Episode Eight
SuperStar BootCamp ☆ Do You Have What It Takes To Be A Star?FANS
"Hello hello and welcome back to Boot Camp!" Although he's smiling, Jongwoon looks distinctly more worn down than usual in his intro.
"Last week threw us a real curveball here at SSBC, but we're pushing forward and our participants are as well! With only two weeks left we're running down the home stretch and the intensity level is only increasing." Jongwoon pauses to grin at the camera. "However this week we decided to give our participants a little surprise to lift their spirits! Idol life isn't all stress and antis, and this week is all about embracing the happier side of the stage." Now his smile is more genuine, and the camera pans away to show two figures entering the dorms.
The sun is up, but the participants are still home, all oddly quiet.
Jinyi is perched near the coffee machine, sipping out of her mug distractedly while Hanhae sits beside her, focused on his phone and presumably working on his blog. Hadon has his headphones in and is nodding distractedly along with whatever is playing. Akihiro is on the phone, standing a bit away from the group and talking softly while Giri sits beside Hadon on the couch, staring out into nothing, and beside her Woojin is much the same.
For a long moment the static hush remains, and then the door blows open and all at once it's loud.
"Good morning guys! Did you all enjoy the sleep in?" Standing in the doorway is Gold's Nam Haesol, grinning brightly and clashing heavily with the atmosphere of the room.
Behind Soul, Jeon Somi is a bit more cognizant of the mood and she keeps her voice at a lower decible as she adds her thoughts. "I hope we didn't interrupt anything, but we don't want to be late for our first day." She smiles sweetly, and earns a flritatious return grin from Hanhae.
"Well I can't say no to a request from a lovely lady such as yourself."
"Down boy, she's sixteen." Jinyi warns idly, barely glancing up from her coffee before returning her focus to it.
Hanhae shrugs. "I'm not trying to sleep with her, but she deserves to know that she's absolutely gorgeous. It's a compliment Ji."
Now Jinyi looks up, mildly amused. "Don't call me that. And fine, you make a good point." She turns to Somi. "I concur that you are indeed quite beautiful." She says solemnly to the idol, who looks rather befuddled by the entire situation.
Meanwhile Soul is having the time of his life watching their interactions. "Oh man can we do joint classes? These two are great! And of course I wouldn't say no to having a few gorgeous people around ot keep me sane." He winks at Giri, who immediately blushes bright red.
Hanhae grins. "You know, I think you and I will get along just fine." He comments to Soul, and the two begin chatting cheerfully as Akihiro emerges from the men's room, towing a sleepy Eunchan behind him.
"We're ready to go." He announces, clearly not thrilled by the new mentor's choice of friend.
Soul looks up and grins. "Awesome! Onwards to victory!"
Somi rolls her eyes slightly as the men leave. She then turns and seems to finally realize that only two of the women are present.
"Um, where are Jisoo and Myunghwa?" The young mentor sounds nervous, and Giri immediately goes over to her, smiling warmly.
"Myunghwa had to leave with the producer this morning. They said they wanted to do some recording with her before the day started, and Jisoo went with them. Jongwoon or Gikwang will probably drop them off so don't worry!" SHe smiles and Somi smiles back.
"Alright. Well, we should get going too then!"
A cut to Myunghwa shows her back in the recording studio, but this time she's equipped with her guitar.
"Alright if we can get a take half an octave up and then we should be good. Thanks again Myunghwa."
The singer nods and begins playing at a signal from the producer.
"A couple of rookie producers overheard my practice sessions with Hanhae and asked if I'd record some samples for the actual song." She explains in her interview, smiling almost pridefully. "We did a few takes and I got to sit in and listen to them mix it with the main track. I think it came out pretty well." She adds happily.
Jisoo is shown next. She's in the women's dance room, and she's wearing the high red heels provided to the women the previous week. Looking determined, she begins to dance, but stumbles when she miscalcuates a step and the heel gives out.
Growling under her breath, she gives her ankle a quick roll to check that it's working and starts again.
"I'll admit, I kept hoping the final song wouldn't involve heels." Jisoo is looking away from the interview camera in an attempt to hide the frustration painted across her face. "But since it does I'm determined to do it properly."
Back in the practice room, Giri pokes her head in as Jisoo once again loses her balance.
The two have a short exchange, and Jisoo sighs but pulls off the heels and puts her sneakers back on to follow Giri out of the room.
The women arrive at the recording studio, but instead of just picking up Myunghwa Somi ushers them all into the building.
"Since Jinyoo left we had to spend the first couple hours redistributing lines and then rerecording them." Somi sighs. "It really cut into the plans for the first day, but there's not much else we could do."
The women are gathered with one of the vocal coaches in a sound room, running through Jinyoo's lines in order to assist with the redistribution.
"My lines nearly doubled!" Jisoo looks thrilled as she chats with Gikwang. "I'm basically the lead vocal now, since Myunghwa is obviously the main one."
"I have to sing now." Jinyi is less enthused in her own interview. "Honestly I'm not surprised though. They did keep me in vocal lessons and it's just the one part so I can't complain too much."
Myunghwa is back to being nervous in her interview. "I have to do the adlibs now." She explains. "I'm not sure I'll be stable enough to hit the high notes while dancing."
The next shot shows the women leaving the recording studio and jumping into one of the vans, driven by Myunghwa, to head to the classrooms once again.
Once there Somi hurries them all to their room and closes the door.
"Okay, so we're behind schedule but it's not a huge problem." She smiles. "This week we're going to talk about fan interactions!"
There's a cut to the men in another classroom, and a timestamp in the corner notes that it's about two hours earlier in the day than when the women had arrived.
"I know you guys might have a bad opinion of fans after last week, but in reality fans are the best!" Soul grins brightly. "Heck if it weren't for them I wouldn't have debuted at all! Fans are the people who stand by you through thick and thin, people you can rely on to care about you."
"Even though you're lying to them constantly." Akihiro points out dryly.
There's a short cut to his interview. "I'm still not thrilled about last week." He admits begrudgingly. "I doubt one week will change my opinion on anything."
"It only took one week to make that opinion, so why not?" Gikwang points out.
Akihiro just shrugs.
Back in the classroom, Soul has taken to writing on the chalkboard. "A lot of people think that fans are most useful for gaining sales and winning awards, but in reality the bond of fans and idols goes a lot deeper than that."
Akihiro clearly bites back his thoughts, but Woojin speaks for him.
"You mean how they dig into your personal life and act like they own you?" His voice drips both sarcasm and exhaustion, and he almost looks like he regrets the words as soon as they're out of his mouth.
Soul frowns. "Personally I don't consider people like that fans. I'm talking about the ones who come to genuinely care about your well being, and trust me most fans I've met are like that."
Neither Akihiro nor Woojin seems convinced, but Eunchan is smiling happily.
"I think so too! I mean, idols are people obviously." He says cheerfully.
"It's a bit different with women, but the concept is the same." Two hours later Somi has given the women a similar speil about the positives of fans. "The main difference is that our fans are more protective, but antis tend to be a lot more aggressive."
"Which is bull." Jinyi grumbles.
Somi shrugs helplessly. "It's the way of the world."
"The way of Korea maybe. That's why Nohee - my partner - and I want to expand our business into Europe some day." Jinyi seems to have forgotten about the cameras in the interview room and seems to simply be ranting to Gikwang.
Gikwang reaches out to give her shoulder a light pat. "Only two more weeks Jinyi, you'll be fine."
She sighs. "I will be sure. But now I know what it's like behind the cameras and I'm not going to be forgetting about that any time soon."
Somi is still trying to convince the women of the positive aspects of fans when the scene returns to her.
"The pressure is higher yes, but that means the ultimate payoff is also better. I've met some really amazing people both behind the scenes and on the other side of the stage. Being an idol is tiring, but the joy you bring and the people you meet really does balance it out."
Giri raises a hand uncertainly. "Honestly Somi, it doesn't seem that way to me."
Somi frowns. "What do you mean?"
Giri coughs uncomfortably but continues. "Well, the way I see it that payoff won't actually balance out for everyone. I think each person should decide whether or not it's really worth it for them. I mean for me, I don't think the positives really outweigh the negatives at all, but for you they clearly do." She shifts. "Does that make sense?"
Somi smiles, looking almost relieved, and nods. "That's true. It's up to each trainee to decide how passionate they really are. If they think they'd be happier doing something else then the absolutely should! Not everyone can do every job after all."
Soul unfortunately doesn't seem to have come to a similarly neat wrap up and is instead locked in debate with the group.
"So if you can't really tell how any given fan will act how can you say with such certainty that most of them are good?" Hanhae sounds more like he's jumping in out of amusment than any real sense of accusation, but Soul look defensive regardless.
"You have to trust them. Relationships are built on trust and fan idol relations are no different."
"But you're not actually in a relationship with them." Akihiro points out flatly. "They're just fans."
Soul now looks genuinely insulted. "Never say that. Fans are important people to the idols they support and every idol worth their salt genuinely cares about their fans as much as their fans care about them."
His voice is powerful and leaves no room for argument, so Akihiro leans back in his chair and shrugs.
"Fine. Whatever helps you sleep at night."
Soul sighs in his interview. "Of course you can't expect a non idol to really understand the idol side of the relationship with the fandom, but even though I've only been debuted for a few months I can tell you it's really something important. It's sort of paradoxical some of the behavior it causes, but I love my fans." He sighs again. "It will be a miracle if I can convince Akihiro of that though. The guy has an ego the size of Russia."
The show returns to show the groups heading into the JTBC rehearsal studios. A marker notes that it's day two of the week.
The men head straight upstairs, but the women are met by Mirae in the main lobby. The choreographer is carrying a bag over her shoulder that draws a few curious looks but she gives them no explanation.
"Alright I need to hear the new arrangement." She instructs.
The women share a look but do an accapella rendition of their song as Mirae listens intently.
She frowns as they finish. "Alright, you can hang out for an hour down here and then come up. I should have the new formations worked out by then." With that she vanishes up the elevator, leaving the women standing awkwardly in a circle in the lobby.
"So, should we practice then?" Myunghwa suggests after a long moment of silence.
And then all at once Giri starts tearing up. "Why are we acting so normal?"
The others look at her, startled, and she sniffs, wiping fruitlessly at her eyes.
"I mean, Jinyoo just left two days ago but we're acting like she was never here at all. I know I was closest to her, but don't you guys care that she's gone?" Giri looks mildly embarrassed, but equally determined.
Myunghwa walks over to her and rest a hand lightly on her shoulder. "Giri, no one has forgotten Jinyoo, and trust me we all miss her. But we still have a show to put on, and it was her choice not to stay with us to the end. We'll respect that decision, but we can't let it stop us from continuing with our own paths."
Giri lets out a shaky sigh, eyes still watering. "Okay, yeah. I just... could we maybe do something tonight? Like a going away party or something?"
Myunghwa smiles. "I promise."
There's a cut to Jinyi's interview then, and the rapper is smiling slightly. "If Myunghwa isn't announced leader I'll be floored. She started out so hesitant and awkward, and she still is sometimes, but she's really good at caring for people." She decides.
"Leader? Jinyi said that?" Myunghwa smiles awkwardly. "I just wanted to help. I don't think it was anything special really."
Gikwang hesitates before replying. "It was special Myunghwa. You should accept compliments without playing them off, you deserve them."
Myunghwa blushes. "I... okay. Thanks then." She smiles.
While the women congregate around Myunghwa and her guitar to warm up properly, Hwanhee is having trouble with the men upstairs.
"Akihiro it's supposed to be a body roll there, but you're doing more of an awkward chest pump and it's painfully obvious." Hwanhee sighs. "Alright, everyone water break. Akihiro come here. You're wound far too tight, we need to loosen you up."
Hadon snorts as he head to the side of the room, and Akihiro rolls his eyes but stays put.
Hwanhee walks him to the other side of the room and sits him down. "Alright what's the problem?"
Akihiro seems confused by the question. "What do you mean? There's no problem, I've never been a good dancer."
Hwanhee doesn't bother trying to be tactful. "I'm not saying you're a good dancer, but you at least normally try. Today your head is a million miles away and it's making you even worse. I'm surprised you managed to not run into anyone during the spins at the end."
Akihiro looks stunned, but he quickly snaps back. "So I'm tired. We're all tired."
Hwanhee sighs. "It's more than exhaustion and we both know it. Figure this out or the entire team will be screwed." With that the chorographer dismisses him to take his own water break.
Akihiro sits beside Woojin, but Hadon is quick to plop down on his other side.
"You got in trouble!" He grins cheekily, and Akihiro growls under his breath.
"I did not, and could you be less mature?" He snaps.
Hadon shrugs, still looking cheeky, and something inside Akihiro seems to hit its limit.
The singer spins to fully face the rapper. "If anyone on this team should be getting in trouble it's you! Hanhae and you are always goofing around, but at least he's learned to be serious when we're rehearsing. You're always screwing around and you're the entire reason we still can't get through an entire run of the song! You're so stuck up in your own head that your making the rest of our lives difficult and you don't even seem to care." He rants.
Hadon raises an eyebrow. "Dude chill. It's just a show."
But for once the rest of the group doesn't back him up, and he looks over at Hanhae in surprise when the silence stretches without his friend offereing support.
"Maybe it's just a show to you, but while we're on it it's real." Woojin points out. "A team is only as good at it's weakest link, and much as I hate to agree with Akihiro you're definitely that link."
Akihiro looks unsure as to whether he should be smug or insulted so he settles for vaguely miffed.
Hadon still looks rather stunned in his interview. "I honestly had no idea they thought that. Even Hanhae didn't have my back." He frowns. "I mean, I don't want to stress myself out the way everyone else has but that did not feel good, that's for sure."
The scene returns to show the women arriving on the second floor and heading into their own pracice room.
Inside, Mirae is running through the dance, moving gracefully despite wearing heels, and a close up of Jisoo shows the dancer is rather awed by this.
Mirae glances up as the door opens and pauses the music. "Alright, I think I've got something for the dance, and I also have something for you." She grabs her bag and pulls it open.
Inside are white heels, lower than the red ones and thicker as well.
The women look confused but accept the shoes as Mirae explains.
"You were struggling enough with the heels without a completely overhaul of the dance, so I thought lower, better supported heels would allow for more focus to be put on the dancing rather than the balancing."
Jisoo subtly looks at the other women to see if they're looking at her, but everyone is busy putting on their new shoes, and after a moment the dancer follows suit.
Mirae smiles when they stand and she directs them into their new starting spots. "Alright, most of the dance is the same, but I have decided to change the chorus dance back to it's original state since Jinyoo is no longer here and she seemed to be the only one uncomfortable with it. Am I correct in assuming that?"
Myunghwa doesn't look thrilled by the announcement, but when the other three nod she nods along, and Mirae smiles happily.
"Great! I think it will look a lot better this way."
Myunghwa buries her face in her hands in a cut away to her interivew. "Honesty, I'm not really comfortable with that move, but I mean idols do y stuff all the time so I can't really complain. Even Giri is alright with it."
However it seems Giri isn't quite as thrilled as she'd let on in the practice. "I don't think dances like that are bad or anything! But for me personally..." She trails off awkwardly. "But I don't want to let the team down and it really does look cool when Mirae does it." She adds after a moment's contemplation.
The next shot returns the groups to their mentors on day three, and this time all nine are together in the same room.
Somi lets Soul do the talking.
"So we've discussed why fans are important and how to talk to them, but today we'll see how well you've actually been paying attention! Each group will have a turn as the fans, and the group's job is to give a signature and have a short conversation with each fan without insulting them.
Several of the participants light up at the announcement, and Eunchan's exclamation a moment later shows why.
"It's like improv again!"
Soul grins. "For the fans, definitely. You can be whoever you like, so long as you are a fan of the group and not an anti." He looks pointedly over at Jinyi, who grins innocently.
"I totally would have been an anti." She admits shamelessly to Gikwang later, and he laughs.
"Of course you would."
Back with the groups, the men have taken the roll of the group and the women are discussing what sort of fans they want to be.
"I want to be one of those fangirls who's convince they're going to marry one of the members." Jisoo announces. "The crazy characters are always fun to play!"
Jinyi sighs. "Dang it I wanted that. But fine I'll be super awkward. Unless you wanted that one Myunghwa?" She says it teasingly but Myunghwa blushes heavily.
"No! No I'm good. I'll think of something."
Giri voices a similar sentiment, and they stand up to face the men who are sitting behind several desks arranged to look like a long table.
Jinyi leans over and whispers something to Jisoo, who makes a face at her, but then looks contemplative, and finally smiles and nods to Jinyi, who grins back mischieviously.
Giri opts to go first, and she plays a typical fan, gushing a bit but trying to somewhat keeps a conversation going. Jinyi goes next, and the men seem more thrown by her being the one acting awkward than the awkwardness itself, which has Jinyi laughing as soon as she gets through the line.
It's Jisoo's turn next, but she waves for Myunghwa to go ahead, and she goes in and attempts to press the men for personal information as casually as possible. Eunchan and Hadon both slip up but the other three stay firm, as they had throughout the fake fansign.
Finally Jisoo steps up, clears , and rockets straight past Hanhae and Woojin to talk to Akihiro.
"Oppa! Annyeong oppa I'm your biggest fan!"
Hadon immediately bursts out laughing, nearly choking in his amusement. Akihiro meanwhile looks extremely startled as Jisoo continues her onslaught.
"I've bought all your products oppa! Can you sign more than one thing? I brought as much as I could with me!" She's bouncing as she talks, pure adoration in her eyes as Akihiro glances towards Soul in search of assitance, only to find the mentor is laughing as well. Clearing his throat awkwardly, Akihiro begins signing the merchandising, not looking Jisoo in the eye.
After a moment, when it become clear he won't respond to her, Jisoo begins tearing up. "Oppa? Oppa do you hate me?" All at once she breaks down completely, sobbing loudly and collapsing.
Everyone at the table is grinning now, and several look impressed by Jisoo's acting.
"She could go pro if she got some training." Woojin comments in his interview. "I have to admit it was nice to see Akihiro squirm. Jinyi and Jisoo are a formidable teamup."
"I just suggested the person she like be Akihiro since he's such a all the time." Jinyi grins. "Jisoo's the one who really sold it. That meltdown was priceless!"
"I wouldn't have thought to even consider Akihiro if it wasn't for Jinyi. You know, she has some pretty good ideas." Jisoo is equally cheerful in her interivew.
Akihiro, by contrast, looks haggard. "Fans aren't really like that are they? It seems so excessive. But..." He looks reluctant. "I felt bad about it. Jisoo is far too good an actress."
Back in the room Soul acts as security to '' the distraught Jisoo away, and as soon as she's on the sidelines again she grins and high fives Jinyi, tears drying instantly.
The men except Akihiro all stand up shortly after to go talk to the women about the exercise, leaving Akihiro alone at the table, still stunned and looking utterly disillusioned.
The rest of the week is sped through in a montage of dance practice and more games with Soul and Somi. Finally a time stamp announces that it's the final day.
Soul and Somi meet the groups on the front steps of the dorms, grinning.
"You guys ready for today?" Soul prompts.
He gets a few nods of affirmation, but a majority of the group seems nervous.
The mentors usher the participants into their vans and they head off.
There's a cut to an interview with Jongwoon. "For the final day we arranged for a situation where the participants can practice their new skills, and allow for us to arrange a little surprise for them as well." Jongwoon grins. "I think today will end well for our participants."
The vans pull up to a small open air auditorioum, and there's a small crowd milling around the entrance as the participants exit the vans. Upon sighting the groups several of the crowd members get excited, waving and calling out names.
Hanhae takes it in stride, grinning at the fans and waving charismatically. Jinyi fires off a few flirtatiou winks while Eunchan and Jisoo excitedly wave as well.
Myunghwa and Giri are a bit more reserved as they simply smile, though Giri giggles when she spots Hadon making ridiculous faces at some of the younger members of hte crowd.
Woojin and Akihiro barely acknowledge the congregated people. Woojin gives a few nods when he hears his name specifically, while Akihiro just looks awkward in general.
"I'm not normally this tense. I think this show is finally getting to me." The Japanese man laments to Gikwang in his interview.
Inside the auditorium, a table is set up and the mentors are quick to direct the groups to the other side of it.
"Today's schedule shouldn't take too long if we set up quickly. You guys did your makeup this morning, right?" Somi has pulled out a checklist and is checking that everything is in order.
"Hadon even managed it on his own!" Jisoo confirms, grinning over at the older male who simply rolls his eyes.
Somi nods and hurries off to check in with a few staffers who are still setting up the area.
"So this is just a fansign right? THere aren't secret antis or some twist you're going to spring on us at the last second?" Akihiro sounds wary as he scans the area, and Soul laughs.
"I understand the concern, but don't worry. We've told the fans to be nice, and anyone who tries to cause trouble will be asked to leave." Soul assures the concerned singer, who doesn't look persuaded but returns to sit behind the table with the rest of the participants regardless.
The scene fast forwards through the remainder of the set up time, during which the participants mostly chat with one another while their mentors help the staff where needed. Myunghwa and Giri both try to help but are shooed back to their seats by a very insistent staffer and kept there by excited chatter from Eunchan who's settled nearby.
Finally the first fans enter the auditorium, and the scene returns to normal speed.
The congrecation is a bit less formal than a standard fansign, as the fans approach the group and random and everyone is simply chatting rather than getting anything signed.
There's a group of girls gathered around Jisoo, begging her for dance tips while the youngest female participant preens slightly under the attention. Jinyi is meanwhile talking up her bakery to anyone who gets close enough while Hanhae makes sassy comments next to her. Hadon is entertaining his own group of fangirls, showing off some freestyle beatboxing and enthusiastically telling them about the upcoming championships.
Giri has a smaller group, but from the look on her face it's clear she knows the teens surrounding her.
"A bunch of my students came by to encourage me and tell me I'm doing really well." She's grinning broadly in her interview, choking up a bit as she speaks. "I'm supposed to be the one supporting them, but they're supporting me this time. It was really nice to talk with them today."
Woojin and Akihiro are mostly by themselves, though a few younger women are trying to talk with Woojin about acting. Myunghwa is similarly unmobbed, though she's maintaining a steady stream of conversation with the people who do walk up to her.
"It was really interesting talking to all the people who watch the show." She muses to Gikwang. "It's such a variety. I met a surgeon and an education major, but there was also a highschool drop out who was just as invested in the show." She smiles. "It's really nice to see such different people invested in the same thing. We aren't all so different when it comes down to it."
The next shot is later in the day, and most of the fans have left. The bird's eye view given by the camera shows the remaining fans wrapping up their conversations at the behest of the week's mentors and heading out of the auditorium.
The shot switches to ground level to show the participants packing up their things, but Somi waves for them to sit back down.
"We have one last surprise for you guys!"
The groups look at each other and the mentors in slight confusion for a moment before Giri's eyes suddenly widen and she lets out a shreik that has Myunghwa concerned and everyone else covering their ears.
Giri races across the audtorium, the camera panning around to follow each step, and flings herself at a young man who had just walked in.
"Minjae! I miss you!"
Behind him, several others appear and all the contestants react with joyful surprise as their friends and family walk over.
Only Woojin remains stoic, standing to the side and clearly not expecting any visitors, only for a young woman to sneak up behind him and grab him into a hug.
"Hey loser, way to waste your fifteen minutes of fame! You act like a statue half the time."
For the first time, Woojin smiles broadly, clearly thrilled with his visitor. "Hello Minji, good to see you haven't changed."
"Minji is my best friend. She's absolutely my favorite person in the entire world probably, so I'm really glad you guys brought her in." He's still smiling in the interview, and it's clearly freaking Gikwang out a bit though the interviewer is polite enough to not comment on the odd occurence.
Back in the audotorium Hanhae has been ambushed by a middle-aged woman, who's fussing over him heavily.
"Goodness sweetie have you lost weight? You're already so tiny that's not healthy! What are they feeding you on this show?"
Hanhae sighs, but he's smiling. "Mom could you not in front of the guys?"
"Too late, your rep is destroyed." Jinyi comments, laughing. With her is a young woman, who smiles shyly at Hanhae and his mother.
Hanhae grins and waves them over. "So is this the famous partner I've heard so much about?" He asks once the two women are closer.
Jinyi grins and slings an arm around the woman. "She is! Hanhae, this is Nohee, the greatest girl in the world. Nohee, this is the loser I'm stuck talking to while on the show."
Nohee laughs lightly and takes Hanhae's offered hand. "Nice to meet you." She then blushes as he leans over to kiss the back of her hand.
"How a lovely lady such as yourself ended up having to deal with the whirlwind that is Jinyi I have no idea, but if you ever need rescuing I'd be more than happy." He winks up at her, only for his mother to scold him loudly about flirting with random women while Nohee continues to blush and Jinyi laughs.
Nearby Hadon is chatting with a family of four. The man in the group is labeled as Oh Kyungsoo, Hadon's best friend and fellow rapper.
"How's the scene looking? Tell me we're getting some exposure from all this." Hadon grins though he looks tired. "This is the most work I've done in years."
Kyungsoo laughs. "You poor thing, actually having to stress about anything."
Hadon rolls his eyes. "Hey I'm doing this for you." He fires back. "Anyway how are things? I miss the scene."
Nearby Eunchan has latched himself onto one of his visitors, who's noted to be his sister Mikwon.
"Unnie I've missed you so much! They don't let us make calls." He pouts sadly.
Mikwon pets his head comfortingly. "Just one more week Channie, then you can come home!"
Eunchan doesn't look very pleased with this either.
"I miss my family but I really like it here! The island is so small and boring, I want to explore the city more!" He explains. "I wish I could do both." He pouts slightly as he finishes speaking.
Jisoo is the next participants shown. She's sitting with a man and woman and chatting happily. The two are labelled as her brother Jiwoo and her best friend Nara respectively
"So how are mom and dad? I assume they've seen the show?" She presses Jiwoo, and he gives a shrug in response.
"You know how they are. They keep saying that as long as you still do well on your exams you can do as you please."
Jisoo sighs and plops her head onto her forearms. "What will it take?" She moans into the table.
Nara pats her back consolingly. "At least you got a good two months of dance right? I know it hasn't been perfect but you look like you've made some friends?"
Jisoo looks up at her, and then looks around at the other contestants, wordlessly.
"...I don't think I've made any friends." She sounds devastated in her interview. "I mean, I came here to dance but I think I might have been too short sighted. Everyone else has their clique but I'm just..." She trails off. "There's still one more week. I can fix this."
Giri is shown again when the scene cuts back to the auditorium. She's still wrapped around the man she'd jumped earlier - noted to be her husband, Mo Minjae - and the couple is talking with Akihiro and Sarang, who's similarly curled around her husband.
"Wow, seven years is quite a while. We've only been together for..." Minjae hesitates and glances over to Giri. "Three years now, right?"
She nudges him with her elbow. "Counting dating we've been together seven years as well you doof." But she's smiling and her tone is incredibly warm as she looks up at her husband.
A nearby visitor pretends to gag at the display. "Yuck. Romance."
The man is noted to be Myunghwa's younger brother Myunghwan, and hs sister whaps him lightly on the head with her free hand. The other is occupied by a younger girl wh's clinging to Myunghwa like she'll never let go.
"Ouch! Jeez this show has made you cranky." Myunghwan grumbles, rubbing at the back of his head.
The little girl in Myunghwa's arms claps happily, nearly causing Myunghwa to drop her. Gently the singer places the girl on the ground, only for her to attach herself to Myunghwa's leg.
"When are you coming home? I miss you." She pouts adorably, and even Myunghwan pauses from him grumbling to smile at the cute sight.
"Just one more week sweetie." Myunghwa smiles, and then her expression falters slightly.
She explains why in her interview. "There's only one week left. I didn't realize how fast it would go but... I'm actually going to kind of miss this. Don't get me wrong, I can't wait to go home and make sure my brother hasn't burned the place down, but at the same time it feels like we just started." She sighs. "I'm actually going to miss you guys."
Next week on SuperStar BootCamp...
"As they say, all good things must come to an end."
The montage shows the groups practicing hard for their debut stages. Interspersed around the pracice footage are shots showing the contestants just hanging out, laughing and goofing around. The last shot lingers for a long moment on the empty JTBC stage before Jongwoon's voice over sounds once more.
"It's time for one last bow. Let's make it one to remember."
