Mark plasters on a polite smile on his face when a guest enters the hall congratulating his brother. The soon-to-be-husband Jackson shakes the hands of his fiancé’s relatives, bowing respectfully to each one of them. When the guests stop mass entering, he turns to his little brother, “I never knew this was going to be tiring,” he confesses to Mark who laughs.
“Hyung, you were the one who wanted to marry as soon as possible. Youngji noona didn’t want to rush things,” the younger one points out. “I just wanted to have little Jacksons running around.” Jackson fakes a cry, and Mark chuckles.
“Hey, how about you? You okay?” His older brother asks after a mere moment. Unlike before, his voice is laced with slight concern. He knows that Mark’s first girlfriend (his only girlfriend) is attending the wedding. It doesn’t help that his younger brother is still not over Nani even after a few years. Jackson knows that it’s Mark’s fault why they broke up in the first place, but he also knows that the latter is regretting it every bit of it every day.
“I’m fine, hyung.” Mark attempts a small smile. Jackson already has a lot on his hands as it is. He doesn’t want to add to his brother’s stress.
“You sure?” He searches the younger one’s eyes, clearly worried. “Uh-huh. Don’t worry about me,” Mark whispers before plastering another smile on his face when another guest comes in. Jackson decides to let it go, but he is still concerned.
“Oh, Mark, Jackson!” A pleasant voice tinkers. The brothers look to the right to find Nani and her family. It’s her. Nani. Mark thinks. His breath is caught up on his throat, and he turns slightly nervous. Jeon Nani looks as beautiful as she had been before. Only, her hair is longer now, and she has matured. She doesn’t know how much he has missed her. It took a lot of his will power not to hug her right there and apologize over and over again.
“Congratulations, Jackson! Your wife looks beautiful.” Her mother compliments, her usual big smile on her face. “Thank you, ahjumma. Thank you also for coming.” Jackson politely smiles. “You’re welcome. Oh, Mark, honey, hello! You’ve become more handsome,” she praises, and he smiles back, although a little more weakly. Mrs. Jeon doesn’t know that he had cheated on her daughter, and now his guilt is attacking him more than ever.
He meets Nani’s eyes, but she turns away before their eye contact could even last longer. Even though, it’s long enough for Mark to assess that they look hollow and… a little hurt? He averts his eyes briefly, his regret at its . A thousand times he has imagined this day to come. He had it all played in his mind, but he certainly didn’t picture it this way – that Nani is still affected by him.
Somehow, even though she’s not exactly happy to see him, Mark is glad that he still has an effect on her.
Her older brother gives him a firm look, clearly telling him to behave. Wonwoo is laid-back, but he’s protective when it comes to his sister. He had known that Mark hurt her, and the latter had even come to the older boy way back, pleading and apologizing over and over, thus, earning a cut and a bruise on his face.
“Please, help yourselves.” Jackson smiles as he respectfully directs them to the seats.
Half an hour later, the ceremony starts. Mark can’t be happier for his brother. Youngji is very funny and thoughtful, exactly Jackson’s type. He knows that they love each other a lot and that they’d continue be together until the end. He doesn’t want to lie about it – that he’s envious.
