Love On Fire: ONE SHOTS

If You’re Happy, Stay
Jimin & Rose One Shot

“Ladies and Gentlemen welcome to Inchon airport. Local time is 11:15am and temperature is 24 degrees F.”

Rose massaged her temples when she heard the flight attendant spoke. She carried her handbag and followed the other passengers out of the plane. She walks groggily to the waiting area to get her luggage.

It’s been 5 years since she visited Korea and that was when she went to her grandfather’s funeral. Now, she’s coming to attend to a wedding. Just last night when she and Jennie were talking, she couldn’t help but get excited. She’s never been to Busan and she heard that there are lots to do there because the province was busy and the culture is rich. They were supposed to go with Lisa and Jisoo but the other girls are busy with finals so they couldn’t make it.

She shook her arms off to get rid of its numbness. She slept a lot during the plane ride and she doesn’t know if this headache of hers will stay until tomorrow. It better not.

She was reaching for her guitar at the luggage counter but she couldn’t make it because her arms were short. Thankfully, some guy grabbed it for her. He was talking to someone on the phone and just smiled politely at her.

“Thanks,” She uttered.

Before she goes to Busan, she’ll have to see Jennie in Seoul first. She was walking towards the car service her friend arranged for her when she saw the guy who helped her argue with someone on the phone.

“HOW CAN YOU STOOD ME UP? YOUR PARENTS ARE EXPECTING YOU TO ACCOMPANY ME TO BUSAN…HELLO?”

Rose’s attention was suddenly on the guy who looks like he’s about to choke anyone. And what’s this, he’s going to Busan too? The guy looked like he came from a business trip judging from the suit he was wearing. He’s pretty tall and lean. His eyes are small and his nose is thin and slightly crooked. For lack of a better term, he’s what you call handsome.

“YAAA JENNIE!?!”

Rose furrowed her eyebrows at the mention of her friend’s name. She was about to go up to him when she felt her phone vibrate. She picked up her phone and answered Jennie’s call.

“Hey bae, where are you?” – Jennie.

“I’m about to get in the car.” She said looking back at the guy whowas now hailing a cab. She then gets in the car and talked to Jennie.

“What time are we expected to be there again?”

“Mom said the dinner will start at 6 but dress rehearsal will be…3pm. So get your Aussie here fast. I’m hanging up now, the food is served. See you.”

“Okay, bye.”

After almost an hour of the trip, she finally met Jennie at some restaurant in Seoul.

“Rose, hey how are you?” Jennie welcomed Rose with a hug. “Did you have a good flight?”

“Flight’s okay. I’m sleepy but excited, I guess I’m fine then. How about you unnie?”

“I’m good. I didn’t expect my brother would fall in love actually. I wonder what Sungkyung unnie found so great about him. He’s always been a prankster to me. If anything, I’m so glad I’m free from his diabolical crimes.”

“From what I’m seeing, it looks like you’re missing your brother.”
“Oh please…” Jennie sipped her tea but looks down. Rose could tell that Jennie is fond of her brother, even though she tells her otherwise.

“So, how’re we going to get to Busan?” Rose said changing the subject. “I really wanted to see the beach.”

Rose saw Jennie glance at her watch.

“We’ll take oppa’s chopper. We wouldn’t want to be late. Sorry but, you’ll have to fly again.” Jennie said scrunching her face as if teasing her.

“It’s fine. I’ll just sleep through it.” She said thinking about her head aching already.

“Wow, she’s so pretty here…look at her.” Jennie said showing Rose the picture of her sister-in-law to be. “She’s too good for him, gosh this lucky bastard.”

They talked about the wedding and ate their meal before heading to a rooftop where they’ll be picked up by their ride.

“HUWAAAAAAAAAA, LOOK AT THE BEACH!!!”

Jennie laughed at Rose’s reaction. The moment they arrived at Haeundae, Rose did not gave her a chance to change her outfit. They immediately run to the sea once they finished logging in the concierge.

“I don’t know whether or not to be embarrassed with you here. Aigoo, what to do with you Chaeyoung Park? Your future boyfriend will die of your cuteness.”

Rose just ignored her and giggled.

She spend a good 15 minutes of just admiring the ocean and playing in the shore before she told Jennie that they can go back to the hotel again.

When they got back, she saw Jennie’s parents and greeted them hello. She and Jennie changed their clothes accordingly for the dress rehearsal. As they entered the rehearsal hall to meet the bridesmaids and groomsmen, they chatted about their itinerary for the weekend.

“I think I want to tour you in Chungnyeolsa…or the Busan Museum. OMG you’ll love that…oh and – ”

Jennie stopped talking when they felt someone’s presence in front of them. Rose gasps when she realized that this was the guy at the airport earlier.

“Sh-t,” Jennie cursed and gritted her teeth.

“Good to see you too Jen-jen.”

Rose heard the bitterness in the guy’s voice when he spoke her name.

“Unnie?” She faced Jennie and looked at the guy who was staring daggers at her friend.

Rose knows Jennie could be a little unbearable with guys…but with this kind of guy she’s not too sure anymore if her friend can handle him.

“You shouldn’t have come here.” Jennie said in a low voice almost a whisper.

“Tch. I’m the best man, how can I miss this?” He smirked. “Plus, spending time with my fiancée wouldn’t also be bad. I always look forward to days like this.” He hummed while her face.

“I’m not your fiancée.” Jennie spat and walks away when the bride and groom-to-be entered.

“O Sis?” Joohyuk called when he saw her going out the hall. Then the guy followed Jennie out.

“Wonwoo, what-”

“Just a sec, hyung,” He said and darted out.

Rose watched Joohyuk look over to where the two head out. She also saw how his bride, Sungkyung held his hand tightly and gently tugged him towards herself.

“Yah, let the kids be. You said you’re not a protective brother. You’re such a bad liar.”

“YAA, I’m not protective and I’m not lying! Tss.”

“You’re just afraid they’ll discover that you’re actually a cinnamon roll.”

“Shut up.”

“Did you just tell your bride to shut up!?!”

Rose giggled watching the two. This got Joohyuk’s attention.

“O, Chaeyoungie, you made it!” Joohyuk said giving her a light pat on the head. She saw Sungkyung smiling brightly at her.

“Baby, this is Chaeyoung Park, a family friend…Chaeyoungie, this is my bride Sungkyung Park. Are you sure you’re not related?”

“Hi Chaeyoung,” Sungkyung greeted her. “His jokes are getting really lame because he’s trying to be like me.”

“Wo-wo-woah, and what is that? Chicken?”

“See what I mean?”

Rose laughed along with the couple. “It’s nice to see you finally settling down Sunbae. You two look good together.”

The wedding coordinator called the couple and said that the rehearsal was about to start.

“Alright, we’ll be right back Chaeyoungie. Are you going to be alright here? Where is Jendeukie and Wonwoo…” Joohyuk sighed.

“Oh, don’t worry. You guys go ahead, I’ll be fine here.”

She watched Sungkyung searched and called someone who’s at the other end of the hall.

“Pssst, Hyunie, come here!”

A guy who was slightly taller than Sungkyung who has a mochi face smiled and stood before her.

“Chaeyoung, this is Jihyun, he’s my brother. He’s 18.”

“Hello,” – Jihyun.

“Chaeyoungie’s also 18 right?” – Joohyuk.

“Right, hi, I’m Chaeyoung Park.” They bowed to each other as they introduce themselves.

“We’ll leave you two right now. Hyunie, please take care of Chaeyoung-ah for me.” –Sungkyung.

“Have fun kids,” – Joohyuk.

“I’m sorry, I’m not really good at talking to girls. I’m awfully an awkward guy…so” Jihyun started. Rose smiled at his aegyo. Back at Australia, guys don’t really find it hard talking to girls. She have a lot of guy friends there than she has here in Korea.

“It’s alright. Let me start by introducing myself again. Hi, I’m Chaeyoung Park. My friends call me Rose. I’m from Australia. I love listening to music and I’m a big fan of cheesy romantic novels. Your turn.” She narrated happily making Jihyun laugh.

“Annyeong, I’m Jihyun Park. Um, my siblings call me Hyunie. I’m from around here. I like sports and photography... and I’m good at fixing things... I like listening to Epik High.”

“Oooh, you’re into hiphop?”

“Hmm, not much but when I’m feeling pissed at my brother I listen to it.” He laughs. “So you’re from Australia?”

The two of them talked until the rehearsal was done. She enjoyed chatting with Jihyun and she’s glad that she can befriend someone like him. He also asked him where in Busan is the best place to cliff dive. Both of them were surprised they both like the activity.

“REALLY? I never met a girl who’s into that. Even my girlfriend doesn’t want me doing those kinds of things.”

He has a girlfriend? Dratt. Too bad then. Rose thought.

“Well, maybe she’s just looking out for you.”

“Hmm, you’re probably right. But you don’t know my girlfriend. She’s too…she’s a bit controlling.”

Rose held her laughter. She was reminded of Jennie. If what that guy said was true that they’re engaged, then that guy might be experiencing the same pain as Jihyun right now. She’s suddenly imagining Jennie pushing the guy Wonwoo off the cliff but the guy was resisting. The images made her laugh.

“I-I’m sorry. It’s just you reminded me of my friend. You know Jennie right?”

“Of course who wouldn’t know that brat~ I’m sorry. I know she’s your friend~”

“You hate her don’t you? I’ll tell her that so she’ll kill you.” She joked.

“Go ahead, I’m not scared of her!”

“Really?”

Jihyun pursed his lips and fumbles his fingers.

“HA, Liar, you are!”

Then suddenly as if on cue, Jennie and Wonwoo came back with Wonwoo holding Jennie by the waist.

“Take your filthy hands off me!”

“Yaa you two better behave. Dinner’s almost ready. Hyunie, isn’t your brother coming?” – Joohyuk.

“I don’t think Jiminnie hyung will make it hyung. But he’ll be here tomorrow for sure.” Jihyun replied to Joohyuk.

All of them had a good time during dinner. The food was great and the people were warm-hearted. Because Rose had an exhausting but satisfying day, she fell completely asleep not bothering to check on Jennie.

The next day was entirely sunny. Rose woke up with Jennie dragging her out of bed. Both of them were tired from last night. She didn’t even know when Jennie came in because she sleeps like the dead. They woke up at 11am and they have to hurry because the wedding will start at 2pm.

After 2 and a half hours of getting ready they headed straight to the venue and met the guests. Jennie and Rose brought their guitars with them and put it on the band area.

“Jennie, come here for a moment.” Rose heard Jen’s dad called her friend. She bowed to Jen’s dad and bid her friend. She saw that Jen’s parents are with Wonwoo. It looks like that they’re really fond of the guy.

Rose looked around for Jihyun and found him at the terrace talking to someone.

“Alright, see you soon hyung.” He said and put his phone inside his coat. “Oh hey Rose. What’s up?”

“I’m bored. Jennie unnie left me I had no other choice but to find you.”

“It’s no big deal. I’m kind of bored too. If only Jiminnie hyung were here, we’ll be entertained.”

“You’re so lucky you have siblings. As for me, I’m an only child. When I was a kid, I used to go to my cousins’ house just to play with them. And sometimes I pretended that I’m asleep just so I wouldn’t be back home alone again and that I can stay longer with my cousins”

“Oh, so that explains why you’re so outgoing.” Jihyun remarked.

“Me, being the youngest it was fun because I get to do things and get away with it. But I’m not feeling the love nowadays. My sister’s getting married, and then my brother’s at Seoul studying in the Uni. Hey, I think we’re meant to meet each other.”

“I wanna say you’d be a great friend but I have a feeling you have an ugly side that I don’t wanna know about.” Rose subtly complimented. Then she saw Jennie inside seemingly looking for her.

“I’ll see you later. You’re sister-in-law’s probably looking for me.”
Rose saw Jihyun cringed when she said the word sister-in-law.

The music of Pachelbel’s Canon started playing as she watched the groomsmen walk to the aisle. Because this couple is a fan of weddings in America, they decided to change the Korean way of getting married but at the same time keeping some traditions.

Rose was watching the men walk down the aisle when some guy busted open the door and came running towards the front with his tie lose on his neck. Rose thought that this must be Jihyun’s brother because he looks like him. It wasn’t long when the blushing bride showed up and walked gracefully towards her groom. The wedding was very heart-warming. She just met Sungkyung yesterday and she felt that she’s so happy for her. Rose never thought of getting married before but seeing this couple recite their vows inspires her to think about it. Well, that is if she falls in love which is completely impossible.

Jimin almost didn’t make it to his sister’s wedding thanks to his friends who made him drink a lot of beer last night. All of them celebrated because the exams were finally over. He’s regretting that because right now he’s suffering from the consequences. It’s embarrassing enough that he had to run towards the aisle because he’s already late. He then fixes his bow tie and faced the guests. His eyes went to Jennie who was shaking her head at him. He wanted to roll his eyes but didn’t. When the ceremony started he couldn’t help but be happy for Sungkyung. He bit his lip to control his emotions. It’s when he looked to his side that he saw a pretty unfamiliar face. Who was that chic? She’s definitely not from the bride’s side…maybe Joohyuk hyung’s?

Jimin could tell that she’s close with Jennie from the way they were whispering to each other.

"Who's the girl that's talking to Jennie?" Jimin whispered to Jihyun.

"She's Rose, the witch's friend. She came all the way here from Australia. And she's a fan of Busan."

"Ah...cool," he said and turned his attention back at the couple.

Jihyun grinned at his brother's interest. It didn't escape him that his brother is admiring Rose...so he decided to .

"She's way out of your league." He whispered.

"Tss. She's not my type. I think she's too tall for my liking. And besides...she's friends with Jennie, her personality's probably the same as her friend. Snobby, high-class, and stubborn...I wouldn't want to be involved with that."

"Alright, alright. She's not your type, so chill," Jihyun said laughing. His brother's clearly interested. He thought.

After the ceremony and the tradition was done, the guests proceed to the seashore for games and activities. There were friends of the couple who performed and there's also Jennie and Rose's song number for the couple.

“This song’s for our newly weds. Congratulations to the both of you. Joohyuk oppa, please be good to my new sister. I will be the one hitting you if you mess up.” Jennie said while Rose was getting her guitar tuned for the song.

“Ready, Rose?” Jennie asked and Rose answered by plucking her guitar.

“I hope you guys enjoy this little song number of ours…”
Rose then started to play her guitar and Jennie started to sing the first verse.

I met you in the dark…
You lit me up…
You made me feel as though
I was enough…

When it was Rose’s turn to sing, she smiled when she saw the newly weds step up the dance floor and danced with each other.

Then you smiled over your shoulder…
For a minute I was stone cold sober...
I pulled you closer to my chest

She and Jennie looked at each other while singing the song. They were happy because Sungkyung and Joohyuk weren’t the only couple who was dancing in front of them. Even Jennie’s parents are dancing to the song and even the brides parents danced along too.

Say you won’t let go…

Just say you won’t let go

And you look as beautiful as ever
And I swear that everyday you’ll get better
You make me feel this way some how

It was Jennie’s turn to sing and Rose was doing the second voice. They were singing the second chorus when Rose saw Wonwoo looking at Jennie like he was watching a shooting star across the night sky. She looked back at Jennie and saw that her friend was also looking at the guy. She wanted to giggle so bad at the sight when she saw that someone’s watching her attentively too. She smiled at Jihyun’s brother and continued to sing her parts.

I’m gonna love you
till my lungs give out
I promise till death we part
Like in our vows
So I wrote this song for you
Now everybody knows…

Just say you won’t let go…
Just say you won’t let go

They wrapped the song flawlessly and then they gave the stage to the hotel’s band who also plays romantic songs for weddings.
The two of them sat in their respective seats and brushed of the nerves of anxiety they had in stage. The couples were still dancing in front when Wonwoo came up and sat beside Jennie.

“That was a great song. I didn’t know you can sing like that.” Wonwoo said to Jennie with a straight face. Rose almost giggled at the awkwardness.

“Thanks. I’m glad you enjoyed it.” Jennie replied with the same expression.

“Um, I’m gonna go get some drinks…um do you want one unnie?” Rose asks Jennie and she shook her head.

Jimin was watching Rose from the moment she went up on stage to the moment where she is right now, getting some drinks. Jihyun was also watching Jimin watching Rose and was having a good time being entertained by his brother’s small crush on his new friend.

“If I were you, I would talk to her.” Jihyun started, driving Jimin’s attention away from Rose.

“Why would I wanna do that?” He said stealing glances at Rose.

“Because hyung, a girl like that don’t come here often. And she’s totally not aware of guys finding her pretty. I mean look at that pal over there…” Jihyun pointed at the guy 3 tables away from them.

“He’s clearly thinking of ways to talk to her right now.”

Jimin was still hesitant. He doesn’t usually suuck at talking to girls, given that he has a rep at school being a playboy. (A fake playboy, that is...) But this girl intimidates him. She makes him feel insecure at a certain level. Maybe because she’s obviously rich…and him…unlike most of his friends, he’s average.

“If you’re so good at getting girls, then you go talk to her.” Jimin snapped at his brother. He knows that Jihyun’s shy when it comes to girls. And he couldn’t believe he was being lectured by someone who’s like Jungkook!

“Fine! Watch me.” Jihyun said rolling his eyes. Jimin’s eyes grew bigger as he watches his brother talking naturally with Rose. They were even laughing and she was hitting his arm! How the fu...

Rose was enjoying her time fooling around with Jihyun at the buffet table. They were talking about Jennie and Wonwoo’s undeniable chemistry that seems unknown to the couple when Jihyun confessed something to her.

“Look, I actually need a favor right now…”

“Huh…why, what happened?”

“My brother…no don’t look…he’s watching me. He thinks that I can’t talk to girls because he knows that I’m an awkward guy…but since we’re friends…”

“Yeah?”

“Can you pretend to laugh at what I’m saying…”
Rose was processing this and realized that Jihyun’s brother was really keeping an eye on him when she burst out laughing...”Oh my gosh, you’re so funny!”

“Ha-ha. I know I am right. My brother’s probably frowning right now.”

Rose glanced back and found that Jihyun was right. She hit his arm and laughed out loud even though it’s not at all funny. When they noticed that they’ve been cracking up for a long time, they decided to stop.

“Thanks so much Rose. You’re a great sport. This’ll show him.”

“Congrats, you’re a man now!”

She was just about to turn back to get her drinks when Jihyun’s brother shows up. Well, this wasn’t planned.

Both her and Jihyun looked at each other.

“Hi…uh…is it okay to…ask you for a dance?” He said looking at her. Rose glanced back at Jihyun who was gesturing her to just go with it. He turned back to Jimin and accepted his hand.

Jimin gulped as he held her towards the band. Then he remembered he didn’t introduce himself. He scrunched his face before turning to her.

The band started to sing a song called Butterfly.

“I’m sorry I forgot to introduce myself. I’m Jimin by the way.” He bowed and she did the same. “That was a beautiful song you guys performed earlier.” He said trying to act confident.

“Hi, I’m Rose…and thanks…you’re the bride’s brother right?”

“Aye, that’s me. You think having a sister as tall as her, you’d expect me to be tall as well right?” He said making her smile.

“Hmm…I think your height suits you. You’re handsome that way.” Rose said not realizing that she’s been staring at him for quite long. She turned her head away and coughed the awkwardness.

“I’m sorry. Was that cringe-worthy?” Rose said being embarrassed at what she said.

At that moment, Jimin realized she’s not like Jenny. She’s not anywhere close to being mean. In fact, he finds her sweet. She’s definitely cute too.

“It was a bit shocking.” Jimin laughs as he takes in the sight of her.

“I heard you came all the way here from Australia…Jihyun said you’re also a fan of this place…”

“Yes…that’s right. Your brother’s good at paying attention.”

“Why do you say that?”

“Well most boys pretend to be listening when they’re not. Like, I could talk for a long time and drive a guy to boredom and still talk about anything. I mean I could be boring you right now and I don’t even know it.” Rose said tilting her head to the side as if examining Jimin if he’s bored.

“I’m not.”

“Tch. We’ll see.” Rose sneered and looked at the sunset.

“Okay, how about this. You can start talking to me about yourself…from the smallest details, and if I can remember it all then you’ll owe me a date.” Jimin said with a smug face.

“Ooooh. So you’re this kind of guy!”

“What? I’m a what kinda guy?”

Rose smiles and giggles showing her teeth. Jimin couldn’t take his eyes off her. Then a little interruption occurred in the form of Jennie Kim.

“Ya…why are you two dancing together?” Jennie said her chin pointing towards Jimin. Thankfully, Wonwoo was just behind her and he took her away from Jimin and Rose.

“I’m sorry. You two can be at peace now.” Wonwoo said taking Jennie’s arms and hugging her from the back so she couldn’t escape.

“Get off!!!” Jennie yelled at Wonwoo who was dragging her far from the two. ”Call me oppa first.”

Rose just watched her friend get dragged away when Jimin spoke to her attention.

“You were saying?”

“I was saying…you know how to make a conversation flow. You’re a smooth talker. I’m betting you know how charming you are and that girls come flocking in your way from where you came from, am I right?” She said challenging him.

For the first time, Jimin looked away. As he was making a face, he was surprised when he heard her laugh.

“Don’t worry. I can handle your kind.”

Jimin grinned and raised an eyebrow at her. “Can you?” Now it’s his turn to challenge her.

Rose smiled and nodded. “It’s a date then.” She answered. Rose doesn’t know if it’s the weather or Jimin’s cheeks are just brighter than usual.

“Oh, you’re good.” Jimin said emphasizing the last word. He smiled wider when she shrugged. They stared at each other’s eyes for awhile like they were memorizing each other’s faces. Then Jimin started humming the song and sang along for a bit.

Will you stop time
If this moment passes
As though it hadn’t happened
I’m scared scared scared I’ll lose you
Butterfly, like a butterfly
Just like a butterfly

“Do you know this song?” – Jimin.

“No…but I like it. It’s beautiful.”

That night the two of them stayed together until the fireworks display. They both stopped walking by the shore and stared at the night sky being light up by pyrotechnics.

"That's so cool!" Rose said in admiration. Jimin then turned to her and smiled at the view. He haven't experience this before. Everything's just magical around her. When they were walking and talking earlier, he wanted so bad to hold her hand but he's afraid she'll think he's rushing...well not that he is, but he doesn't mind taking it slow. He just wanted to feel that this is real. That he's finally connecting with a girl who probably doesn't know how beautiful she is right now.

When he realized he couldn't resist it, he grabbed her hand and held it in the air.

Then he screamed.

"Whoooooooo!"

Jimin was taken aback when she screamed with him.

At the end of the night, they laughed with each other without any clue at all that it was love at first sight.
