PERSONALITY :

    

▸ No matter where he goes, Hyunshin is cautious. He observes his surroundings and be wary of people at all times. He rarely let his guard down. This is due to the fact that he was trained to be like this since he was kid. Coming from a very wealthy family and the only heir to his mother's company really made Hyunshin to be always be on his toes. Hyunshin only relaxes a little when he's at home with his family.

▸ His grandmother often smack him for his endless sarcasms. She had no idea how or where he got it from. Hyunshin, tends to make witty remarks and spout sarcasms whenever he feels like it. At times, it came out even before he could stop himself. His wittiness is the result of his his quick thinking and his sarcasm is actually his defense mechanism against people. Because Hyunshin has trust issues. He knows who he is and what people want from him so sarcasms is his best defense.

▸ To live up to his family's legacy, Hyunshin worked twice as hard in learning. He wasn't born a genius. In fact, he couldn't even speak until he was 6. But because Hyunshin acknowledges his weaknesses and has a firey determination to take over the EUNHONG CORP, that he studied smarter, worked harder, learned even more and managed to surpass the others. 

▸ His appearances might be cold but he's actually a very warm hearted and caring person. Hyunshin doesn't open up to people easily and even when he does, he tells them nothing of importance that could be used against him. He cares for his mother and grandmother deeply and he cares for those who he calls friends (which aren't a lot). They're the only ones who get to see Hyunshin's warm side.

▸ Having to do all those mind challenging games since he was young and to read all of those mystery  books really influenced Hyunshin into making his own deductions. At first, it was all just for fun. But then, he couldn't stop himself. His first try was on his grandmother (who secretly ate his pudding).

    

▸ Hyunshin doesn't really mind being alone. He's not dependent on others nor does he wants others to depends on him. He does have his own group of friends, he was in a circle but it doesn't matter to him. They can be friends and Hyunshin would still mind his own business. He wouldn't stick his nose where he shouldn't. Hyunshin pick and choose his own battles. He doesn't want anyone to back him up, not even his closest friend. 

▸ Being a quiet person is good but being too quiet can be bad. Hyunshin doesn't tell people what's on his mind. He doesn't like it when people knows him to well, or get used to him. Being quiet is another and being discreet is also another one of his flaw. When Hyunshin knows something that could hurt others, he kept quiet about it even though he knows sometimes it's better to tell the others. This behavious of his contributes to another one of his characteristic, that is impulsive. When he knows something and keeps quiet about it, he tends to act on his own without a single care for the others. He can be called selfish but he's more on the impulsive side. Whether he realizes it or not, his actions sometimes can cause harm to himself and the others.

▸ He is also very blunt and straightforward. Hyunshin doesn't like to beat around the bush. He gets straight to the point regardless of the matter. But this behaviour of his depends on the person as well. If it's someone he is close with, Hyunshin will at least try to soften the blow but if it's someone who he doesn't care as much, he'll just get on with it without thinking of their feelings.

BACKGROUND : 

▸ Hyunshin is the only child of Kim Mi Kyung and Seo Ji Tae. His parents are wealthy on both sides. His father has his own business while his mother was just a housewife. They were a happy family. Thinking that he might one day take over the family business (for his father's company), his mother thought that it would be a good idea to send Hyunshin to stay with his grandmother and learn about business. He was only 10 years old when he started to properly learn about the inheritance world. 

▸ Even when he was away from his beloved parents, Hyunshin still remained in contact with them. They often visited him while he was there and vice versa. While staying with his grandmother, Hyunshin was taught to be observant, to read people, to always have a backup plan and be cautious of his surroundings. He has to constantly look over his shoulder. He didn't just learn about the business world, he learned how to see through people too. 

▸ His grandmother often spent time with him. They'll do a lot of puzzles, code breaking games, watch a lot of documentaries and play anything that could stimulate his senses and make him think a lot. This was one of her ways of teaching him. One of her grandmother's worker was an ex-soldier, he often reminded him to always look for an exit or a back door if he goes anywhere so that he could easily escape if anything happened. The old man told him to memorize his routes including the ones that seemed insignificant.

"Do you know that a spoon can help you?"
"How so?"
"It can be used as a mirror. Be observant. Examine your surrounding carefully, always be on guard. You're the one and only heir."
"Then teach me everything you know." 

 

▸ One night, when he was 16, Hyunshin fell asleep in the study only to wake up to the sound of whispers and sobs and some comforting words from the living room. Out of curiosity, he crept out quietly, hiding himself against a wall. When the voice spoke again, he was surprised to hear his mother. What was she doing at grandma's in the middle of the night? Not to mention she was crying as well.

▸ "How could he do this to me? How could Ji Tae do this me?" She repeated those words again and again and his grandmother just hugged her daughter and comforted her. Hyunshin still had no idea what was going on, he only knew that he was hurt to see his mother crying. When the tears stopped, Mi Kyung could only say these words. "I'll take over the company. I'll do it."

 

▸ The next day, Hyunshin pretended that he didn't know a thing and didn't ask his mother why her eyes were puffy or what was she doing there. He pretended not to notice anything different and made sure that she knows that she was still very much special to him. He spoilt her. A few days after the incident, he met up with his father. He prayed it wasn't true but his hopes shattered the moment his father showed up. Hyunshin didn't wait for his old man to sit down when he stood up to leave. Ji Tae chased after his son, confused as to why this teenager suddenly turned cold towards him.

  

"How could you do this to mom? She had been nothing but a loyal and a loving wife to you!"
"Did she tell you?"
"She doesn't have to. You don't have your wedding ring on and you don't smell like you usually do. This isn't a man's cologne, this is a woman's perfume! And it's certainly not mom's!" 
"How-"
"This is just a simple deduction, I can go on and on with what's on you right now but I rather not. Stay away from me and stay away from mom. She'll send you the divorce letter soon."
"Is this based from your so called deduction?"
"No, this is based on how well I know mom."

 

▸ His parents of course got divorced after that and Hyunshin changed his surname from Seo to Kim, to his mother's surname. He loved his father very much but he couldn't forgive what he had done to his mother. He got angrier even more when he found out that his father was married into a new family only a few months after the divorce. He'd expected it, but not so soon. In the end, he cut ties with his old man.

  

▸ Hyunshin stayed with his mother and grandmother and planned to take on the family business. He graduated high school with flying colours, ranking second place within his region in his final exam. He wanted to show the ladies of his life that he is capable of taking over the company. Most of all, he wants his mother to have a rest. She shouldn't be working day and night. She should be at home, resting and being treated like a queen. She shouldn't even lift a finger, she should be pampered. But he knows that he still has a lot to learn. So Hyunshin worked even harder in university.

 

▸ That's where he met Do Youngwoo. Youngwoo was the one who approached Hyunshin, simply because he saw Hyunshin holding a supernatural related book in his hand. Before Youngwoo could say anything, Hyunshin stopped him and proceeded with his deductions. Youngwoo, was flabbergasted because every single thing that Hyunshin said was spot on.

▸ Ever since then, Youngwoo invited himself to sit at Hyunshin's table during lunch. The two are from different departments. At first, Hyunshin was uncomfortable, he was really wary of Youngwoo but from time to time, he just let the guy be. Even though Hyunshin prefers to be alone, maybe having one really close friend wouldn't hurt. Plus, Youngwoo isn't that bad.

▸ One day, Hyunshin nearly choked on his lunch because Youngwoo just presented his craziest idea to him. He heard a lot of Youngwoo's crazy ideas and stories before but this had to be the craziest of them all.

"Come on! It'll be fun!"
"No."
"I'll give you a special member discount."
"No."
"Please! I promise you it will be really fun! You won't regret it!"
"Still a no."

▸ It wasn't until the fourth day of Youngwoo's pestering that Hyunshin grudgingly agreed to join him. This had to be the silliest thing he'd ever done in his life but he joined it anyway, simply because for the sake of joining. But little did he knows that he's going to enjoy the heck out of it.

▸ Ever since the divorce, HyunShin had been super careful with his mother's feelings. He wouldn't do anything that could hurt her.  Despite her busy schedule, Mi Kyung always put HyunShin as her priority. She'll run off from an important meeting with a client if her son is in trouble. She showed up to every important events in HyunShin's life. 

▸ Mi Kyung is the one inspired HyunShin to be better in life. He'd been with his mother during their darkest days and he'd seen how she picked herself up and turned into a successful business woman who owns multiple lands now. 

▸ Grandmother — Kim Hye Ja (77)
—  Widow / business woman / smart , lovable , funny

▸ When Kim Hye Ja first took in her grandson, she was surprised to see that her grandson was so much alike her late husband, Kim BeomSeok. She was originally a Kwon and then she got married to the love of her life. She sees so much potential in Hyunshin and there is so much of him that reminds her for her late husband. She sees that he's really smart but being just smart isn't enough if he's going to survive in this cruel world of business and money. So she trained him with puzzles to make him think so that his mind would be quicker and sharper. 

▸ Even though she Hye Ja was a ruthless business woman, she was still a grandmother. Hyunshin was spoilt endlessly by her but the boy never once acted like a brat towards her, which made her love him even more. She brought the boy to a soccer game before, thinking that's what all boys his age would like but later found out that he didn't enjoy the game at all. He may have some similarities to BeomSeok but he has a lot more in common with her too. They both enjoy solving puzzles and crack codes, they both enjoy sitting in the study just to read, they both enjoy the peace and silence.

▸ Kim Hye Ja's close friend / Hyunshin's mentor — Kim Sung Kyum (77)
— unmarried / trusted assistant, friend / observant , diciplined , punctual, patient.

▸ Kim Sung Kyum is like a grandfather HyunShin never had. The old man worked for his late grandfather before moving on to seve his grandmother. HyunShin can talk about anything with Sung Kyum, including asking for advices. Sung Kyum had been with the family long enough to understand their personalities and how to take care of them. He's the only male figure in Hyunshin's life and Hyunshin cherish him dearly.

▸ He was in a military and had fought to defend his country. Even after the war was over, it was difficult for Sung Kyum to move on. He was always on alert, unable to find peace. The war had taken a toll on his mental state. He wasn't in peace even though he knew that it was over. He was Kim BeomSeok's bodyguard before he was Kim Hyeja's bodyguard. Now he personally teaches Hyunshin's on how to defend himself and what to do if anything were to happen.

▸ Closest friend / best friend  — Do Youngwoo (22)
— student / extrovert, carefree, easily distracted & loyal

▸ Hyunshin is always soft when it comes to Do Youngwoo. Probably because Youngwoo is the only person who can stand him and doesn't force or want anything from him. When Youngwoo found out of Hyunshin's background, he didn't tell a single soul about it nor did he ask Hyunshin anything about it. That's one of the thing that Hyunshin likes being friends with Youngwoo. He stayed out of the private matter. 

▸ Youngwoo isn't clingy and understand that Hyunshin likes to be alone. So, instead of clinging on to his friend 24/7, Youngwoo gives the guy some space. They understand each other without even communicating. Hyunshin can tell  Youngwoo's emotions based on his observation while Youngwoo can tell Hyunshin's based on his hunch. Youngwoo is first few people to actually be frieds with Hyunshin.

"hmmm, werewolves are actually cool. if you look at their abilities, i'm actually quite envy of them, minus the transforming part, of course. i imagine that to be very painful and tiring. as for vampires... I'M OKAY WITH THEM AS LONG AS they don't sparkle. I TAKE THAT HOTEL OF TRANSYLVANIA'S VAMPIRE ANYTIME, ANYDAY THAN EDWARD CULLEN"

"american horror story isn't that bad. it's addictive alright but it's not that scary. oh! do you know that movie children of the corn? it's an old movie but it's really great. based on stephen king's novel. i like his book the shining and bazaar of bad dreams. great books!"
