maybe because she is born and raised in taiwan, a slow-paced country where everyone is relaxed and just go with the flow. there is barely anything amelie would hold a grudge against. she likes to live in the moment and refuse to worry too much for the future. therefore despite her elegant and reserved appearance, amelie is the one who would dare to go all out. and when she wants to have fun, she is going to have fun. amelie is able to stay calm in all kinds of situation. she is the one who is able to take a step back and digest everything before being overflowed with emotions. to be frank, she hardly has any emotions besides the time she got too high and got too drunk. and amelie is an independent person, having been studying in england by herself since high school. she has got used to doing things on her own and when she can handle the bank herself, she knew she could master life in london. but amelie is this person who you think you've got pretty close with, and still doesn't know her very well. she tends to keep things with herself and is not very open about her genuine feelings. though she can be pretty blunt and insensitive while speaking to people about her opinions, she keeps her sentiments well. and one reason why amelie seems to be a level-headed person all the time, is probably because she doesn't empathise easily. she is always staying out of the picture and would be the logical one in the group. that's why many people feel like they are close with amelie, but still doesn't really know her.

 

Background: 

born and raised in taipei, amelie comes from an upper middle class family, which her father owns a local medicine corporate and her mother is the marketing director of a multinational enterprise. her family is no crazy rich asians, but they can always afford business flights between taipei and london for amelie. she completed her high school education in london and therefore entered university a year later than her peers in taiwan. amelie is an international student from university college london (ucl) studying psychology, and she applied for an exchange programme to usc for a semester to boost her cv. she has always wanted to experience studying in the states, so when she saw ucl offered usc exchange programmes for psychology students, she immediately applied (much disappointment for her parents who hoped amelie would opt for somewhere in asia) and with an outstanding first-honour in her first year, she was able to guarantee a spot in the exchange programme.

College Life: 

in her free time, amelie tags along michelle to join activities held by both taiwanese american organization and taiwanese student association. but since michelle is closer with the people from the former, amelie also tends to hang out more with them. she attends parties every week, but she has good self-control and doesn't get drunk easily as she tries to keep a balance between schoolwork and fun. some other days, she would hang out at michelle's place with her housemates and chill as they watch netflix. amelie performs well in her schoolwork (otherwise why would she be able to apply for exchange) and she tends to stay up late for her assignments. in short, she is a person who knows when to have fun and when to cram for her studies, she knows how to make a balance.

 

Accomodation: currently staying in a single dorm on campus provided by usc, but she is renting an apartment with her best friend back in london.

her favourite food is seafood. any seafood. there's a reason why she always visits bournemouth and brighton during weekends. and she tends to travel to portugal or spain during vacations to have decent seafood.

almost doesn't swear at all because she barely gets so angry or so emotional that she needs swearings to express herself.

 

also enjoys watching variety shows like new journey to the west and love island with her friends.

 

has a strong sense of belonging to taiwan and is very politically outspoken.

 

she likes to decide what to eat at a restaurant by scrolling through the menu online before arriving the restaurant because she's had enough for people making fun of how long it takes for her to make up her mind on what to eat.

 

not interested in dating at all until she met jonas. so yes, she has no crushing or dating experience before.

 

likes to braid her hair in different ways. also the type of people to wear head bands or wears a ribbon to school.

jonas is an introverted person who seems to be all about logics and rules. he is the type of person who would forget about time when he has poured his passion into one thing, and he does everything to pursue his goal. it is not easy to convince or influence a stubborn person with anything besides facts. perhaps due to his introverted nature, he is not very good at socialising with people, especially with his honest, blunt words. while it is a virtue for him to be sincere and honest, his sharp words may hurt people. and he is not sensitive enough to realise this. jonas tends to be a bit arrogant and judgemental as well, because he has been quite adaptable, facing different situations without disappointing people, therefore he tends to be quite egotistic. but when you know him well and takes time to understand him, you'll see that jonas is a good company who will occasionally cracks up with a small joke.

 

BACKGROUND:

jonas is born and raised in seoul, as the only son of businessman jang youngjun and seo aera. his family runs a real estate enterprise and his family is considered upper class. he started studying in the uk when he turned 13 for middle school and has been studying overseas since. he enlisted when he was 19, therefore he enrolled in university two years later. jonas is an international student studying statistics and management for business in university college london (ucl).

 

OUR STORY: 

perhaps they've seen each other at parties, but they've never recognised each other until both of them applied for exchange to usc. they only started talking to each other as they were the only asians from ucl doing exchange in usc. well, talking would be an overstatement, more like amelie single-sidedly texting jonas. amelie tried to be closer to him but for some reasons, jonas doesn't talk so much and keeps a safe distance from amelie. but jonas is good-looking and has this mysterious aura that attracts amelie, leading her to develop this small crush for him.

 

she thinks he hates her. and she doesn't know, is dying to know why. jonas is probably the number one issue that fluctuates amelie's peaceful mind. in reality, jonas is just a bit awkward around people and amelie is really pretty. so when amelie saw how close jonas got with leon and seth in a short time (they hang out at kasa a lot of time), she got really puzzled and started drinking rapidly at a party one night. and everyone knows amelie shouldn't get drunk with jonas in the room but she did, and she practically climbed all over jonas that night unconsciously.

 

amelie thought jonas hated her even more so she became super awkward around him. but that night was the time when jonas realised he might have developed a small crush for amelie as well. so he tried to get close to her by joining the trip along leon and seth. and now they're in this ambiguous friends status that might have something going on, but none of them have realised that yet because they're just this dumb.

 

everyone on the trip would see that jonas treats amelie differently. he is constantly trying to take care of her, and whatever amelie wants, jonas would be there. they would often be seen doing small talks and they've grown very comfortable with skinships between each other. chanel swears to god everytime amelie falls asleep on jonas' shoulders, half of the time she's clearly awake.

 

they're slowly adapting to each other's cultures and lifestyle. jonas is becoming more outgoing with amelie's influence and amelie is turning into a more expressive person with her feelings because jonas wouldn't open up easily. since amelie watches korean shows and dramas on a daily basis, she is more familiar with korean then jonas is with mandarin. they usually communicate in english, but amelie likes to joke around with her broken korean, totally ignoring grammars and honorifics. but jonas appreciates how she tries to pull them closer. he is also slowly picking up mandarin vocabularies and phrases during the trip, with so many members speaking mandarin.

 

ENDING: they could end up together (during the trip, even) and go back to london as a loving couple but i'm always up for surprise!

 

TRIVIAS:

can cook really well since he has been living alone for many years. one of the many things that attract amelie so much. his best dishes are seolleongtang (ox bone soup) and lamb chop.
