1. Mistaken Identities

Oh! Are You Late Too?

Chapter One

Two girls made their way down the street, one of them dragging the other along. It would have been a quiet night without their chit chat, the streets empty apart from them. The lamp posts lit the way for them, their shadows decorating the pavement.

"Come on Jang Mi, it'll be fun," one of the girls said, pushing her friend along.

"Min, I don't even think you know the guy who's throwing this party," Jang Mi complained.

Min scowled at her back, pouting. "So? Look, his friend invited me."

"His friend, J-Hope," Jang Mi craned her neck to look behind her, raising her eyebrows.

"His name isn't J-Hope, that's just his stage name. His real name is Hoseok."

"Ah, yes. I forgot the music and performing department gave each other nicknames."

"Not nicknames. Stage names," she dragged it out, as if to emphasise the difference. Jang Mi scoffed, rolling her eyes. Minyoung had decided on a major, Music Theory and now she had basically all her lessons based in the MAP department. That meant that she was making new friends and starting to behave like a MAP student; everyone on campus knew that they had weird traditions and the stage names was one of the less eccentric ones.

"So, if I run into this guy, I'm supposed to call him J-Hope?" Jang Mi stopped, causing Min to run into her. She smirked, turning around to look at her friend.

Min nodded, "Yup."

Rolling her eyes, Jang Mi turned back around, continuing to make her way down the street, Min following behind. When they had left their apartment, Min had insisted on being at the back – she thought that Jang Mi would try to make a run for it. She wanted to think that was ridiculous but on the way, she had to admit to glancing around for an exit. It's just too bad that Min was fast and would easily be able to catch her; they'd been through this before.

It wasn't that long of a walk as they soon approached a building, it looked like it had around ten floors and on one of the middle ones, flashing lights could be seen. They quickly made their way to it, Min informing Jang Mi that it was the seventh floor. Once on the seventh floor, music could be heard coming from room 708, the floor seeming to vibrate.

I wonder why no one has complained to the police yet, Jang Mi thought as she looked at the doors they passed. They reached the door, Min knocking at it while glancing nervously at Jang Mi. She tried to ignore it but failed as she grumbled, "What?"

Min opened then closed it again. Shutting her eyes tightly as if she was mid cringe, she pleaded with her friend, "These are my new classmates and potential friends-"

"-I promise I won't be y," Jang Mi sighed, rolling her eyes.

Looking at her warily, Min narrowed her eyes, "Really?"

"Really," she responded, resisting the urge to roll her eyes again. If she kept this up, they would probably roll out onto the floor and that would not help Min on her mission to befriend the whole MAP department.

"Thank you, thank you, thank you," Min jumped up and down excitedly, reminding Jang Mi of when she'd agreed to attend this party. She was about to mention that to Min when the door flew open, an attractive boy standing in the door way. His hair was brown, not something out of the ordinary as basically everyone dyed their hair these days. He wore a bright smile on his face, looking at Min then Jang Mi, then back to Min. The music from inside the apartment was loud, coming through the door as if it were a speaker.

"Min! I'm glad you made it," he exclaimed, "And I see you bought your friend."

"Yeah, this is Jang Mi," she told him, then looked at her friend, "Jang Mi, this is J-Hope." She gave her a look of warning – telling her not to say anything rude about his stage name.

She did as promised, putting a half-hearted smile on her face and raising a hand, she mumbled, "Hi." She was going to leave it at that but Min gave her a look so deadly she had no choice but to say in her most cheerful voice, "It's nice to meet you, J-Hope!"

Glancing back at Min, she inwardly sighed in relief as her friend looked content with that response. Hoseok nodded, gesturing for them to come in. They did as desired, following him in but losing him to the crowd almost seconds later. Jang Mi looked around, overwhelmed by the volume of the music and the many, many people around. The room shook with noise, as people danced along.

"You okay?" Min asked.

She nodded, looking back at her friend with a reassuring smile on her face, "Kinda thirsty though."

Min searched the room, spotting the drinks. She nudged Jang Mi, pointing at them like an explorer pointing at a discovery. "To the drinks!" she shouted, in her best dramatic voice. Jang Mi laughed, rolling her eyes as she followed her friend to the kitchen. It was a connected living room and kitchen kind of apartment, which made finding a wall to hide behind at parties harder for her.

After pushing past a bunch of people, they reached the drinks, Min handing Jang Mi a can of Coke while she opened her own. Giving a smile and mouthing thanks, Jang Mi opened her drink, taking a tiny sip of it. She was distracted from it when she felt Min nudging her. Looking up, she laughed at her friend pretending to hold a burp. The faces she made were so funny that Jang Mi had to push her gently to get her to stop.

"So many cute boys around," Min grinned as she looked around.

"Well this is a MAP party," Jang Mi shrugged.

Her friend sighed disappointedly, "You're such a party pooper. You know that right?"

Jang Mi snorted, and then pouted exaggeratedly, "I'm just saying. So who's even throwing this party?"

Min gasped, covering Jang Mi's mouth and looking around worriedly. The music was loud enough that no one had heard them – after noticing that, she sighed with relief. Turning to Jang Mi, she hissed, "This is Suga's party."

"Suga?" she raised her eyebrow, pushing her friends hands off .

Nodding her head, Min sighed, "You know Suga. The guy who’s famous on the whole campus and not just the music and performing department? Known from not just making absolutely amazing music but also throwing raging parties?"

Searching her mind, Jang Mi managed to find someone who matched the description. "Oh, you mean Min Yoongi?"

Even though they hadn't seen him before, they both had heard many things about him. He was a Music Theory major, who was in his third year of university. In his time at the school, he had thrown a lot of parties that had landed him on people's radar. Not to mention the music he produced which was amazing. No one had a bad thing to say about him but Jang Mi wasn't going to be convinced until she could decide for herself.

"SHUSH!" Min surveyed the room again, "Don't call him by his real name."

"Oh right, sorry," Jang Mi smiled innocently as she sipped her drink. Her friend narrowed her eyes at her, sighing as she looked around yet again. This time it seemed to be for a different reason than before. Jang Mi watched her, curious yet also suspicious. "You're totally stalking him aren't you?"

Min's eyes widened as she shook her head vigorously, "What? No!"

"Oh my god, you are!" Jang Mi grinned at the discovery, "This is why we're here, because you want to meet him. And yesterday, when we went to that café… you wanted to see if you could run into him. Didn’t you?"

The day before, the girls had gone to a popular café on campus that they never really went to. Min had said that it would be fun to break the norm; at the time Jang Mi hadn't thought about the fact that loads of girls went there because Min Yoongi was known to frequent it.

Min snorted, crossing her arms defensively, "I don't know what you’re talking about."

Instead of responding, Jang Mi chose to smile smugly, raising an eyebrow at her friend. They kept eye contact, wondering who the first to break would be. Jang Mi was almost certain it would be Min as she was a complete er for the smug smile.

"ARG, yes, I'm basically stalking him," she grumbled, "But in my defence, I'm not looking to make him my 'oppa' or anything like that. I just want some music tips."

Jang Mi laughed, tapping her friend's back reassuringly, "I know. You may be a stalker but you're not that kind of stalker."

Min pouted, making her laugh more at the hilarity of the situation. Coming to this party probably wouldn’t help as Min Yoongi was never found at his parties. He'd throw one regularly but no one would ever see anyone else but his friends. It was odd but no one ever questioned it.

Shaking her empty can, Jang Mi threw it to the bin. It was a clean shot despite the distance and landed well. "I really need to pee," she told Min, "I'll be right back." Min nodded, allowing Jang Mi to wander off in search for the bathroom.

Minyoung watched her best friend walk away, terribly worried about how she would fare. Jang Mi wasn't the nicest of people on first meetings; while they had come to the party to look for Min Yoongi, she still wanted to make friends. She had recently decided that she wanted to major in Music Theory – effectively leaving behind the world of general study students. Now she was officially a member of the MAP department and she had been making an effort to act like it.

Her brother was already a member so she had someone she could talk to about it but he was an actor, not a music producer. She really wanted to meet Suga as she knew that if anyone could help her, he could. However, she had never seen him and had no idea how to tell who he was. The search for him was harder than it had first seemed.

She'd been looking all around for him since she'd changed her major three weeks ago. She'd been to places that people said he went to, joined clubs that were said to be run by him, visited many parties and even walked past his apartment building maybe one hundred times. Even with all that, she was no step closer to finding him; it greatly frustrated her.

Sighing, she glanced at the bin. Min straightened up as she took aim and threw. Her can missed completely, bouncing onto the floor. Pouting, she crossed her arms. Jang Mi did it so effortlessly, speaking of her, what's taking so long?

"Nice throw," someone snorted from her side, snapping her from her thoughts. She turned to the side, to meet eyes with a very attractive guy. He had red hair that was styled perfectly. Although he was on the short side, she still found herself looking up at him. She was about to smile flirtatiously at him when she realised he was making fun off her. Narrowing her eyes, she furrowed her eyebrows. Patience Min, she thought.

Jang Mi had somehow managed to push past all the people dancing to make her way to the bathroom. To her relief, it was empty. Locking the door, she placed her phone on the sink side; she was afraid she would drop it in the toilet. She then relieved herself before heading back to the sink. She washed her hands, shaking them off as she looked into the mirror. Unable to resist temptation, she pulled funny faces, flashing her dimples to herself. Tilting her head to the side, she ran her fingers through her hair. Maybe I should dye it again, she thought.

There were several bangs on the door, which interrupted her thoughts. Scowling at the door, she messed with her hair a little longer before going to it. She unlocked it about to open it when she remembered her phone. Sighing, she went back to the sink, picking it up. Surprise hit her, causing her to almost drop it when the door opened and closed. She looked up in shock, her eyes meeting with a guy. He put a finger to his mouth as he locked the door.

The boy had his back to the door and he was panting. Jang Mi thought he might have been running away from some guys wanting to beat him up when someone began hitting the door. "JEON JUNGKOOK! YOU OPEN THE DOOR RIGHT NOW! YOU'RE SUCH A JERK!" a girl shrieked from the outside. The door handle twisted and turned as she continued shouting obscenities.

Jang Mi raised her brows at the boy, doing her best to not appear amused at the situation going on right now. She didn't do very well however as a small smile appeared on her face. Jungkook must have noticed this as he frowned at her, mouthing, "It's not funny."

She bit her lip, holding her smile back as she tried to look serious. Nodding, she replied, "No, it's not, you're right."

He opened his mouth to say something when the girl shouted, "JUNGKOOK IF YOU DON'T OPEN THE DOOR RIGHT NOW, I'LL TELL EVERYONE ABOUT YOUR TINY !"

Jang Mi couldn't help but to snort in laughter then.  There was nothing worse than a woman scorned and this girl sounded like she felt very betrayed. Rolling her eyes, she headed to the door. Jungkook watched her in panic, clearly worried that she was going to give away his position. Pushing him into the corner, she opened the door so that the girl could only see her.

The girl on the other end looked distraught, tear streaks down her cheeks and fury in her eyes. For a second, Jang Mi considered giving the guy away to her but decided not to. "I'm sorry but I think you have the wrong room," she smiled politely.

Looking confused, the girl shook her head, "No, I saw him come in here."

"You couldn't have, I locked the door after all," Jang Mi lied.

"Oh," the girl looked disappointed, "I see. Sorry." She bowed in apology before disappearing into the crowd of party people. Jang Mi watched her go, feeling bad for lying to her. You may have stopped her from committing murder though, she reassured herself.  She knew that was a bad excuse but she shrugged heading out. Behind her, Jungkook peered out of the door cautiously before following her.

Min wasn't sure how things had gotten this bad between her and the stranger – it was almost as if she'd swapped personalities with Jang Mi. She remembered him teasing her and her doing her best to ignore it but somehow between then and now, she had started a full on argument with him. They were both stood at the kitchen counter, glaring at each other furiously. Min had her arms crossed, doing her best not to hiss at him.

"God, it was a joke, chill," he said, referring to a statement he had made about Min's hair.

"Don't tell me to chill. Who the hell do you think you are?" she scowled at him.

He rolled his eyes, "Me? You're the one who freaked out over nothing."

"It was not 'nothing', you have been stood there ridiculing me for the past ten minutes."

"Oh my god! You're acting like I ran over your dog or something!"

Min gasped in horror, "Don't bring Snuffles into this!"

"Snuffles? What kind of name is that for a dog?" he snorted, changing the subject.

She glared at him, "YAH! There is nothing wrong with my dog's name!" As they continued arguing, she began to wish that Jang Mi would hurry it up. She was unsure of what was taking her so long and she needed someone to rescue her from this guy. At this rate, she was never going to 'accidentally run into' Suga and she'd never be able to get his help. Her ability to produce was good but she knew that she could be much better. In order to do that, she needed him but at the moment she was stuck arguing with some random man.

Jang Mi was pushing her way through the crowd again when she was stopped by a hand on her wrist. She was about to shout at the person when she saw it was Jungkook. He smiled sheepishly at her which she ignored, pulling her hand from his grasp. She began making her way back to Min again, doing her best to ignore the guy following her.

"Thanks for helping me just now," he said in her ear, having to shout so that she could hear him over the music. She rolled her eyes, still choosing to not respond. She was beginning to feel really guilty for lying to that girl and the last thing she wanted was thanks.

"So, are you here alone?" Jungkook continued trying to talk to her. She sighed as she turned around to glare at him. He smiled again, clearly not discouraged by her bad attitude. Resisting the urge to tell him where to stick his friendly smiles, she carried on pushing through.

She felt relief as she caught sight of her friend but became curious as she saw her with a guy. They seemed to be in the middle of a disagreement as Min looked furious, the guy equally as angry. Jang Mi wondered what the guy had said as her friend was not easily annoyed.

Jungkook obviously wasn't expecting her to stop as he ended up running into her back. He looked at her curiously, and then followed her eyes, seeing the sight in front of her. They were still arguing and Jang Mi couldn’t help but giggle as she loved seeing her friend angry. Instead of going to stop her, she watched from afar, amused. What harm could it do anyway? She told herself.

"Huh, I wonder what Suga is doing arguing with that girl," Jungkook said, more to himself than her. Jang Mi stopped smiling, frozen in place. It couldn't be.

The look of surprise on Jungkook's face as she suddenly turned to him did not go unnoticed by her. She looked at him seriously, in complete disbelief, "Sorry, what did you just say?"

"Oh, nothing. My friend is just arguing with that girl," he shrugged.

Jang Mi rolled her eyes, "Yeah but who did you say he was again?"

His eyes sparked with understanding as he seemed to realise why she was so surprised. Smirking, he shrugged again as he said, "Oh, yeah. That's Suga. You probably didn't recognise him, most people don’t kn-"

Jang Mi didn't hear the rest as she practically ran to Min, desperate to stop her. She knew how finding Min Yoongi was important to her and how much she would hate herself if she knew she'd ruined her chances of befriending him. She reached the two quickly, unable to pick up what they were arguing about.

"You know what?" Min scowled at him, either ignoring Jang Mi's sudden presence or just not noticing. "You are such an arrogant, self-centred, and narcissistic-"

Jang Mi nudged Min as she ranted; whispering in her ear, "Stop arguing. That’s Min Yoongi."

"-guy," Min ended, replacing the final word with something less offensive. Jang Mi could tell that she felt utterly embarrassed so she did what she had wanted to do since they got her. She grabbed Min and she left. Dragging Min along with her, she glanced back at Yoongi, who was now with Jungkook. They both watched the two girls leave, curiosity clear in their eyes. Well that didn't last long, she thought as they left the apartment.
