Opinions on AFF vs Live Journal

Sooooo recently,

I've come across a few tumblrs and blogs,

that bash on some of the fics on AFF

And it's actually hilarius. No doubt.

(Because what they bash on

are the ones  where the grammar is atrocious,

 with spelling errors,

and just mistakes that could

easily be avoided.

And some that are quite....

...speechless)

And I totally relate. I actually didn't read any fanfics on AFF when I made an account here; I just made it so I could share my writing and kind of started looking around after (I literally googled "big bang fanfic" to find a site that has kpop fan fiction on it and AFF was the first one that came up!)

But uhm... I mean, I already know I'm not the greatest writer out there, far from it, so I'm in no position to judge others, but sometimes.... sometimes...  I kind of feel hopeless and isolated, looking at the stories in the BAP tags. And also when I'm surfing through the most viewed/ most subscribed/ most famous author pages. I usually go to the subscription page of a reader I know has good taste to find fics I want to read.

Sorry, went on a tangent. What I wanted to ask was that I came across something interesting on asianfanfic about LIVE JOURNAL being a much better site to get quality fan fics. (I tried going on there, but it always takes me a while to get used to navigating through a certain site and I didn't want to take the time to do it so I came out unfruitfully). I also read about some people that transferred over to LIVE JOURNAL from AFF, since AFF had so many... unripe stories. Soooo.... Is LIVEJOURNAL really better???? Anybody want to share their opinions?

Maybe the whole demographic that AFF harbours is totally different from LIVE JOURNAL, since I think LIVE JOURNAL has specific communities with different fandoms/types/genres/fanfics? So it's a really huge site. But AFF is more for... teenagers? Lots of Super Junior, SNSD, ShiNEE (well, hello SM town~). Even if you just look at the featured stories, it becomes really obvious, right?

Ah, I don't know. It's just that some people really seem to bash on AFF as a site on the whole, but I've seen some incredible authors on here as well so... It's hard to find, but it's definitley there, right?

Wow, okay I was just passing by this and I happen to read the comment below me. Let me tell you the ignorance in it.
Livejournal is, without a doubt, a bit more high class than AFF, and it shows in the user's writing. But like most of everything out in the world, there are flaws. Livejournal is simply a place where users write, and the same can be said for here. There are some fics on LJ that aren't as pleasing to the aesthetics, but there are also fics on here that are simply paragons. What you feel about the site should not be a mirror of what others think, but a individual thought from your experiences. The user below gave an extremely bias example to you, and you know darn well not all AFFers write like that. You wrote intellectually in this blog post. The people responding responded just as educated, so why should the writing be any different. Her example for Livejournal--which she obviously wrote herself--was riddled with mistakes.
Do not let the judgment of others tamper with how you feel about things. Just let it be. Cross post if you want to, no one will judge. I see a lot of users following the "livejournal is better" trend, and let me tell you, changing a site will not change your quality of writing. It's all up to the effort you put in. Keep writing and don't feel down, I'm sure your readers will support you! Everyone starts off slow ^^!

lets all admit, Live Journal is 1,000,000 times better than Asian fanfiction.
And yes, author nim, aff has alot of teenagers though, LJ doesn't. what's better, teenagers in writing or mature older people in writing. Obviously, mature people which are older.

Lets get an example on which is better: "the alarm clock"
AFF: *RINGGG* the noise of the shocking alarm clock woke me up! Must go to school!
LJ: A sunlight peek from the window opened my dull eyes from my sleep, but what has woken from my long snooze? The sound of bells going "tick tick tick", it must be my alarm clock.

Which sounds better? Obviously, LJ. Shall we do another example? Okay: "playing the piano"
AFF: I'm playing the piano, coloured white and black. It sounds really graceful.
LJ: my scorched hands are week as they aren't supposed to be. Sitting in front of these ivory keys, I have no more pain as the music will start playing as my fingers go twirling.

AFF writing is really bad even I couldn't write it. As everyone know, LJ is better!

Hello~~ :)

....LJ is starting to sound like a private school or ivy league college LOL

And disappointed once again that there are no OC's... >< sigh

LOL I don't know you but I found this blog post so yeah.

Livejournal, in my experience, is much more satisfying when you're trying to find something to read that is both well-written and gramatically correct. It's very strict and professional - people are looked down upon when they post AFF-style fics. What they want is a good story, so there's none of the character charts, backgrounds, posters, forewords, etc, it's just straight fic. It's excellent for improving your writing and for meeting people of the same intellectual level.

However, like someone already mentioned, it's almost entirely dominated by group-centric pairings - aka no OCs. There are a few, but they are rare and usually tend not to have a big following.

It's hard to make it on LJ unless you're really good. People won't comment on fics that they don't like - and their standards are very high.

LJ is mostly and ?? Nuuuuuuuu D: that's like, the only two that I don't really read (yet.... just might grow on me).
what a shame, I was hoping to find more new fics to read~ I guess AFF is still the place for me since I absolutely adore girl OC fics haha
thank you so much for the link! and the author recommendation! I think I'll check it out when I feel like venturing the worlds of again xD

Livejournal is technically the place to hang for really really good fanfiction, I stuck to it for many years reading and writing until twitter took over my life. the thing is with LJ is everything sounds very polished, imaginative and professional while one would be hard pressed to find something of that calibre on AFF. I only read exclusively BAP fics in both places so the difference is really clear to me.

However, my gripe with LJ fics are that they are ALMOST ALWAYS nothing but lusty , and EVERYTHING IS :(((( girl OC fics are looked down upon and that rly tbqh, LJ is an elitist place. However there's this author who writes fantastic AU oneshots! Kiwi-ism is worth checking out ^~^
