A week later, the Eastern Mansion was all set to receive its new residents. Yunho and the other members of Moon Clan made sure to be at the mansion first thing Friday morning to ensure first pick of the rooms. To their chagrin, they were met by Star Clan's moving truck, just then leaving the estate after a job well finished.

"When the hell did you get here?" Jonghyun asked Sehun, who happened to pass by, carrying an armchair.

"Last night. Jaejoong hyung said that he'll be damned if he lets you guys take the best rooms."

Sighing deeply, Yunho resigned to the fact that he might never beat Jaejoong's speed and audacity when it came to feathering one's nest. He picked up a suitcase, nodding to the others to follow. Hopefully they weren't stuck with the servant's quarters, if such existed in this house.

Luckily, the mansion's bedrooms were more or less symmetrical. Come lunch time, everyone was fairly pleased with the rooming arrangements. If one went up the left staircase, they would reach Star Clan's quarters, while the right staircase led to Moon Clan's rooms.

Lunch is ready, guys! Donghae called out to Star Clan. On Jaejoong's request, he had prepared the most delicious, mouth-watering raw meats for his pack.

The pack members, having taken in the scent for almost an hour without being able to taste it (it had been Jaejoong's adamant orders that no one sneak a piece), almost fell over each other in their eagerness to get to the kitchen.

"Oh god this looks delicious!" Jongin and Taemin almost squealed in joy. Raw meat was a rare feast, and usually only reserved for birthdays and other special days. "Can we taste it now? Please?"

Jaejoong smiled at the sight of his family members, so excited that they could have peed their pants at any second. Wondering for a second if he should tease them and drag it out, or be kind and let them eat, he decided on the latter.

"You may eat", he said, and he mentally thanked Donghae for setting aside a plate for him. Even though he as Alpha always had right of way when it came to food, the pack members' way of inhaling their meat could be a bit overwhelming at times.

Soon, members of the Moon Clan entered the kitchen, lured by the meat, no doubt. After about fifteen minutes, Yunho entered, only to find his own pack members drooling from the sight of the tender meat.

He cast a glance at Ryeowook, Moon Clan's designated cook. The younger shook his head ever so slightly, telling him that Moon Clan wouldn't be getting any meat today. Seeing the faces of s, Yunho decided to swallow his pride, for the sake of the pack. All in the Alpha's job, he told himself.

He cleared his throat, awkwardly and for a far too long time, while working up the mental strength.

"I... don't... suppose there's meat for us in there?" he asked, barely audible to human ears. Unfortunately for him, everyone in the room was a werewolf, with perfect hearing.

"You are correct", Jaejoong said without looking up from his plate.

The Moon Clan members couldn't help but whine a bit, not quickly enough silenced by Yunho through the mental bond. Jaejoong couldn't decide between pity and amusement.

"Jungsoo hyung said to eat 'together', not 'from the same pot'", he explained, settling on smug satisfaction. "You're more than welcome to sit down, though", he added with a not so gracious smile.

The meal proceeded in silence. While Star Clan was busy scarfing down meat, Moon Clan shot jealous looks their way.  Ryeowook's pre-prepared kimchi jjigae was delicious, but it wasn't raw meat.

When Jaejoong put the very last piece of meat — the most tender slice of luxury beef ever — on Yixing's plate, the Omega hesitated for a while. He got up and snuck over to whisper a request in Jaejoong's ear.

"Can I give it to their Omega?" he asked, having ended up sitting next to Luhan and seeing his longing gazes towards the meat.

"Why?" Jaejoong was genuinely surprised. Then again, Yixing was an angel in werewolf form, so he supposed it wasn't that strange.

"A gift from one Omega to another? Peace offering? Because he seems nice?"

Jaejoong couldn't help but smile. He knew that the only real reason Yixing had was that he was kinder than a saint.

"If you want to", he conceded.

Yixing shot him a bright smile before waddling back to his seat. He shyly put the meat on Luhan's plate, to everyone's surprise (and badly veiled jealousy from Luhan's pack mates).

Blushing slightly from the sudden attention, Luhan wanted to offer the meat to his Alpha, as he was supposed to. Jaejoong stopped him.

"Xing wanted you to have the meat, Luhan. Not Yunho. Enjoy it for yourself."

Suddenly, all eyes were on Jaejoong instead. The beautiful Alpha had addressed another pack's Omega without express permission from Yunho. This was considered extremely rude. In the Old Days, it had even been illegal, as it had been seen as a challenge for power.

"What? Jungsoo said for us to be as one", Jaejoong defended himself, not caring about his transgression. "Shouldn't that include being able to speak freely to one another?" Jaejoong opened his already huge eyes to the max, to put emphasis on his question.

"I suppose you're right", Yunho conceded, deciding to make Luhan's awkwardness as short as possible. "Go ahead, Luhan, the meat is yours."

Slowly putting the chopsticks in his mouth, Luhan never tore his eyes off Yunho, sporting an 'are-you-absolutely-sure?' expression. Not wanting to make an even bigger affair about it, Yunho merely ignored him, focussing on his own plate.

The meat was so delicious that if Luhan had been in his wolf form, he would have wiggled his tail as fast as he could.

A/N

To clear any confusion: There is a strict hierarchy, and members of different packs can't address each other as they please. This of course does not apply within their own pack.

Members of similar rank can address each other, like Jonghyun and Sehun (middle rank) and Jaejoong and Yunho (both Alpha). Omegas always need their Alpha's permission to address someone in another pack.

And, as I wrote in the chapter, the Alpha of one pack needs express permission from the Alpha of the other pack before speaking to someone else's Omega. All in order to avoid things like power fights and blackmail.

When I think about it, this story has some major undertones... Maybe an idea for future ?
