Week 4: The Game
Are you the one?“I can’t believe we only had one match,” Yerin exclaimed.
“We did worse than before,” Chanyeol agreed with a sigh.
“See, you should’ve picked me after all,” Hyun Mi told Woohyun.
“But I already picked you in my heart,” he replied, making Hye, who was still standing close shake her head.
“It was pretty obvious we wouldn’t be a match, yes. Him and I don’t work, he’d drive me crazy,” she commented.
“That’s alright, I like it better that way,” Hyun Mi replied, making Woohyun chuckle and put an arm around her.
“I can’t believe that was all we got,” Seulyi commented. “We definitely should do better next week, or we’re never gonna win.”
“Agreed. We need to think about this, since I really do want to win,” Dia said and Seulyi nodded in agreement.
“But it’s not like we can just decide easily who our match is,” Hoya interjected.
“But maybe… It shouldn’t be difficult… right?” JB commented. “I mean, otherwise no one would ever win.”
“I think we should treat this week as a black out for now. Like there were no matches at all. Basically, there’s a really high probability that your match today was not a perfect match. So if we assume that the matches were all wrong, we can continue and do better,” Baekhyun stated.
“I could have told you we weren’t a match,” Kimmi muttered, making the boy frown. What was it with all these girl disliking him so much?
“I think we should just switch and talk more with each other. So I agree with treating this as a black out… Though I wouldn’t have minded if Hoya was my match,” Jaelyn commented with a smile.
“So Hee-Jin’s not my match after all,” Chanyeol muttered sadly.
“Told you so,” Hoya commented, but Chanyeol chose to ignore him. He was too much lost in thought to argue, thinking about who else could be his match. On the other side of the room, Xiumin was smiling as he looked at the two, who were for once not fighting about the cute girl.
“So a black out. I’m not a match with Elea,” Mark commented, but he was smiling. After all, he had wanted to pick Kimmi for the match up, and that was still a possibility.
“But… then how should we work this out? I mean, there are so many possibilities,” Sungyeol stated.
“But the couples that have been to the truth booth only have eight possible partners left. So that’s something,” Seong Yeon said.
“But we really do need to get a match soon. I mean, we already know it’s not people’s first choice… So maybe we should go for our second choice? Although I really don’t want to be someone’s second choice,” Elea suggested.
“Being a second choice is kind of sad… But if they are your perfect match I’m sure it will work out,” Xiumin assured her.
“Still, having only one match in week three is rather rough… We should at least have some kind of clue for a perfect match by now,” Myungsoo said.
“We should. It’s not going well at all,” Kimmi agreed. “But at least we know these couples were really unlikely, apparently.”
“I guess so.”
“I’m going to bed. Worrying about it isn’t going to help and this week it’s a girl’s challenge, so I want to be rested,” Seong Yeon said and got up.
“Agreed. This thinking’s giving me a headache,” Sungyeol commented, and went after her.
“I wonder if they are a perfect match,” JB joked.
“Let’s hope they pick each other in the match up. Or even better, for a date,” Jaelyn commented. “It’s the only way we can find out.”
“Maybe we should all head to bed… It’s late already, and we can strategize better with a clear head,” Sunggyu suggested.
“If I can sleep with you, I’d go to bed,” Woohyun told Hyun Mi teasingly, making the girl blush.
“Not gonna happen if you take other girls on dates,” she then replied after a while, mock-pouting.
“No faith in the legend…” the boy muttered.
“So… Are you two, like, a real couple now?” Hee-Jin asked her cousin curiously.
“We are!” the both replied in perfect sync.
“But what if you aren’t a match?” Mark asked.
“So what? That wouldn’t change my feelings at all,” Woohyun replied with a confident smile.
“That’s what you say now…” the red haired boy commented.
---
Hye had gotten up earlier than usually and was already regretting it. She was more than a little tired, after they had all discussed the match up for so long last night. But then again, having only one match did warrant a long discussion. It was not going well. At least the weather was good. It was still early, but the sun was out and she was lying down in the grass, slowly dozing off to sleep. Suddenly something, or rather someone, blocked her sunlight, making her open her eyes again.
“You’re up early today,” Hoya commented, with a smile.
“And already regretting it,” Hye replied dryly.
“Aww, should I let you sleep then?”
“Nah, it’s fine. I’ll live. Did you go for a run again?”
“I did. It’s better when it’s not yet that hot,” he explained.
“So you get up early to run? Every day?”
“Unless I’m too tired,” he said with a laugh. “Although I’m tired today as well, with last night’s discussion continuing on for so long.”
“Join me? It’s pretty nice to just lay in the sun for a while,” Hye suggested and Hoya nodded, lying down in the grass next to her and soon the two of them had fallen asleep.
---
“I’m already getting tired of this game…” Elea commented.
“Eh? Why? Isn’t it fun?” Kimmi instantly reacted. The two of them were sitting in the living room together.
“I guess… But it seems like no one gets who they want anyway, so it just feels, rather lonely or something?”
“I guess I know what you mean… I quite like Mark, but he totally went for Dia first, and that feels rather weird…”
“See, that’s what I mean. I don’t even know who I like anymore, with everyone just talking and going after one another. In the end, they all find out they’re not a match and have to start all over again. But the next person will always remember they wanted another girl or boy first, right?”
“But in a way… Isn’t it also better? Since we need to find our perfect match… And maybe we find out that this person, who we usually wouldn’t have gone for, is waaay more fun than we had initially thought…” Kimmi argued.
“But I don’t want to be a second choice…”
“No one does… But I have a feeling everyone will be, in this game… Or at least almost everyone.”
“At least Hyun Mi and Woohyun are a couple now, so they have their first choice.”
“But, I wonder what will happen if it turns out they are not a perfect match…” Kimmi muttered.
“Yeah…”
“I’m not too worried about that,” Woohyun said as he entered the room, with a smile. “We’ll find out eventually, so it shouldn’t be a problem.”
---
After getting picked by Xiumin for the match up, Seulyi had decided to stay clear from the guys as much as possible. It was just noodles, it didn’t mean anything! Why did he have to pick me? If he hadn’t she could have been paired up with Myungsoo, who was after all, the only one she wanted to be matched with.
She was just turning a corner in the villa when she walked right into said boy.
“Oh, I’m sorry!” she apologised but Myungsoo just smiled.
“It’s okay, I wasn’t paying attention either.”
“Thinking about the match up?”
“Not really… Just thinking about what to do today, actually.”
“Hee-Jin told me there’s a nice forest in our backyard, wanna go check it out? Maybe you can take nice pictures there?” Seulyi suggested. She wouldn’t mind getting lost in some forest with him, not at all.
“Oh, that would be nice! I’ll go get my camera,” he replied with a smile, and before Seulyi could say another word, he had disappeared to his room, coming back only seconds later with his camera.
“Let’s go then!”
“Let’s! I hope we can find it, though, since apparently it was a hidden path or something.”
“As long as I can take some nice pictures, I don’t mind.”
They found the path without too much trouble and soon they were walking through the forest together. Myungsoo was busy taking pictures, while Seulyi was happy just watching him. He looked so happy, it made her smile as well. And if what Hee-Jin had said was true, they’d probably end up lost, and spend a lot of time alone together. This was gonna be good. After a long walk, they reached the same clearing Sungyeol and Hee-Jin had reached the week before, a perfect view visible in front of them.
“It’s so pretty!” Seulyi exclaimed and Myungsoo nodded in agreement.
“Yeah, it was a good suggestion to go here. Way better to take pictures here than in the villa.”
His response was quite disappointing. Why wasn’t he more happy to be here with her? But then again, she still had the way back. Besides, she got to spend most of the afternoon alone with him, so she couldn’t really complain. Even though she still wanted more.
After Myungsoo was done taking pictures, they started their way back. Like Hee-Jin had said, there suddenly seemed to be forks in the road Seulyi hadn’t noticed before, but to her amazement, Myungsoo seemed to know exactly which way to go. While the girl was getting quite tired after walking and climbing a mountain for most of the afternoon, he didn’t slow down, and she felt like she had to run after him. Of course, she wasn’t really running, just going a bit faster than she would have liked. He hadn’t sped up, he was walking at the same speed he always had, but it was becoming harder and harder for her to keep up. In her haste, she didn’t notice a root sticking out, and with a scream she fell forward. Myungsoo reacted instantly, turning and catching her before she fell down. Seulyi felt her cheeks turn red as she was now looking into his face, suddenly so close to her.
“Are you okay?” he asked, and when she shyly nodded, he let her go again, much to the girl’s disappointment.
“Thanks,” she muttered and they continued walking, Myungsoo this time making sure to slow down a bit so the girl could easily keep up.
---
“What in the world are you doing?” Yerin commented. She had just walked into the library, finding a huge stack of books lying on the floor, with Chanyeol seemingly re-arranging them.
“I was bored,” he replied with a goofy grin.
“That doesn’t explain anything. What were you thinking?”
“I was thinking if it was possible to build a fort with just books, so I decided to try it,” the boy replied seriously, and when the girl looked at him weirdly, started to laugh.
“No, no, I’m kidding. I bumped into the bookcase, and they fell. I was trying to figure out how they were ordered, so I could put them back.”
“You bumped into a bookcase and all books fell out!?”
“I know right? I’m so unlucky!” Chanyeol pouted, making Yerim laugh despite herself.
“They’re just ordered alphabetically. Want me to help you?”
“Yes please! It will take me ages otherwise!”
The two of them started putting the books back in the bookcase, when Chanyeol suddenly turned to Yerim:
“You’re always helping me, aren’t you? Thanks.”
“I can’t help it if you always need help,” she teased.
“Yah! I could’ve cooked by myself! I let you help because you wanted to!” he retorted.
“Riiiight,” Yerin replied with a laugh.
---
“Hyun Mi~ Since you won’t let me in your bed, I’ll let you in mine~” Woohyun commented. Right away Hyun Mi turned bright red.
“You…. You’ll what?” she stuttered.
“Let you in my bed,” he replied with a smirk, then added teasingly: ‘To watch a movie of course. What were you thinking of?”
His comment made the girl turn even redder.
“Nothing… Now let’s go watch that movie…”
Woohyun chuckled and grabbed her hand. They walked to his room together. Luckily for them, his roommates weren’t there at the moment, and they sat down on his bed, close together. He put an arm around the girl, after he had put on a movie on his laptop.
Only when she woke up the next morning, feeling an arm still holding her close, did she realise that they had fallen asleep while watching the movie. He wasn’t awake yet, and Hyun Mi was starting to freak out a little. Should she leave? She didn’t really want to wake Woohyun’s roommates… But then again, they had probably already seen her when they went to sleep. What would they have thought? Just thinking about the image they would have of her now made her blush in embarrassment.
---
“You and Hyun Mi are pretty cozy already,” JB teased Woohyun. The girl had left the room earlier, to change her clothes. JB had pretended to be asleep, since she seemed to be quite embarrassed, but now he was fully ready to tease Woohyun about it.
The boy only shrugged.
“Nothing happened. We fell asleep watching a movie.”
“Really?”
“Yeah, really.”
“You should watch out though. What if she isn’t your perfect match?” JB asked.
“It doesn’t matter, as long as I still play the game, right?”
“You think a girl would want to be matched with you, while you are dating someone else?”
“As long as we’re not confirmed, Hyun Mi can still be my match.”
“She can. And I really hope for the two of you she is…”
---
“You’re going swimming?” Hee-Jin asked Dia, who nodded.
“I like swimming, and my sunburn has finally healed enough so I don’t have to wear a t-shirt anymore.”
“Make sure to use a lot of sunscreen though!” Hee-Jin suggested.
“I will, thanks. Do you want to join me?”
“Yes! Of course! I love swimming!”
Dia smiled at the girls excitement.
“Alright, I’ll wait for you to get ready then!”
After a little while, Hee-Jin had also changed into her swimsuit, and the two girls headed to the pool. There, they found Mark and Kimmi, already swimming together. They seemed to get closer every day.
“Do you guys mind if we join you in the pool?” Dia asked hesitantly.
For a second Kimmi eyed Mark, but he gave little reaction to the redhead now. Kimmi smiled and nodded.
“Not at all.”
“Yay!” Hee-Jin cheered, jumping into the pool right away, followed by Dia.
---
“Why are you sitting here by yourself?” Sungyeol asked Seong Yeon, when he spotted her sitting in the shade of a tree. She seemed to enjoy doing that, as this wasn’t the first time he saw her like this.
“Because it’s relaxing. You’re gonna join me?”
“Only if I’m not a bother.”
“You’re not,” Seong Yeon replied with a smile. In fact, she quite enjoyed his company.
“The match up was a bad one this week, wasn’t it?” the boy commented.
“It was. It seems to be all we can talk about these days,” the girl laughed, and Sungyeol quickly joined in.
“I guess when you’re with strangers, living together all of a sudden, these games are the most obvious things to talk about.”
“Even though there are so many better things to ask about. Like, what do you do when you aren’t participating in tv shows?” Seong Yeon asked.
“I’m always participating in tv shows,” Sungyeol joked but quickly shook his head. “I work at a regular company right now… But one day I’ll be a CEO, or so I hope… It doesn’t really suit me though, right?”
“No, it does. I think you’d make a good CEO. Since you care about people and such,” Seong Yeon replied and Sungyeol smiled at her.
“I think this is the first time someone actually said I’d make a good CEO. Most people tell me to grow up first,” He laughed. Although he was laughing, those words had often hurt him quite a bit, getting him down and leaving him feeling less than confident. Having this girl believe in him meant a lot to him.
---
Mark had been spending more and more time with Kimmi and he had to admit, he had completely moved on from Dia. Sure, he’d been sad they weren’t a match at first, but now, he was starting to realise that he really didn’t need that girl. Turned out she had been right, it just meant someone else in the house would fit him better. And he was getting more and more sure that was gonna be Kimmi.
“You barely even talked with Dia today…” Kimmi commented.
“Yeah… I guess knowing she’s not my perfect match anyway made her less appealing or something. It was probably just a crush. I barely knew her anyway.”
“I guess so,” the girl replied simply, but a huge smile was forming on her face. She was liking the red haired boy more and more as well, so not having to compete with Dia would be good.
---
“I was wondering where you were.”
JB’s voice made Elea look up, his question startled her. Why would he be looking for her.
“Why?”
“You weren’t at the dinner table with the rest of us, so of course I’d wonder about that.”
Elea sighed, of course it was just that.
“Why are you sighing?” JB asked and sat down next to her.
“Because I’m getting kind of annoyed with the game, that’s all.”
“You sound like last week was horrible, but didn’t it actually give us a lot of information? Most matches were wrong, so we can move on. Did you like your match that much?”
“I barely even remember who it was… so no,” Elea laughed. “I guess you are right, I shouldn’t be so negative.”
“It’s not wrong to be negative… But isn’t it more fun to be positive?” JB stated with a smile.
---
It was dark and Hee-Jin knew she should have been sleeping, but instead she had gotten so hungry she had decided to go eat something. She walked carefully, not wanting to wake any of the others. So even when she bumped into someone just before entering the kitchen, she quickly covered with her hands to stop herself from screaming. The boy she had bumped into on the other hand quickly found the light switch and now, Hee-Jin and Xiumin could see they had both walked into each other.
“What are you doing here?”
“I was just hungry.”
They spoke the same words and the exact same time and laughed as they matched up both times.
“Let’s eat something then! I’m sure there are some snacks!” Hee-Jin commented.
“I sure hope so. Last week they were all gone,” Xiumin muttered.
“Someone ate everything? So mean!”
“I know right? I had to eat noodles in the early morning even though I just wanted a quick snack!”
“But noodles are good too. Not as snack though…”
“Exactly!”
Hee-Jin filled a bowl with some crisps and soon they were eating from the bowl together and talking, giggling softly when their hands reached in at the same time.

“After last week’s failed match up ceremony, we’re together again for another challenge,” Junmyeon commented. “The challenge is for the girls and it is an extremely simple one this week. We’ll test how well you know the boys. You’ll have to guess with how many girls they have slept by ranking them from least to most.”
“So basically rate them from good person to bad person?” Seulyi commented, making several girls nod in agreement, while some of the boys looked rather uncomfortable.
“If that’s how you want to see it, then yes. Wanna start?” Junmyeon replied. The girl nodded.
“So from least to most, right?” When the host nodded she continued:
“I’d say, Myungsoo, Sungyeol, Hoya, Mark, Sunggyu, Xiumin, Chanyeol, Woohyun, JB, Baekhyun.”
“Alright, then, Kimmi, wanna go next?”
“Sunggyu, Hoya, Sungyeol, Mark, Myungsoo, Xiumin, Baekhyun, JB, Chanyeol, Woohyun.”
“Xiumin, Baekhyun, Sunggyu, Mark, JB, Hoya, Myungsoo, Chanyeol, Sungyeol, Woohyun,” Elea went next, followed by Hyun Mi:
“Xiumin, Sunggyu, Woohyun, Baekhyun, Myungsoo, Sungyeol, Mark, Chanyeol, Hoya, JB.”
“Everyone has different opinions I see. It seems like this is not something you have discussed before,” Junmyeon commented with a smile.
“Is this really all there is to today’s challenge?” JB asked.
“Yes, why?”
“It seems a bit, boring, compared to the other ones,” Xiumin answered.
“Yeah, we just have to rank everyone, what’s with that?” Jaelyn agreed.
“We figured you guys could use an easy challenge. Jaelyn, you can go next.”
“Hoya, Sungyeol, Myungsoo, Mark, Sunggyu, Xiumin, Chanyeol, Woohyun, JB, Baekhyun,” the girl commented with a shrug.
One by one, the girls stated their lists and when each one was done, Junmyeon smiled.
“One of you got everything right, and she is the winner today. Congratulations Jaelyn. Who will you pick for your date?”
“I’m taking it I still can’t pick you?”
“You got that correct, you have to pick one of the other contestants. The other two winners of today are Seulyi and Yerin, so the two of you can start thinking about who to pick already.”
“Alright, I know who I’ll pick,” Jaelyn commented with a smirk. “I did say I’d steal everyone away and I have to admit, I’d be really curious to see who Seulyi would pick after I’ve picked Myungsoo.”
Junmyeon lifted an eyebrow. “You pick Myungsoo?”
“Yes,” Jaelyn replied with a grin. She was now looking at Seulyi expectantly. It would definitely be interesting to see who the girl would pick now Myungsoo was out of the running. Seulyi sighed. Why was the world so against her and Myungsoo being together? Jaelyn had done this on purpose… But now who could she pick?
“Baekhyun,” she then reluctantly commented. At least Baekhyun already knew she was only going for Myungsoo, so she wouldn’t have to explain that again.
“Alright. Yerin, who will you pick?”
“I’ll go with Chanyeol.”
“That means Jaelyn and Myungsoo, Seulyi and Baekhyun and Yerin and Chanyeol will be going on a romantic date, and I will see the rest of you tonight at the truth booth ceremony.”
