      'evie' everyone calls her this, even her out of date parents who never bother to stick around for too long. she was very adament as a child that she wanted to be called evie, not evelyn, and she was persistent about it for years that even family stopped calling her evelyn because she didn't bother answering. if she did, she would firmly remind them that it wasn't her name. 
      'jo eunhee' her korean name that was ultimately registered to satisfy her traditional grandparents on both sides of her family. however she doesn't visit them often and even they have accustomed to calling her evie because of her adamence. it really is just for formalities and keeping traditions alive.

APPEARANCE evie is tall and slender, with clear skin that was blessed from years of care and no heavy acne running in the family. her dark hair was chopped into a chic bob just a little below her jawline, though the underlayer is dyed a warm greenish-gold. her gaze is fierce, her eyes dark and doe shaped yet can be cold and calculating. many assume with her height and bone structure, as well as thin red lips, that she could have easily been a model.

 

both of evie's ears are pierced three times: two on the earlobe and one in the cartilage. she also has two tattoos on the back of each of her upper arms: left and right

evie is analytical, inquiring and curious. she likes to be prepared for everything and genuinely learning new things just for the sake of attaining the knowledge. she is a bit of a bookworm and has a habit of isolating herself in her room just to finish what she is reading, or sometimes watching. she can be emotional but she bottles it behind an unbothered, y facade to protect herself. her words can be cutting and blunt but once she warms up to you there is a side to her that loves talking about the things she reads, acquired by research  often random googling, and the beauty of art. evie is intelligent and does little to hide it: in fact she uses it as a source of strength and wisdom.

 

her career and determination likes to make her believe that she is not a typical rich women conformed to society's standards who is either a trophy wife or wealthy through the prospects of seducing/kissing up to men. however it can make her a little stuck up about how she is not like the other wealthy women she encounters, especially in terms of the mandela university alumni at gabriel's party. her internalized mysiogny, and introverted nature, sort of makes her an outcast at the party and she finds difficulty finding friends -- at least, at first.

 

however personally, i would like to think she would play a thorough role in investigating gabriel's death. evie would either be a crucial detective on the team, probably one of the most serious and focused, the spencer reid of the group imo but also could be an interestingly deceptive and twisted villian... if chosen to be the killer in the story of course

 

BACKGROUND evelyn jo was born the youngest child, and daughter, to the cultured, wealthy and refined jo family. the chain of art museums in the states were started by her grandmother who wanted to pursue art with a buisness alternative. after hosting a successful event with an a-list celebrity when her father was the director, a few years before evie was born, the esteemed art museum belonging to the jo family skyrocketed them with more money than ever before. This allowed them to purchase, and own, more art museums across the usa and even a few overseas. 

 

as you can imagine, there was doubt evie was born with a gold spoon in : she was easily wealthy from the start. but even then her household stuck out a little different than most wealthy families she ended up encountering in high society later on. her mother was just as active in her career as her father, earning her buisness degree and opening a company for real estate. the company did well and was specialized in selling billion dollar apartments and penthouses to some of the elite in new york city. however despite their successes they spent much time away from home and did little to connect with their children, only to lament their high expectations of them.

 

this made the jo siblings very competitive with each other. if evie got straight a's, her older brother would top it off with insane extracurriculars while her older sister would raise the playing field by interning at a highly esteemed company after becoming president of the student committee. they were all close in age, only two years apart each, so as a result the air was always tense between the three of them. by high school evie decided to focus on simply what she desired to do rather than trying to top her siblings in achievements, much to the prominent disappointment of both her parents. 

 

one of the factors that played into this was when she was around eight, evie decided to accept her aunt's offer to live with her in paris, france. she loved it there: even with the pressure to compete with her siblings back home her aunt played a crucial in inspiring her to pursue a career involving art and the preservation of beauty, as the director of the musée d'orsay museum in france. she also became a evident parental figure in evie's life: giving her love, grace, compassion and encouraging her independence and beliefs in her individuality in ways both her mother and father could never make up years later if they tried.

 

she dreaded coming home for the holidays with family because it was simply a long table of people discussing achievements, her siblings practically fighting to top each other to appeal to their parents while they expressed disappointment with evie's lack of enthusiam that only seemed to grow every passing year the longer she was away in france with her aunt.

 

originally deciding to study in france, she only applied to mandela university because the art program was highly praised and hightened in the united states. her aunt also encouraged her to do so in case she did not make into the universities she wanted in france. and while luckily she did, evie ended up going to mandela university because she really liked the art program and figured double majoring in both that and buisness would be efficient enough in terms of her desired career as an art director, just like her aunt.

 

THEIR SECRET gabriel was the reason jackie learned about evie and cam's illicit love affair.

 

at the time cam and evie thought they were being careful. they were sure of it, actually. however cam was growing antsy and wanted to find a way to end the arranged marriage while evie was hesitating to proceed because she wasn't sure how she wanted to tell jackie. she thought jackie wouldn't care greatly, she barely talked about him and even complained whenever she had to go to an event with cam to appease both their families and strengthen both their buisnesses. however what evie didn't realize is that towards the end jackie was actually developing feelings for cam, once trying to get over her pride and finally attempt to get to know him, and by the time she connected the dots 

 

gabriel caught onto this, naturally. the sneaky bastard  
but partly it was evie's fault for being caught - and trusting him. when he came across them in a rather intimate manner in one of the bedrooms at a college party evie had to pull out her stunts and beg him to keep it a secret. it was honestly pathetic of her but she loved cam and how she felt with him.. to the point where she considered risking everything for him. it was a very emotional for a rather logical person like herself.

 

but then again love has that tendency to do that to even the most rational of individuals.

jackie was almost everything to evie. she wasn't close to her siblings, who were hyper focused on their achievements and constantly competed with her to be the best in their academic driven family, and her parents were too busy to bond with her. the only parent she really considered was her aunt but she lived back in france so when evie came to new york city for college, she felt pretty lonely really quickly. but then she met jackie and they clicked immediately. they were like two peas in a pod: when they weren't studying, they were shopping, checking out new resturants, flying to france to visit her aunt and even partying together though it took evie some convincing by jackie every time. jackie was the heiress to a chain of hotel resorts across the country, originating back home in china where her family was from.

jackie's engagement to cam was entirely for buisness purposes: evie wasn't planning on getting involved and when she finally did, selfishly assumed jackie didn't love him at all. however she was poorly mistaken and the girl who loved her like a sister quickly turned into a enemy of hatred - calling her a vicious who she wished would die in the most painful way imaginable.

evie never really got to know her past her relationship with gabriel and her widely blaring reputation as the brash, idiot supermodel. esme was another one of those girls who, in evie's eyes, confirmed society's blatant expectations women. that alone, along with liking gabriel enough to date him for two goddamn years, was enough to make evie hate her.

she despised him, hated him even. he has caused so much damage in the few relationships she so cared for and she will never forgive him for it. there's also a small part of her that knows she is more at fault for the mistakes she made but she chooses to blame him to hide those deep feelings of guilt. after all he played a part with malicious intention: she was just trying to allow herself to be loved for once in her life.

the boy she loved and was tangled in their illicit love affair, despite being engaged to her best friend. however once they were exposed by gabriel, who was seeking malicious intent in terms of pursuing academic success, the arranged marriage was broken off and her best friend spit hatred in her face as evie realized far too late just how much in love jackie was. despising herself, she cut ties with him and swore never to cross paths again. that is until gabriel invited them both to the social gathering of the century. now she has to face him with a brave face, and her ex best friend. but one thing is for sure: the feelings are very much still there. and worse, gabriel knows it.

 

only now cam is determined to not let her go this time and will do anything for her. and as much as she hates to admit it, it sends her heart fluttering more than ever before. probably because when it came down to it, deep deep down, she would do the same.

COMMENTS it was crazy how easily i was able to write evie's character shortly after the bulletin was posted: it kind of all just fell together and i am so, so thankful for that because my writer's block has been heavy this past year. 

 

i hope you like her! it was kind of fun to write a more flawed character rather than trying to make her a good person. the plot definitely helped shape that for sure. let me know if there's anything i need to fix <3
