Big Ben

The London air was fresh in Yongguk’s skin, and the sky was blue. ‘What a wonderful day’ he thought with smile, a smile that could steal heartstrings. For London is blessed with a rare day, of baby blue sky and sunlight beams hitting the busy pavements. Yongguk has only lived in the United Kingdom for a month and a half now, he was still getting used to the moods swings of it's weather. One second it could be the best day ever, the next it was like the heavens were crying. Yongguk walked across the bridge, he wasn't paying attention. As he bumped into someone, next minute he knows a dog is snarling and barking at him. He stumbles away from the canine, he looks at the canine to see it was a guide dog. Not like a normal golden retriever, or a Labrador it was a Belgian malinois. The kind of dog mainly used for police work, not guide.

“Roxanne shush...sorry she's friendly for the most part” The boy said

Yongguk looks up to the boy, he was young and well probably the most beautifully at person he’s ever seen.

“That's ok I guess she is doing her job as taking care of you” Yongguk replied calmly

“She does...uh I'm sorry if I got in your way” The boy said softly

“No it was my fault” Yongguk said smiling softly

“Oh ok well bye I’ve got to go now” The boy said slowly

Yongguk wanted to stop him, to tell him his name and get to know him. However the words just wouldn't come out, as he watched the blind boy leave. His dog showing him the way through the busy London crowds, it truly amazed him at how unaffected the boy seemed to be by being blind.

Yongguk found himself back at the same place, looking for the boy. He didn't know why, but he couldn't get him out of his head. He wanted to get to know the boy, and he wanted to get close to him. If his dog would allow him to that is, a beautiful boy protected by a beautiful dog. It gained Yongguk's interest and his new goal in life, find the blind boy that stole his heart. For weeks on end Yongguk found himself, coming back to look for the boy. It seemed like it was a loss of hope, as he never saw the boy again.

Not until today he when he walked through the park, he saw the boy sat on a bench with his dog. Taking a deep breath Yongguk, went up to the boy.

“Uh...hi you won't remember me not completely but I was the man your dog barked at aggressively few weeks ago...about maybe six weeks ago” Yongguk said kind of awkwardly

“Hi I do kind of remember that deep voice...why do you approach me? Did she hurt you?” The boy asked softly

“No, no she didn't do anything wrong other than giving me a small heart attack that is but I...I know it sounds cheesy and stuff but you captured my uh my eyes and my interest...I would really like to get to know you on a uh...a date? Maybe?” Yongguk stammered out awkwardly

“I...I don't know that's a bit forward...I don't even know how old you are? Or your name?” The boy said unsure

“Well my name is Bang Yongguk and I'm 24 years old I’ve been in the UK for a month and a half now” Yongguk introduced himself

“I’m Yoo Youngjae and I'm 21 years old I lived in the UK for 3 years going on 4 now” Youngjae said smiling softly

“So we now both know each other...will you go on a date with me Yoo Youngjae?” Yongguk asked cheerful

“I don't know are you handsome?” Youngjae asked grinning

“I uh I guess but how wou-” Yongguk began confused

“Come here” Youngjae ordered

Yongguk sat down beside Youngjae, and looked to the blind boy. Who lifted his hands, and cupped his face, fingers touched every contour of Yongguk’s face. His nose, eyes, cheekbones, ears and his lips. A smile spread across Youngjae’s face, as he pulled his hands away.

“Handsome...sure I’ll go on a date with you” Youngjae said happily

“I’m so glad you accepted...uh where should I pick you up?” Yongguk asked

“Tomorrow pick me up tomorrow outside of Big Ben I get off of work at 6:50 I work there you see” Youngjae said smiling

“Ok so tomorrow at 6:50 outside your work which is at Big Ben” Yongguk assured himself

“Yep...well I’ll see you then bye” Youngjae said softly

“Bye” Yongguk replied smiling

Yongguk watched as Youngjae left, he held his dog close to him. Yongguk smiled to himself, happy that he finally got to see Youngjae again. Now all he had to do was not mess it up, he wanted to be friends with the boy and maybe more in the future.

The next day, Yoo Youngjae sat in work. He was a receptionist in Big Ben, he took people's queries and phoned the needed people. He was blind so he couldn't do much else, however he has worked here since his arrival in the UK. An an accident was what rendered him blind, so his boss found him another way to work. It was the end of his shift, and tonight was the night of the date. He let Roxanne pull him into the dressing room, getting out of his work clothes. Youngjae got dressed into his father's old suit, he gave it to him when he left Korea. He goes up to the reception desk, his memory of the place made it easy for him. He bet he could get around the place, without Roxanne if he wanted too.

“Jessie I...I have a date tonight he should be picking me up soon but I...I want to know how I look?” Youngjae asked nervously

“My JaeJae is on a date?! Well I must be dreaming so who is the lucky lass or pad?” Jessie asked Jamaican accent thick, she was his best friend.

“His name is Yongguk he’s been in the UK for a month and a half” Youngjae replied softly

“Tell him that if he hurts you he won't just have a angry dog chewing his out he’ll have a Jamaican girl rearranging his face anyways JaeJae you look amazing and so handsome heads will turn” Jessie said happily

“Too bad I won't be able to see it happen...I best be off wish me luck Jess” Youngjae said nervous again

“You will be fine baby boy go have fun and be safe ok and I will want to hear about tomorrow” Jessie warned

“See you tomorrow” Youngjae replied chuckling

Jessie was always so funny, she cracked many jokes and at first it took time to get them. When Youngjae was new he had no clue, yet now his sense of humour has changed to fit into hers too.

Youngjae strolled outside and sat down on the bench, waiting for Yongguk to arrive. A hand on his shoulder makes him jump.

“Oh sorry Youngjae I didn’t mean to startle you...come I got the best restaurant for us.

A minute walk away from Big Ben, they were sat on a terrace. Drinking the best wine, and awaiting for their food to arrive. Yongguk found himself really nervous, he didn’t know what to ask Youngjae or what to say at all.

“So you lived here a month and a half so far why did you come to the UK?” Youngjae asked curious

“I got a really good promotion at this business I couldn’t turn it down...how about you 3 years here?” Yongguk returned a question

“I wanted a different scenery in my life so I moved from Korea to the Uk heh funny I only got to enjoy the beauty of London for a year” Youngjae said smiling

“Why? What happened?” Yongguk asked finding his question soon to be obvious.

“Well I went blind didn’t I...it as a bus accident and all the windows smashed it was like something out of a movie...anyways I managed to escape with few cuts and bruises but loads of glass shards went into my eyes the doctors couldn’t save them so in the end I lost all sense of sight” Youngjae explained

“Why didn’t you get scared of the UK after? Like why didn’t you go back home to Korea?” Yongguk asked

“I couldn’t go back to Korea there was nothing left for me there plus I wasn’t going to let an accident ruin my life...I still managed to keep my job in Big Ben I wasn’t at a complete loss...do I miss having sight? Of course but I’m not depressed over the loss” Youngjae said truthfully

“Why did you chose to have a guide dog and not a stick?” Yongguk quizzed away

“I’ve always liked dogs and so I thought it would be best to get a guide dog...I did try the stick but it scared me and I didn’t feel safe but Roxanne makes me feel safe….especially given that my job can have me ending at like 1 or 2 in the morning...she’s a Belgian malinois so she scares anyone away who could be a possible threat she is also my companion she keeps me company...anyways what about you? Are you planning on staying in the UK long?” Youngjae explained his story

“I don’t know I’m going to see where this promotion takes me but I do hope to stay in London for a few years” Yongguk said smiling.

The two talked throughout the rest of the date, about their likes and dislikes. Yongguk got to find out how much of an actual soft ball of cuteness, Roxanne really was and that she wasn’t all that scary. Youngjae though the night went well, and he would like to see Yongguk again. Yongguk really wanted to see Youngjae again, as soon as he walked him home. Left him at his door with a kiss on the cheek, Yongguk was missing him already. He had utmost respect for Youngjae, the boy carried himself well and he didn’t let his disability affect him. The bond between him and his dog will always mesmerize Yongguk, he held so much faith and truth in that dog. The two saw a budding friendship between them, and maybe in the near future something more.
