your head at the person who called out your father. It was Dr. Jung and you couldn’t help but to think how he looked similar to someone that you knew.

“How’s Daewon?” Mr. Han gave an immediate question.

Daewon. You heard that name being mentioned once again. Just who was this man? You couldn’t remember where you had heard of his name.

“He’s still unconscious. But I think he already passed his critical phase but he isn’t stabilized yet. And one more thing, he can be visited but only a person is allowed at one time,” Dr. Jung informed him.

“So can I visit him now?” Dr. Jung only nodded his head at your father’s inquiry. But then, he took notice of your presence behind your father, “Is this your daughter?”

Your father formed a tiny smile at the doctor, “Yes. This is my daughter, Jinae. Jinae, meet Uncle Daehan, my old friend,” he introduced.

You politely bowed at the elder man and smiled at him, “It’s nice to meet you, Uncle.”

“It’s a pleasure to meet Jinsung’s lovely daughter. You resembled your late mother a lot during her teen days; just as pretty as her. Great to see you have grown up well, Jinae,” he complimented.

“She’s the only treasure I have after losing Shinae, Daehan. So I know I have a big responsibility to take care well of this precious diamond,” your father beamed at you before prolonged, “Why don’t you have a longer talk with Uncle Daehan? I’m going inside for awhile to visit my friend, okay?”

You briefly nodded at your father, “Alright.”

After your father went inside the intensive care unit, you were about to continue your talk with Dr. Jung before you heard a familiar hoarse voice.

“Han Jinae?” the person was mentioning your name in a questioning way.

You turned your gaze from Dr. Jung to the voice and you gasped to see him there, “Daehyun!”

“What are you doing here?” he took the chance to ask you first before you could ask him anything else.

“I’m just accompanying my father to visit his friend. I have been searching for you once I arrived here. How is your father, Daehyun?” you asked in concern.

“My father is currently in the I.C.U. I only have visited him once,” he told you.

“Wait. You kids know each other?” Dr. Jung interfered into the conversation.

Daehyun and you glanced at each other before looking back at Dr. Jung, “Yeah since we’re classmates,” Daehyun answered to his uncle.

“Wow. What a small world,” he chuckled to himself.

A crease was formed on your forehead, “What do you mean, Uncle?”

“Jinae’s father is my friend and your father’s friend as well, Daehyun which is Uncle Jinsung,” he told the teens.

Shock was written on your face, so did Daehyun, “So, my father is actually visiting his friend which happens to be your father?” you threw a question to Daehyun as the latter could only give you a ‘what’ face.

“You got it right, Jinae,” Dr. Jung affirmed for the lass, “On another note, I’m actually an elder twin to Daehyun’s father.”

You looked shocker than before to hear that and then you remembered something, “I admit that you kinda look alike to Daehyun, but it’s not that obvious. I mean, I swear I’ve seen someone with a more similar look to you, Uncle Daehan,” you thought for a while as you pressed your lips into a firm line showing that you were thinking hard.

“Who can that person be?” Dr. Jung asked. He was amused to see how you were so deeply into thinking at the moment.

Just then, as in cue, a person walked into the view and your mind instantly got it.

“Right! Uncle Daehan, you look totally alike to Baekhyun!” you claimed.

Both of Baekhyun and Dr. Jung had a surprise expression on their face before looking at each other. Did they look incredibly alike that everyone started to notice it?
