character traits ⋮ warm, generous, stubborn, mature

 breakdown ⋮

❀ Warm+generous - Although she doesn't have much, she always shares what she has with everyone, never asking for anything in return. She doesn't judge people and always smiles because she knows that everyone has their own life story, and one can never fully know another person's pains and heartaches, so no one should be judged for a past they can't change if they're trying their best to be great in the present. If you have a problem, she'll envelop you in a hug and tell you it's ok and offere her help in any way she can. She doesn't hesitate to sit all night and listen to you pour your heart out because you near someone to just listen and be there to tell you it's ok. She's got a big heart and always thinks of others before herself because that's just how she is.

❀ Stubborn - Once her mind is set on something, it's extremely difficult to change it. She always does her own thing, and nobody can force her to do anything she doesn't want to do. A lot of the times, she'll think she's right, so she tends to ignore other people's advice, unless you prove her wrong. But being stubborn also makes her independent because she becomes adamant on doing things on her own. She rarely, if ever, asks for others' help, always prefering to figure it out herself, because one, she doesn't want to bother other people with her problems, and two, she doesn't like feeling weak. She hates it when people pity her because of her situation. She only asks for someone's help when she really close to the person, and only when she really needs it.

❀ Mature - Ever since that fateful day, she's had to grow up rather quickly and take on certain responsibilities. She started to be more mature, always mindful of her responsibiliities and her actions. She knows what she has to do and doesn't hesitate to do it, and she always pulls through with her decisions. Once she decides, she always tries her hardest to accomplish whatever goal that is, and she never gives up, even when it gets difficult. She always acknowledges when she's wrong and apologizes when need be, and she's never one to shirk responsibilities or run off to let someone else deals with it. She faces life head on, no matter what is being thrown at her. She's dependable and her stability and willingness to help and pull through with her promises make her an ideal person people go to when they need help. She rarely complains, unless it's to Jian Nan, and she always tries to smile, even if she feels less than great, so people don't have to worry about her. Instead of sulking about all the hardships she's had to go through, she's chooses to be optimistic and never lets her past keep her down. She's responsible with her words as well as her actions, and that's what makes her mature.

history ⋮ Jian Ning was born in China but moved to the US with her family when she was 7. Her parents had wanted her and her brother to get better education and have more opportunities. They lived right in the middle of Chinatown, and that's where she stayed up until her move to Korea. Her life up until she was 17 was pretty average. They were by no means rich, but they weren't dirt poor either. However, a few months after she turned 17, her parents passed away in a car crash, leaving Jian Ning and her older brother to care for their baby brother who was two at the time. They sold the shop and the house, since they could no longer afford the rent, even with the savings their parents had left them, which didn't really sell for much as the housing market crashed. Her older brother had already finished his associate's degree at a public college and was planning on transfering to a university when that happened, so he had to drop that plan and start working. He had difficulty finding work in his field though, since the fall of the economy had put many people out of work, so he ended up working as a bartender in a club somewhere in downtown LA because it had good pay (not to mention the tips) and the hours allowed him to babysit when Jian Ning is in school. She graduated at the top of her class despite all that happened and had planned on doing online classes to work towards her own degree when Jian Nan had brought up the idea that he wanted to move to Korea to pursue music, seeing as KPOP had quickly become global in recent years. He thought he had a good chance of making it there. Needless to say, she wasn't very happy, and only god knows why she even agreed. That was two years ago.

lifestyle ⋮ Currently, Jian Ning and her brother live in a small apartment with cheap monthly rent. She's a third year now, taking online as well as night classes at a local university for nursing. During the day, she used to take care of her baby brother, but since he's starting kindergarden now, she is free to work during the day, as well as take day classes. Since her brother had to take care of the expenses, she is glad to be able to get a job and help him out a little, so they could breathe easier, and so that he would have time to work on his music. Jian Nan is still working in a night club, since that seems to pay the most (and tips are always great). Jian Nan is a bartender during the weekdays, but he also becomes a performer during the weekends since he also does music gigs for the club on Fridays and Saturdays. Jian Ning works from the time Jian Chi starts school in the morning until about 8 in the evening. She takes care of Jian Chi during the night while Jian Nan babysits him during the afternoon. She always tries to get home before 8 if she can, so she can chat with her brother and see him before he leaves since they rarely see each other because of the conficting schedules.

 ❀ family ⋮

❀ Lu Jian Nan ⋮ brother ⋮ 24 ⋮ alive ⋮ Bartender/Performer ⋮ Caring, reliable, funny, honest, gentle ⋮ These two are super close, because Jian Nan has always been a doting brother to her, but when their parents passed away, they became even closer because they only had each other to rely on. Their relationship was a bit strained when Jian Nan decided he wanted to move to Korea to pursue his dream. Jian Ning had accused him of being selfish for only thinking about his dream, moving them so far away just to go after something that isn't guaranteed. She changed her mind though, after thinking about how hard it was for him to have to take care of all of them all this time. She also wants to pursue her dreams, and that was her plan before the suggestion, so who was she to accuse him of being selfish when she was about to do the same thing? She agreed because she knew how much it meant to him, and as time went by, she slowly accepted that she was going to live here. After all, blood relations aren't something we can cut out of our lives so easily. She has since become much more supportive of him and his choice. 4

❀ Lu Jian Chi ⋮ brother ⋮ 5 ⋮ alive ⋮ Kindergardener ⋮ Cute, easygoing, loves to smile, loves to eat, playful ⋮ Jian Ning dotes on her little brother a lot, but she also disciplines him quite a lot. She has taken over the position as mom since Jian Chi never really knew their parents. His smile is her joy, and she would do all that she can to protect him and give him the best, just as Jian Nan would do for her and Jian Chi. Whenever she's home, he always follows her around like a tail, because he misses her. He can't go a day without seeing her. If she's cooking, he would try to help bring things to her. If she's cleaning, he would go clean up his toys. If she's studying, he would be quieter and play by himself. Jian Chi loves to just cuddle into her and being in her arms whenever she's free, always climbing onto her lap and making her sing to him and play with him. He may only be 5, but already, he knows how to make her smile. 5

 friends ⋮

❀ Jung Yonghwa ⋮ 25 ⋮ alive ⋮ Bartender/Performer ⋮ Funny, clever, caring, friendly, cheerful ⋮ Yonghwa and Jian Ning are next door neighbors, and he is also a bandmate of Jian Nan. He has helped her and her brother a lot, introducing him to the bartending/music gig, and always helping with whatever he can. She and Yonghwa became friends quickly due to his friendly, cheerful nature, and he always tries to make her laugh with his jokes. They're not best friends or anything, but they're close enough that she can talk to and hang out with from time to time. 3

❀ Jung Daehyun  20 ⋮ alive ⋮ Student/Waiter ⋮ Reliable, funny, gentle, talkative, talented ⋮ Daehyun is Yonghwa's younger brother, who is also her next door neighbor. It seems as though friendliness runs in the family as she also became quick friends with Daehyun due to his talkative nature. He loves to joke around and laughing, and more often than not, he makes her laugh too because of his antics. He's always acting goofy around her, and he is especially close to Jian Chi, as he really dotes on the young boy as well. She often asks him to babysit Jian Chi when she or her brother are both busy, so they are really close. 3/4

 love interest ⋮ Kris/Wufan

relationship ⋮ When they first saw each other, they were immediately infatuated with the other. Jian Ning liked Kris ever since she first saw him. Usually, she wouldn't be so superficial as to fall for a guy, even if he's smoking hot, but there was just something about Kris that drew her in. She liked that beneath the cool exterior, there was a normal, down to earth, dorky guy. She never said anything though and just passed it off as an infatuation that will eventually wear off. Of course it didn't, and she found herself falling for him more, after getting to know him better. He was quite warm despite his looks. But even after she realized she may like him more than she thought, Jian Ning never let it show because she didn't think he could accept her. Previous experience taught her that even if Jian Chi was only her baby brother, it wouldn't be easy for her partner to accept that she was practically a mom, in all senses of the word that mattered, and that relationships were out of her limit. Perhaps she would be able to date once he was older, but for now, he was her main priority and that was simply that.

As for Kris, well, he definitely felt something when he first saw her. Whether that's just simple infatuation or love at first sight or something more, he didn't know, but he knew he definitely wanted to get to know her more. He quickly sees how mature and responsible she is, and he appreciates those qualities in her, having to deal with a bunch of not quite so mature boys (save for one or two). Like everyone else, he tries to get to know about her more, but when questions that are a bit personal come up, she always seems to shy away. Not wanting to pressure her, he just acts as a friend, but he's more and more intriqued by her because she looks so young, but her eyes betray such depth whenever he sees them that he can't help but wonder about her. They talk and joke like any other friends, and slowly but surely, he starts to like her more and more.

After getting to know of Jian Ning's situation, Kris falls for her even more, moved by how loving and warm she is and awed by her strength and courage, as taking on this kind of daunting responsibility is no easy matter, especially for someone so young. He tries to be more understanding of her when she asks to leave early or help her more during work, just overall being more thoughtful to her. He finds himself wanting to protect her from the world, seeing as she had to endure so much and realizes that he's in love with her. He tries to show her through his actions, but Jian Ning takes it the wrong way though and thinks that he's pitying her. She doesn't realize that he likes her because that possibility never even crossed her mind, because to her, no one would be so understanding as to accept that part of her life. He finally has to tell her straight out that he likes her, after getting frustrated because she's so dense as to not realize his feelings. He sort of explodes with his confession and then pulls her in for a kiss, not leaving her time to react. She just feels like the happiest person in the world afterwards because there's finally someone she can lean on.

comments? questions? ⋮ I couldn't decide between red roses or lilies of the valley, so I put a picture with both. I've always loved roses for the symbolism, and red roses especially since they remind me of my grandfather, but lilies of the valley are just so intriguing to me because they don't look like they would be but they're poisonous. I think they're a great analogy of people and life, in that they're not what you expect. Moving on, omg I am so sorry if the relationship sounds all cliche and stuff but I totally ran out of brain juice and into writer's block. I don't even know anymore...

 scene requests ⋮

❀ Kris and the boys finding out about Jian Chi one day when one of them (Jongin or Sehun) accidently sees Jian Ning taking Jian Chi out to play one day. They start to wonder who that little boy is because Jian Ning was being like a mother to Jian Chi, calling him baby and sweetie and taking care of him like a mother would. Kris starts thinking all sorts of crazy things, like if Jian Ning is actually married or something or if she's lying about her age and just letting his imagination run wild for a bit and makes a complete idiot of himself being all awkward because he's curious but doesn't know how to ask her. Basically anything similar with Kris being all awkward and funny is cool.

❀ Kris getting jealous when Daehyun comes by the shop with Jian Chi to pick Jian Ning up after work. Love triangles are very welcomed because Kris being jealous and awkward is quite funny :)

❀ Any scene when Jian Ning and one of the other characters just sort of have a heart-to-heart talk and becoming close friends. I love fluffy friendships

❀ After Kris and Jian Ning get their feelings sorted out and start dating, Kris officially meets Jian Chi. Kris is painfully awkward with kids, so being around Jian Chi makes him nervous because he wants the child to like him, but he just doesn't know what to do. It would be so cute if there was some Kris and Jian Chi bonding time. EXO and kids are just adorable in general I think :)
