CHAPTER TWENTY SEVEN

Jaebum, Jina and Bambam visit the grave of Mark and Jackie. It’s been five years since they died. Through Jackie’s letter, Jaebum finally found out the truth about Jinyoung’s stolen recipes and strange failures during her career. Even so, he forgave his late wife’s best friend.

“Daddy, do you think Aunt Jackie is happy up there?”

Jaebum lifts his son, “I’m sure she is. With your Uncle Mark.”

The couple moves on to Jina’s parents’ graves.

“Mom, this is Jaebum. He’s my boyfriend and this is his son, Bambam. Dad met them while he was still here.”

The child waves at the grave with a big smile on his face, “Hello, Grandma and Grandpa.”

“We’re getting married in a month’s time and… I hope you’re okay with letting him take over Kim Foods.”

Jaebum bows and speaks, “I will do my best!”

While the couple is paying their respects, Bambam suddenly points at a space behind the grave and tells his parents, “Mommy, Daddy, there’s an old couple there. They’re waving at me and they look really happy.”

Thinking it might be her parents, Jina tells Bambam and carries him, “Really? Maybe that’s Grandpa and Grandma!”

The kid beams at her, “You look a lot like Grandma, Mommy!”

Jina ruffles the child’s hair, “Aww, so that means Mommy is beautiful, right?”

“Very! Definitely gorgeous…” Jaebum interrupts and circles his arms around his soon-to-be wife’s slender waist. He rests his chin on Jina’s shoulder.

“I’m hungry…”

“Tss, you’re always hungry. I can’t believe you’re not fat.”

“Come on, you can just say outright that I have a great body. You’ve already seen it.”

“Shut up, Bambam can hear you.”

“Okay, okay! Let’s go grab something to eat.”

Before leaving, Jaebum glances at the grave once more. ‘Thank you for believing in me…in us… Thank you, Mother and Father…’

At a fast-food restaurant…

“Bambam, don’t just eat chicken and fries. Here, baby, eat this,” Jina twirls some spaghetti on a fork and offers it to the child.

“I only want chicken~~!”

“Oh come on, please~?”

Jina makes cute begging faces in hopes that the kid will listen to her.

Seeing no response, she turns to her fiancé who’s sitting beside her and whispers, “What should I do?”

“Just let him eat what he wants. He will eat that when he’s done with all the chicken. Trust me, this is based on experience.”

Jina wants to say more but Jaebum winks at her and offers her some spaghetti instead. Having been busy feeding Bambam, she hasn’t eaten her breakfast yet so she decides to let the kid eat on his own first.

“Say ‘Ah~’,” Jaebum says with a grin on his face.

His fiancée plays along, “Ah~.”

The woman follows Jaebum’s hand but the latter moves his hand farther making her lean closer.

With Jina just a few meters away from him, Jaebum leans and kisses his fiancée on her forehead, completely taking her by surprise.

In an instant, Jina turns red and lightly hits Jaebum’s arm. “What the hell was that?!”

Chuckling, her fiancé tells her, “But you liked it, right? I’m sure you didn’t expect that.”

At the side, Bambam giggles at his parents as he chants, “Daddy and Mommy are so cute and sweet~~!”

The couple laughs as well and Jaebum finally feeds the spaghetti to Jina who also holds the fork herself, making sure her future husband doesn’t do anything silly again.

A few minutes into their breakfast, Jina starts feeling unwell and rushes to the restroom.

When she came back, Jaebum assists her back on her seat and quickly gives her a glass of water. “Are you okay, love?”

“I-I’m okay…”

“What happened there?”

“I… threw up… Sorry.”

“It’s okay maybe—What?!”

“Jae, I think…”

“Oh my god.”

The couple looks at each other with wide eyes.

Silence.

“…When did you last have your period?”

“I… I don’t remember… Two or three months ago?”

“Oh god!”

Curious little Bambam asks, “What’s wrong, Mommy? Are you sick?”

Not knowing what to say, Jina tells her son, “I think—”

“We will be having a new baby,” Jaebum continues for her.

Hearing this, the child jumps excitedly and hugs his parents. “Yay! I will finally have a sibling!!!”

Happy at his son’s reaction to the news, Jaebum calms Bambam down, “Now, now… We still have to double-check, okay?”

“Bammie wants lots of siblings!”

Jina gasps, “No, baby… And how many is ‘lots’?”

Bambam turns to his Dad, “Daddy, please? Please, please, please???”

Jaebum laughs saying, “Well, it depends on your Mom.” He winks at Jina making her laugh as well.

The child rubs his Mom’s belly, “Your brother is here and I can’t wait to see you~!”

Jina smiles at her partner and whispers, “I love you.”

“I love you more, soon-to-be Mrs. Im.”

“Mommy! Taehyungie went poo-poo again!”

“Alright, I’m coming!”

“Bambam, don’t carry your brother! Mommy and Daddy will take care of Taehyung.”

“No, Daddy. I want to help Mom!”

“Uwaaaaa~~~!!!!!!”

I will never be able to express in words just how thankful I am to have met Jaebum. He changed me and made me a better person. I thought that I will never open my heart again and let anyone come close to me for fear that if I do, I will get hurt again. I put up walls to isolate myself and he tore through them. I learned to love again and I did get hurt; but I didn’t let it hinder me from achieving what I have now – true happiness.

Love isn’t all about the good things. Pain and challenges add spice to it and overcoming them makes the experience even better and the bond even stronger. With Jaebum, I know nothing can ever break us apart.

A/N: So this is the final chapter! I'm not sure if you're happy with it but I did my best and although I actually finished writing the whole story exactly a year ago (yeah, the delay in updates is mostly because of my busy life-slash-hectic-schedule-slash-stressful-work), before I post an update, I always re-read the chapter and make revisions.
