Vigilante"If there wasn't a killer on the loose, this would be a perfect vacation," Dabin said, walking down the centre of the main town, one hand tucked in Sehun's, the other clutching an ice cream cone. Around them, a few locals hurried by, whispering about the murders. A handful of tourists meandered in and out of the small shops. Some looked jumpy, but others just seemed oblivious.
He grinned. "Really? Because if I'd had to guess your ideal vacation when I first met you, I would've said having a killer to chase in between short stretches of lying on the beach."
"Don't forget I'm armed," she joked back, aware in that instant how far removed this moment was from the rest of her life. Even with a serial killer to profile, this was the least she'd worked in years.
This must be what normal felt like, she mused.
The past three days on this island marked a turning point for her. A before and after of solving her best friend's case. A before and after for her whole life.
The drive to find out what had happened to Hana had propelled her through years of graduate school, the NIS Training Academy, and then into the Service's specialised profiling unit. Without that single mission ahead of her, everything was going to change. The thought sent panic surging through her veins.
Sehun must have felt it since all of a sudden he pulled her towards a more secluded area, tugged her against him and, almost squashing her ice cream cone, he pressed his lips to hers. After a few minutes of standing in the street kissing Sehun, the panic receded.
"We should consider extending our vacation," Dabin said, wishing they could actually do it. The reality was that in four more days, they'd be going home. Once they returned to Seoul, there'd be no more kissing in the street. Back home, they'd have to pretend they were nothing more than colleagues.
She'd worry about that later. For the next four days, she was going to focus on enjoying herself.
"Are you the NIS profiler?"
The voice came from behind her, soft and quiet, and so unexpected she jumped. She hadn't heard anyone approaching.
But as she turned around, she realized Sehun had seen him coming and from his expression, Sehun had already decided the guy wasn't a threat.
