Chapter Four

Bride of the God of War

“Why are we all dressed fancy today?”

Yein tugged on the white hanbok that was filled with red flowers that were sewn into the fabric that she swore, it was made out of the finest silk she has ever felt in her life. Sujeong was also dressed in a white hanbok with black linen patterns of flowers decorating her dress. Yein also noticed that Jungkook wore a red hanbok that was not as bloody as the last day yet had a white embroider symbol that she had never seen before that reminded her of a royal crest.

“Today we are visiting one of your friends, they live in the palace of Earth.” Sujeong explained, “After all it is their festival they are holding as it is tradition for them to do this every year.”

“Do they actually live on Earth? Yein asked out of curiosity, and Jungkook chuckled as he leaned in behind Yein.

“No love, they are quite a mischievous couple though.”

“What do you mean?” the young girl asked, confused.

“Here, wear this.” Sujeong smiled and gave her a fox mask, one that had a mischievous smirk. She glanced at Taehyung and Jungkook who wore a face with an evil laughing face and a Japanese demon mask, respectively.

“Come on, love.” Jungkook held his hand out and she took his bigger one and he guided her to sit on a small boat that floated on the crystal-clear lake where she came from. She truly wondered why Jungkook was so nice to her all of a sudden. However, a murky fog hogged the lake and almost nothing was visible.

“How are we going to get there?”

“god damn it, you have so many questions, don’t you?” Jungkook chuckled and sat behind her and lifted his hand and waved it, and magically the boat started to move.

“This lake is enchanted by each god so that wherever that god would like to go, it will take them there no matter where.” He explained as he lit up a lantern and she could finally see his mask and also the people beside her as they travelled through the lake however there was something about them that gave off the feeling of death.

“They are the dead.”

It was like Jungkook had read her mind and she gasped when she saw someone she never wish to see and never thought she would see. It was herself, yet she looked different instead of blonde locks she had a dark raven hair and they were decorated with flowers and her skin was paler than normal.

“Am I dead?”

Jungkook didn’t reply yet he pulled her closer so that she could no longer see the edge of the boat, she tumbled onto his chest and he wrapped his arms around her waist and pushed his nose into her hair that had the scent of cherry blossoms, as he breathed in he closed his eyes as if he wanted to keep this moment to himself.

“Sleep, love.”

As if she was compelled she closed her eyes by will and like a child she heard someone sing a lullaby to her that she found rather odd, because she was sure that Jungkook’s voice did not sound like a woman’s.

***

Jungkook had returned from god knows where but was greeted by Taehyung who was outside of the mansion where Sujeong and Yein were. He was sitting having a smoke while admiring the bright sky when he saw his dear friend jump off his griffon and was holding his sword in one hand.

“You left you beautiful bride all alone in her chambers.”

“Hmmph, I can’t say you’re any better than me on the first night you and Sujeong were wedded.” Jungkook slyly commented and walked with Taehyung while he tsked at his younger brother.

“Did you keep your promise to the human?”

Jungkook did not reply to his friend’s question walked towards his bride’s room. For some odd reasons he wanted to be near her, she truly made him feel happy and content and it amazing she could make him feel like that only within in a couple a minutes when they met. He hasn’t felt an emotion other than the desire for her scent of blood or anger or sadness for centuries since he lost her. He couldn’t fathom why he trusted her so easily as he has never let his guard down in many centuries. Maybe it was because he didn’t expect to hear her response to Chanyeol when he tested her at the mountain.

“You would know the feeling of making your bride cry, it not only attacks you physically but emotionally as well. After all that’s how the almighty made gods like you and me, weak as goddess and gods like Sujeong and Jin.”

“I know I kept my promise to my bride. Besides if I didn’t I think she would have my head chopped off.” Jungkook chuckled and Taehyung couldn’t help but smirk.

***

Her eyes fluttered and when she opened them she was greeted with a scene that took her breath away, a world that she had also believed that was her imagination, a world that was so green filled with flowers everywhere and a bright sun in the sky that was very different to the night back where she stayed with Sujeong, Taehyung and Jungkook. Butterflies surrounded her and birds chirped and greeted her as they swoon pass her as she spotted a peck of blue. She pushed herself off the white washed sheets and walked around the very westernised room as if she was taken to Europe, her bed was grand and had four posts with bed side tables that had lamps on each except one had her fox mask. There was no sight of Jungkook which slightly scared her yet she still stood up and walked around the room where she discovered a table with tea and a shortcake and a chair with a book open as if someone was waiting for her awake. She assumed it was Jungkook as the book was marked with a poppy, a symbol that was used to respect the people that went to war, a flower that was fitted for the god of War.

Being the curious young woman Yein was, she had no hesitation when she turned the golden door handle and went through the door. She was greeted with a dark hallway with a red carpet yet at the end of the corridor she saw a light and like moth she followed the light. When she was basked in light her eyes widen as she saw a painting with several people that she assumed was friends, all were young and she could recognise three people. The small girl with bangs and a huge smile that reached her cheeks was standing near a boy with raven hair that gave an evil smirk in the painting, two children that resembled the god of Children; Sujeong and the god of Death; Taehyung. The last person was a boy with chestnut brown hair and eyes and a smile that was brighter than the one he wore, yet the person he stood next made Yein eyes widen.

It was someone she knew, yet she didn’t know who exactly it was but it brought her emotions she did not expect.

Tears fell down her cheeks.

“Xiu ai?”

The mask that was in her hand she placed it on her face to hide her tears, as she turned around she saw a young woman in a white dress with blonde hair. She was tall yet her face was soft and for some reason she seemed almost shocked for a moment.

“… Jisoo?”

When Yein removed her mask, the woman almost had a heart attack as the young woman before here was someone she never thought she would see again. Yein tilted her head in confusion as she wondered why this woman seemed so shock to see her.

Who exactly is Xiu Ai and Jisoo?
