Kris carefully adjusted the final setting for the memory chips he just installed, his eyes trained on the area around them to ensure that none of the chips were loose in their connections. One wrong connection and the enhancements he’d made to Junmyeon’s motor center would short out, leaving the other man twitching and angry on the medical bay table.
"Almost done?" questioned Junmyeon from below, voice muffled from where he was speaking into his hands. The enhancements required him to be face down on the table while Kris gently manipulated the implants at the base of his skull.
"Just another minute, then we can close them up and run diagnostics." said Kris as he finished using the laser tool to fuse the last chip into place. Once the chip was secure, he placed the tools next to him and gently closed the face of the implant. The implant buzzed and then descended back into its place in Junmyeon’s skull. Kris took a risk, and patted down Junmyeon’s hair where it had been displaced.
They had a rule after all, one borne of the pain of their past relationship: We will only touch when it pertains to system upgrades and hardware upgrades.
Junmyeon tensed up below him, and Kris hoped it was from the implant cycling through its first check and not from his touch. But he couldn’t tell with the way Junmyeon kept his face buried in his arms.
A moment later he spoke, “I’m synced, can we run those tests?”
Kris sighed, at least he hadn’t been reprimanded. “Yes sir.”
