N to S Comparison S02 E03: The One With The Fantasy Sequence

---------------------------- Novel to Series Comparison -----------------------------

Lovesick Season 2, Episode 3: The One With The Fantasy Sequence

Chapters: 24-26

Before I start, I had an idea to create a post like forum talking about the comparisons of the Novel and the Series and scenes that are missing from the series but are in the novel. At the end of the breakdown I might add interesting tippets to the end area of the post. Sorry if it’s in English considering this is a Filipino group. English is my 1st language.  Remember, helpful feedback is well welcomed.

Differences and Missing/Added Scenes

1.) Closeness of Friday College Groups

The series actually foreshadowed the relationship of the Cheer Club and Band Club. Days were spent after school practicing and coordinating. This was the time to show it but it never happened. Novel Noh describes the group he sits with, “The ones that helped out during the soccer event, the cheerleaders, the troops, the parade members, stand members, marching band members and the likes”.

2.) A random Golf has appeared *Cue Pokemon Battle Music*

The Novel’s, Noh, goes into Golf’s character. The viewers have seen his life but if you were to take that out, you’d think, “Who is this random dude showing something important”. Flashbacks of their younger years explaining that he was one Noh’s BESTFRIENDS, was a Band Club member, and his expulsion from their school would’ve helped. They definitely had the time to fit it in with all the fantasy sequences.

3.) Endearing Earn is endearing – Sad Panda

From #1, Earn is present in Noh’s group. His dialogue suggests that Noh and Earn are close friends and not just a unrequited love/crush relationship. The ship with Pete is nice but we could’ve had both in this episode. A few dialogues from chapter 24 & 25:

- “Yo, Phun! Quit playing around! Noh, come have a seat!” Thank you God, for making EARN say something and saved my life. He shouts an invitation for me to sit next to him. I settle in on an empty chair that they saved for me.

- “Get me another oneeeee,” Even though EARN keeps nagging me.

4th Wall Breaking and/or Easter Eggs:

- Goldfish scene. Acknowledging the cut away isn’t just a coincidence.

- Lovesick Shirt. Unless this is some alternate universe, that shirt is a big brick from the 4th Wall.

Positives the Episode brought:

- EarnxPete ship is starting to set sail

- The Pang Gang fan girl over the PhunxNoh ship

- MUSIC! ACTUAL MUSIC!

- The Fantasy Sequences, although weird, were creative and entertaining

- Lavender Blue (Cinderella 2015 lullaby song) and Broke Back Mountain references

- The PhunxNoh ship is still going strong

Overview:

1.) Boy bonding would have been nice.

2.) Golf, the exposition Pokemon.

3.) Still no love for Earn……… even in the series.

Personal Opinion:

A good episode but lacked the drama the novel had. Noh had just found out about Aim’s lustful ways but they weirdly glance over it for comedy, when in reality, Noh would have been distraught, angry, and confused like in the Novel. Amazing PhunxNoh moments but with weird fantasy sequences made it feel rushed. Weird but good is the best way to describe this episode.
