The sound of drums filled his ears as he turned the volume of his music up to the maximum. He nodded his head with the beat.

The competition was two weeks away and he was so close to being able to play the part perfectly.

His hands flew in front of him, playing his imaginary air drums. His favourite part was coming up, as well as the most difficult.

Suddenly, all the streetlights flickered off. He stopped mid-step, heart stopping for a moment before taking off at light speed. His imaginary drum practice forgotten at the moment, he pulled out his earphones.

The lights flickered back on. He let go of the breath he was holding

He started walking again, moving at a quicker pace, heart thudding in his chest.
