'Best in Drama', goes to...

I love you, goodbye...

 CHAPTER 7

 Mrs. Lee's POV:

"Wahhh! W-wahhh!" I heard the sound of a baby's cry. *sigh* Here we go again.

I rubbed my 'still closed', sleepy eyes before trying to lift my head off the pillow. I managed to make it half way, but I couldn't help but collapse back down again. There was a bit of conflict between my eyes and my brain right now. My eyes telling me to go back to sleep (which I would love to do), while my brain was telling me to go to my baby. Hmm... decisions, decisions. My eyes seemed to be winning the battle. I felt myself slowly drifting off to dreamland again...

"Wahhh! W-WAHHH!" The cry was getting louder. I guess you really can't run away from responsibility. Okay, okay! I'm coming bubba...

Without further ado, I forcefully lifted myself up from the bed. The 'oh so comfy' bed. Believe me, I haven't had much sleep these past few months... and this was just going to be another one of those, 'sleepless' nights.

I walked over to the crib in a drunken manner, sort of limping along the way. My eyes were still completely shut. Wow... I have x-Ray vision now, do I? Nice.

I don't even think I realized that I was only wearing one slipper. Great, I have officially gone mad.

By this time, my eyes have finally opened. Good thing too, or else I would've probably tripped on som-... Ahh!

I knew it, my foot hit something.

 I looked down. What the?

Okay, let me rephrase that. My foot hit, someone. My 'husband', to be exact. What on earth is Sangmin doing on the floor?!

He was lying flat on his stomach with his head facing the side, snoring heavily as usual. Did he fall off the bed or something? Oops, I must of accidentally *cough cough* pushed him off? No, it can't be. He weighs the same as a full grown, adult whale! He's impossible to move! Strange, very strange. Looks like he has a story to tell me later. A sudden loud snore/hiccup erupted from his throat. I laughed.

I reached the crib at the sight of a very upset looking baby. I carefully picked him up and carried him with his little head just a bit over my shoulder, while gently rubbing up and down his back. His cries were a lot softer now. I think I'm getting better at this whole, 'mother' thing.

After a few minutes, Kwangie was asleep again. I layed him back down into his crib. He really was such a beautiful sight to watch. My eyes traced the soft features on his tiny face, before slowly landing on his chest moving up and down in steady beats. *sigh* So adorable...

My sleepiness soon returned, so I made my way back to the bed. Just as I layed down, I heard another faint cry.

"What? I just put him to sleep, didn't I?" I sat up again and looked over to the crib. Huh? Kikwang was sleeping peacefully. Hmm, maybe it was just my imagination.

 "Ah-ahh!"

Okay. I'm pretty sure I heard that. I quickly got up and walked over to Kikwang again. Turns out, it wasn't him. What was it?

I looked around the room, before my eyes landed on the calendar. After studying it for a while, I finally realized. *gasp* Soojin was going to give birth... TODAY!

"AHH!" I heard her scream. Yeah, it was Soojin.

I ran outside towards her room and opened the door. Junghwa was helping her up off the bed, while holding the car keys between his teeth. Talk about 'multitasking'.

"Kyung-ah!" Soojin screamed after seeing me in the doorway. It was really hard for her to walk, so I came up beside her as support.

"Yeobo! We need help!" I called out to my husband.

No answer. Oh right... I forgot.

Nothing, and I mean nothing on this earth can awaken that sleeping beast. He probably needs an alarm clock planted inside his brain! Hmm, actually... I think I might try that out one day.

"Junghwa, hand me the keys... I'll go get Sangmin." He gave me the keys (note: that were in his mouth, ew...) and I ran back to the bedroom.

Sangmin was still in the same position on the floor. Oh my, how convenient. I leaned down and shook him furiously.

"Yeobo! YEOBO! We need to get Soojin to the hospital! She's about to give birth! YEOBO!" He still didn't budge. *sigh* That's it...

I stood up again and took a few steps back.

"You asked for it..." And with that, I jumped on him.

"Ahh!" He finally woke up and groaned in pain. Well, I guess that worked. Haha...

"Well, it's not my fault you're such a sloth! Yeobo, get up! Soojin's about to give birth!" I took his hand and tried to lift him up.

 Result = fail. *sigh*

 Lessons learned so far:

1) I'm short

2) I'm weak

3) I married a sloth!

"W-what?! Okay umm, I'll get the car..." He finally stood up and grabbed the keys off me, before running downstairs. Ugh, about time.

I went back to Junghwa and Soojin, who have just made it halfway through the corridor. Junghwa was too busy supporting her, so I went to get her handbag from their room. After that, I picked up Kwangie and followed them to the car.

[At the Hospital]

Sangmin and I were waiting patiently outside the operating room. I managed to put Kikwang back to sleep in the pram while waiting. He was really upset when I woke him up before we left the house.

"AHHHHH!" I could feel Soojin's pain through her scream. I knew how she felt. You feel like the whole world is crashing down on you. Like someone is burning you alive. Like you're being stabbed in the stomach over and over again. Yeah, sounds pretty painful to me.

And the screams went on. The whole time, I was just praying. Praying that Soojin will make it through this, that she'll be okay.

There was some noise coming from the hallway. A man was being rushed in on a stretcher. He was surrounded by what seemed like his wife and kids. He's been shot. His clothes were drenched in blood and his face was battered and bruised. Looks like he had been beaten up. What a 'cruel' world this is. I watched as they brought him into the emergency department, and started treatment on him.

Just seconds later, another ambulance pulled in front of the hospital. I saw a middle-aged women also laying down on a stretcher. She didn't look like she was in a critical condition. I mean, there was no blood or bruises or any sign of injury. Why was she in hospital then? My question was immediately answered, when I spotted two small dots on her ankle. It was a snake bite.

Okay... I think I prefer 'childbirth' more than those situations.

After about 15 minutes of waiting, Soojin's screams stopped. A sigh of relief escaped my mouth.

Soojin did it. She actually did it.

But soon after, came an eerie 'silence'. I got really worried again after realizing.

 I didn't hear a baby's cry.

 No.

I turned to my husband, tears welling up from the corner of my eyes. This wasn't a good sign.

"Yeobo, the b-baby... the baby didn't c-cry!" I said in between my sobs as my tears fell rapidly. Sangmin just wrapped his arms around me, in an attempt to calm me down.

"Shh, the doctors will do all that they can. It's okay, everything will be just fine..." He assured me. But there was still a tone of doubt and worry in his voice. He was just trying to be strong for the both of us. As a few more minutes went by, there was still no sound.

Several nurses were running in and out of the operating room. They looked really panicked as they called another doctor from a neighboring department. Too many things were happening at the same time. The doctor came rushing down from the hallway, making his way into the operating room. A nurse soon followed him with an oxygen machine.

 Oxygen machine?!

I stood up and blocked one of the nurses about to enter the room.

"Nurse, what's happening? Why is there an oxygen machine? Isn't the baby breathing?!"

"I'm sorry ma'am... I-I really need to go." She gave a quick bow and left to enter the room. I tried to hold her back.

"Nurse! Wai-..." But the door slammed right in my face.

 It can't be...

 This seriously wasn't happening!

I dropped into the seat behind me, and buried my face into my hands. No... no, no, NO! She needed to breathe. She needed to live, for Soojin!

I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me again. Sangmin couldn't help but get quite emotional as well.

If he was in Junghwa's position right now, he'd probably break down... hard.

Another few minutes passed, but there was still nothing. Oh no. This was taking too long!

"Still no pulse..." I heard one of the doctors say.

"C'mon, c'mon... you can do it! Please fight. Please fight for us..." I whispered aloud over and over and over again.

 Suddenly...

"Wahh! W-wahh!" *gasp* Did I just hear that? I looked at my husband in excitement and relief. He smiled back down at me. His eyes were swollen from the tears.

The baby was breathing! She was alive!

Only now do I really appreciate a baby's cry.

After a while, a doctor came out from the operating room. She removed her gloves and mask before turning to Sangmin and I.

"Soojin is doing just fine. She's being stitched up right now. Everything was successful, aside from the fact that the baby wasn't breathing on delivery. It was really worrying... But thankfully, we were able to revive her. She will be moved to the nursery for further observation. We absolutely don't want her heart to stop again..." The doctor said. I nodded as she entered the room again.

*phew* That was close. I can't even imagine how Soojin would've felt if she lost her baby. That would be just, devastating.

After about 30 minutes, we were allowed to enter the room.

Junghwa was beside Soojin's bed, holding her hand. "Kyung-ah!" She called out as soon as she saw me. I approached her and leaned down to hug her. Her arms wrapped tightly around my neck. I felt a certain 'wetness' on my shirt. She was crying.

"K-kyung... I-I thought... I thought I lost her... Sh-she wasn't b-breathing..." She whispered in my ear, trying to hold back her tears.

"Shh... stop crying, everything's okay. She's alive, and that's the only important thing right now." I assured her. I didn't care that my shirt was wet. Soojin needed this hug. She needed me.

After a few minutes, she pulled away. I wiped the tears from her face and smiled. She smiled back at me. Her smile telling me that she's okay.

Then, the doctor came in again.

"Hello again Mr. and Mrs. Kwon. You're baby seems to be fine. Her breathing is steady and her pulse is norma-..."

"Umm, doc?" Soojin cut her off. "Can I see her?" The doctor gave her an uneasy look.

"I'm sorry Mrs. Kwon, but I'm afraid not. She still needs to be observed..."

"Doc, please! I need to see my baby! I-I need to see if she's okay! She needs me! She needs her mummy!" Tears started to fall from her eyes again. This was really hard for her. Not being able to see or hold your baby, is just heartbreaking.

 "I'm really sorr-..."

"No... NO! I need to see my baby! Doc, let me see her! PLEASE!" She was trying to get out of her bed, but Junghwa held her back. It must really hurt for Junghwa to see Soojin like that. He wanted to see their baby too, but he knew this wasn't the right time.

"Yeobo, you've just given birth. It's not good for you be moving around too much. I am not going to take that risk..."

"Yeobo! Please, bring me to our baby!" Soojin was practically begging him right now. Junghwa didn't know how to reply to her.

The doctor then moved away a little, before taking out her phone. I couldn't quite hear what she was saying, but I assumed that it had something to do with Soojin's baby. I sort of picked up the words, "that's great" and "okay". Seems like good news to me...

 The doctor turned back around.

"Mrs Kwon, I'm glad to say... that yes, you can see your baby. She'll be brought back here in a few minutes." Soojin's eyes widened with excitement.

"Thankyou! Thankyou so much!" The doctor smiled at her, before exiting the room.

After a while, a nurse entered with a trolley. All our eyes landed on the beautiful baby laying there peacefully. Her little hands were curled up into mini fists, while she on her right thumb.

I can't even begin to describe the look on Soojin's face when she saw her. She was just overwhelmed with joy. The tears came rushing back again. The nurse picked up the baby and carefully placed her in Soojin's arms.

Junghwa was just as emotional as Soojin. He sat next to her on the bed, gently rubbing their baby's cheek with his thumb. I came up beside Soojin as well, taking in the sight of the beautiful baby in front of us.

Her eyes were just as amazing as Kikwang's. They reminded me of shiny glass, shimmering in the sunlight. As bright as genuine crystals. The nurse then asked for the baby's name. Hmm, now where have I seen this before? Haha...

Soojin was very quick to answer. "Yuri." She said with no hesitation. Looks like she's been thinking about this for a while. The nurse nodded and wrote down the name on her clipboard.

I turned to Soojin. "Prepared much..." I said sarcastically. They all laughed.

Then, a sudden whimper came from the pram. Kikwang was awake. Oops, sorry bubba...

I slowly carried him and sat beside Soojin again. We were both holding our babies in our arms. A dream that we both longed for ever since we were kids. It has finally come true. Oh dear, here come the tears again. Geez, I wonder how many countries would've been flooded at this rate?

I decided to lighten up the mood a bit. We definitely don't want the hospital to go under water (if you know what I mean).

"Hey guys, guess who I found sleeping on the floor a while ago?" I said while smirking at Sangmin.

 Junghwa's eyes widened in disbelief.

"No way! How'd that happen? Bro, don't tell me... Eunkyung kicked you out of bed, didn't she?" He laughed.

"Nah. Definitely wasn't my fault... Have you ever tried waking him up? Throw him into a lion's pit, and he won't even realize that he's already being eaten alive." I said. Junghwa laughed even harder. "Care to explain, yeobo?" I asked Sangmin.

"Well..." He started, with a slight blush on his cheeks.

"Yes?" I was really curious about how he ended up on the floor.

"Well, umm... I heard bubba cry. You were still sleeping, so I thought that I may as well put him to sleep myself." Wait. Did I just hear what I thought I heard? He actually woke up?! Not even...

"But I was still really sleepy, so I guess I collapsed on the ground instead of the bed. I missed..." He continued as he scratched the back if his head in embarrassment. Soojin laughed so hard, she almost forgot that she was holding Yuri.

"AHAHAHAHAHAHA! That's hilarious Sangmin!" Soojin still continued to laugh until she could no longer breathe. Not in a literal sense, of course. I would die if that happened.

"Yeobo?" I began... "You woke up to Kikwang's cry?" I asked in disbelief. He just smiled.

"Looks like there is something in this world, that is capable of waking the sloth!" Junghwa joked, and we all laughed again.

 Suddenly, something caught our attention.

The two babies... were... holding hands? We all looked at each other, clearly shocked at this unusual sight.

"Whoa kids, slow down there. Take it easy..." Sangmin said. We all snapped out of our little 'jaw dropping' moment, and laughed at his words.

Now this, was definitely a good sign.

* * * * *

Ahhhh! Please don't kill me! *runs away* Youz all probably want to murder me right now :/

I made the baby stop breathing on purpose. U know, to add a bit of drama into the story. I was gonna name this chapter, 'Crying in the Rain'. But I thought that would've been a bit too obvious. And plus, where's the rain? Ahahahahaha!

Working on the next chapter now. To be uploaded soon!

DON'T. STOP. READING.
