N to S Comparison S02 E05: The One With The Trip To Hua Hin

---------------------------- Novel to Series Comparison -----------------------------

Lovesick Season 2, Episode 5: The One With The Trip To Hua Hin

Chapters: 27 (half a chapter)

I’m very happy with this episode to be frank. This was the best episode so far compared to 1-4. A ton of characters were developed. There were some side scenes here or there for filler but it was filler with a purpose. It didn’t feel like it was there just to make the 40min running time. It actually gave the viewers insight into what the characters may be thinking other from Noh’s perspective. Enough praising, let’s get to the actual comparison.

Differences and Missing Scenes

1.) Aim The Marionette

First off, I have nothing against Prim the actress. She can be the kindest or humblest person when not in her character. However, Series Aim seems to be missing emotion. Novel Aim is snarky and of course, provocative in a way. She basically seems like the stereotypical vapid popular girl. The series has given Aim enough screen time to develop but right now she seems like she’s part of the scenery.

2.) Days Jumbled?

Novel readers know that the first day everyone goes to the beach. It’s a fun part of the chapter with everyone enjoying themselves, jealousy ensues, controversy happens, and then cliff hanger. This “first day” at the resort is nowhere in the novel. I think this was the missing day. In the novel it goes, day 1 = beach, day 2 = Phun and Yuri buy things, day 3 = NA. I think this was “day 3’s” plot combined with part of day 2’s.

3.) No Le y Time

Everyone knows what this episode was supposed to have. Phun and Noh were supposed to share a room and have a “goldfish scene” together. Surprisingly enough, I’m not that devastated about it. I’ve come to terms that there won’t be explicit scenes in Lovesick the Series. The novel itself doesn’t give any detail on the actual act, but they hint at who received and who gave. So if we can’t have those kinds of scenes, I’m glad we got actual character depth in most characters this episode.

Personal Opinion:

I’m delightedly surprised with this episode. My views from last episode made me seem bitter but in a way where I wanted to see justice given to the novel. This episode proves that their team can deviate from the storyline a bit but still tell a good story. I don’t know whether the directors and writers edited this episode because of the feedback or if it was originally going to air like this, but it made me feel like the “old” Lovesick was back. Mo’s storyline was interesting as it’s not completely all about her relationship with Moan and/or Golf. Her development as a character was much welcomed. Hope they keep the momentum up in the next episode.
