on the outside, chaewon looks like a native korean but she actually was born and raised in shanghai, china. her father worked an overseas position from his company and her mother opened a resturant in downtown shanghai. mandarin was her native tongue because her parents decided to wait for her to learn korean until she started preschool, believing it would be easier to learn later on - though they did sprinkle words to her when she was little here and there. however because her extended family was back in korea her family always went back to visit every summer from when she was 5 until she was 17. korean was hard for her to learn at first because she started so late and often her cousin's neighborhood friends would for her rough korean. 'what kind of korean doesn't know their own language?' they would mock when she was little. so for awhile chaewon did not like coming to korea over the summer because the people around her were not the kindest.
however when she got older and her korean improved, she grew to love the country and its culture. her aunts/uncles/grandparents helped her understand that these were her roots and while she was born and raised in china there was no problem with identifying with two cultures - no matter how different they were.

she didn't realize she wanted to become a translator until she was 16, spending another summer in korea. the store she frequented at had a coworker and a chinese woman in an arguement. she noticed while the chinese woman understood korean the coworker did not understand mandarin so she stepped in and descalated a situation that was over a complete misunderstanding. after getting a grateful meal from the chinese woman and holding a conversation with her about how she was born and raised in china, chaewon realized she wanted to help more people with her blessing of being bilingual so that more people would not be feared into going/living in another country even if they may not know the language that well. so she decided to go to university in korea to focus on the language completely, majoring in chinese and living on her own while her parents stayed back in china.

chaewon doesn't dwell very deeply into the future, even after meeting yangyang, but she would like to stay in korea being a translator and eventually get married. she is hoping to get a position that pays well under one the companies that produce kpop groups/soloists because then she might get to travel more often and that would be a lot of fun to her.

description of your current home: chaewon lives in a small but homey apartment in downtown seoul. on the outside it may look shabby however on the inside it is very clean and decorated to make you feel comfortable and at home. she always makes sure the window is slightly open because sometimes it can get a little stuffy in there. she also has a small playpen for her bichan, gangtae
dream home: just a cute little house with domelike windows and a pool, with a view of the mountains in the backyard. if it is possible she would like to have house in korea and in china - so she could have a place to stay whenever she went back to visit her parents and vice versa.

han dongho (21) older cousin | the relative she is the closest to. dongho ridiculed his sibling friends for making fun of chaewon and helped her practice her korean whenever she asked for his assistance. because she doesn't have any siblings, dongho was basically the surrogate for the older brother chaewon never had but always wanted. currently is studying to become an engineer at yonsei university and will visit chaewon for monthly dinners they orchestrated at her place, even though he claims he only comes to see her dog gangtae and eat food. dongho is the oldest child of two siblings, dependable and easy-going yet hardworking in school. he helped tutor chaewon in middle and high school as well as his younger brother and all his friends. he was very popular in high school for his good looks, however he never dated because he wasn't interested in pursuing someone romantically - something that is still the case today in college.
chou biyu (21) close friend | one of her best friends back home in shanghai. they went to high school together and were both involved on the swim team where later on biyu went to play for the team at shanghai jiao tong university. despite their busy schedules and different time zones, the two stay in contact and ft on a weekly basis. biyu looks innocent and soft-hearted however once you get to know her she is fierce and very energetic. she will call you out on your bull and there is rarely a time where people can go behind her back and talk about her or the people she cares about without her knowing. biyu was a great friend to chaewon because she helped her grow more confident in herself and be unapologetic in who she was as a person.
min jiyoon (20) close friend | one of her newer best friends that she made at seoul national university. was in her english class sophomore year and the two grew close after they were paired for a project and hit it off rather quickly. jiyoon is a engineer major who is extremely smart and sarcastic, who is also extremely loyal. she is constantly challenging the image for women in today's society and aspires for gender equality - especially in her field. she is a proud feminist and someone who also encourages chaewon to be better person herself. because of jiyoon, chaewon feels more educated on today's issues than she probably would be if they had never met. jiyoon is one of the few who actually knows about chaewon's relationship with yangyang and she likes him, so it is a good sign because if jiyoon dislikes someone - then you shouldn't be friends with that person.
Xiao dejun (22) close friend | when yangyang and chaewon started becoming frequent with each other and veering into the path of lovers, she did not expect to grow close with his bandmates as well. hell she was wondering at one point if he would ever introduce them to her for awhile - since she only briefly met them when she had to jump in the ocean and save yangyang's life. when he finally did and she started going to their dorm a lot, chaewon found herself growing close with all 6 of them but especially xiaojun. the two get along really well and sometimes when yangyang was busy, they would hang out together. sometimes when yangyang and chaewon go out they invite xiaojun to tag along as he usually helps makes things look less suspicious if the three get caught.

first meeting
it was actually on the beach. on weekends chaewon works as a lifeguard on one of the many beaches in seoul and wayv were having a photoshoot on the sandy shore. after it eventually wrapped the sun was setting and chaewon was just in the first hour of her shift when the wayv boys decided to mess around in the water. the younger members - hendery, xiaojun and yangyang - decided to venture out farther and in the midst of their challenge to go the farthest, the maknae got caught in an underwave. it was easily the scariest moment of his life, not only for him but also chaewon. however she managed to contain her fear and dive in after him with the safety gear and a lifeboat, shouting for the others to swim back. basically she saved his life - and when yangyang how he could repay her chaewon refused saying it was 'just her job.' yet he kept insisting, coming to the beach the next day to ask her how let him pay her back, so she finally relented with 'buy me dinner.' and that was how they traded numbers and decided to keep in contact.

hello i'm han chaewon! you can just call me chae though bc it's shorter and easier :) im a university student in korea studying to be a translator.
how would you describe your relationship?
unpredictable probably? don't get me wrong i really like yangyang - he's caring, sweet and very uncomplicated - but seeing a kpop/cpop idol exclusively was definitely something i never expected to happen to me if i am honest.
how do you feel about your relationship as it is right now? is there anything you'd like to change about it?
i really like it the way it is. i value yangyang's company and i get to hold him, kiss him and be around him like we are dating and there are no pressed titles or anything to put pressure on our relationship.
how is your relationship with your s.o's labelmates, coworkers, and bandmates?
very good, surprisingly. i didn't think i would be close with the rest of wayv but they are so down to earth and kind so for a moment, when they are messing around in the apartment and holding intense movie nights, you forget that they are celebrities. i was worried they would be stuck up but they are humble and just as great offscreen as they are onscreen. im especially close with xiaojun, yangyang's roommate and one of the members closest to my age.

only when the time is right. it might change later on, especially if we decide to date eventually, but i don't mind being discreet and hiding our relationship to the public eye. i am a very reserved person anyway - i don't really like posting about personal things on social media unless it's important. i keep our photos, videos, time spent together to myself - mostly to look back on and reflect (and sometimes ill send jiyoon cute photos)

i would like to think there is something more. i have dated before but this is the first time i have really fallen for someone. i like yangyang more everyday and even that in itself is mindblowing to me. i don't know if he feels exactly the same way but im hoping he does. im patient now but sometimes i wonder if i will eventually want to break free and take the next step - sooner than both of us expected.
