N to S Comparison S02 E14: The One With The Truth

---------------------------- Novel to Series Comparison -----------------------------

Lovesick Season 2, Episode 14: The One With The Truth

Chapters: 36 & 37 (1/2 and 1/3)

Overall, it was a solid episode. Nothing horrible but also nothing exceedingly great either. There were good moments such as the PhuNoh dynamic, the Golf and Noh scene but for me (if I had to nitpick) the best moments were the PerWin scenes. We get insight into their lives that the novel doesn’t touch on but it works.

Differences and Missing/Added Parts

1.) Change in toilet scene

No, not the toilet humor, but how it wasn’t just played as an excuse like in the book. It actually makes sense to be chatting it with Golf about their relationship problems while stuff is happening down stairs. Although I don’t agree with the advice because it makes it look like they should be martyrs, I still liked that Noh and Golf tried to help each other just based off their experiences. There was no judging or malice in their conversation. It was just two friends asking each other advice on how to deal with their problems and I respect that.

2.) Golf’s Arc

Although I was skeptical at first, seeing him come into the drinking session, I liked how they went with it. He’s not there in the novel but I like how they tried to reinforce that Golf is a very good and close friend of Noh. He’s deemed as one of Novel Noh’s best friends and their interaction makes it very believable. The bathroom scene was already explained so we don’t have to touch on it in his arc. With him getting advice from Noh he is now ready to get his answer. He leaves and tries to clear things up with Mo, he wants to make amends and just be friendzoned as long as he can see her smile. He prevails and gets the girl he’s been wanting since the start of the series. Technically his arc in his love life is done, so it leaves him as a plot device for future episodes. Although he didn’t portray or look the part, Moss (the actor who plays Golf) did try the best of his abilities to give the character justice.

3.) Per’s secret

I’m kind of half and half on this one. I mean it’s interesting but I know it kind of messes up some fanfics and perception we’ve had on him. Not sure if it was a production call or P’Hed’s but we learn some new information. Basically, Novel Per was always hinted as the grunt of this little rag tag group of friends. I think kind of like Aladdin. He was described as a rascal and not like the boys in FD College. He doesn’t fall under any of the categories or characteristics that most are known for such as having fair skin, being spoiled, sheltered, extremely smart or materialistic. The cards God dealt to him, however, was being suave or at least being a player. Everyone talks about how he’s gotten with a lot of girls. That was his thing besides being a joker. Series Per however is different. The dialogue stays the same but when he talks to Mawin, the truth unravels. He’s not the “ machine” that people have made him up to be. It was a lie that just snowballed until it couldn’t be covered up. In a sense, we’ve all probably seen it happen or have done it so I give them props for being relatable, but I think I liked the idea of Novel Per more. Like all the FD College boys had a thing in their group. Noh’s the lazy rambunctious one, Ohm the strict but joking second in command, Keng the smart boy with 2 idiot friends, Film the mature, gets things done, type guy. Everyone has their thing but now we’ve striped Per from one of his major aspects, his suave or playboy nature. I’ll just be more interested to see where they take his character from here.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

An irked moment:

So through all the abuse, cheating, obnoxious attitude and neglect, and what was finally the last straw that made Mo leave Moan and realize he was a horrible boyfriend? He didn’t have his cover picture on Facebook of them together………. Really? That was the slight tap that pushed you over the edge? He wouldn’t use a cover picture of you two? Run Golf, this girl is crazy.

Positives the Episode brought:

- PhuNoh moments in a light hearted way

- PerWin moments showing their closeness

- The drinking session gets slightly better

- Khom’s interaction with his friends

- Golf and Noh moment showing how not to be judgmental

- The two housekeepers are pretty entertaining

- Feeling of friendship or bonding is refreshing

Overview:

1.) A better toilet scene

2.) A wild Golf appeared

3.) Per’s not so dirty little secret

Personal Opinion:

It was a solid episode. It had a few changes here and there. Some I obviously liked more than others but whether they will play a role in the future is up in the air.

I like PerWin’s genuine friendship shining through. I guess that’s the way I see episode 14 as. Friendships without judging and confiding in our friends are highlighted the most. Per shares his secret to someone he’s known for years that he says he wouldn’t tell to his best friend, Knott. It shows the strong bond they have but also shows how insecure Per is about himself. Not only does he feel unwanted but he kind of believes that no one wants him as well. Whether it plays a role in future episode is questionable but just going off his statement, he could be a much sadder person than we give him credit for. We always see him cheery, confident, and joking but it was good to see a side of him where he wasn’t so cheeky.

Golf as a separate character from the novel is actually really good. If we take out the aspect that he has an established character in the novel, he himself is a friend or person we can root for in a way. He brings an outsider’s opinion on PhuNoh’s relationship because he doesn’t really see them interact in school so he’s doesn’t judge them at all or even try to make fun of them. He’s one of the few confirmed straight guys out of the bunch of ually confused boys at that drinking session.
