PERSONALITY.
intelligent, passionate, cheerful, idealistic
 sensitive, stubborn, reserved, dislikes controntation

ravenclaw, infp, type 9w1, taurus

to start it all, minhee is cheerful: though introverted and needing her space after hanging out with people or being in such busy places all day long she enjoys interacting with others and always is known to look on the brighter side of things. 'it could be worse' has been her life motto since childhood and coicidentally is the thing that she relies on during a dark period in college more than ever. she craves intimate relationship and is a great listener. sometimes she spends so much time on others emotions that she disregards her own feelings. she just wants the people she loves to be happy and even if some need confrontation to realize they are in the wrong she is the last person to do it: fearful of the enraged anger and resentment that leads to broken bonds it may cause. she even will apologize first, even when she is not at fault, so they can move on from the negative experience. yet that doesn't mean she doesn't have her own stubborn streak. when she is very comfortable with someone (and that is only a certain few) and assured that even when they fight they can work things out and still be close, she will debate over any kind of topic if she is passionate enough about it. for example she hates ya novels because they have this stigma of reusing the same concepts that involve unhealthy relationships and terrible character growth. but in the end that is mostly fun in games and learning about other people. calling people out that she loves in the open is terrifying: because sometimes she feels that she is in no place to judge them for their faults.

she also has found that over time that she can be very sensitive. she likes being with people and wants to be approved by others so small comments that can be snide and passive aggressive can hurt her feelings deeply, even if she rarely shows it because she is not good about expressing her emotions to others. she keeps everything to herself but has found writing about it in a journal has helped her express her true, raw emotions - though she would be mortified if anyone read it. for her trust has to be earned and when it is severly broken it takes her a longer time to open up to people because she is afraid of the same outcome. reading so much and learning has taught her to be very perceptive of others, noticing when they are upset or unsettled but maybe not wanting to comment on it. she wouldn't be a ravenclaw without her logical, creative, outside the box mindset. while she can be torn about her own emotions she is known to give great advice to others and craft a logical exit when she sees them in the mix of their emotions. she always loves asking questions and researching the most random of trivia that fascinates her.

BACKGROUND.
phase I: a happy childhood, growing heart of gold
phase II: the dark times, the desparate escape
phase III: the rebuilding process, a new job

I minhee was born as the youngest daughter to two active but loving parents, both highly respected professors of english at one of the most prestigious college in korea: yonsei university. lovers of literature, the arts and anything involving the english language on paper they raised their daughter in a world of books, varying shades of autumn colors, and respect for those who thought outside the box. her mother read her a variety of old english books at bedtime while her father would often test her on a variety of popular quotes said by english scholars. she was raised to dote on books and the creative aspects that by the time she was ten minhee knew so much about the world of english literature, shakespeare and more she would often tell her friends excitedly about it as well as actively quoteing the content in english class. though she was e and there for her passionate nature of the arts, and literature altogether, she would always be encouraged by those she loved to do what she desired and not to pay any mind to those who tried to bring her down for it. she did well in school, always working hard and managing great scores. even though she wasn't the smartest, she genuinely enjoyed learning. it kept her busy and she found a great deal of her classes interesting unlike many of her classmates. (who often went to her for notes or questions)

despite many other people's objections, and to the delight of her parents, minhee knew she wanted to major in literature in university. she loved books and the concept of writing. she had aspirations to be an author as much of her free time was spent writing poems and short stories in beautiful crafted libraries or in the shelter of her room up in the attic. she got accepted into seoul national university to the delight of her family with a major in literature and it the future never looked brighter.

II
however after all the brightness and endearing nature of her life, the dark days soon followed. minhee set of her first year of university, majoring in literature in the fall of '18 ready for a new world and full of life with her beaming smile. she made friends in her english lecture class that first week, who invited her to an gathering on friday at a korean barbecue downtown. it was there she met a tall, dark-haired male taesik: a charmer behind his classy black clothes and a colleague of one of her new friends. It was an evident love at first sight: for her at least. he complimented her 'beautiful' (as he put it) choice of words, intentionally tried every way he could to make her smile and gave her all the juicy meat even if it meant taking it out of someone else's hands. he made her blush, his touch sent sparks up her arm and by the end of the night he got her number and somehow, her class schedule. those next few weeks he wait for her outside her english lecture and some found it odd but she pushed their concerns out of the back of her mind. people always have judged her so why listen now? the lovestory developed quickly and the two were dating by the end of the month: and life was honestly perfect. he made her smile, bought her gifts and created butterflies in her stomach all the time. When she called her friends and family back home she couldn't stop gushing about him. he was so wonderful, so perfect, almost too perfect - something she wished she noticed looking back. for those first six months it was great: he was loyal and she seriously started thinking maybe, just maybe they would stay together for three years and after college they could get married. but after february '19 everything decided to crumble downhill.

maybe it was because all the soju bottles she noticed stashed in the corner of his kitchen whenever she came over or how his breath reeked of alcohol constantly. maybe it was because he got fired from his internship that month before. or maybe he had this ugly, blistering side of him he always masked when he was around her because he was that good at charming, or manipulating, people. But however when it started she knew deep down that it was now his true nature. He started to yell at her constantly when he got annoyed. he made her disgard her beloved plaited skirts because he thought they were too shorts even when she wore them with tights. he grew controlling and demanded her time constantly, and if she tried to fight back he would threaten to dump her. he grabbed her long dark hair (it was around her waist at the time) and yank it harshly whenever she try to call him out. hitting was common as well: she tried to cover up the bruises with long sleeves and turtlenecks so her friends wouldn't grow suspicious. she thought it was fine overtime too because he would buy big arrays of flowers, and even shed tears, to apologize. she kept making excuses to her parents that he was too busy to come visit when she was just terrified of what they would think. by the end of the summer and the start of the her 2nd year he had convinced her to move in with him and by winter drop out of school completely. it was crazy what he could make her do with just a simple look in his eye or raise of his voice. she stopped visiting her family, she rarely texted her friends and she began to wear hoodies and sweats because taesik would mock her in anything else she wore. minhee knew the road she was going down was spiraling out of control: she didn't even like to read anymore or learn new things. She felt like an object her boyfriend used. he knew how to bend all her strings because he knew so much about her: and she knew nothing about him shockingly. she didn't know who to confide to that could help her without freaking out. but then it hit her: and she came up with an idea.

it was the new year's day of '20 and taesik decided to go out to drink like she hoped. minhee took her phone and called the one person she knew never let her in down almost her whole life. her cousin hyejin answered the phone calmly yet she was in shock because her and minhee haven't spoken in so long since she had distanced herself from her family. but she did not hesitate when minhee explained the basic outline of her current situation and agreed to have minhee stay at her place. hyejin lived in hongsan, a small town on an island that would for sure go undetected and if taesik ever tried to come back she would surely be in a safe space - where everyone pretty much knew each other. so after planning an escape, and packing her bag of necessities (
since she didn't take much when she moved out honestly), minhee left on the day of her 20th birthday when taesik went out, who forgot of course about the special event. she only told one close friend where she was going because she didn't want word of her destination to spread and she wasn't sure who else she could trust among her old colleagues and friends. the trip was a little taxing: she had to take a ferry boat ot the island after a long bus ride. but when hyejin picked her up on the edge of the small town as they planned, minhee felt one thing she hasn't felt in almost two years: freedom. although she knew the process was only the beginning, she was glad she had the courage to escape and hoped things would work out so she would never have to see him again.

III ─ hongsan may have been the final destination but the process was still far from over. that next day hyejin and minhee had a long conversation about what had happened in detail. even with all those tears from both sides, and the small fear she might have to go back, minhee finally felt herself again after so long. before they even settled with job hunting, hyejin and minhee spent the rest of april relaxing: checking out libraries, bookstores, resturants. minhee changed her cell phone number as a precaution and got her first tattoo within the first week of living of hongsan: it was something she wanted to do for so long even before meeting taesik but she was too afraid of the idea that it would end up looking awful and it would be engraved on her body the rest of her life. it was a tad daring on her end but minhee was happy because she made a choice for herself after being stuck to someone else's unrealistic standards for so long. she also adopted a cat, something hyejin actually encouraged her to do as her older cousin read online about how pets can help with mental health. she started to read books again and wear her plaid skirts and long brown sweaters. by the time early may of '20 she felt more energized and like herself. now she was more ready to find a job. and lucky for her 'thehwangs was hiring.

LIFSTYLE.
how are they living now

OCCUPATION. a college drop out from her 2nd year at university. currently works at the 'thehwangs as one of the housekeepers.
CURRENT LIFE. when minhee is not working she can be found at hongsan's little coffee shop (not touching the coffee of course) or browsing the bookstore or library. she has recently taken an interest in photography so seunggyu has been giving her lessons. she also is taking an online course on the german language currently.
STRUGGLES. rebuilding her life and herself back to a happier state.
dating someone abusive wore her out and she wants to be herself again - only a better, more aware, stronger version.

TRIVIA.

♥ contrast to her blossoming dark academia aesthetic she actually hates coffee. she prefers to drink tea but she will somtimes order coffee because 'it looks pretty on the table with all my stuff'
♥ she has a sweet tooth; absolutely loves chocolate and finds it to be a great necessity to calm her nerves, or soothe her antsy nature
─ much to everyone's surprise.
♥ recently adopted a pet and minhee's black cat 'Socrates' is easily one of her best friends in such a short amount of time. (
he's on the left hehe)
♥ her parents still have no idea what is going on, except that she is staying at hyejin's over the summer. they are very happy minhee is talking to them more often after feeling distant for more than a year and plans to never miss a holiday with them again.
♥ wants to travel to england, scotland, germany, ireland and the states.
♥ favorite genre is romcom/historical and always reads the books before the movies.
♥ kind of a neat freak: found that cleaning helps her distract herself and has read it makes your brain chemistry flow at an easier pace.
♥ guilty pleasure is stalking instagram photos of her aesthetic old colleagues or current friends.
♥ allergic to apples and seaweed, favorite fruits are pears. that being said she doesn't really like any vegetables except broccoli.
♥ has a tendency to eat kimchi whenever she is having a movie night by herself.
♥ only cries when she knows she is alone at the house, work, or outside.
♥ was scared of dogs for nearly ten years after she was bitten at eight by her neighbor's massive rottweiler. even if she sees that similar dog today minhee won't freak out but she will feel nervous on instinct.
despite how terrible he turned out to be, taesik was her first love. she never dated anyone else before then and she thinks that is why the relationship has affected her so much emotionally besides the abuse.
♥ tends to wring her hands whenever an uncomfortable, or personal, topic is approached in one of her convo or directed at her as a question.
♥ terrified of the ocean. wants to swim in it but is too afraid so she always sits on the beach and admires it from afar.
♥ her favorite color is bright yellow but she never wears it unless it is birthday.
♥ prefers classy pants over short skirts: however she will cave into her beloved plaid skirts if she wears tights or long socks.
♥ never believed in santa claus. her parents were too logical to endulge herself in that: needless to say she did make a couple of kids cry in third grade because of it.
didn't read fairytales until she was ten years old.
♥ loves red velvet and secretly has all their albums stashed in an old fashioned briefcase in her room.
♥ favorite tv shows are the crown, whats wrong with secretary kim, the tudors and its okay not to be okay.

INTERVIEW.

answer these as your character. you can write in third or first pov, whatever is most comfortable.

can you introduce yourself?
—
minhee could not stand interviews. they made her nervous, anxious and they seem to drag on for too long. but she needed this job so if an interview stands in the way.. so be it. she fixed her posture, giving the most genuine beaming smile she could muster and finally, starting her introduction. "my name is seo minhee. i was born in incheon, south korea but i came here from seoul and.. i am twenty years old."

if you're new to the island, what brought you to hongsan? if you're a resident, how has it been like living here?
— "my cousin, hyejin, lives here and im spending the summer here for now. im new to the island because i unfortunately haven't visited her since she moved here but i liked the peaceful, mostly quiet yet bustling nature of this smaller place. i grew up in the city so it is nice to have a different setting after being in the same one for so long."

what is one thing you wish you could run away from in life?
ah here it was. the first personal question of many (probably). but minhee had practiced for this so she was ready. she made sure to swallow and speak clearly without a falter. "i think it would have to be confrontation altogether. no matter how hard i try, i sometimes can't seem to face people if we got into arguement because that means bringing up the situation again when we could simply apologize and move on. often i wish confrontation didn't exist altogether because i have grown to fear it for most of my life."

what do you think about when you hear the word, "family"?
— "people you can depend and trust; those who love you despite your faults and make an effort to carve a spot into your lives even if you initially push them away."

everyone has their bad days and personal struggles. when you run into a problem, how do you handle it?
— "often to avoid more chaos and drama i will often apologize first so we can move on. i do not like dwelling on things for too long because there was a time in my life where things were dragged on for too long. but i know that isn't always the best so im - trying - to work on being firm and unaplogetic. it is hard though."

what's something you hope to gain as you continue to live your life here in hongsan?
— "a stronger version of myself: a better person and a healthier mindset. i came to this island a mess and in need of repairement to be honest."
hearing her say those words brought up the tender wounds her bitter relationship as minhee inhaled sharply. but after a few moments she was able to continue with a clear tone. "so i want to work on myself and find my worth, my full potential, that i felt i lost over the past few years. so if i decide to leave i can go back to the city being aware of the mistakes i made and the toxicity that may be around me at times so that i can respond the right way: the healthy way."

OCCUPATION. works at the hongsan's local music store that he inherited from his father.

PERSONALITY.

patient, creative, loyal, independant, defensive, resentful, quiet, witty, begrudging, perfectionist
hufflepuff, type 2w1, virgo

a buisness and music major with a talent for songwriting, yoojin is very capable of thinking outside the box. he is very dedicated to making music just as much playing it. because such form of inspiration and art takes time he has known to be very patient from the get go. yet that doesn't mean he is not a perfectionist: yoojin will make sure something is near perfection before dropping it - even when others tell him it looks/sounds great. he keeps to himself around others, although in a comfortable envoirment he will engage in playful banter with all his witty comments. he doesn't mind being on his own and doesn't depend others for necessities: instead other people come to him. he can get defensive though if you call him out on something and grow resentful. but if he believes he is in the wrong he will admit to his faults - even if it is begrudgingly. he is known as a quiet protector - rather overbearingly looking over others and displaying it loudly he is subtle about how he feels yet firm. (for instance moving someone aside if he felt they were being threatened or overwhelmed or stepping in between conflict - verbal or physical - calmly) he can be loyal to a fault, he has had cases where he has done things for those who didn't deserve his unwavering friendship and dedication but he believes helping out enemies is better than nothing at all.

BACKGROUND. he has grown in hongsan his whole life. many others would love to have broken free, run to the city and at one point so did yoojin. but his senior year of high school his father died in a car accident, leaving him as head of the house at barely 18. his younger brothers needed a father figure, his mother worked overtime as a nurse and needed a break even before the crash so yoojin sacrified, or put off, his desire to leave the small town and applied to hongsan university. his father opened the music store when yoojin was only five, surrounding him with such classics and teaching him to play the guitar just a few years later after yoojin begged him for nearly two years. music became his life: he knew for a long time it was a career he wanted to pursue despite the chances of not going successful. his father always encouraged him to pursue what his heart desired, and to yoojin it would always be music. when he inherited the store after his father's death he tried to give it to his mother thinking she would like to control it. but she refused, saying this was something yoojin's father 'would have wanted you to have more than anything.'

LOVE STORY. yoojin has dined at the 'thehwangs more than once. though he lives in hongsan and has no need to stay there particularly he often pays for a room every now and then. since yeonjoo has known him for a few years now she has asks why he was here when he had a home of his own. his response 'the food is good.' however his first interaction with minhee was not even at the b&b place. she had come to his music store in those first few weeks of exploring hongsan during her 'recovery' period and made conversation with him after asking for his advice what is the best set of instruments to try for the first time. minhee never ended up buying anything but an hour later she left the store thinking, 'maybe i can see him again.' because not only was he calm and friendly but also because yoojin had a trusting aura that seemed to wrap her in so quickly. they didn't see each other until weeks later, however, when minhee was just starting work and dropping towels off to his room. of course she was confused why he was staying there if he lived here but she knew it wasn't her buisness to ask so she didn't mention her input about odd it was. but they ended up making conversation after she passed him by check out, where he offered to buy her lunch when she goes on break. panicked into thinking it was possibly a date, she fumbled an excuse.
however after not seeing him for awhile, and him seeing genuinely friendly with no ill intention upon forcing anything, she ended up wandering into the music store offering to take up his lunch offer. it may have been a few weeks late but yoojin was kind enough not to make any note of it - at first. so after lunch they found themselves growing closer and simply being one thing: friends. it continued that way for awhile - yoojin would visit her at work and her vice versa. whenever the other coworkers about the little 'fling' as they called it, both yeonjoo and seunggyu were kind enough to shut it down especially when minhee explained them her rather short but 'scarring' dating history. hence why she didn't anything between her and yoojin to change.. well at first. but naturally as time went on and the more time they spent together, getting to know each other and opening up about deeper things in life, minhee felt her heart began to flutter. this made her panic and push it all down of course, she didn't want to jump into the world of love and dating just yet when she was still figuring out her . plus yoojin had no idea about her past with taesik and everything: what would he say when he found out about her poor choice in men and her liking him? would he be ashamed? digusted? she couldn't but think those things even though yoojin was practically harmless and had a heart of gold: even if his teasing got on her nerves.
it wasn't until taesik made a reappearance in hongsan making very angry/aggressive demands that she come out. although minhee had friends to back her up as she stood up for herself and it was legally taken care of eventually - it ended up spooking her so when yoojin asked about it days later she ended up confessing to him what had happened. and instead of accusations, groans, etc. minhee was simply met with a kind soul she found truly cared about her: and someone she felt liked her for who she truly was. he confirmed he had her heart that night: and the next step was simply whether she should tell him or let him go.

CURRENT STATUS. friends. i think if they decide to date i would want it to happen at the end cause minhee is really trying to build herself back up (
despite having feelings for him later on) independantly after being tied to someone for so long. but i want it to be left up to you if she was chosen based on the pacing and what you decide on in the end.

HER LIFESAVER!

when minhee made the decision to get out she knew she needed an escape plan, or really a temporary home. she absolutely could not face her parents, not after everything that has happened. at least not yet. So she phoned someone she hoped would take her in for the time being, so she could find a job for the summer and get her life together before even considering going back to school in the fall. hyejin did not even hesitate at the panicking request at the phone; she did not even ask any questions. she has always been that way, overwhelmingly gracious but not . It was how she loved on people and she was very close to minhee. both were only children in their families and because her mother's side was so close knit, the two considered each other sisters. when minhee first escaped to hongsan, she decided to stay in the house most of the time and hyejin spent time with her to catch up with everything the past two ideas: and what to do in terms of jobs as well as where to live. and somehow they grew even closer as if even the greatest obstacle in minhee's life could not bring them apart and if anything, brought them closer. hyejin is a lot like minhee: reserved, quieter, intelligent. she moved to hongsan for a quieter life after vacationing there and loving it. she actually knows yeonjoo and encouraged minhee to apply for a job position as one of the housekeepers for 'thehwangs.

YOO
HYEJIN

HER PROTECTOR!

mina was someone minhee met in university, one of the individuals in her english lecture freshman year she befriended. out of everyone minhee has met in university mina is easily her best friend. the two even had plans to room together their second year: before minhee had to opt out and eventually dropped out of college. mina has always been dependable, a loyal protector. when minhee distanced herself from her friends her 2nd year, and suddenly dropped out after winter quarter, mina was patient and never dropped her like some of the others even going as far as defending her though she had no idea what minhee was going through and enduring. when minhee decided to text her about escaping to hongsan, and briefly apologizing for cutting her off and saying if she decided to call she would explain everything, mina did not hesitate to phone her a few days later. (because she wanted to give her space first) after she was briefed and there was no unknown air between the two besides past time, the two grew close again as they did before. now that she knows about taesik mina has found herself taking the role of minhee's protector. while it sounds a bit exaggerated because she is all the way back in seoul, mina fierce loyalty will have her drive a whole day to hongsan just to see if minhee is okay and for that the latter feels like she can ultimately trust her with anything.

MINA
KIM
(21)

HER TRUSTEE!

minhee immediately like seunggyu from the moment he introduced himself and smiled brightly at her. maybe it was because he was so bubbly and cheerful. maybe it was the mischevious light twinkling in his eyes. maybe it's the way that he loved on people like they were family and selflessly thought of others without thinking. seunggyu never pressed her about not talking much about herself when they first started chatting at lunch or after work. he made jokes and as ridiculous as they could be, they managed to make minhee smile. he had this untouchable trust that she (for some reason) knew in her gut he wouldn't ruin for his own benefit. they were the same age but because minhee was a couple of months older, she felt so fond of him like a younger relative. he always enjoys hanging out with her, even giving her photography when she shows her interest in them a few weeks after she starts working at 'thehwangs. he reads the book she gives him and will happily discuss with her the plot. he is also the first person she tells her background story of why she came here. he is her first friend on this island and she is so thankful to him for it.

HWANG
SEUNGGYU (20)

HER LISTENER!

yeonjoo was.. a character. she seemed cold and strict the moment minhee met her but the latter truly believed it was just a mask for formality, or protection. it was also probably because she nagged seunggyu so fondly even if she seemed angry or harsh with her words. she was his adopted older sister so it made sense. so minhee tried to get closer with yeonjoo, which was at first primarily difficult than she originally thought. but when yeonjoo catches minhee at a vulnerable time after a harsh customer interaction, she surprises the younger girl by comforting her and giving her strength by telling her that 'no one can stop you from what your truly desire and who you are as a person.' seeing minhee vulnerability and being perceptive enough to notice there was something different about this girl that she isn't telling anyone about yeonjoo began to soften up on her i believe. she scolded but acted more motherly on her than a dictator. she becomes a listener whenever minhee has a problem or wants to settle her emotions or feelings and decide rationally. when minhee grows closer to her, she begins to share what has brought her here and yeonjoo is a great listener. after that the two became good friends with yeonjoo helping her out with all what she wants to do in the fall - and encouraging her to tell her parents about everything after being quiet about it for so long.

HWANG YEONJOO
(23)

HER SUPPORTERS!

minhee loves her parents with her whole heart and still feels guilty about not telling them what is going on. it makes it worse because they have never gotten upset with her being so distant before going to hongsan in the summer. not only were they not overbearing or overly protective type but they trusted her. they supported her even when they were left (and still are) mostly in the dark. they gave her a wonderfully simple upbringing, teaching her to always be herself and to never let anyone say otherwise. minhee likes to believe it was because of their love, their uniqueness and their morals that gave her the strength to leave taesik. when they do eventually find out everything she learns they never grew mad at her but comforted her and saying they were proud to have her as their daughter.

ENDING NOTES

COMMENTS. so i had to completely redo mine because i originally chose a concept that was already used and it felt very undereveloped and very uncreative. im glad i changed my mind honestly cause i felt this was much more authentic. so i hope you like minhee! she is someone i grew very fond of quickly (and i adore shin yeeun she's so precious) so i hope i completed all the requirements and everything if not let me know what i need to change.
SCENE SUGGESTIONS.
─ minhee's troubling ex makes a reappearance; minhee stands up for herself and is comforted by her newfound friends and coworkers.
─ okay i know its a little cheesy but yoojin serenading minhee at least once like when she is upset or something.
─ yoojin, seunggyu and yeonjoo taking her to the ocean when they know she has a fear of it but desparately wanting to go swimming in and gets her to dip her feet in.
─ a moment where yeonjoo and minhee sit down together and minhee grows vulnerable and confides to the older girl before crying because both reserve their emotions so easily so yeonjoo points out what she has been noticing for awhile and asks if she's okay.
