A/N: Because I love you guys, and because as much as this may come as a surprise, I too want Sehun and Chaeyoung to have a happy ending.

Enjoy:P

-Claire

Weeks passed by as a blur as Sehun threw himself into his work, forcing himself not to think about the possibilities of Chaeyoung not coming back. He couldn't sleep, he barely ate, and all his friends were worried. They knew Sehun worked hard for his job, but this was a completely new level that bordered on unhealthy. They knew something was wrong, and they knew it had something to do with the petite, cheerful cadet that had been sent out onto the field, but they couldn't understand the true extent of the problem.

Chanyeol wasn't there either. He'd been sent off on the same mission, as part of the command squad.

He waited for her to come back. He waited and waited, and slowly, months passed by. He wasn't himself, he knew, but he also knew that the moment he stopped working he could collapse, the walls he'd built around his crumbling heart would utterly fall.

He could only wait patiently, and finally, after 3 months and 18 days, news of victory spread through the base. Their cadet squad had been successful in their mission, and were finally coming home.

He waited by the airport of the base, where he could see the plane landing. A group of soldiers, his own cadet class, descended, battered and bruised, but otherwise unharmed. He would have felt proud if he hadn't been so worried. Chanyeol walked among them, his expression grave and exhausted. In his haste, Sehun didn't notice the small figure detach herself from the group and run off. Sehun searched quickly through the faces of his class, noticing that two were missing. His heart began to pound.

He knew the two who weren't there. Wen Junhui and...

A figure stumbled out of the plane, hurrying to catch up with the rest. Chanyeol turned to see them, and smiled tiredly.

"Jun, hurry up. The plane needs to clear the space for the next squad coming in," he called, and the said young male cadet nodded.

"Sorry, sir!"

As he ran to catch up with the rest of the group, the plane's doors closed, and with a roar of the engine, it drove off to the hangar.

He was the last one on the plane.

Sehun swallowed hard, suddenly feeling his chest constrict. The dread he was feeling before increased ten-fold. 'No...'

'Please... don't-'

"You look like you've seen a ghost."

His heart skipped a beat at the familiar voice.

**

Chanyeol frown as he looked around. "Where is Cadet Park?"

"She said she needed to go the bathroom sir, so she left,"

"Aish, this girl," Chanyeol chuckled. He knew that that wasn't the reason the petite woman had run off at all - instead, he suspected it had something with a certain grumpy-faced captain she hadn't seen in 2 months.

He grinned before gesturing into the building. "Go take a break. I need to go make a report."

**

Slowly, his heart thumping, blood rushing past his ears and his eyes on the ground, Sehun turned around. Slowly, he lifted his eyes.

And there she was, standing barely 5 feet away from him, smiling with that same pale blue ribbon fluttering in her hair as the first time he remembered seeing her.

Chaeyoung's lips were tilted into a small, sad smile. "Hey, Seh- captain... Cadet Park reporting back for duty-"

Sehun didn't wait for her to finish. Without wasting another moment he strode towards her, and in the next second his lips were on hers.

Chaeyoung all but melted into him, her hands lifting to clutch his shirt. He kissed her with all the desperation, passion and love he had in every fibre of his being. He held nothing back - he didn't care that everyone in the military base could see them - all he wanted was for the woman in his arms to feel the emotions he was trying to convey. And it worked - Chaeyoung felt light-headed, with her heart racing and chest constricting from the sheer emotion she felt as he wrapped his arms around her waist, pulling her even closer. His other hand lifted to hold her face and lift her chin, and she gasped when he felt her gently her bottom lip.

After a moment that felt far too short, he finally pulled away. Both were breathing heavily as Chaeyoung's eyes fluttered open. Her eyes met Sehun's own intense ones.

"Don't... Don't ever do that to me ever again, please," he whispered, voice ragged in a desperate attempt to never lose control like that again. "You don't know how crazy I was when I found out you left."

"S-Sehun-"

"I love you, Park Chaeyoung. So ing much. And I was an idiot to not have realised sooner, so please," he dipped his head to press his forehead against hers, his eyes softening despite the raw emotion displayed within them. "Please don't ever leave me like that again."

Her own eyes softened as she lifted a hand to run through his hair. "I'm sorry."

He smiled gently as he pecked her nose. "I love you."

Her own lips widened into the most breathtaking smile. "I love you too." Then, standing up on her toes, she sealed it with a kiss.

**Three years later**

Sehun sat back in the booth of the bright and busy cafe, sighing in contentment as his eyes roamed the spacious room, before settling on a particular petite figure, rushing around with an apron and a notepad in her hand. Her cheeks were flushed and her eyes sparkling as she interacted with the guests, lips curved into a beautiful smile.

Sehun allowed a soft smile adorn his face as watched his girlfriend of three years, working in her family restaurant.

Exhaling, he closed in eyes. In the past few years, their relationship had bloomed. The conflict in North Korea had eventually been resolved peacefully, but not without a few skirmishes beforehand. Both Chaeyoung and Sehun had been deployed again, and it had been a stressful time for both of them.

However, since then, Chaeyoung had decided to resign from the military after encouragement from her family, and now helped run the cafe with her mother. She enjoyed interacting with the customers, and she became a well-known and well-loved figure in the local area as the cafe sky-rocketed in popularity.

As for Sehun, he too had resigned from being a soldier, much to Chaeyoung's relief. However, he still worked as an instructor to teach new cadets, which his grandfather approved of.

Both of them were content with their lives together, but as Sehun the small, velvet blue box in his pocket, he knew he wanted to take it a step further with the woman he loved.

He was nervous. It was their three-year anniversary tomorrow, which was when he planned to propose, but he wanted to make sure it was perfect, because Chaeyoung deserved that much after everything she'd been through. He knew he wasn't the most romantic or emotionally available person on the planet - even though he'd opened up a lot more in the past few years, he knew he still struggled in the emotional department. However, Chaeyoung was always

Chapter 21: i cried so much at this chapter although i did think that it had to be this realistic uk even though its a fic. The fact that this is based on military and war, she was probably not going to survive seeing as how she isn’t fully trained that well. Even though the rest of the class was not fully trained as well, she was still lagging behind the others so when you put chaeyoung onto the battlefield…. >< the alternate ending is done really well though 🥺 the happy ending that sehun and chaeyoung deserve. A really nicely done fic!! I enjoyed it a lot 🥹🫶🏻
