  soy beans — comes from the fact that if you take away the i her name is literally soy and because of their affiliation with milk, which soyi puts a lot in her coffee. sehyun was the one that gave her the nickname because he found her name to be really unique when they first met and now the rest of 'volt v' use it, usually to call her when she is distracted, lost or they see her downing her coffee.

STYLE. very much cute street style, with colors from white to biege to tan to light pink. likes wearing mom or straight jeans with tees and loose cardigans. wears pleated skirts and boots as well. as long as it's in those colors and can be both casual and classy she will buy it. will wear slacks and turtlenecks as well as converse/vans but they have to be black or white. a big necklaces, earrings and rings fan as well as small cute satchels.

soyi is a bubbly individual with a friendly smile and a naturally cute persona. she loves to talk, especially with those she is most comfortable with, and is always looking in a positive direction. she has always been raised to know that there is more than what meets the eye, and has experienced that with people in her life, so she never believes rumors or speculations until they are confirmed with proof or the individual involved. soyi is surprisingly very perceptive, though at first glance she seems like a goofy person who can't read the room but actually she can read other people's emotions rather well. the only time she is really clueless about things is when it is involving herself at the center of attention, like she would never really know if someone had a crush on her. she has always been open to change and something different, she thinks its cool when you have something that others don't, so she likes to let the people around her know that she is completely okay with the unusual and the unique. because of this people gravitate to her easily, she is easy to get along with and once you earn her loyalty she wouldn't trade it for the world. she is very caring, even to strangers who aren't so nice to her, because she believes one act of kindness can go a long way. however because of this many may use her for their own benefit and she will go along, afraid to be subjected to harsh ridicule even when they are in the wrong. soyi can be very clumsy and awkward, it usually getting worse if she is aware she is not doing too hot or is having a bad day. 

as much as she wishes she was refined and reserved, soyi often acts on the basis of her emotions. she can be very sensitive even to constructive critcism though she is trying to work on not taking it so personally and having room for growth. she is the type of friend who will cry with you during the sad movies and laugh really hard at the comedies. she tends to, unknowingly, wear her heart on her sleeve and it usually is worse when she tries to deny it. even though she is almost twenty one and is now in a healthy environment with good people, soyi can get really insecure of herself which she disguises by acting goofy and sometimes throwing in degrading things about herself. she doesn't mean to look so badly at herself sometimes, it just comes out even if the people she loves tells her otherwise. she may not come off as it but soyi is an introvert so after a crazy week of socializing and having exerting so much energy, she needs a weekend to herself — hiding under her cuddly bed and watching kdramas. it is only this way that she can recharge and be ready to go by the time monday arrives. because soyi is not an extremely confrontational person due to not wanting to make others angry, especially those close to her, it takes a lot to make her genuinely apologetically mad. that and she was a positive individual who always like to see the light in life. however she is very protective of those she loves so if you are aiming to insult them, she will call you out on it. yet when soyi is mad, she buries it behind angry doodles and angry scribbles rather than releasing the pent up fury with a fight or a scream. her friends are all (jokingly) making bets on the day she loses it. some predict the age of 21 while others say not until she hits 50 and realizes how much her life went by.

part I: birth to high school

soyi was an only child, raised by her loving mother with a father who was never in the picture to begin with. he probably didn't even know he had a daughter, and soyi's mom wanted to keep it that way. for a few years it was just the two of them and life was pretty great. then when soyi was four, her mother had to sit her down and explain that her eight year old cousin, eunha, would be living with them now because her parents had died in a car accident. at first it was a little awkward but soyi's talkative and friendly nature beamed even when she was little so in such short time she began to think of eunha as an older sister, and eunha opened up to her as one. the three of them were a happy family and as soyi grew older she became more energetic, friendly and cheerful probably because she had such a loving environment. then when she entered 6th grade she stumbled upon something most kids struggled with: sharing her mother. now that eunha was in high school, mikyung allowed herself to start opening her heart to other men and date again even if soyi was not entirely happy about it. but who was she to interfere on her mom's love life? eunha was kind enough to explain from her mother's perspective saying why it should be okay for her to share her mother with other people, especially men her age. however when soyi's mom started dating hongwoo, a car mechanic, around her 12th birthday things took an unexpected turn. 

hongwoo was extremely controlling and picked fights with eunha, calling her a bratty teenager to soyi's mom. as for soyi well, he used to watch horror movies late at night and she would wake up to loud bangs and screams. he also would scare her on halloween with masks that would make her cry and chortle that she was being a baby, even if soyi's mom and eunha stepped in. he was constantly over and acted more like the father than the mother's temporary s/o. however soyi's mom chose to overlook these things because everytime they fought about it he would sugarcoat things and apologize, roping her right back in. eunha would take soyi on walks whenever they fought or go get ice cream together with her best friend, jihoon so she would not have to hear the unpleasent noises and the shouts. it took a few years, when soyi almost finished 8th grade, but eventually soyi's mom came to her senses about hongwoo's true intentions and that he would never change no matter how hard she tried to fix him so she dumped him and kicked him out. and after that she apologized to soyi and eunha for all the pain she caused them, tears streaming down her face. luckily soyi and eunha were quick to forgive her and now don't hold her against it anymore, though they did have smoothe some misunderstandings in the past overtime.

since her homelife, at one point, became very toxic and chaotic soyi started becoming more active in school. she joined the art club and the photography club in middle school and was on the soccer team from 8th grade until she graduated from high school. keeping herself occupied grew to be something she stuck with and enjoyed, even after her mother kicked out hongwoo. it was also because of this she met sehyun at shinyong high, who grew to be one of her best friends and tugged her into the group he liked to call 'volts v.' sehyun attended her middle school and played basketball so they were aquantinces in her first year of high school however it was not until they were paired for a project in english class when they really bonded. the boys in high school could be s but sehyun was always friendly and connected her since they both loved to draw. and when she joined the 'volts v' it happened so smoothly it really left her surprised. while soyi had good friends before, this was different. they were all so strikingly different yet she clicked with them so well. they quickly grew to be the people she trusted and enjoyed life with. however it also made the thought of graduating high school and possibly leaving them behind harder. however to her delight everyone got into, and decided to go to, the two colleges right across the han river so luckily they could all keep in contact and hang out — in comparison to if they were hours apart. wanting to do something involving drawing and the little cartoons she liked to draw on the corner of her papers, she decided to go to yeong gwang university since it specialized more in the fine arts. 

part II: college to now

soyi was nervous about college, even though her and sehyun were attending the same university and their other friends were only a river away if anything. she decided to stay home the first year since eunha had just graduated and while she still would be in seoul, she would have her own apartment with a few friends. she didn't want to leave her mother alone in the house just yet - even though soyi's mother insisted she would be fine. and overtime the people around her were right about college. it was enjoyable, her friends stayed in contact and classes weren't as unbearably hard and tedious as she thought she was be.

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WEBTOON AND THEIR CHARACTER. ripley is someone soyi can relate to considering they both are firsthand thrown into a another universe. they also deal with complicated love involving people they are 'forbidden' to have. ripley has her awkward and more endearing moments that ultimately wins the duke's heart and soyi finds it more charming than the original story that ripley was thrown into.

cheol-min felt that personally, he was raised to take care of others. it was all he did growing up so it developed as a natural instinct over time where he simply never hesitated. he has definitely taken on the role of the 'father' in terms of his groups of friends and was always there to listen to those close to him when they were struggling on things in life. however that also meant when it came to his own struggles and personal problems, no one comes by his aide instinctively because they are so used to him being the helper not being helped. because of cheol-min keeps to himself and sometimes feel burdened between helping others at the expense of his own health and taking care of himself first.

BACKGROUND. cheol-min was born in daegu, south korea as the oldest of three brothers. his mother worked for a local resturant as a waitress and his father spent most of his time on the field as a construction worker. both parents did what they could to raise their three kids with love and compassion but were so busy that they were out all day, even on weekends. thus cheol-min was put in charge of his younger brothers who were always getting in trouble as early as elementary school. he developed a desire for becoming a med student starting in middle school because he was always finding ways to heal his dad's terrible back pains from carrying heavy equipment for over twelve hours and healing both of his brother's wounds that they would get from fighting. he poured over books for natural remedies, because medication was usually so expensive and found that human biology was very complex yet so fascinating. so he decided to study even harder in school to become a doctor. when he got accepted as a med student at dongryeok university, his parents were elated especially since both of his brothers struggled in school and were looking like bad troublemakers who would eventually drop out so they hoped some of cheol-min's model student, hard work influence would rub on them now that they were just entering high school and almost done with middle school. however not long after cheol-min moved to seoul and started his first year, his father passed away from overworking his body on winter break. cheol-min almost dropped out of university and stayed home to help his family out but instead his mother practically begged him to stay in school and get his degree because when he became a doctor he could help out the family much more than he could now. cheol-min finally agreed and went back to school after break but also took part-time jobs to send his mother money to help pay for the bills while his brothers, unfortunately, were still causing trouble. 

THOUGHTS ABOUT THE WEBTOON AND THEIR CHARACTER. to cheol-min, the duke is rather cold and pocessive for his liking but he likes that he goes after what he wants and does not care what other think. cheol-min admires his bravery but hopes that he can soften up to others more and learn to trust the right people.

COMMENTS. its been a hot minute since i have decided to apply with a wholesome, bubbly chara so i had a lot of fun writing about soyi. hope you like her!
