Piano Heart

Every Cloud

Sehun thought he hated her. From the moment he met her he felt a really strong feeling, but since Yoona did not answer to his plead Sehun felt she was much of a diva, so he decided that feeling was hate. Sehun did not know how to recognize his feelings, even the people around him were not sure the kind of person Sehun was. Nobody knew Sehun had the same lonely childhood Yoona had had. He was born in a very strict family. His father was a fifty-year-old man when Sehun was born, although he was tired he raised Sehun with the exact same toughness he had with Sehun’s two older brothers, one was a twenty-two man studying to be a doctor, the other was eighteen and had recently entered in the prestigious university of Seoul to become a lawyer. Sehun’s mother was the opposite, she was a forty-two year old woman filled with kindness and love for each of her sons, but the first two were cold and distant, so her mother dedicated herself to her youngest boy. Since he was a little boy, Sehun proved to be a star. He was the first baby in the care center to start walking, at the age of three he knew a lot of words and could express himself like a six-year-old kid. Sehun distinguished himself because he was a quick learner; his father was also pleased, thinking Sehun was going to become a businessman, however, with time Sehun became antisocial. He didn’t have friends at school and didn’t participate in events. He spent most of his time reading and learning by himself. His father wanted to take him out of school, but his mother tried hard to keep him studying since he was only fifteen. What no one knew was Sehun could easily understand whatever his teachers were trying to explain, he even could resolve exams that were by far harder than the ones he was given at school, but Sehun was just trying to prove his father he wasn’t going to be a puppet like his older brothers, so he kept missing school. His father finally took him out and forced him to work at a convenience store. The first month Sehun started working in the morning shift the sales increased greatly. Many girls from the school went to buy just to see the handsome part time worker, that’s how Sehun became popular. It was around that time when Sehun’s mother health started to get worse, and right before Sehun turned seventeen she passed away. Sehun didn’t cry, instead he worked hard at her funeral, serving food and water for everyone. His brothers talked to him and offered to pay for his tuition if he wanted to go to university, but Sehun refused the idea. He had talked to his mother a week before, and had promised her he would work hard to be happy, and going to school to become a business man was not what he wanted, so Sehun decided to travel instead. The last day of work at the store a man came and gave him his card. He said he had heard about the handsome boy of the convenience store and was interested in casting him. Sehun made the audition just for fun, he had nothing to lose, but as soon as he entered the building of big rooms he decided that was where he belonged. He knew nothing about singing or dancing, but he was sure he was born to be a performer even with his antisocial personality he felt the best showing his feeling through music, wether it was singing or dancing. Many thought Sehun passed the audition because he was good looking, but the president of the company decided to give him an opportunity because of his interview, where Sehun revealed to be a hardworking guy with the intention to succeed no matter what. Around that time a lot of the groups SM had produced were disbanding so the company was looking for people willing to stay in the business for more than a couple of years.

Sehun was rapidly placed in a group of eleven boys, some of them Chinese. Being an introverted, Sehun had a rough time to bond with the others, but as time passed, he rapidly became friend with Jongin and Baekhyun, the best dancer and singer of the group, he loved staying with them until late trying to learn as much as possible, later Yoona would tell him the secret to a great performance was not the technical aspect but the feeling you put into it. Sehun kept working until, after a year of being trainee and some changes in the original line up, the company told the group of boys they were going to debut under the name of EXO. While everyone was excited Sehun felt a big weight was put over his shoulders. He had chosen a path where he knew he couldn’t be a star. Opposite to the good learner he was in school, no matter how hard he tried Sehun was not a good artist, so he kept working until the last minute before his debut.

An hour before their presentation Yoona arrived at the studio, when she saw Sehun she smiled ashamed. Sehun bowed angry. He felt a mix of hate and respect for the woman in front of him. The company announced them Yoona was going to sing before, and then she was going to present them. Sehun found later that Yoona herself asked to be the MC of their debut show because she felt bad the way she had treated Sehun the first time she met him. While everyone was getting ready backstage, Sehun went to back of the scenario and breathe in a couple of times. “Try to live every minute of it, so when you look back you can remember the exact feeling you have right now” Yoona said smiling widely. Sehun had that feeling again, like a bunch of notes of a piano playing at the same time in his heart. He pretended not to listen. “What you do today is going to determine if I become your teacher or no. This might sound bad, but I need to see if you have what it takes to be my student. Good luck” As Yoona walked away Sehun felt the keys of his piano heart slowing bit by bit. His heart raced again when he was finally in the stage. He followed Yoona’s advice and instead of focusing on the technical aspect he decided to remember every moment of the two hours he spent singing and dancing. When he finished he hated her even more because she was right, he felt truly happy that night. When EXO was finally resting Yoona entered to congratulate them. She shook hands with each one of them, and when it was Sehun’s turn she put a piece of paper in his hand. “Come tomorrow at eight in the morning to the dance room”. The next day, when Sehun arrived at 8:05, Yoona was already there and gave him a lecture. Sehun hated himself this time. He was never late but that day he had the urge to shower two times, pick a good outfit and fix his hair. “Starting tomorrow, each day of the week we are going to see each other at six in the morning, since our schedules start at nine, so you will have three hours of practice with me. If you come late I’ll leave, so you can count that session as missed. If you start coming late I will stop teaching you. We’ll leave fifteen minutes before and you can’t tell anyone about our sessions. If you think you need extra help tell me and we can work on a specific aspect at night, but that will only be on special occasions, like a sudden presentation or the recording for a CF or something like that, understood?” Sehun nodded, feeling a bit of hate again, she was just like his father, strict and emotionless, but she was right in one thing, only she could help him. “Why you changed your mind? What made you decide to be my coach?” Sehun asked when Yoona finished explaining the rules. “Because you have determination, and that’s the only thing I need to teach someone” Yoona replied stretching her muscles. The first three days were terrible. Yoona and Sehun barely spoke to each other for other than questions and instructions. After a week Sehun thought he not only disliked her but he really really hated her. He felt he was learning useless things. Yoona first thought him to speak properly. Sehun spent two weeks doing mouth exercises. Repeating a bunch of words without meaning, but when his monthly review came, his rap teacher praised him saying he was getting better diction. Three months after the first lesson, when Sehun finally had the courage t ask Yoona to teach him about music Yoona turned around. “I was just waiting for you to ask” She replied, then she told him in that business no one read minds so if he wanted something he would have to step up and ask for it.

“Do you play the piano?” Yoona asked opening the beautiful instrument she had in front.

“A bit” Yoona smirked at Sehun’s answer, he felt his hate increase, was she really laughing at him?

“A bit is enough. You are going to be my left hand, so whatever I play you have to come up with the right chords, understand?” Sehun nodded rather afraid than enthusiastic. He thought after that Yoona was going to give up on him once she heard him play. Yoona started with a sad melody that Sehun decided to play along until sixteen notes later. When Sehun started the companion Yoona smiled satisfied, it sounded pretty good, so Yoona decided to change to something a bit more romantic, Sehun followed perfectly, that was when Yoona got excited and played a song rather funny. Sehun never felt a lesson he had received from Yoona was so easy and exciting. His fingers played whatever and the match with Yoona’s melody was perfect. Suddenly Yoona changed the pace, and even at that time Sehun played perfectly, Yoona laughed impressed, Sehun smiled for the first time since he met her and they kept playing having the time of their lives, until Sehun stopped letting Yoona have a brief solo for twenty seconds before playing what they had played at the beginning to end the song. They were so connected it was like they were reading the music out of music sheet. They went to sadness again and Sehun turned to see Yoona. He saw the face of the beautiful Im Yoona distorted into an almost crying face, even closing her eyes and pressing each key with sorrow. Sehun couldn’t stop looking at her for the rest of the song, until they finished, in a perfect synchronization of the other’s movements. When they ended their duet Yoona stood up and smiled with a sad smile. “You did really good Sehun, I have no doubts you are going to be a big star because you know how to use your heart” Yoona then approached him and caressed his face. “You are amazing” She told him smiling. “Now go. Just because you did really good, you are free for today”

As Sehun walked out the room he felt his piano heart playing really loud again, just this time it wasn’t a messy song, but a beautiful melody like the one he had played few minutes ago with Yoona. That was when he understood he didn’t hate nor dislike her, he really truly liked her because he understood her pain, he did since he first heard her playing a song written for a not corresponded love, when his heart first starting playing the chords of a messy song, now those chords had transformed into a beautiful melody that was dedicated to Yoona and only Yoona, that’s why when he stepped out of the practice room he started to breathe heavily, then he smiled widely and lastly he laughed like crazy. He looked outside the building and the sun was still hidden behind the stars of an early morning.

He turned around to return to the room where Yoona was; he had the urge to be with her and not leaving her alone. He was already giving the first steps in that direction when someone smartly engaged his arm around hers.

“Oppa, wanna go have breakfast with me? I didn’t know you were here so early in the morning” A young beautiful girl said smiling. At that time Yoona went out of the practice room and saw the young couple linking arms. Sehun tried to release his arm but the girl refused.

“Morning Irene, morning Sehun” Yoona said bowing. The keys of his piano heart starting playing again and while Irene bowed back Sehun smiled remembering his duet with the angel of the nation a few minutes ago.

“Ready? I really wanna have French breakfast. What about Chocolat? It’s your favorite. Plus, today is my treat” Donghae appeared and hugged Yoona while deciding where to take her to have breakfast. When Sehun saw his hand placed over Yoona’s back he finally learned how to distinguish an emotion.

“Jealousy” Sehun said quietly looking Yoona walking away with Donghae.

Chapter 5: This is amazing!! I love how you let their love grew beautifully rather than making them fell in love for first time and it was all HEA. This is much more realistic. Though Yul is my bae in snsd i kind of understand why you make her personality like this in here. All the best author-nim.. can't wait to read nect chapter.
