Don't Wake The Baby

Golden Days

It was two weeks before Christmas and Luhan and Sehun were both excited and nervous. This would be the first Christmas with Mina and they wanted it to be special. That being said, instead of celebrating at either of their parents houses they would be hosting the Christmas party at their home.

The house would be packed with guests since both Luhan and Sehun's parents would be coming over as well as the rest of their relatives and friends. The task of getting their home ready for the occasion was a daunting one, but they made it work. Luhan had most of the Christmas presents done and wrapped. Sehun had also been able to buy decorations and things for the guest rooms and bathrooms.  Things were well on their way to being perfect.  That is until they realized they had forgotten one of the most obvious Christmas rituals.

In the mail one day came a card. A Christmas card. Sehun had looked at it and thought it was cute. He put it on the refrigerator like they usually did every year. Just like that the card went on to be forgotten.  That is until Luhan walked by it. He stared at it appreciating the picture of the family. It was the family of Sehun’s boss. He took in the matching Santa hats and cheesy backdrop. And then something clicked. His eyes widened and he snapped his head to the side to look at Mina who was in her high chair getting fed by Sehun.

“Sehun!” he exclaimed causing the other to look over at him with surprised and confused eyes.

“Christmas cards!” he exclaimed.

Sehun felt baffled. He didn't understand why his husband was getting worked up over Christmas cards.

“Lu…?”

“We haven’t sent out Christmas cards!!”Luhan exclaimed while walking over to Sehun and Mina.

“We never have though??” Sehun said voice full of confusion. He turned back to Mina and gave her another spoonful of her food.

“I know that, but we should this year!” Luhan replied leaning against the counter.

“I thought you said they were stupid?”

“What?!? No I didn’t!” Luhan argued crossing his arms in front of his chest.

“You said last year they were dumb because no one keeps them they just end up in the trash”

“Lies.” Luhan said before going back to the fridge and looking at the picture once more. “It’s cute and I’m sure our families would love one of us.”

“If you say so…”

“I do. “ Luhan said voice full of conviction. Truth be told he did remember thinking the cards were dumb and a waste of paper. But now that he had Mina he wanted everyone to see how happy his little family was. How cute would it be for all of them to get dressed up and take a picture to remember Mina’s first Christmas? He was sure both his parents and Sehun's parents would love it. It was with that idea in mind that he walked over to the counter where his phone lay to call up one of his best friends who had been taking pictures for him for years. If there was anyone that could take the best picture of them it was his best friend Lay.

It had taken a lot of begging and promises, but Luhan was finally able to get Lay to open up his schedule for him. Apparently everyone wanted to get their pictures taken at this time of the year. Lay had been booked for the past two weeks; if he didn’t love Luhan (and the guarantee to free food for a month) he probably wouldn’t have been able to squeeze him into his already tight schedule.

They were now on their way to Lay’s studio. All of them were dressed in their finest clothes. Luhan had been the one to pick out everyone's outfits since he had a taste for fashion, and well because he didn’t trust Sehun with picking out his own clothes. Thanks to Luhan, Sehun currently wore a white button up with a red tie and gray cardigan with black slacks under his coat. The tie had to be a compromise though because Luhan had been dead set on both of them wearing bow-ties and Sehun couldn’t stand them.  He hated the tie too, but decided it was much better than the bow tie and having Luhan pout at him all day. Luhan was dressed similarly with the exception of his red bow tie and the fact that instead of a cardigan he wore suspenders. For Mina, Luhan picked a champagne colored sparkly dress and black tights with some cute little black shoes. To keep her matching with them he added a red bow headband.  Luhan was extremely satisfied with his  work.  He couldn’t wait to see how the pictures would turn out.

Once they arrived they quickly got out of the car and rushed towards the entrance, so Mina wouldn’t be out in the cold for very long.  As soon as they stepped in they were greeted by Lay’s assistant and led to where Lay was.

They walked into the studio and were slightly taken aback by the decorations that filled the space. There were balloons, giant sized teddy bears, trees, benches, couches, just about any prop one could think of using. Sehun wondered silently if he could convince Luhan to only have Mina take the pictures but then realized his husband had spent time getting both of them dressed and it wouldn't go to waste. So instead he peeked over at Mina who was looking at the giant teddy bear in the corner of the room. Smiling he led them over to the bear while Luhan spoke  to Lay's assistant.  As they got closer to the bear Sehun placed Mina on the ground and took off her hat and coat. Mina looked up at her dad and smiled in appreciation. Sehun knew she didn’t really like wearing all the winter gear because it was stuffy and hard to move around in. As soon as she was free and got a nod from her dad Mina took off to the bear. Sehun couldn’t help but laugh at the size difference between Mina and the bear.

Sehun was so focused on watching Mina he nearly jumped when he heard Lay's camera shutter go off.

“Perfect.” Lay exclaimed as looked at the picture he just took. He looked up from it quickly and smiled brightly at Sehun.

“Hey Sehun. Long time no see.”

Sehun smiled and nodded in agreement, “Yeah, it's been a while.”

Just then Luhan appeared behind Lay and latched himself to his best friend. “Lay!”

Lay laughed at Luhan's enthusiasm and patted his friend's hand that were on his chest.

“Hi Lu.”

After greeting each other briefly they got straight to work. They were under a time constraint after all.

Lay had them posing various ways. Some were traditional and some were meant to capture the uniqueness of the little family. They took short breaks in between to give Mina a chance to move around. The last thing they wanted was have pictures where Mina was crying. It went by smoothly and fast.

“Thank you so much Lay! These came out beautiful!” Luhan exclaimed as he looked through the pictures.

“Of course they did.”  Lay replied with a smirk while Luhan rolled his eyes at him.

Sehun paid them no mind as he pointed at the screen to show Mina the pictures. Mina giggled at the pictures and turned in her dad's arms to poke his cheek as if saying “that's you!”  Sehun chuckled at her and kissed her cheeks earning him some high pitched squeals.  And then he remembered something. Looking away from Mina he cleared his throat to address Lay.

“Hey Lay how much do we owe you?”

Lay turned to look at him and shook his head, “Nothing.”

That caught Luhan's attention who had been engrossed in reviewing the pictures.

“What?! Lay are you sure?”

“Yeah don't worry about it guys.” Lay assured

“No come on we know you had to make extra time today to squeeze us in.” Luhan said looking at his friend. He felt weird not paying for the session. Especially after knowing how busy Lay was.

“Seriously Lu don't worry about it. Consider it my Christmas gift to you guys.”  Lay replied with an easy smile.

Luhan bit his lip in consideration before replying, “Alright. But you're coming to our party right?”

“Wouldn't miss it for the world.” Lay said enthusiastically.

They went back to looking through the pictures. They were going to keep most of them, but Luhan was having trouble finding the one they would be using for the Christmas cards they were going to send out. They were almost reaching the end of the film when Luhan found the perfect one.  It was perfect because it looked natural. They weren’t really posing. Maybe it was an in between shot Lay snuck in, but it looked adorable. In the picture, Luhan and Sehun were holding on to Mina’s hands looking down at her smiling with Mina looking up at them smiling to.

“This one.” Luhan declared.

Sehun looked at the picture and smiled. It was a very nice picture. He almost felt like it belonged in magazine with how well they all came out.

Luhan turned to Mina who was in Sehun's arms and grabbed her. He brought her closer to the screen and asked her what she thought. In response Mina clapped her hands making all of them laugh.

“Alright guess we’re all done.” Sehun said smiling at Luhan and Mina.

After saying their good-byes to Lay they all piled into the car and headed home. Not five minutes into the drive and Mina was out. Sehun had thought of maybe going out to eat instead of heading straight home. They were all dressed up after all and it was rare for them to go out.

Wanting to ask Luhan what he thought he spoke, “Hey Lu-”

“Shhhhhhh she’s sleeping.” Luhan immediately cut Sehun off from the backseat. Sehun mildly shocked looked in the rearview mirror and sure enough their baby girl was asleep. After 9 months of parenting they now knew the most important rule for babies. Under any circumstances DON’T WAKE THE BABY. It was the rule they lived by. Because dealing with a grouchy sleep deprived baby was a nightmare for anyone involved.

Understanding the urgentness in his husbands voice Sehun tried again lowering his voice, “I was just gonna ask if maybe we should go out to eat.” He made eye contact with the other through the rearview mirror waiting for a reply.

Luhan contemplated it for a moment and then shook his head no, “She just went down, but maybe we can pick up something on our way. We haven't had pizza in awhile.”

“Okay order it so I can just swing by.”

Luhan eagerly pulled out his phone and dialed the number to their favorite pizza place.

“Don’t forget to order wings.” Sehun whispered enthusiastically.

Luhan shook his head at his husband's request.  Once their order was placed Luhan thought of something he had been craving for awhile.

He sat up in his seat and leaned closer to Sehun's seat coming up almost next to the other in the little gap between the seats. Sehun looked over at him from the side and smiled. Knowing his husband he was probably going to request dessert as well.

“Hey babe can we get bubble tea too?” Luhan whispered sweetly. Sehun tried his best not to laugh out loud. His husband could be so predictable sometimes. Sehun simply nodded and earned himself a kiss on the cheek from his sweet toothed husband.

“You’re the best!” Luhan whispered as he sat back into his seat. He watched as Sehun changed the direction of the car to an already familiar road. Luhan would alway be grateful for the fact that the area they lived in had one of the best bubble tea shops around.

The car slowed in front of the establishment and Luhan smiled brightly at his husband who happened to be looking at him from the rearview mirror. Once the car was parked Sehun gently took off his seat belt and tried to quietly open the door so he could slip out. The task shouldn’t have felt heart stopping, but it did considering Mina was asleep and any wrong move and she could wake up wailing. Luhan felt his own heart race watching his husband carefully slip out of the car. He felt a huge wave of relief when Sehun managed to get out and close the car door as gently as possible.

Soon enough Sehun was faced with the task of getting back in the car, but lucky for him Luhan was smart enough to roll down his windows so he could hold onto the drinks while he got back in the car. They both smiled at each other in triumph before getting back on the road and making their last stop before going home.

The pizza was ready by the time they got to the place, so Sehun was once again tasked with getting out of the car silently to retrieve it. Everything was going well until Sehun opened the car door and some moron decided that exact moment was perfect to honk his horn. Luhan and Sehun both looked in terror over at the baby to see if she was still asleep. The baby stirred and they both felt their heart rate pick up. Lucky for them she went back to soundly sleeping and Sehun was able to get the pizza and get in the car with no casualties or difficulties. The drive from their home and the pizza place was thankfully short and soon they were pulling into their driveway. Sehun parked the car and let out a tired yawn before stepping out of the car and walking over to the other side to get Mina out.

Luhan on the other hand grabbed the keys and rushed to the door to have it opened so Sehun could get Mina in quickly. Teamwork was essential at moment like this. Their hard work paid off in the end because they were able to get Mina in the house and in her crib without her waking up. They found themselves on the floor of the living room pizza and wing box open watching TV and sipping on their bubble teas.  Sehun had taken off his tie and cardigan and rolled up the sleeves of his white button up to lazy to go and change into more casual clothes. Luhan couldn’t help but notice how handsome he looked. There was just something about the way the shirt fit on Sehun that captivated him and he found himself scooching closer to the taller male while munching on his pizza and staring appreciatively.

“Lu I can feel you staring.” Sehun said after taking a sip of his chocolate bubble tea never looking away from the TV .

“So? There’s no rule that says I can't admire how good my husband looks.” Luhan teased taking another bite of his pizza.

Sehun looked over at him then and smiled. He didn’t hesitate to bring his face closer to Luhan’s and kissed him.

“Sehun you are so gross!!!” Luhan exclaimed once they parted.

Sehun only shrugged as he swallowed the piece of pizza that had been in Luhan's mouth.

Luhan shook his head in disapproval, but leaned on his shoulder anyway.

“Gross.” he whispered taking another bite of his pizza.
