2. Cheesy Pick-up Lines

Oh! Are You Late Too?

Chapter Two

The party was basically over now and it was around 8am. Yoongi sat on a kitchen stool as he watched the last of the people left mill out. Looking around the room, he spotted Hoseok, passed out on the living room floor. He scoffed in amusement as he sipped his drink. The guy had never been good at holding his alcohol and yet he still partied the hardest out of all of them.

"Yah, are you going to help or what?" Jimin asked, gesturing to the mess all around. Yoongi shrugged, choosing not to reply. After all, he really didn't plan on helping. Jimin sighed, knowing his friend well enough to know that he wasn't going to help. Taking a seat next to him, he grabbed a can from the side and opened it, taking a sip.

"So, Jungkook told me that you got into a fist fight with some girl," Jimin grinned.

Yoongi glared at him, snorting, "That is a huge exaggeration, we just argued."

"Why? What did you say?" he asked.

"Why are you assuming I started it?"

"Cause you and your big mouth always get into trouble," Jimin shrugged.

Taking a sip of his drink, he frowned, "It's not my fault if people can't tell when something is a harmless joke."

Yoongi thought back to the party – when he'd first seen her. He thought that she was pretty and cute, especially when she missed the bin. He didn't remember what it was that he'd said to annoy her but he remembered how flushed she'd looked. The way her eyebrows furrowed and her lips turned down. Something about her anger amused him – at least that was until he remembered the stuff she'd said to him. She didn't know anything about him and yet she stood there spewing all these insults.

Crushing the can in his hand and then setting it down, Yoongi rose from his seat on the stool. "Where are you going?" Jimin asked. He was ignored as Yoongi didn't even look back or pause at his words. He was working on a song; this party was the break he needed but now it was over, he needed to get back to work. Stepping over Hoseok's unconscious body, he headed into his studio. He needed to get to work. This song wouldn't finish itself.

"NO! You can't make me!" Minyoung yelled as she ducked under her pillow. Jang Mi ignored her complaints, dragging the blanket off her. She kicked blindly as she pulled the pillow tighter. When they'd returned home the previous night, she'd hidden in her bed, not willing to talk about what happened. Jang Mi allowed her the time to scold herself alone but now it was time for her lesson and she needed to get up.

"Min, come on, you can't be late," Jang Mi sighed as she grabbed one of Min's ankles. Once firmly having hold of it, she began pulling, dragging Min off until she landed on the floor with a thud.

"OWWWW!" Min whined, causing Jang Mi to burst into laughter. She ignored her friends wails of pain as she kicked her gently, trying to prompt her up. Min rolled around vigorously before stopping and laying lifelessly, her face in the carpet. She said something but Jang Mi couldn't understand it as it was muffled by the floor. She then wriggled furiously again, causing her friend to laugh at her again.

"Min, you look ridiculous," Jang Mi chuckled.

Min grumbled, and then rolled to face her. "My life is over," she pouted.

"It's not," Jang Mi reassured her.

"It is. I argued with Suga! Min Yoongi! He's campus royalty," she complained.

"Come on, no one will know. I mean, no one recognises him anyway."

"Yeah but he could ruin me," she said; she began kicking her legs like a little kid throwing a tantrum, "Why didn't you stop me? Where were you?"

Jang Mi thought back to her escapade in the bathroom, rolling her eyes at the memories. At least he was attractive. "I was peeing," she said, omitting the truth. If Min caught wind of her adventures with Jungkook, she would never hear the end of it.

"Yeah but you were gone for so long. What were you really doing?"

"That doesn't matter right now… what did you even say?" she said, quickly diverting the conversation back to Min.

Min groaned again, burying her face back in the carpet. "I called him a lot of bad words."

"Like what?"

"Nope, I can't. I don't want to remember it. I just…" she drifted off before suddenly sitting up. She looked like she had been struck with a genius idea. "I need to leave. I need to get out of the country." She looked completely serious as she said this, nodding as she continued saying her plan. "I'll take all the money I can find and go live somewhere obscure… like Cradley Heath."

Jang Mi's eyebrows furrowed and she gave Min a questioning look.

"It's a town in England. No one will ever find me there," she carried on rambling, "I'll just have to dispose of you so that no one can use you to find me and then I'll be safe."

Her friend snorted in disbelief at the plan, "You can't actually be serious? I was gonna help you with your little get away but then you said you'd kill me. Now you have to go to school."

"But I don't wanna!"

"You have to. Now get up and get ready or else I'm dragging you out there in this state," Jang Mi said sternly, feeling like Min's mother. Honestly, the girl behaved like such a child sometimes that she couldn't help but be frustrated at the behaviour. At the same time, she thought it was funny to watch. Leaving the room, she grabbed an apple, pulling out her phone. Scrolling through all her social media sites, she stalked people, curious as to what they were doing. Her brother was one of them, who seemed to be in class. He took Theatre Studies, so he was a member of the famous MAP department too. She wondered if he'd been at the party last night.

Jimin sat on the stage of the auditorium with the rest of his classmates. He felt relieved that he hadn't gone to the party last night as most of them looked hung-over and tired while he felt energised. He still felt annoyed that he had to help clean up though as it wasn't even his mess to begin with. His professor suddenly diverted her attention to him, causing him to hide his phone in his lap. He'd been tweeting about the lesson so far.

"So, this is the beginning of the school year. Are you all excited?" his professor asked.

There was a chorus of responses – most of them strained and half-hearted. This was probably due to people feeling unable to muster up the effort to shout. Their Professor, Professor Park, narrowed her eyes. Her cheeks filled with air as she looked at everyone carefully. Jimin held back a snort of amusement as he was still in disbelief that she was their professor; she didn't seem as old as she was. She was very out there and she made them call her 'Bom'.

"Since you all seem so enthusiastic, we should start with a surprise concert," she exclaimed. Everyone groaned, sighing and . Jimin doubted that anyone would have a voice that was in good condition after the party last night. He was proved wrong however, when a hand shot up, shaking in the air like a child. The whole room turned to look at the person, no one surprised to see it was Park Yura.

"I'll sing," she said, standing up quickly.

Bom rolled her eyes, pouting like a child, "Yah, Park Yura you always sing. Everyone's heard you sing a million times, it'll be no fun if you sing."

Yura frowned, obviously holding back the urge to argue with her. Everyone knew that she wasn't the nicest person in the world; Jimin watched, curious to see if she would respond. Instead of saying anything, Yura just scowled at Bom, refusing to sit.

Scanning the class while clearly ignoring Yura, Bom clapped as she pointed at a random student. It was Do Kyungsoo, one of the best singers of the class. He didn't argue as he stood, making his way to the middle of the stage. Opening his mouth, he was about to sing when Yura stopped him.

"But I volunteered. Why are you picking him instead?" she complained.

"Yura, please sit down. You'll get your turn soon," Bom said, waving her hand in dismissal.

Glaring at the professor, Yura sat down, crossing her arms in anger. Jimin rolled his eyes, not unused to her diva like behaviour. Since they were in the same year and studying the same thing, she was placed in all of his classes and he was pretty used to her. She always had a problem with something and she thought she was the best. It slightly annoyed him but it was something he could live with.

He wasn't one for starting trouble with others, so he usually kept his head down when she was throwing fits or arguing. All he really wanted to do was sing and dance. With the Yura drama behind them, Kyungsoo began singing a random choice of song. Jimin thought that his voice was amazing – one of the best he'd heard – but he couldn't help but drift off, staring at his phone instead. I wonder what everyone else is doing right now.

"Min, you're slowing us down, come on," Jang Mi complained as she watched her friend duck down behind a bin. Min knew that she was getting on her nerves but she was afraid for her social life and reputation. She didn't know what Suga would do about her arguing with him so she had to be ready. That meant being on the lookout for things.

"Is the close clear?" she asked, looking around cautiously.

"This the eleventh time you've done this and like always, the close is clear. Just come on, I'm so thirsty," Jang Mi huffed as she frowned at her friend. Min acknowledged her clear annoyance, deciding that maybe it was time to stop being incognito. She sighed, rising from her crouched position. They continued walking as she kept looking around.

The night before had been a complete disaster for Min as she had done the complete opposite of what she had intended to do. Instead of making friends with Suga, she'd succeeded in arguing with him and calling him names. She was definitely not going to get help from him now – not that she wanted it anymore, after all, he had turned out to be a .

She wasn't sure if she was more disappointed with how the meeting went because of her ruined chances or because he hadn't been how she'd expected. When everyone spoke of him, they talked with such high regard about how amazing of a guy he was. They said he threw cool parties because he was a cool guy; now Min was beginning to realise why no one ever met him at his parties. She was sure that if they did, no one would have anything nice to say.

"Stop pouting," Jang Mi sighed, getting her attention, "It's not your fault. The guy must have been the biggest in the world if he managed to piss you off."

Min smiled warmly at her friend, "You're right. He was the biggest ever… bigger than Uranus."

Jang Mi laughed as they let themselves into the café. This time around it wasn't the one that they knew he went to. "So what are you gonna do about your music theory tutor thing?"

"I'll find a different person to help. Getting him would have been a little too ambitious anyway," Min shrugged.

Her friend nodded, looking around the coffee shop. She noticed an empty table, gesturing to it. "Why don't you get a table and I get the drinks?"

Min nodded, making her way to the table. Pulling out a chair, she sat down. The café was pretty busy as it was the middle of the day and many students went there to kill time. No one seemed to pay attention to her, which meant that she wasn't going to be known as the girl who started an argument with Suga. That's a relief, she thought. Her phone suddenly buzzed, catching her attention.

She pulled it out to see a text from her close friend Taehyung:

Did you enjoy the party?

She grimaced to herself, wishing that he'd agreed to come along. Maybe then she wouldn't have been put in the same situation she was in right now. When she didn't send a text right back, she got another one:

Jang Mi told me all about it, sounds like you had a lot of fun ;)

Unable to hold back her groan of anguish, Min stomped her feet lightly. Of course Jang Mi had told Taehyung, she told him everything even though she knew that he had a big mouth. He would probably tell everyone about it and she wouldn't have to worry about Suga spreading it. Sighing, she quickly typed out a text in response:

If I were to kill Jang Mi, hypothetically speaking of course, would you help me bury her body?

She waited patiently for his reply, which only took a few seconds:

Well, hypothetically speaking, Jang Mi is the one who buys me the most food out of the both of you so… no...

Min snorted, rolling her eyes. Taehyung always aligned himself with his stomachs wishes. She quickly typed out a message:

I guess that's true but I know for a fact that Jang Mi would help me bury your body and  dispose of the evidence so I recommend that you never speak of what she told you ever again

Confident with her threat, she sat back, waiting to see how he would react to it. Her phone vibrated soon after her pressing send:

Fine... my lips are sealed

Smiling in triumph, she put her phone away. While that wouldn't be the last she heard of that from him, she knew he was done for now, which was good enough for her. She looked up, searching for Jang Mi as she was taking ages. She felt déjà vu from the night before as she had taken a long time then too.

Min was surprised to find Jang Mi laughing with Jeon Jungkook. He was a notorious player, known on campus for his skills with the ladies, with sports and with performing. She knew that he'd been with many girls and probably wasn't finished. Jang Mi would never fall for his tricks, Min knew for sure so she was curious as to what they possibly had to talk about. Is this why you took so long last night?

Jungkook had just gotten out of his lesson so he was looking to grab something to eat. He made his way down the street, doing his best to avoid eye contact with a lot of the girls he walked past. Many of them had done something more than platonic with him, so he didn't want to cause any trouble by acknowledging them.

He always did his best to make sure that the girls knew beforehand that he wasn't interested in serious relationships – never once did he make it seem like he was boyfriend material. But for some reason, girls seemed to think that they could change his ways; that was never the case. Jungkook had never met a girl that he wanted to settle down with – he was still young, so what was the hurry?

As he passed a girl with blonde hair, he thought back to the night before. He'd been making out with a girl when she'd asked him whether he wanted to go public with their relationship. Utterly confused by her question – he'd only met her that night and all they'd done so far was kiss – he replied with: "What relationship?"

That's when she'd freaked out, chasing him out of the room they'd been in and following him all the way to the bathroom. She'd been shouting nonsense at him the whole time, saying stuff that made no sense. For a second, he'd been worried that he wasn't going to be able to get in there in time as it was locked but he'd managed. It had been lucky that the girl was in there or else he would have been screwed. I wonder who she was, he thought as he remembered her. Her eyes, her smile, her dimples, they all fascinated him.

As he passed shops in towns, he looked into each quickly to see if he'd want anything in them. He'd reached many shops, looking into a coffee shop and seeing nothing that interested him, he continued on.

Wait a second, he thought, backtracking. Standing at the counter, with her head in a beanie was the girl from last night. The one that had helped him out. Unable to stop himself, Jungkook came into the café, standing behind her. She hadn't noticed he was there yet as she stared at something random on the wall.

"Is this the queue?" he asked, whispering in her ear even though she would have heard him from far away.  He was disappointed when she didn't jump in surprise, just turning to look at him. They stood really closely – close enough to kiss if they wanted. Jungkook glanced at her lips, wondering what it would be like. His eyes snapped back to hers when he felt her finger on his forehead. He wondered what she was doing, not quick enough to avoid her flick to the forehead.

"Ow," he flinched, rubbing his forehead in pain. Her flick had caused him to back away, giving her the space she seemed to want.

"Don't stand so close," she responded, smirking at him.

"Sorry," he grumbled, rolling his eyes. She didn't reply, turning back around to wait for whatever she'd ordered. Jungkook scrunched his lips up in thought, how could he get her to talk to him?

"You left really quickly last night," he said.

She glanced back at him, "Yeah, my friend kind of needed a quick escape."

"She was the girl arguing with Suga, right? What did she do to annoy him?"

This caught her attention as she turned to fully look at him. Raising her eyebrows, she responded, "I think you mean what did he do to annoy her? Min isn't easily provoked."

Jungkook smirked in amusement; talking about her friend had clearly riled her up. Now he knew what her friend was called but he still had yet to discover her name. Not wanting to get on her bad side, he nodded, "You're right, it was probably his fault… what's your name?"

She seemed taken aback by his sudden question, her eyes widening before narrowing at him. He just smiled innocently in return, hoping she would find him cute.

"Joo Jang Mi," she answered, warily.

His smile became flirtatious as he prepared himself to say something that would make her like him more, "A beautiful name for a beautiful girl." He froze, surprised that he had said something so cheesy. It was unlike him and it seemed she threw him off his game. That was so lame, he mentally scolded himself, resisting the urge to face plant.

She seemed to agree with his thoughts as she visibly cringed at his terrible attempt at flirting. He was relieved when the barista took her attention, handing her the drinks. That gave him time to think of something to say. When she turned back to him, he did his best to play it off, "Is what I would have said if I was a cheap pickup artist."

Jang Mi rolled her eyes. She does that a lot, he thought as she replied, "Yeah okay, I'll let you off since you seem so ashamed of yourself – which you should be because that line ."

Jungkook chuckled sheepishly, scratching the back of his neck, "I don’t know why that came out."

"Next time, you should try a different line," she said, unsure of why she was actually trying to have a conversation with him, "If you’re gonna go cheesy, you should go all out. Something that'll be so bad, it's good."

He raised his eyebrows in thought, "What would you recommend?"

She seemed to think about it before she said in mock seriousness, "Did you fart? Because you blew me away."

Not expecting that kind of reply, Jungkook laughed. She smiled in amusement at him, her dimples showing. He found himself wanting to make her laugh like she did for him.

"Okay, how about… if you were a booger, I'd pick you," he replied, trying to seem serious too.

She laughed, making him feel proud at his joke. He mentally scolded himself for feeling so happy at her response.

"See, the student becomes a master," she smiled, then sighed in mock graveness, "Honestly; if I were born attracted to girls then the whole female race would be screwed."

He chuckled, finding her really funny. "With moves like those, I'd have to agree with you."

There was a pause of silence, as she smiled at him. He was about to say something when she looked to the side. Her friend Min, from the night before was sat watching them with a huge grin of amusement on her lips. Jungkook wondered why as he looked back to Jang Mi. She was rolling her eyes, shaking her head at her friend.

"Well, as fun as this pick up lesson was, these drinks are getting cold so I gotta go," she smiled politely to him, "Don't forget my advice." With that, she left, sitting down with her friend. Jungkook watched her go, curious about her. He wanted to talk to her more but he obviously couldn't do it then. Forcing himself to look away, he left the café, only realising after he'd left that he hadn't bought anything. Oh well.
