Background : Mi Young was born and raised in the US in a family consisting of a father, mother, and older brother. Her father is a senior director at the UCLA medical center while her mother is a Vietnamese culture/language professor at UCI. Her older brother just graduated last year and is currently a resident surgeon at the UCI medical center. Because she comes from such an accomplished family, expectations were that she would also follow in her parents' footsteps, but she had never had interest in any of that. Initially, her parents were reluctant to let her pursue singing as a career, but she was able to convince them to let her at least try. Hence, she was able to come to Korea and become a trainee.

Personality : Lana is a mature girl who is independent and outspoken. She's not afraid to say what's on her mind, even if that means she'll make some enemies. She is firm in her beliefs, decisive in her actions, and brutally honest, to the point of being blunt, with her words. Lana is quiet by nature and does not speak often, but when she does, she almost always has something worthwhile to say. Around her family, she often acts like a child because she is the youngest, but around her friends, she is easygoing and playful. She is fiercely loyal to the people she loves and would do just about anything to protect them. When people first meet her, she looks intimidating, but when they get to know her, they realize she's a sweet, innocent, playful girl who laughs easily.
Even though she is young, Lana is wise beyond her years. She is objective and a great listener. Friends always come to her for advice and encouragement because they know she'll be honest with them. Why are you rivals: When Lana first came in as a trainee, she had accidentally bumped into Krystal and caused her to spill her drink. Lana had apologized but Krystal had said some unfriendly things, so of course, Lana, being who she is, did not stand for it. Lana retorted with anger and they both glared at each other until they were broken apart by their friends. From then on, Krystal keeps trying to make life difficult for Lana whenever she can. She always tries to outdo Lana, but Lana doesn't care about what she does and that just makes Krystal even more frustrated.

However, Suho finally manages to tell her after a long while of crushing, and finds that she feels the same way. At first, she keeps him at arm's length because she just thinks of him as a friend. But she slowly realizes that she has feelings for him, and although she tries not be get attached, she still ends up liking him much more than she should. He tries to help her and care for her, and she in turn does the same. Their actions show they care, but they wouldn't admit it.

Luckily, she was put into a group early and was accepted by her members with open arms, welcoming her and helping her. Her trainee days were mostly spent with the members of A-Rose.
