Episode Three
SuperStar BootCamp ☆ Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Star?Stage Presence
"Hello, hello and welcome back to Boot Camp!" As always, Jongwoon is bright and enthusiastic as he opens the show. "Last week our trainees here started learning the basics of trainee life, getting beauty tips and workout routines from their mentors! Hopefully they feel comfortable with those because it's time to kick it up a notch!"
He spins excitedly, and the camera zooms out to show that he's standing in a large dance studio, different from the one the girls took their ballroom classes in.
"Welcome to the JTBC rehearsal room! Starting this week, our participants get into the nitty gritty of idol life. And by that I of course mean that this week." He pauses for effect, grinning all too sweetly, "We start dance lessons."
The camera then does a dramatic zoom out of the building, panning around the city, and then zooming back in to what proves to be the participants' dorm.
A time stamp shows it's seven fourty five in the morning and the dorm is dead silent.
However, moments after the camera zoom stops, a loud alarm begins blaring through the house, and abruptly the small space is overflowing with noise.
"Who the heck set that?"
"I thought we got a sleep in today!"
"Someone please turn it off!"
The camera spins to show a highly amused looking Gikwang holding up his phone and projecting the alarm through a small megaphone.
A bleary Jinyi is the first one to appear in the hallway, stumbling straight past Gikwang in a bid for the kitchen, mumbling "coffee" over and over as she passes the camera.
Woojin appears next, ruffled but a bit more aware than Jinyi. He looks over at Gikwang, frowning sleepily.
"Why?"
"You've got workout in fifteen minutes." The interviewer reminds him, and he blinks once before shuffling back into the mens' room.
A moment later there's a thudding sound and Eunchan's yelp can be heard clearly through the wall, as well as Hanhae laughing loudly.
As the scrambling continues on the men's side of the apartment, Myunghwa, fully dressed in her workout clothes, emerges from the women's side of the hallway and walks into the living room. She momentarily looks starteld by the cameras before smiling awkwardly to them and hurrying past, following Jinyi to the kitchenette.
The following fifteen minutes are sped up as the rest of the contestants emerge one by one from their rooms and attempt to grab something to eat before they have to leave.
"I'm not super thrilled about the continued morning workouts, but I am kind of getting used to them." Jinyi laughs in her interview. "Still ajusting to getting out of bed without kicking Giri in the face though." She adds jokingly.
"The rooming situation is pretty tight, but I assume we'll all get used to it." Giri sounds hopeful in her interview, if a bit strained. "Though I'm wondering if maybe I should switch to the top bunk..."
The scene returns to the contestants as they make the short trek to the gym. All ten are consulting schedules as they walk.
"Seriously? We have thirty minutes dedicated to just putting on makeup?" Hadon sounds incredibly put out by the revelation.
Jinyoo's hands flutter and she looks like she wants to say something, but Jisoo beats her to it.
"When is it?" She tugs the schedule so she can look at it over his shoulder, and then glances at her own. "I can help you on Wednesday and Thursday if you want, I have that time free."
Hadon agrees to the proposal and the two continue talking as they walk.
Jinyi is looking curiously over her own schedule when Hanhae sidles over to her.
"No chance you'd be free to help me out?" He grins innocently and she smirks back.
"Afraid not. We'll have to make our own time."
"Could you two not?" Akihiro grumbles.
"They've been flirting all week." He sighs in his interview. "I'm pretty sure we're supposed to be here to train as idols, not pick up new relationships."
Hanhae gives an eyeroll in his own chat with Gikwang. "It's just harmless flirting. I think Hiro is just petty because his wife didn't get in."
"He does have a point though. You are supposed to be focused on the weekly goals." Gikwang notes.
Hanhae shrugs. "I am focusing on them. What's so wrong with having some fun on the side?"
The scene returns to show the women leaving the gymnasium, exhausted and sweaty but slightly less out of breath than in the previous week's episode.
"I almost think I'm getting used to this!" Of the five, Jisoo is easily the least winded, though she's still tired from the workout.
Giri smiles, clearly the most wiped of the group. "I hope I will soon. We have to keep doing these for the rest of the show, right?"
"That's what they say." Myunghwa nods confirmation. "Gikwang did say that the trainers would be dropped after our first performance though."
The other four look over at her in surprise.
"Performance?" Jisoo inquires, a spark in her eyes.
"First performance? There will be more than one?" Giri on the other hand seems a bit less excited by the prospect of multiple stages.
"The show is only two months long!" She explains in the interview. "I mean, I knew we'd be doing something, but more than one performance? We're all just starting and it seems like a lot." She worriedly glances away from the camera, biting her lip.
The boys leave the gym about twenty minutes after the girls do, as seen by the time stamp in the corner of the screen. They, unlike the girls, are already showered and dressed in regular clothes.
Of this group, Woojin is easily the least exhausted while Eunchan's cheer seems to have drained straight from his soul as he lags behind the group by a few paces.
"Get anywhere with that trainer of yours?" Hadon sounds distinctly teasing as he chats with Hanhae.
Hanhae shrugs goodnaturedly. "Nah. Not really my type. She's fun though!"
Akihiro, who's a few steps ahead of the rest, rolls his eyes but makes no comment on the exchange, instead opting to shift the conversation.
"So we've got dancing in thirty minutes. I wonder how this will work since we don't have a song or anything to practice with." He muses, loud enough that even Eunchan glances up at the back.
Hadon shrugs disinterestedly. "Obviously trainees do that plenty so there must be something. You know what I find weird though? We haven't seen this week's mentors yet and it's almost noon."
That sparks more of a conversation.
"Hey yeah! I guess maybe they're busier than our last ones?" Eunchan seems to have recovered most of his energy as he perks back up and jumps into the conversation.
"Considering one of our last mentors was Bae Suji I kind of doubt that." Woojin points out quietly. "I think we probably will meet them wherever the dance studio is."
Akihiro blinks, and then frowns. "Wait... does anyone actually know where the dance studio is? Because we have to be there pretty soon and I don't actually know the location."
The boys share a glance of realization before they pick up their pace, Hanhae pulling out his phone as he does.
"Asking Jinyi if she knows?" Hadon guesses with a small grin.
Hanhae grins back. "I have the number, may as well use it."
The scene shifts to show the women sitting in a van. Jinyoo is sitting in the front next to Jongwoon, who's driving, while the other four are in the back chatting. The sound of a phone beeping fills the car shortly after it comes into focus.
"Sorry, that's me." Jinyi pulls out her phone, and the others all glance at her curiously.
She laughs a moment later. "The boys want to know where the dance studio is. Should I tell them, or shall we let them worry?"
"Just tell them, they'll find out soon enough anyway." Myunghwa points out.
Jinyi shrugs. "You're no fun. Alright, I'll tell them." She fires off a text, and then leans over the back of Jinyoo's seat to address Jongwoon. "So where is the dance studio actually? We've been driving for almost fifteen minutes now."
Jongwoon just grins. "Not much further. Give me two minutes."
The girls opt to trust him and go back to chatting.
"So if we're dancing this week who do you think our mentor wil be? Probably one of the top idol dancers right?" Giri glances around at the others as she speaks.
Jisoo perks up immediately. "Hey yeah, you're probably right! Oh gosh I hope it's Hyoyeon. Or BoA! Even Momo would be awesome, she's the hot new dancer of this generation." She enthuses happily.
Jinyi laughs. "Wow. I don't know any of those people."
Jisoo looks like she's about to be insulted, but just then Jongwoon loudly announces their arrival.
"Welcome to your home away from home girls!" He annouces proudly as the van pulls to a stop.
A wide shot shows that they've pulled into the parking lot of a stout building that boasts a gaudy sign advertising spaces for rent.
The five girls stare up at their new accomodations, before turning to look increduously at the host, who gives an unabashed grin.
"Hey, we're on a budget, and you haven't even been inside yet! Give it a chance girls." Jongwoon encourages. "And on that note, I need to go pick up the boys. You five just head on up to the second floor and your mentor for the week will meet you there! Have fun!" And with that he retreats back into the van and drives off.
Giri ends up being the first one to enter the building, and the others follow close behind her.
The inside is much nicer than the exterior had led the group to believe. It's simple, but quite clean. Even the walls look like they've been scrubbed.
There's an elevator not far from the front doors, and the five take it to the second floor, standing in awkward silence during the short wait.
Once they exit the elevator, they stop, clear confusion on all their faces.
There's a short hallway in front of them, and two doors stand on opposite sides of the hall.
"...Which one is ours?" Myunghwa sounds distinctly upset by the realization that Jongwoon hadn't given them all the needed information before he'd run off.
Jisoo is the first to reply, though Giri looks like she was about to as well. "Maybe we just pick one? There are two mentors - maybe we get to randomly chose ours and the boys get the other?" She suggests.
As they debate what to do, Jinyi rolls her eyes and strides over to one of the doors, tosses it open, and then laughs loudly, causing the other four to look to her, startled.
"Or maybe one of the rooms is empty. Come out guys, let's meet our mentor." She closes the door and then spins to open the other.
Jisoo peers over her shoulder excitedly, and then squeals and bounds into the room.
The camera switches to an internal view of the dance room Jongwoon had stood in at the start of the episode as the girls file in.
Jisoo is practically vibrating in her shoes as their mentor walks over to them, her back to the camera. Giri looks equally impressed, while the other three don't quite share the same enthusiasm, varying from curiosity to amused confusion.
Finally their mentor speaks, and it's immediately clear who it is.
"Good morning girls. I hope your workout gave you a good warmup, because we have a long day ahead of us."
And finally, Gong Minji turns so the camera can see her.
The show returns to the exact moment that it left off. Minzy smiles at the girls, and then immediately waves them into a circle.
"Alright, some of your clothing choices aren't great for dancing, but we'll talk about that more at the end of today. For now we're going to start with some basic warmups, and then we'll test to see how much to you know about dancing already."
Jinyi rolls her shoulders back. "I can already tell you I know nothing, but alright, let's do this."
Minzy leads the girls through several, slightly sped up, stretches. Jisoo follows along easily, but the other four struggle quite a bit, revealing that none of them are particularly flexible.
"I didn't think the warm ups would be tiring." Giri sighs in her interview. "I really have a long way to go if I'm worn out before we even start actually dancing."
Gikwang tilts his head. "So how did the actual dancing go then?"
The next shot shows a slightly disappointed Minzy.
"Okay then. Clearly most of you have a ways to go, but we have a week to get you up to speed on the basics, and of course your dance practices will continue with the remainder of your time on the show so you'll get there." The idol is straight to business. In front of her, all the girls except Jisoo look either embarrassed or exhausted.
Minzy eyes them for a moment before sighing. "Okay, don't worry about it. A lot of idols start out not really knowing how to dance. Some aren't particularly coordinated either. You can learn." She sighs again. "But this week is going to be a lot more intense that I had initial thought."
An interview with the girls' mentor reveals why.
"I only watched the first episode and noticed there were a lot of great female dancers auditioning. I had thought more than one of them would end up among the participants." She admits.
Back in the dance studio Minzy has divided Jisoo out from the group, and the young dancer is practicing by herself on one side of the room, cheerfully flying through several complex looking routines with ease, while the other four work on something much easier.
Jisoo is still ecstatic in her interview. "Dancing is my forte! I've always loved it and been told I'm good, but hearing that from a pro dancer is really another level." She's beaming happily as she speaks, practically floating in her excitement.
Jinyi is far less impressed. "I'm the last person to say I'm any good as a dancer, but if I hear Jisoo brag about her dancing one more time I'm going to slap the kid. Seriously, there is such a thing as too much." She grins, but it seems a bit more strained than her usually carefree ones.
The scene returns to the men as they pile out of a van in front of the dance building.
The five look about as impressed by the space as the women had been, but once again Jongwoon encourages them to give it a chance and then directs them to the second floor before racing off, leaving them stranded in the parking lot with nothing else to do but head up.
They're greeted by the sound of music blaring from the right side of the hallway.
Akihiro shrugs and glances at the others. "I suppose we go left then, since it sounds like the girls have already started."
The boys file into their room, only to find that it's empty.
Akihiro frowns heavily. "Our mentor isn't here yet? What's with that?"
Eunchan, who seems to have fully recovered from the morning's workout, promptly begins exploring the space.
"There's an iPod already hooked into the sound system." He announces after a moment. "We could just dance by ourselves until he gets here!"
No one looks particularly enthralled with this suggestion, but before anything more can be said the door opens once again.
Akihiro turns to face their newly arrived mentor, looking annoyed, but he freezes when he sees the man standing in the doorway.
"Sorry I'm late guys, traffic was worse than anticipated!" Jung Jihoon grins with some embarrassment as he closes the door behind himself. "Anyway, hello, I'll be your mentor this week!"
Woojin still looks surprised in his interview. "I can't believe you guys got Rain to mentor us for the week. Wouldn't that cost a lot?"
"This. Is. So. Cool." Eunchan enthuses in his own interview. "I mean L is a big name and all, but Rain is a legend! And we get to work with him! Man, everyone at home is going to be so jealous when they see this!" He's practically vibrating in his seat as he speaks.
However all his energy is seemingly gone in the next shot of the boys, revealed to be day two of the week. All five are nearly drenched in sweat, save Woojin who's a bit less worn than the others.
Rain stops the music and turns to them. "Alright that was better. Eunchan, you still have a habit of losing the beat around the third measure though, stay cognizant of that. You auditioned as a dancer, so you really need to be on top of the beat."
Eunchan nods cheerfully. "Sir yes sir!"
Nodding, Rain turns to the other four. "You're keeping up well, but Hanhae and Hadon you're both not putting in your full effort. This is a group, which means it's only as good as it's weakest link." His words are gentle, and neither of the men addressed seems to really take them to heart despite the nods they both give.
Rain doesn't seem bothered by their lacking attention and looks to the final two members.
"Woojin and Akihiro. You two are actually keeping up quite well. I may recommend one of you for the lead dance position at the end of the week. Of course, there's still plenty to improve on, but continue as you have been and you'll be fine."
Akihiro beams while Woojin simply shrugs in acceptance of the praise.
Rain turns to start the music again, but he's interrupted by a loud, insistent knocking at the door.
He blinks, and then pulls out his phone before laughing and opening the door.
Minzy stands on the other side, eyebrow raised and looking equally amused. "You forgot."
He shrugs. "I forgot." He turns to the clearly confused group with an abashed grin. "Alright, Akihiro, Woojin, and Hadon. You're released for the day. Hanhae, Eunchan, congratulations. You get some one-on-one dance training!"
Hanhae grins and nudges Hadon. "Take me with you."
Hadon smirks back. "Why, is Rain not your type either? You sure are picky."
Hanhae bursts into laughter as the three boys leave with Minzy.
In the hallways, all five of the women participants are waiting, down bottles of water as they do.
Jisoo gravitates straight to Hadon, smiling sweetly.
"How's dancing going for you guys? Like it yet?" She asks him eagerly.
He laughs and shrugs. "Keep trying kid."
Jisoo pouts at him while Minzy waves to get everyone's attention back onto herself.
"Alright, you all probably know that groups are divided into lead and main dancers, vocals, and rappers." She waits for some acknowledgement before she continues, and Myunghwa gives it to her in the form of a serious nod.
"Excluding Jisoo, each of you is under consideration for either vocal or rap positions. So every other afternoon you'll have off from dance training to hone these skills on your own until next week."
Akihiro perks up. "Is that what Rain meant when he mentioned lead dancer earlier?"
Minzy tosses a glance to the closed door to the mens' dance room, where music has once again started up and is filtering into the hallway from under the door. "It is, though he wasn't supposed to say anything. The main and lead dancers in each team will be decided on by the end of the week based on my and Rain's observations of your talent and improvement."
Jisoo gives a small smirk, clearly already anticipating her main dance position.
Myunghwa tilts her head, frowning slightly. "Will we have to go elsewhere to practice? And how can we practice without proper teachers?" She points out, clearly concerned.
Minzy shrugs. "You have phones, right? Youtube."
Myunghwa clearly isn't very happy with that answer, but she backs down.
Minzy either doesn't notice her dissatisfaction or ignores as as she addresses the first part of Myunghwa's concerns. "As for where you need to go, just head downstairs! We've rented the entire building, and the first floor is composed of several smaller rooms. They aren't designated one way or another just yet so just head into one and practice." With that she takes Jisoo back into the womens' dance room, leaving the group to head to the first floor.
"I've had lessons in the past, so I knew how to warm up properly, but I'm worried about the others. There's been some car singing and I know not everyone has good technique." Myunghwa frets slightly in her interview. "I just don't want anyone tearing their vocal chords over this show!"
Gikwang regards her for a long moment before he replies. "Did you ever consider that this happens with actual trainees?"
Myunghwa gazes at him with wide eyes, clearly upset by the notion. "But they'll give themselves nodes! Singing deals with a very delicate instrument, and you can't just buy new vocal chords! They really make kids sings without teaching them proper technique?"
Gikwang blinks. "Um, Myunghwa... have you ever actually listened to KPop?"
She wipes at her eyes, which had become a bit damp during her fretting, and shakes her head awkwardly. "I did more as a kid. I prefer indie music these days actually." She blushes at the admission, and the scene finally shifts away to show the chosen contestants practicing.
Myunghwa is sitting in a relatively small room, strumming on a guitar to help her find her notes to warm up with. Jinyoo is with her, trying to mimic her tone nervously.
"Myunghwa offered to show me some warmup techniques to use since I haven't had lessons in quite a while." Jinyoo says in her interview, staring at her lap. "It was very nice of her."
Hadon is freestyle beatboxing in another room, making no attempt to even pretend he's practicing rap likes he's supposed to be.
"I don't know the first thing about rapping, and honestly as the only male rapper on the team I'm guaranteed the main rap position. So why not take the free time when it's presented?" He grins easily in his interview.
Akihiro on the other hand is the picture of focus. As Minzy had recommended, he has his phone out and is attempting to follow several warm ups on Youtube.
He's still quite serious in his interview. "When Sarang wasn't chosen for the show, I initially was going to reject my own spot here. But she asked me to try, for her. And so I need to get that role, to fulfill her dream to be on a stage, and I'm going to do everything I can to accomplish that."
Gikwang nods. "You two are quite close. I admit I had wondered why you would come without her, when it was her dream."
Akihiro remains serious. "I came because it's her dream."
In yet another individual room, Jinyi is actually practicing her rap, though she's also texting as she does.
She shrugs in her interview. "I mean, I usually rap while doing something else so I figured I'd check and see how things are going at the bakery so far. Apparently the kid hasn't burned anything down yet, which I admit is impressive." She laughs lightly as the scene switches yet again.
Giri is much less relaxed in her practice, nervously flicking through her phone and stumbling through a few attempted raps.
"I don't really know how to rap! I'm just worse at singing!" She admits in her interview, slumping into her chair. "There isn't really much online in terms of help either! Lots of singing advice, but nothing for rap! I'm starting to think..." She shakes her head, sitting back up. "No, no I'll be fine. Sorry, just tired."
Woojin is the last of the group to be shown. He's singing softly in his own room, his voice barely picked up by the camera microphones.
"I know some basic warmups from hearing the musical actors' rehearsals so I'm mostly winging it." He explains to Gikwang.
"Do you think it will be enough to get the main vocal position?"
Woojin just shrugs. "Honestly? I don't really care that much. It's just a position after all."
The show picks up on day three around noon on the womens' side of the hallway.
Jisoo is once again practicing without the other four girls, but this time with some guidance from Minzy.
The rest of the team is sitting against the wall, draining water bottles and watching Jisoo's progress.
"Does that girl ever get tired?" Jinyi shakes her head in awe. "Three hours of workout this morning and then pretty much straight here and she's been non stop the entire time."
"Except when she helped Hadon with his makeup." Giri pipes up helpfully and Jinyi laughs.
"I don't think that was a break for any of the parties involved." She jokes cheerfully, finishing one bottle and grabbing for another. "I on the other hand feel like I've just found an oasis in the desert."
Myunghwa and Jinyoo both nod, too busy drinking to speak. Jinyi doesn't seem to mind maintaining conversation on her own though.
"I can't wait for tomorrow when we get another hour free to work on our personal talents. Speak of, are you two going to team up again?" The question is directed towards Myunghwa and Jinyoo.
Jinyoo glances uncertainly over at the younger contestant, but Myunghwa doesn't hesitate to nod confidently, which gets the oldest one smiling.
Jinyi nods as well. "Right then. Giri, you should join me then! And maybe we should grab Hadon too, make sure he actually does something this time." She grins slightly.
Giri looks awkward but she smiles. "Sure, that would be nice."
"Alright girls, break time is over, on your feet." Minzy interrupts any further chatter as she and Jisoo rejoin the group. "We're moving on from the basics today, so I hope you're recovered."
"I was not recovered." Giri announces in her interview.
Gikwang almost smiles as he responds. "I thought you were feeling better about dancing yesterday?"
"That was yesterday. Yesterday we were still learning basic moves. Today we actually put some of them together and it got really hard again." She slumps a bit in her chair.
Gikwang nods. "There's still time left in the week. I'm sure you'll get the hang of it soon."
The next several shots show all the girls getting the hang of things as each run through improves.
"Myunghwa don't worry so much about getting the spin exactly perfect, it's causing you to fall a quarter beat behind everyone else. And Jinyi, I know you're miserable but you need to smile." Minzy instructs.
"Smile, look y, exude charisma, I swear dancing is less about the actual dance and more about how you stare at the camera the way Minzy talks." Jinyi announces in her interview.
"Did you think that for idols that may actually be the case?" Gikwang points out.
Jinyi tilts her head in consideration. "I guess that does make sense. Well that's a relief then, I at dancing!"
The men are getting a similar lesson, though Rain has opted for a lecture format to explain it.
"Being a performer doesn't mean being the most talented singer or rapper or dancer. It's about how you present yourself onstage." He pauses to be sure they're all listening sparing a pointed glace to Hadon and Hanhae.
"Charisma is what you want to focus on. Being one with the song, showing the audience what they should be feeling and how they should be reacting. That's the difference between a backup dancer and an idol. Charisma."
"Charisma has lost all meaning now." Hanhae announces in his interview. "I get what he means though. He showed us a demonstration of a performance with and without it, and the without was really boring to watch." He grins. "Luckily I have plenty of charisma to spare."
"Among the boys Hanhae and Woojin are easily the best with stage presence." Rain states in his own sit down with Gikwang. "Woojin makes sense of course since he's an actor, but I admit Hanhae surprised me. He's mostly goofed off this week but when he focuses there's a lot of idol potential there." He pauses a moment to think before analyzing the other three.
"Eunchan does have the best dance technique, but he struggles with songs that aren't on the cheerful end of the spectrum. Hadon... I don't think he's really trying but I've seen him beatbox. I think he's capable of doing well if he applies himself. As for Akihiro..." He sighs. "He tries. I'll give him that. But it doesn't really come to him as easily as it does for the others."
Minzy's thoughts on the womens' progress isn't nearly as positive. "I'd say that Jisoo looks the best at the moment, but only because she's trained. She could definitely work as a backup dancer but her stage presence is heavily lacking. She leans too much on her skills." She sighs. "But like I said, she's still the best one. Myunghwa is so worried about the dancing she forgets to have any expression at all, Giri and Jinyoo both look like they're either terrified or confused, and Jinyi," She pauses, and then sighs heavily. "Jinyi actually isn't doing too badly."
Gikwang frowns. "I thought you said that Jisoo was the best in the group?"
Minzy gives a single-shoulder shrug. "She is. Jinyi is alright but what she has in confidence she lacks in everything else needed to be successful onstage. I think she's trying with her dancing, but she's not the most coordinated person I've met."
Her observation is backed up when the next clip shows Jinyi spinning into a wall.
She laughs as she rubs at her shoulder. "You'd think five times later I'd learn that was there." She jokes. It's noted in the corner than it's five in the afternoon on day five of the week, and the girls surprisingly look a bit less worn down than they had earlier in the episode.
Minzy sighs and pauses the music. "Alright that's all we have time for. Individual hour starts now so you girls can head out. Jisoo let's see if you can still land a triple pirouette today."
Jinyi leads the other four out of the room, still rotating her shoulder. "Why don't we wait for the guys? There's only one elevator so it makes more sense to share it." She suggests.
No one counters her proposal, and so she knocks on the door across the hall.
A moment later, it swings open to show a slightly abashed Rain. "I forgot again."
Jinyi laughs. "Maybe. We're here to steal half you men."
He shakes his head. "Jut two of them today. Hadon is staying with me since he's not using his hour properly." He turns back into the room. "Hiro, Woojin, you're dismissed."
A moment later the two join the girls in the hallway.
"'Hiro'?" Giri glances up at Akihiro, who shrugs.
"Just a nickname. Everyone comes up with it eventually."
Jinyi grins. "Well that's no wonder, 'Akihiro" is mouthful." She proclaims, just as the elevator arrives and they pile in.
Back in the mens' dance room, Hanhae and Hadon have taken to dabbing at random around the room while Eunchan dies of laughter against one of the mirrors and Rain looks both irritated and amused.
"While I'm happy you two are putting in more effort into dancing, this isn't quite what I meant." He shakes his head, ducking towards the floor to hide a smile.
Hadon grins cheekily in his interview. "Well he said he wanted us to be more enthusiastic about dancing. So we were."
Hanhae is equally cheery when he gives his own version. "He didn't specify what to be enthusiastic about. Easy misunderstanding."
Eunchan is still giggling when it's his turn to recount events. "It was awesome! Hadon and Hanhae are really fun guys. Rain told them they'd need to put more energy into the afternoon rehearsal and Hadon just started dabbing really aggressively, and then Hanhae joined in! It was great." He giggles through the entire explanation, and Gikwang rolls his eyes.
"Of course they did."
Back in the dance room, Rain raises his voice to be heard over the commotion. "Alright. Alright this is fun but did you know that I get to decide when you go home?"
That causes the three to look at him and he grins innocently.
"So, say that I feel you've done quite well, we could potentially get back to the dorms early! Though if I don't..."
Hadon groans. "Fine, you make a good point. Let's go back to h*ll time."
On the floor below Jinyi is making good on her promise to Giri from the day before as she attempts to help the other rapper with her flow. There's a lot of stumbling and apologizing on Giri's part, but Jinyi remains quite patient with her pupil.
"Just breath and let things flow naturally. Rap is about finding your own style, a flow that fits you."
Giri is panting slightly as she listens, and she nods before trying again.
"Jinyi really knows a lot about this stuff." She sounds almost awed in her interview. "I mean, I couldn't find that much on the internet but she managed to teach herself." She then looks down, slightly embarrassed. "I guess a lot of people manage that actually."
The scene transitions into a montage of the final days of the week. Woojin and surprisingly Hanhae both show improvement in their dancing on the boys' side of things, but the girls mostly seem to remain the same. Hadon does drag Eunchan and Hanhae into another round of dabbing on the very last day of practices, and they even convince Rain to awkwardly do a dab of his own before the idol, blushing, orders them to continue their actual practice, which they, perhaps surprisingly, do.
The final hour of self-practice shows Jinyoo working by herself for the first time while Myunghwa practices with her guitar in a separate room. Hadon is sitting with Jinyi, looking bored as she lectures him about proper rapper and earning a light whack on the head for his troubles. Giri seems to be getting a bit more done in her own room but she's still clearly nervous.
The final scene reconvenes the group in the dorms at the end of the final day of the week.
"It's been fun working with you all this week! Hopefully you learned something, because it's only going to get harder from here." Minzy smiles despite the hint of threat lacing her words.
Rain is a bit more lenient, though just as serious. "You all have worked hard, but as Minzy has said this is only the tip of the iceberg. You'll need to keep your best foot forward with all your mentors from here on out, and I don't mean your dabbing foot Hadon." He adds, shooting a look at where the rapper is sitting with Hanhae, looking quite proud of himself.
"Now before we leave, there's one final task we have to do." Minzy clears .
Jisoo and Akihiro both lean forward slightly, but the rest are apparently unaffected by the dramatics.
"For the main dance position in the girls' team. Jisoo." Minnzy declares.
Jisoo looks thrilled despite the announcement having arguably been obvious.
"And as for the lead dancer," Minzy hesitates, and then sighs. "Jinyi. Despite your obvious reluctance, you have great stage presence. Put a bit more of the effort into your dancing and I do believe that you'll be properly worthy of this position by the end of the show."
Jinyi looks bemused in her interview. "I have to say, I didn't see that coming."
Rain is next. "I'll just say both at one. Eunchan, you'll be the main dancer for the guys. And for lead dancer, I believe Woojin can carry that title effectively."
Akihiro looks a bit disappointed, while Woojin almost appears surprised, but he quickly reverts back to his usual look of distant disinterest.
Minzy then nods with finality. "Well then, we'll end it there. Good luck you guys."
Jinyi gives a wry grin as their mentors exit for the last time. "Goodness knows we'll probably need it."
Next week on SuperStar BootCamp...
"There are still positions up for grabs."
Jongwoon narrates as a montage of the participants working with private vocal coaches is shown. Each individual shot reveals each participant being criticized heavily, with their reactions varying from stony indifference to Giri actually bursting into tears. The montage ends with group shots of the teams working on choreographies with their blurred out mentors for the week."
"I hope they know how to multitask, because this week is the start of the real training."
