It takes a few weeks for things to get back to normal at Cop-a-Feel High. At first, it feels like the Lee Chanhee story will never die down. But it eventually does. Tiffany continues to screw with people—she even spins the Chanhee story to make it look like she rejected him. Sungyeol moves on and starts dating Tiffany’s friend Jessica.

As for me, I’m still dateless. I fill my time hanging out with Inyoung and working on articles for the paper.

I’m sitting in my bedroom one night, reading over my history notes, when I hear a knock on the door.

“Come in,” I mumble, not looking up.

“Hi,” a guy’s voice says.

No. It can’t be. Chanhee! I gasp, jumping up off the bed. “Oh my God! What are you doing here?” I ask, astonished.

“I came to see you.”

“You did?” I don’t know what to say to this. I can’t believe he’s here, standing right in front of me. I actually pinch myself to make sure it’s real.

He grins. “I got your letter.” He reaches into his jeans pocket and pulls it out. It’s all crumpled up, like he’s read it a million times. “This meant a lot to me,” he says softly. “I’ve been wanting to see you ever since I read it.”

I grab hold of my desk chair to steady myself. I’m so shocked to see him. “How did you get here?”

“My father wanted to come to St. Louis on business. I begged him to let me tag along.”

I swing the door to my bedroom open wide and invite him in. “It’s great to see you.”

“It’s great to see you, too.” We stand there looking at each other for a long moment.

“Heejoon—,” he begins.

“Chanhee--,” I say simultaneously.

We both laugh. “You first,” he says.

“I forgot what I was going to say,” I giggle.

“Me, too.” Chanhee leans forward and kisses me. It’s awesome and intense, and every bit as good as the kiss we had that day in the newsroom. Better, even.

“Who needs words?” I say, when we pull apart.

He leans forward and rests his forehead against mine. “I missed you,” he says, his breath tickling my face.

“I missed you, too.”

He moves back until he’s looking in my eyes. “I meant what I told you. I do like you. And I do want to go out with you. If you’re willing to give it a try.”

It feels great to hear him say that. But I’m worry. “How can it work?” I say. “Texas and St. Louis aren’t exactly close by. And long-distance relationships never work.”

“They don’t?” he asks. “Have you ever had one?”

“Uh, not exactly. But I hear things.”

Chanhee kisses me again, briefly this time. “I’ll be going to colleges in just over a year. Who knows? Maybe I could find a school nearby. Or you could go to school in Texas. Until then, I’m up for a long-distance relationship if you are.”

He is? I’m dizzy with excitement at the thought of being with him. “I want to. I’m just worry it will be so hard to make it work.”

“We can talk on the phone every day, visit each other on the weekends.”

I wrap my arms tightly around his waist. “Visit? But Texas is so far away.”

“Hey, I have a private place, remember?” Chanhee takes my hand in his.

“I want this,” I tell him, squeezing his hand in mine. “I want to be with you.”

“Then you will be.” He kisses me again, then pulls apart. “Just do one thing for me?”

“Sure, anything.” I lean against him, savouring the moment.

“Never, ever call me Chunji again.”

“Deal.” We shake on it.

“Oh, and one more thing.”

I nod.

“No more secrets. No more lying, hiding, keeping all of this undercover. Let’s be out in the open from now on. Okay?”

“My thoughts exactly,” I say, smiling.

In a way I suppose I’ll miss my life as a junior secret agent. It definitely had some exciting moments. But overall, I’m happy to get back to being plain, average, boring Kim Heejoon.

Although with Chanhee by my side, I can’t imagine things will ever be boring again.
