I’m on the fence of this episode. The first half is good and genuinely interesting. The second half is where things start to kind of go bland for me. I do have a lot of qualms with this episode but I’ll get to it later. Over all the quality of how it was shot is really good. It seems like they’ll keep the shooting this way or at least edited like this so at least it’s not a pain to look at anymore.

Differences and Missing/Added Parts

1.) Jumbled order, again

Well, just like Hua Hin, the order is mixed up. I’m not 100% why they did it but it could work. However if we go back and use our analysis on the Hua Hin episodes let’s not get our hopes up for quality stuff in the story department. I’ll be optimistic but will not be surprised if things go south. I would like for them to improve since next week’s episodes are supposed to be based off my favorite chapter, 41, and I’m expecting a ton of tears.

2.) The 3rd wheels

Not really included in the novel but they added a new dynamic. They start 2 new 3rd wheels and ironically end a 3rd wheel this episode. The actors Bank and Kai appear as the new love interests to the PerWin and OhMick dynamic. For OhMick, I feel bad because everyone knows where this is going just like how everyone knows where PhuNoh is going so Kai’s character is obviously going to be in for a rough time. He’s adorable and can be threatening (he shooed Mick away just like Earn shooed Phun away, but if history repeats itself, that’s a horrible sign for him). PerWin’s 3rd wheel, Bank, however looks very interesting. Considering what’s happened and the situation the characters are in, seeing Bank as an actual contender for Win’s feelings is possible. It actually has us guessing whether it will be PerWin or Win and the new challenger.

3.) Earn’s hopes shattered

Poor Earn. He never gets a break. It’s sad too because in season 1 and in the novel he’s described as very helpful to everyone. In the series he helped the Angels gang perform for the big soccer event, and has helped the band club in the novel. The latter may be because of Noh but I’d like to think he was just genuinely helpful. They cut Earn helping Noh moving equipment from the series in favor of having Earn extremely depressed about knowing he has no chance of winning Noh’s affection. That aside, I fairly hated how Noh reacted in the series. Novel Noh tries to be nice and oblivious about it but series Noh looks more like he just wants to run away. Like he’s feeling like Earn will pounce on him at any moment during the first half of their conversation and I really hated it. You say you’re happy he’s a good friend to you, yet you act like he’s going to force himself on you when he’s trying to let out his feelings of despair in relation to you. Noh redeems himself slightly saying he values their friendship but an irked moment comes to mind right after.

4.) PerWin Drama

Okay, we all know this was coming up. PerWin and them hitting the rocks. Let’s just dive right in. There is a main idea going around that Per is acting like a d!ck to Win because he’s trying to drive him away. Like, I want you to hate me so you’d stay away so I can protect you. Fair enough, it makes his attitude he’s giving Win redeemable. Martyr mode, I’m willing to suffer to make sure you don’t suffer physically. The problem? Now he’s suffering emotionally. Now not only do his parents not understand their child because of their uality but you leave him alone with no support. You were the only one really keeping him together Per, and distancing yourself from Win in a time where he can become vulnerable can end disastrously.

Next pointer I know everyone hates me for saying, but Per is kind of justified in acting like this. Not justified in a way that he should feel angry because he finds out his friend has a ton of photos of him and is kind of giving off a stalker vibe, but justified in a way that he can be confused about how he feels about his friendship. Everyone and their mom has been talking about that, “Oh, if my bestfriend had a crush on me, blah blah blah, I’d still be cool with them.” Some of those cases are true but most aren’t. Also, you don’t act like that after just finding out about such things. You feel awkward and want to distance yourself from them to evaluate your friendship as a whole.

I think that’s what Per is doing. He’s 50% doing it to drive Win away so as not to get hurt at home but he’s also 50% confused himself on their status as friends go. Knowing your friend likes you, you’re 100% straight, and doubting whether your friendship was 100% platonic in your friend’s eyes makes your perspective on things change. It’s leaves yourself with just a bunch of questions. Anyways I hope it’s a 50/50 thing, combining the more Martyr type theory with my own realistic theory. Remember, PerWin’s drama is darker than the other couple’s in comparison.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Irked moments:

Ugh, so let me get this gay. Jeed poses for a magazine showing cleavage and she gets shunned by the whole school. Aim has a legit tape on the internet shown everywhere, putting the name of the school in jeopardy, but she gets pitied, keeps her friends, basically scotch free. BS

So Noh just crushed the hopes and dreams of Earn ever having a chance with him (also in an awkward, stay away from me feel from him) and seconds after he leaves you’re not even the least bit sad about it and start flirting with Phun. It’s extremely hard for me to like the proceeding PhuNoh scenes being all romantic and sweet when you just broke someone else’s heart. -_-

Positives the Episode brought:

- The angles or the way everything shot this episode is still really good

- That soccer ball scene

- Ssing’s acting for Per is really good

- OhMick’s dynamic is still loveable

- Bank’s character, I kind feel like rooting for him

- PetEarn scenes were very somber

- Yuri being a true friend

- Ngern’s acting was just amazing

- The 3 princesses (Noh, Mick, and Win)

- I guess if it wasn’t directly after breaking Earn’s heart, PhuNoh moments would be nice

Overview:

1.) Rubix cube storyline again

2.) 2 Triangles begin as 1 ends

3.) Panda 3

4.) The Per conspiracy

Personal Opinion:

Don’t really have a long personal opinion this time. This episode wasn’t exactly a happy one, in fact the happy moments with PhuNoh feels out of place with all the sadness around. I find it funny that in episode 8, PetEarn and OhMick were the highlight because of their relationship being so good and PhuNoh was starting to get grating because of their unneeded drama and now 8 episodes later, it’s turned around. PetEarn and OhMick are now rocky and left unclear but now PhuNoh has cemented their relationship more. I’m not quite sure how to feel. Episode 8 I had a love-hate relationship with. This episode, even though I should feel the same way, I don’t feel it. I should have a similar love-hate feel that I did for episode 8. I loved it because the chemistry between the focused ships felt genuine but hated it because the focus on the main couple was taken away and there was added unneeded drama that didn’t follow the novel. Now they follow the novel (even though chapters aren’t in order) really well and there’s no drama between the main couple, but now there is kind of an unneeded drama for the side couples. I feel very strange reevaluating my feelings but I’m not quite sure if I like this episode or not. Episode 8 I knew I liked because there are clear things I appreciated. Here, there are things I appreciate but they are sad things. This episode was a downer so that might contribute to my sad attitude towards it.
