Edges and Symmetry
Chasing YouChasing You
Chapter One
Edges and Symmetry
"Thanks for coming by for me!" the brunette beams as she places the last book into one of the shelves of Seoul Academy's vast library. She walks toward the counter and pulls out a piece of paper, while also pulling her backpack closer to her to get her pen. "Now, all I have to do is get this permit signed, and this community service will finally be over," she informs her companion; when she finishes signing the paper, she gives it to the librarian who doesn't even look at her.
She ignores the rudeness given to her by the older lady and instead claps her hands repeatedly but soundlessly in cheer.
The raven haired guy beside her simply groans. He follows after the brunette, ready to scold her at any moment. "This is what you get for being so nosy," he hisses. He doesn't like what she did, and if only she told him about her plans, then he may have stopped her, yet she kept it a secret.
She gasps and glances at his side. "Well, you can't blame me. I got curious and looked through Soo-Soo's files, but I didn't plan on getting caught. I was careful! I didn't think I'd get caught in the action!"
"Of course, you wouldn't," he says in mockery as his eyes roll in sarcasm and annoyance.
The brunette pouts and speaks in her defense. "I just don't believe that I got that low in Math. I mean, I did study hard. You even helped me, and I just didn't want to waste your efforts and mine. Was it bad to find out the truth?"
The boy leans closer and eyes her. "Illegally? Yes."
She hits him on the shoulder and speaks grimly with her eyes narrowed. "Oh, shut up Mr. Legal! You wouldn't want me starting on the first time I saved your life!"
He scowls at her. "Yeah, save my life, my ."
"Just be grateful to me," she says with superiority.
The boy walks ahead of her, waves his hands and replies, "See you later."
The brunette panics and quickly stops him. "Hey! We're going home together!"
He turns around to face her, and with a stern look, he shakes his head. "Can't. I need to buy something." He doesn't intend to leave her hanging, but he needs to buy something, and he needs to buy it alone. Besides, it's not like they won't see each other again.
The brunette crosses her arms and raises an eyebrow at him. She can't believe what she just heard. Her friend never bought something for a certain someone, unless it was for her. "You? Buy something? I find that very impossible. You have maids for that!"
"Who says it's not personal?" he retorts with a grin.
She frowns because she immediately knew what he meant. "Oh, then let me come with you."
"I think you better not," he suggests, trying not to sound too rude.
The girl suddenly smiles, thinking that her friend had every right to do so. "Okay, then see you tomorrow!"
He waves at her again, mumbling to himself. "Yeah... see you."
...
Sehun places his bag on the free seat beside him and instantly groans. "She's here again," he says with much annoyance.
He groans as he places a hand on his forehead and lowers his head, sighing. His newly bought backpack was the same as hers. He's enduring the displeasure and waste of time the girl has given him over the past ten years, but he can't find the strength to shoo her away completely. After all, they are friends. They have their moments. However, they were friends, wonderful friends, and he didn't even know how they became friends.
He could see her walking closer with her bodacious smile.
Oh, how much he hates her.
And how much he hates himself for not hating her.
Honestly, he was just saying these things.
It was almost lunch time, and no one will dare miss this great break because of their growling stomachs. The cafeteria is almost crowded, and the free seats are being taken each time a minute passes. Chatter fills the room, and it is getting noisier, and more clamorous. Their conversations are mostly about how the food served in the cafeteria never improved and up until now is still bad. Others are talking about academics. Girls are talking about boys and boys are talking about girls. Most of them are just laughing, and the rest is just history.
Sehun stares at the girl with unhappiness. She has been following him since morning―no―since forever― since they met. Of all the years that he has pushed her away, he still doesn't get why she isn't stopping. He says mean things to her, ignores her regularly and refuses to consider her as a friend. Heck, even as a classmate, but she is still there. She is unstoppable. He gave up on that part because despite her pestering him every day, he finds happiness in the little things that she does.
"And in black... You two match. Matching chains, same color shirt, and now matching bags? That's something," a taunting voice beside him comments. Sehun glares at him. Even if he is his best guy friend, he won't show mercy.
"Shut up, Luhan," he says in the coldest manner that he can. "I don't need you to make it worse."
Luhan just laughs and continues to eat his food. He enjoys teasing his best friend to the greatest degree about Ah Reum because it can crack Sehun's 'cool' image. He is the best when it comes to pissing his best pal off, and anyone can count on him anytime; that is why he loved to make fun of Sehun. Luhan has the talent of easily getting into his skin, and at the end of the day, they are still good friends.
"Hey, I kinda admire her persistence," Yixing says, staring at the girl, his hand resting on his chin. "At least, her resolve has not been broken after all these years. Ten years? If you ask me, it's way too long! It's a decade!"
Sehun just shakes his head in response. "Not you too."
Yixing chuckles. "Sorry."
"Sehun!" A loud screeching sound fills the room, notably his ears.
The owner of this voice was a brunette haired girl with a charming smile. Students don't care about her loudness because it is always like this. It happens every single day as if on rewind. The girl looks ravishing and radiant. Her brunette hair reached her shoulders; her big hazel eyes are sparkling. Her positive mood seems to reach outside, making other students smile back at her.
"Here she comes," Luhan informs him, laughing in mockery. "Welcome your girlfriend, Sehun."
Sehun massages his temples, indicating that he is, even more, annoyed than earlier. "Shut up," he hisses at Luhan.
"Good morning, Sehun!" she finally says as she takes a seat beside him. "Oh my gosh! This is not happening! Our bags are a match!" she squeals.
Sehun gives her a sarcastic smile. "Aren't they always?"
She teasingly hits him on the shoulder. "Oh, Sehun, don't act as if you don't like that sweet little fact," she says, pinching his cheeks in the process. As soon as she pulls her hands away, Sehun rubs his face and glares at her.
"If only I can express to you how much I hate it. Damn," he mutters, still rubbing his face.
Ah Reum glances at the clock and turns her back to Sehun, who is currently muttering words under his breath. "See you later, cutie!" Ah Reum stands up and immediately races toward the door as if she is late for something.
Before he realizes it, he can no longer see her in the crowd. He returns to his normal position and thinks about how fast things happened. She just greets him that quickly and then she is gone. He notices that she is busy these past few days considering the short reunions they have shared over the past week. Not that he was looking forward to seeing her or anything like that. It was just surprising to see how busy Ah Reum is. Ah Reum is rarely busy when it came to things other than school and pestering the life out of him.
Sehun massages his cheeks; the heat and ache from her pinches are still present. "Damn that girl."
"No doubt. She's one heck of an admirer," Yixing comments.
Sehun smirks. "Well if you admire her so much then why don't you just grab her and take her away from me?"
"Touché," Yixing replied, smiling and then smirking after a few seconds pass. "If I didn't know better, then that sentence would indicate that you consider her yours."
Luhan places his arms on the table and eyes Sehun. "I don't see why you don't like her. You're childhood friends, right? You're one another's best friend."
"Whatever," he answers quickly. "Well, yes. Maybe."
Ah Reum will be angry if she hears that he just 'whatevered' their friendship. When in fact, they have been through a lot. Sehun mentally scolds and reminds himself that he should never do
