Byul headed to her grandpa’s cabin as the doctor’s words flashed in her mind

*His condition is not that well…he has problems regarding his kidneys and there seems to be damage in his brain too. All this may be because of his old age*

“Wae?” she muttered as she sat on the chair and sighed deeply wiping her tears

*Why am I alone and facing all this?*

Byul took a deep breath and walked inside

“Haraboji, how did the medication go?” Byul asked

“Needles always hurt” her grandfather laughed a bit

“Haraboji, do you want to go on a date with me?” Byul asked

“Jinjja?”

“Em…come, let me help you get on your chair” Byul said helping him sit on his wheel chair

“Your sweater” she said helping him with his sweater

“And a blanket to keep you warm” she smiled

“My cheonsa is all grown up” her grandfather smiled

“Of course I am already 18” she said proudly as she wheeled him out

“Winters are colder than ever this year” Byul said as her grandfather inhaled the air

“The air outside is much better” he said as Byul nodded smiling

“Haraboji, is there anything you want to do?” Byul asked strolling leisurely

“I just want to be with my granddaughter” he said

“You know I’m right here” Byul smiled fixing his blanket

“How is Gyu-ah?” he asked

“He is fine…they are on an overseas tour and will be back only after a few weeks” Byul said

“When you get married with Gyu-ah, make sure I am the guest of honor” her grandfather said

“Of course, I will…”Byul smiled

“Haraboji, do you miss harmoni?” Byul asked

“Of course, but I miss my cheonsa more. Since I am joining your grandmother soon” her grandfather answered smiling as he looked at the sea

Byul felt her eyes tear up as she sat in front of her grandfather

“Haraboji, you are not going anywhere leaving me alone em? How can you expect your Byul to live on her own?” Byul asked as her grandfather smiled a sad smile and rubbed her tears away

“You have Mingyu to take care of you, that’s the only reason why I’ve decided to leave” he said

“Haraboji” Byul said tears streaming down her face

“Things are not good between me and Mingyu. We haven’t seen each other for two months…how can you leave me in such a situation?” Byul asked

“TaeByul…Even after haraboji is gone, don’t do anything stupid and always be happy. I will be watching you from above” he smiled looking at the blue sky

“Aniya haraboji” Byul said holding his hand

“I just have one last wish” her grandfather said

“What is it, haraboji?” Byul said looking at him

“Take me home, I want to spent my last days in my house and not in the hospital” her grandfather said

“TaeByul-ah” he called in a loving tone

“Neh haraboji” Byul answered

“I know I am going and neither of us can change that…please just grant me that last wish of mine” he said as Byul hugged her grandfather

“Arasso haraboji I will…but please don’t speak like that again. I’m scared” Byul said as her grandfather patted her back as a tear escaped his eye

“Saranghae haraboji” Byul said

“My dearest granddaughter” her grandfather said.

Byul walked back slowly taking her grandfather to his room

“Haraboji must be tired, right?” she asked trying not to sound too weak

“Some sleep will do” her grandfather said as Byul nodded

Byul closed the door behind her and helped her grandfather get on his bed

“Sleep tight haraboji” Byul smiled fixing his blanket

Byul kissed her grandfather’s forehead and walked outside the cabin room as she sat on the chair outside and let out silent sobs

⋆Looking back today, I should have spent more time with haraboji. I should have gone on more dates with him. I should have listened to everything he told me. I should have taken more pictures with him. But it’s only because I didn’t know…haraboji was really going to leave me soon.⋆
