She lets go of his arm, and in that moment, his heart drops. He bites his lip to hide what he feels, he in the air around him; he smells her perfume. She looks at him with that look, with those eyes, with that smile and Junhong hates her. He hates her with every atom in his body, he tells himself this. He hates her husband-to-be too.
Before it all happened he was only Choi Junhong. Just Choi Junhong. Choi Junhong. Choi. Junhong. He was not Choi Junhong, Park Sooyoung's nemesis turned best friend.
He goes to where her family is; her aunt and his uncle. That's the only family she has. Junhong isn't her family, he's just a friend who walked her down the aisle. He sits down when everybody does and so the ceremony starts and the classical wedding march song ends. Fists clench around his heart when he sees her leaning towards Sungjae and then a smile appears on his face appears a second later.
Junhong and Sooyoung had always been two sides of a coin. They had always been parallel lines, fire and ice, oil and water, Heaven and Earth; they don't dare cross paths with one another. But one day Sooyoung just had to be snotty about Junhong accidentally tripping her in the cafeteria in front of everyone when they were in high school and she just had to make a scene about it and she just had to make a ruckus and he just had to get annoyed and they landed themselves in detention.
For disrupting the peace and raising their voices in school premises, those 2 weeks of cleaning classrooms made them closer to each other than they ever expected. Sooyoung always tells him she never regretted shouting at him that day. It made him think he had a chance, which is stupid.
As he looks at her now with time ticking slowly by and words spewing out of the pastor's mouth, he knows he never really had a chance. Sooyoung was fire and eyeliners and rosy red cheeks and was all about late night drives that took you to nowhere. She was the best kind of odd; the kind that did not match him.
Starry nights is what Junhong lives for. But there was one twinkling night he would like to forget forever, which was not possible in any sort of way. How unfortunate of him, but it can't be helped. Things go left when he wants them to go right the most.
