‘The wedding contract.’ The words from your diary stared at Jungkook while he laughed to himself. He wasn’t sure if it was due to the blissful moments that transpired between the two of you thanks to the wedding contract or how preposterous the idea had seemed, even to him.

Jungkook chuckled at the time where he told Namjoon about his plan for the wedding contract only to meet with a flustered Namjoon.

“That’s crazy man!” Namjoon exclaimed and smacked Jungkook on his head. “Why would you want to do that?! And why with her for goodness sake?! You can have any woman you want, why her?”

And to be honest, Jungkook didn’t know why either. He was watching a drama the other day that starred Uee from After school, titled the ‘The Marriage Contract’ and he thought it’d be a fun idea to use with you. But to be asked why, and specifically why you of all people, Jungkook had no idea at all.

“Well, I mean this could be a chance for her and me to rekindle our lost friendship??” Jungkook finally managed to stumble out a reasoning, a reasoning that he himself had found quite convincing.

“WELL THAT IS THE STUPIDEST REASON. Can’t you just freaking talk to her then, you know, like a normal human being?!” Namjoon countered.

“Hey, seeing the way we drifted and how I never really tried to contact her, I don’t think being a normal human being works, right? I mean, c’mon Namjoon, don’t you think this is a good plan?”

“Nope.” Namjoon shrugged his head.

“Okay look, are you in or not?” With that, Jungkook gave his best attempt at mimicking a puppy’s eye, trying to plead with Namjoon.

And boy, did Namjoon fell for it.

The wedding contract

“Read.” Jungkook had abruptly passed you a stack of papers that were stapled together while demanding you to read them. Except, the title was glaring at you.

“A wedding contract?” You scoffed at Jungkook and immediately pushed that stack of paper back into his arms. “Seriously? Jeon Jungkook?” You could hardly believe him or the act he had just pulled.

“You haven’t even heard me out yet.” He pursed his lips as he held the papers in his hands, arm crossed.

“That’s because I know I’m not going to like what you were about to say?” You snapped back at Jungkook. “Can’t you just hear me out?” Jungkook snapped back at you, an annoyed look plastered on his face.

The two of you were now at a stalemate and you decided to be the bigger person. “Fine.” You muttered silently while being slightly impressed that a word was all it took to break the awkward silence.

“Well look, if I got married by the age of 24, which is right about now and should the marriage last a year, I’ll be given 20% of the company’s stocks before I even gain my inheritance.”

You stared at Jungkook blankly because you couldn’t comprehend a word he had just said. So, he wanted you to play pretend with him legally, for him to earn money? Just purely for money? Was he even that hard-up?

“I didn’t peg you for the type to be money-hungry.” You looked at him in disgust as you spat the words at him.

“Not really. I just really need some profit from the dividends of a shareholder to help out a friend. Namjoon. You know him.”

This time, your ears perked up and you were more than willing to actually listen to him.

“Namjoon needs some money, for personal reasons I wouldn’t say. But that aside, I really need to improve my public image of being a womanizer. Getting a temporary wife would just do the trick.” Jungkook gave you a wry smile as he finished his explanation.

“Look, I’m sorry about Namjoon. I really am. But we haven’t talked to each other properly in years, started working in the same company a few days ago and now this? Besides, you never cared about your image of being a boy, certainly not during University so, why now?” You raised one of your eyebrows questioningly at Jungkook, because you were genuinely curious now. Had Jungkook like someone? Why was he only caring bout his image now?

“I know. I’m sorry I hadn’t talk to you in all those years but its not like I never tried.” Jungkook hung his head down as he continued explaining his predicament to you. Jungkook told you about how his reputation was in tatters now and you should already know how he gave up on truly loving someone since his parents divorced and his dad married someone else. And he promised to make this worth your time, to name any amount of money you want and that it’s written in the clause there. No , nothing, but just a contract and enough interactions to convince people that you guys were truly married.

You took a deep breath as you pondered over Jungkook’s offer.

You looked at Jungkook intently. “And if I didn’t want money in return?”

“Name anything you want then.”

And so, you named your terms and conditions to Jungkook to which he accepted readily. You wanted to marry him for only a year and your sponsorship bond was to be void there after in order for you to pursue your dreams of being a prosecutor, instead of wasting another year to work at the firm.

Jungkook stared down at the wedding band on his finger, after reading that diary entry of yours. A few days ago, when the two of you had fell out and you had served Jungkook with divorce papers, Namjoon had asked him why he still had the wedding band on and he couldn’t answer why. But now, Jungkook knew.

Jungkook refused to take the wedding band on because he had feelings for you. He had missed you, and he had been living in denial. He wanted to think, and feel that wedding band on his finger, he wanted to believe that he was still yours and you were his, real or not. Taking it off only meant that he had admitted the fact that you were out of his life, for the second time.

Jungkook took out his phone, sending a message to his secretary to inform her that he wouldn’t be coming in for work. He needed time off, a day off, for the reality of you leaving him had finally set in. And for today, he didn’t want to face you and just wanted to deal with it in his own childish way, by skipping work and avoiding you.

The weight of the ring was crushing against his finger and he felt terrible. He now knew the meaning of ‘not knowing what he had til’ its gone’ and as he played with the ring, he continued reading your diary while the remnants of the wedding came back to haunt him, beautifully.

The Wedding Preparation & The Big Day

“Jungkook! Would you mind telling me where we’re going?!” You yelled at Jungkook with frustration embedded in your voice as he sat you down into his car.

“I told you! We’re going to prepare for the wedding. Remember?” He snapped back at you, annoyed as you were, probably because you’ve been screaming at him for the past 5 minutes.

“Yeah, but you didn’t tell me WHERE exactly we were going?!”

But Jungkook didn’t respond, and the car was left silent than ever, as if your words were never spoken at all. Indeed, it was so quiet that you doubted if you ever spoke at all.

“We’re here.” Jungkook pulled his car up to a empty parking spot, unbuckling his seatbelt while you unbuckled yours before unceremoniously pulling you out of the car.

He dragged you to the front of the store while you double blinked, because you weren’t sure if you were dreaming or you were just taken aback that Jungkook had remembered what you said when you were bestfriends before.

“You brought me to Kevolie? The Hongkong made brand for wedding and evening dresses?” You stared incredulously at him with your jaw dropped.

“Yeah, now shut your jaw. I remember you yabbling to me when we were kids about how one day if you ever got married, you wanted your dress to be made of Kevolie’s.”

You shrugged your hand away from Jungkook. “Yeah, but this isn’t a real wedding. I don’t need this. I definitely don’t want a fake wedding with a real wedding dress.” Turning your head away from him, you tried to walk off only to be pulled back by a stronger force.

“This may not be a real marriage, but it sure as hell is a real wedding, at least in the eyes of the law. So yeah, get your head out of your and get in there to pick your dream wedding dress.” Jungkook smiled so brightly and kindly at you that you felt your heartstrings being tugged, and you just couldn’t resist any longer.

That day, you looked and tried on countless wedding dresses, but had almost rejected all of it.

Almost.

Only one dress had caught your eye and you had rejected all, but that one.

The rest of your wedding preparation was really done by the wedding planner and there was only one problem left.

“H-hey, how are we going to meet y-you know, both our parents and tell them the news?” You stuttered as you spoke to Jungkook about it. You weren’t really the shy type but honestly, when it came to weddings, which girl wouldn’t be?

“W-well, I actually arranged for dinner with my parents tonight and I was going to tell you about it. I even came up with a concrete story for the both of us.”

Seeing Jungkook stuttering made you realize that he was as anxious as you were, after all, it was both your first wedding and marriage in life and to each other. With that, you gave him a gentle shy nod.

Dinner with Jungkook’s parents went well, and his parents were appreciative that you had tamed him since they were worried that given their divorce, he’d never get married at all. His story of how the two of you had met during high school, became bestfriends and then dated throughout university before he decided to propose to you was widely accepted by his parents and they gave the both of you their blessings almost immediately.

And yet, you felt a tinge of guilt. You felt bad and guilty for lying to them that this happiness on their face was brought about by a bunch of lies. Granted, Jungkook and you had indeed been bestfriends during high school but you guys had never dated before. Coming up with a bunch of fake stories about your first date and anniversary together had made you feel extra guilty, especially when his parents were genuinely relieved that Jungkook had settled down.

But as soon as guilt had kicked in, you kicked it away by reassuring yourself that Jungkook would one day find the woman of his dreams and that his parents then would still be genuinely happy.

The next week, you had set up a meeting for Jungkook and your parents. Jungkook had chosen to hold it at a fine dining restaurant, hoping to impress them both and he even dressed up in one of his best suits. However, things did not go as planned or as smoothly as the meeting with Jungkook’s parents.

For starters, your dad was a taxi driver and your mom, a typical housewife. For them to be in a fine dining restaurant meant that even their best clothes rendered them underdressed as opposed to the rest. Their table etiquette wasn’t the finest and a few mishaps such like the wine spilling over the table or screeching sounds made by the cutlery was made.

You could clearly tell the displeasure your dad felt at the restaurant and his mood worsening by the minute. And as much as you wanted to step in, you realized that you could read Jungkook’s mood too. He was annoyed at the mishaps your dad had caused, frustrated at the stories your dad was saying and with every minute that passed, you could no longer take it.

You dragged Jungkook away, confronting him about his attitude towards your dad to which he apologized and shrugged it off as a matter of him being too tired, with the wedding preparations and work. Accepting his apology, the two of you went back to the table, with a newfound attitude in Jungkook. He had been true to his words, showing respect and being kind to your dad whilst he tried to show interest in the stories your dad had to share.

Needless to say, dinner ended on a good note that night and both your parents had given Jungkook and you their blessings. The familiar pang of guilt had hit you and you had tried to shrugged it off with the same reason that you convinced yourself with, that you would one day find true love and your parents would all the same, be happy for you.

The wedding day finally arrived and neither you nor Jungkook was particularly excited about it. Afterall, this wasn’t a real marriage to you. Any wedding jitters a normal couple would feel, certainly didn’t apply to you.

All you remembered was donning a silver, short puffy gown from Kevolie, embedded with crystals on the bust area while grayish purple frills surrounded your thighs. It was a short classic dress that had perfectly allowed you to flaunt your legs.

You walked down the aisle with your friends and family looking at you and Jungkook’s words rang in your head; ‘It could be a fake marriage, but it’s a real wedding.’ And with that, you took a deep breath as you felt yourself beaming with pride. You were happy as you walked down the aisle while your dad held your hand, and you were truly excited.

Excited for the wedding, the cake, the glamor and of course, the joy of saying your vows to someone who was once your bestfriend. You had hoped that your wedding day, would be the day Jungkook and you would become friends like you used to.

As you looked ahead of you, you finally saw Jungkook who was already looking at you and you felt but
