A little crushIt wasn’t Soo Jung’s fault but for a split second, Amber hated her for it.
The world saw Krystal as a princess - a diva. People who didn’t know the f(x) member judged her by that resting face. The real Jung Soo Jung was a little shy, dorky, and more than socially awkward. She basically didn’t know what to do with herself in public when not singing, dancing or acting, and her lack of interaction was mostly misunderstood as pride.
But still, Soo Jung was textbook pretty.
And everyone knew Jong In liked beautiful things.
That was why he made a play for Soo Jung.
And also the reason he hooked up with the EXO maknae in the first place.
So for a moment in time, Amber hated Soo Jung because she was the reason Sehun’s heart was broken.
Of course, the main culprit of Sehun’s sadness was Kim Jong In himself - the latter had definitely moved up to number one on Amber’s hit list when SM announced that Kai and Krystal were dating.
Now that the two of them were outed as a couple - where did that leave Sehun?
That April Fool’s Day, Sehun’s world had fallen apart, a cruel joke had been played on him.
Amongst the idol population, it was no secret that the two EXO maknaes were very close, often exhibiting couple-ish behaviours, even in public and during broadcasts. No one openly talked about putting a label their relationship, the lines were blurred between idols, when skinship between the same was more than encouraged, especially when legions of fans clamoured for it.
The two boys hugging each other was the best form of fan service.
Even without being official, Jong In and Sehun were in love, at least Amber - and the rest of the SM population - could see that Sehun was infatuated with his hyung.
And then Soo Jung came along.
It wasn’t as though she just swept in all of a sudden. Everyone had been friends since they were trainees - practically babies. After EXO debuted, it was a no brainer to pair Krystal up with either Kai or Sehun - whatever couple permutation was easy on the eye when you were talking about the three in question.
So on that first of April, the part of Amber’s heart reserved for Sehun shattered.
Because Kai, like Krystal, had to go into hiding straight away when the news broke, he wasn’t involved in the day’s rehearsal. EXO like all well-oiled Kpop machines could perform whether one man or a few men down, even if said man was their lead dancer. Besides, Yixing was also away in China, the remaining members should have been able to depend on their other dancer right? The youngest, most careless in his movements contrasted with Kai’s sheer talent and Lay’s hours of self practice, was still reliable. Right?
“Don’t ask me what’s going on, we only knew of the decision to make the announcement the same time that you girls did,” said Junmyeon. Amber had “conveniently” popped over to see how Sehun was doing the day after. It was her initial plan to check on the maknae on April 1 but she decided against it, wanting to give the boy some space.
Junmyeon shared his observation. “But he looks fine. I mean, he seems more focused on practice than normal but if that’s his way of coping with what’s happening, I’m more than happy.” It was amazing how leaders of Kpop groups, even though appointed by management, more often than not, took to their responsibilities like ducks to water, by playing big brother, even father or mother roles, behind the scenes.
