“You really make me wonder who I should be on my guard,” Youjung comments once they were in the comfort of Donghyuk’s office after sending Yunhyeong off. “You’ve been with so many girls. Will I be randomly attacked on the streets if I just walked?”

“Very funny, Youjung,” Donghyuk says, sitting next to her on the couch. “I can arrange bodyguards for you if you like it.”

“Even worse,” she retorts with an eye roll and he laughs. “I don’t want to attract attention. If you haven’t realized, I hate being in the center of attention unlike your previous dates.”

“Flings,” he corrects her and she shrugs. “But why don’t you like the attention?”

“Because there is an attention hogger next to me,” she replies with a sweet smile, leaning slightly towards him. “There isn’t a need for me to fight for the attention.”

“That’s true,” he replies cockily and she laughs before hitting him lightly. “But… knowing you. That shouldn’t be the only reason. That is the reason that you will tell people when they ask, the veil to cover the real reason.”

“You’re learning quick,” she comments and he grins.

“Of course! I’m Kim Donghyuk! Your fiancé and future husband! I got to know what my wifey is like,” he says leaning towards her and wrapping his arms around her waist.

Youjung rolls her eyes without a hint of annoyance before pushing his arms away. “We’re not real, Donghyuk,” she reminds, returning his arms. “We’re doing this to show me your world.”

He kept silent and doesn’t move, unlike her. “Tell me why you don’t want the attention,” he changes the topic to avoid the atmosphere.

“I naturally shy away from spotlights. I hate it when everyone is staring at me. My face would heat up and my speech will quicken due to nervousness,” she replies with a small sigh. “And since now, I’m your fiancé and known for helping you with your business once I graduate… It makes sense.”

He tilts his head with a confused look. “Please enlighten me, princess,” he says and she sighs once again, wishing that sometimes he knew how to read her mind.

“Ever heard the saying that behind every successful man, there is a woman?” she asks and he nods slowly, not getting it. “You’re successful, Donghyuk because you turned the tables for this company and rose quickly. If I were to become your wife, even if it was temporarily, there is an image I have to hold. If I were to take all the credit and spotlight, the media would comment me as a woman who married you just to be famous. When you’re standing under the unstopping flashes, I’ll be at home watching you with a proud smile because you’re my husband.”

His tongue darts out to his dry lips. “We’re constantly being watched by the media and the competitors, that is why most of the time I act passive,” she says and he nodded his head in understanding. “If I were to say what was on my mind to whoever I want, your associates would talk behind your back about getting a woman who has a loose mouth and doesn’t know how to act appropriately in a professional environment. It decreases your creditability and value.”

He muses over it a while as Youjung stood up to get a drink for the both of them. “You think too much,” he says softly while she was pouring water. “If the previous girls thought about half of what you think about, I wouldn’t have gotten into so much trouble.”

“But if they did, you wouldn’t have met me,” she replies teasingly and he smiles, looking at her back figure and realizing that she was still very pretty and it confused him.

He had seen prettier girls; way prettier but they never had such a beautiful back view or even front view. But Youjung’s looks were average, not exceptional. “Donghyuk!” she calls him and he looks over to her. “Here’s your drink. I was thinking we could look through the proposals from other companies.”

She walked to the glass table and grabbed the huge pile of proposals. “Wouldn’t companies usually have a meeting to discuss about these proposals?” she asks, setting the papers on the coffee table lightly.

“I’m special,” he replies with a sweet smile as she sits down with the first proposal in her hand, already on the third page. “That’s a small company. We don’t bother with them.”

He takes the proposal out of her hands and sets it to the side before starting to sort out by how big the companies was, leaving three proposals. “Read these,” he said, gesturing to the three proposals while she raised an eyebrow at him.

She reaches over and opens the first page. She immediately lets a sound of annoyance. “Donghyuk, this company doesn’t even know what they are doing,” she says before pointing at the paragraphs written. “They are trying to put you off with the large paragraphs. I’m pretty sure they have some hidden terms and condition buried in this text, in hopes that you would sign on without even reading through which would obviously happen since you’re too lazy.”

“No! I would have definitely read it!” he exclaims with an innocent look.

“Don’t give me that. I know you wouldn’t have,” she retorts with a look to shut him up. “I’m going to take this proposal with me to read through it as future worker of the company.”

“Knock yourself out,” he mutters before standing up. “I’ve got some things to settle, I’ll be back in a few hours. I should be going now.”

“Bye, Donghyuk!” she exclaims, nose already buried in the thick stack of papers. “Don’t you dare flirt with any girl or cheat on me!”

He chuckles but doesn’t reply before leaving the office.

Donghyuk returns after five hours due to him visiting the site of the new manufacturing factory outside of Seoul. Youjung was still on the couch. Her shoes were abandoned and her hair was tied up in a bun. He walks over and hovered over her to see that the last proposal was in her hands. “It took you five hours to read three proposals? You’re a slow reader?” he asks and she doesn’t reply, flipping the page.

He gave an amused smirk before going to grab himself a drink. “Excuse you,” she mutters, appearing next to him, the proposal still in her hand.

Handing her the glass of water he had in his hand, she looks up to him to make eye contact and he smiles. “What are you doing?” she asks, breaking eye contact and walks away, eyes glued to the papers in her hand.

“Tch. She’s no fun,” he mutters to himself, pouting slightly before pouring himself another glass of water.

“I am plenty of fun,” she deadpans from the couch as she sets down the proposal in her hands and closes it properly. “Also, I read all the proposal in five hours. Not just three.”

He almost spit out the water in his mouth. “There was at least thirty proposals,” he responds with a shocked look.

“Twenty-two to be exact,” she responds as she rubs her closed eyes. “Out of the three proposals you chose, all their terms and conditions have loopholes and if anything were to happen and it is taken to court, your company will never win. First statement on page fifty-five, ‘If any damage were to happen. Kim Industries will silently accept the responsibilities and are unable to sue or hold K Distributor any liabilities.’ These people are your competitors, Kim Donghyuk! And you still don’t want to read these proposals?!”

“How would I know that they are my competitors or not?” he asks in an annoyed tone. “Plus, I’m extremely busy. I don’t have the time to read these proposals. That’s what the company’s employers are for.”

“Busy?” she scoffs, putting down the contract. “More like too busy flirting. In the past five hours, at least ten different ladies with tight-fitting clothes have entered this office and were disappointed to see that the rumors were true. Seriously, stop flirting. You have a fiancé now and that’s me. If I’m working hard to understand, to be in your world and make sure that unnecessary attention isn’t drawn to either of us. You better buck up because this relationship goes two ways. Just like every other kind of relationship. This isn’t one of your flings that you can play around with. You brought me into this so you better play your part in this. I will not hesitate to expose you if you cheat on me.”

“But our marriage is a lie,” he responds with a smirk.

“To the both of us it is,” she retorts before folding her arms. “But to your parents and the rest of Korea, we’re engaged. So stop your around before I chop off your gentiles and you can tell your mother that she wouldn’t have any grandchildren to hold for the rest of her life.”

“Why are you so uptight about this?” he asks, stepping closer to her. “Usually when the marriage is a lie, the two parties would agree that it is okay to cheat, as long as no one catches them.”

“But you see, Donghyuk, we are constantly under the media’s eyes. Something tiny, like skin ship, can be made into huge news about dating rumors. Do you want someone to see that you’re cheating on your supposed fiancé that happens to be me? And let it leak out to the media, causing rumors that leads to spread and your company stock values drops,” she says with a knowing smile. “You should know which action to take, hubby.”

“Also, stop relying on your workers,” she responds before looking away from him, knowing that it wasn’t her position to meddle but she needed to tell him so. “When they’re gone, you are the one that has to do all this. So better start getting used to read these proposals. No matter how long they are.”

He sits on the couch and sighs out in defeat. “Why can’t I just at least beat you bloody once,” he mutters in annoyance.

“When a girl plans her battles against you, you have no chance of winning. All the others girls who gave in to you, purposely lost to make sure that you would stay with them and it would show that they are submissive, something you love since you’re such a dominant,” she responses, ending it with a soft scoff. “But I’m not like that. I’m not a submissive and I refuse to act like I am.”

He sighs once again, leaning back against the couch, wondering why he had chose her in the first place. “Anyways, there are many benefits in the proposals that you deliberately set aside. Consider them,” she says, handing him a stack of paper.

“Why should I?” he asks with a raised eyebrow.

“Kim Donghyuk,” she states, giving a disapproving look and he looks away so that he doesn’t feel the guilt bubbling in him. “Look at me. Stop being stubborn.”

He lets out a sigh in annoyance. “Don’t sigh in annoyance at me,” she states with a grim look. “While you were gone and in between reading these proposals, I opened this book to see how it went and coincidentally, it showed how a Jewish immigrant, Joe Folm made it big as an associate with the company he was working in. Why? Because they took every job that rocked up at their firm.”

“That happened back when the Wall Street just started, princess,” he replies, scoffing at the end. “Please read it properly. Also, the firm had just started. I don’t see any similarities between the both of us.”

“Well you have to adapt to their thinking,” she replies, whacking him lightly, earning a glare that held no menace.

“Ow!” he yelps out in pain, earning a ‘seriously’ look from her. “Why should I? I don’t need that.”

“Stop being a stubborn and starting listening than hearing,” she says in a stern tone.

“Listening and hearing are the same though,” he whines cutely and Youjung rolls her eyes.

“Don’t whine at me. You’re a grown man. How did you bring your company to this status shocks me, seeing how slack you are,” she says and he frowns. “Listening and hearing are very different things, excuse me.”

“I’m not slack, excuse me. I worked hard and slogged my guts out to get the company to this position. I’m slacking now because I just want a little rest from the intense work hours from the past year or so,” he says before sighing.

“Once you slack, the company will fall,” she replies simply. “A typical case for those who are already the best in the industry. They slack off on their operations and then fall right down in a matter of months. Why do you guys think it is okay to slack off once you get to the top? You let your guard down and someone will crawl behind you to stab you in the back, resulting your downfall. No one understands that they got to keep working in order to stay top. A never-ending cycle due to idiots who think that their places are secured.”

“Why are you always nagging?” he says in an annoyed tone.

“I don’t nag,” she says. “I state facts.”

“In long paragraphs which is equivalent to you nagging,” he mutters and gave an innocent look when she glares at him.

A silence fell over them as Youjung sipped on the glass of water in her hand. “Look. I am in no position to say too much about the company but I really think that the way you are dealing with these important proposals is wrong…” she says, putting down the glass and he looks at her with a harsh glare, making her raise her hands slightly in surrender. “Listen to me alright?”

His glare softens and she smiles slightly that she was able to keep him somewhat calm. “When you’re throwing out these small business deals,” she said, pointing to the stack of proposals Donghyuk had set aside, “other small companies are picking them your scraps.”

“You’re giving them a chance to improve on their work and soon or later, they will climb up the ladder and get on the same level as this company or even bigger because their work will be on the same level as us or even better. This creates more competition. It is very unfavourable towards us,” she says. “This is why you can’t just throw away projects like normal.”

He stayed silent, letting the words sink in. “I’ve researched a bit, Donghyuk,” she says, gaining his attention. “Min Technologies are rising rapidly and it is because of the projects you have said that it doesn’t matter. Seeing their state, in two weeks, this position we have will be overtaken by them and we will be getting other people scrap and that isn’t the worst thing that could happen.”

He takes in a deep breath before saying, “Aren’t you suppose to learn from me? Not tell me what to do?”

“I’m suggesting, hubby,” she states before huffing in annoyance. “You’re a such a stubborn and prideful man.”

“Excuse me?” he says, mouth gaped.

“You’re excused,” she replies with a sweet smile.

He gives her an exasperated look. “Why do I need to do this?” he asks. “The company that I’m handling is at the top. Does it look like I need to take on small projects?”

“Why?” she repeats, tired of his stubbornness. “Well for starters, there are at least ten other ‘small’ companies that will rise to your level in a matter of weeks. Second of all, after that happens, I don’t think you’ll be only bankrupt. You know ruthless these people can be. This company would be their biggest competitor. They would do anything to bring this company down.”

When he doesn’t say anything, she sighs softly. “You’re smart, hubby,” she says, knowing that the nickname has some sort of effect on him. “You know what I’m saying is true, whether you like it or not because like I said before, I state facts.”

She waves toward the stack of papers. “Only you can make the decision,” Youjung says, making eye contact. “It is up to you if you want to listen to me.”
