Chapter 4

Husbands With Benefits

A week had gone by, and Jinki felt himself slowly growing used to Jonghyun's presence.

Jonghyun remained on his couch as he slept, reminding Jinki not to watch him as he slept every night before they parted ways. Jinki woke up earlier every morning and cooked them both breakfast before the two of them headed towards the building and he remained in the background as Jonghyun went through his training.

On the Friday of the first week, Jinki had been called out to a meeting and warned Jonghyun he would only be able to catch up to the male later on in that day during his vocal training. After some teasing on Jonghyun's part, with the male telling him not to miss him too much, Jinki shook his head in frustration and hesitated when the meeting was dismissed and he was told to return to Jonghyun's side.

Just then, his phone buzzed, and with an annoyed grimace, Jinki read the text, "Can you get me some coffee on your way back? Thanks, Jinx."

Apparently, Jonghyun had picked up on the nickname Kibum had given to Jinki, due to the fact the engaged male and his fiancé decided to come over on a daily basis to catch up on the couple's lives and to of course plan their own wedding.

Kibum and Woohyun had not apologized for the way they had treated him that night at dinner, but Jinki wasn't stupid enough as to hope that they would, because it was Kibum, and Kibum never apologized. Not the time that he had accidentally left the curling iron on and Jinki burned his hand without knowing, or the time that he left all of his clothes around the hallway, or the time he came into the apartment at two in the morning, absolutely drunk, and started screaming at the walls and arguing with it (an after effect of a fight he had with Woohyun).

"No."

And though his text was supposed to be definite and without space for disagreement, Jinki found himself waiting on line at a coffee shop across the building. It was a constant wonder him his mind, how easily he was influenced by that same male who taunted, teased, and tortured him.

During the past week, Jonghyun had taken every open opportunity he's seen; teasing Jinki about his clumsiness, emptying out Jinki's favorite bottle of shampoo, and bringing in a puppy named Roo, laughing when Jinki ran around the apartment squealing he was afraid of dogs.

Then, he also remembered that Jonghyun cleaned up after each meal without Jinki saying a word, scolding Roo every time he sensed Jinki tense at her presence, and when Jinki walked into his dressing room with the coffee he had ordered, the younger male had actually sent him a sincere and soft smile that slowly brought a smile to Jinki's own face.

Which was ruined the moment Jonghyun took a sip of his coffee.

"You know me so well already, Jinx. Are you sure you're not in love with me?" Jonghyun snorted and took his cell phone out, which had his daily schedule programmed onto it.

"You drink black coffee like it's water." Jinki answered dully, as if it was something anyone would notice about the male. Jinki noticed a lot of things; including the fact that Jonghyun absentmindedly put his coffee down to rub his shoulder, which was obviously sore after a long day of schedules.

"Say what you want, Jinki. I already feel that the aura of hostility you used to have around me dissipated." Jonghyun looked up at him after placing his cell phone on his lap, and the two of them stared at each other as if daring the other to speak.

Then, Jinki spoke, slowly and decisively, "I will never let myself fall for you, when I know you're only with me for my influence."

Jonghyun's shoulders dropped slowly, something Jinki vaguely remembered meant he was feeling disappointed, but Jinki didn't think too much of it as he took out his own cell phone to check on the younger male's schedules.

"You only have acting for the rest of the day, so you can head home and I'll reschedule." Jinki glanced up at the male to see Jonghyun hadn't moved an inch, but his eyes had slowly broke Jinki's gaze, and then Jonghyun stood and brushed past Jinki, forgetting his coffee in the process.

For the rest of that day as he worked, Jinki couldn't help but wonder to himself if he was being too harsh on the younger male.

Yes, they bickered a lot, and yes, they did only marry because they were drunk and saw their own opportunities for success through the other, but Jonghyun had obviously been trying to make Jinki feel more natural around him. Thinking over it, Jinki would rather have someone who argued with him instead of someone who would listen to everything he says without argument.

He promised himself then, that he'd try to treat the male better and without so much anger towards him. With his hands clenched by his sides, and taking in a deep breath to calm himself, Jinki knocked on the front door to his apartment. He would have unlocked it himself, but he had let Jonghyun have his only copy of the key since the male surprisingly made it home before the elder daily.

When Jonghyun opened the door, one hand was still rubbing at his shoulder, and Jinki couldn't help but rake his eyes over the male's form, because he was half and quite lean.

"I take it you like what you see." Jonghyun snickered, and Jinki took another breath before looking back up at the male, plastering a smile on his face and brushing into the apartment without a word.

Jonghyun shut the door behind the male and watched in curiosity as Jinki silently walked into the kitchen and pulled out ingredients for their dinner. It was unusual to see Jinki so calm and patient after his teasing, and it was beginning to make Jonghyun feel unnerved.

As Jinki hunched over the counter to prep the food, Jonghyun's arms s around his waist, and the younger male brought his lips to the elder's ear, "Don't tell me you're feeling shy now, Jinx."

Jinki forced his body to remain calm despite his strong urge to shiver, "No, I just don't want to fight with you."

That obviously came as a shock to the younger, who quickly retracted his arms and stepped to the side to peer at the elder male's face, "You don't want to fight with me? All we ever do is fight, Jinx."

"Yeah? Well I don't want to fight anymore." Jinki shrugged lightly, "We have a year to help you become an idol, and I don't want to spend a majority of it arguing over petty things."

"Are you falling for me?" Usually, Jonghyun's voice would be taunting, but his voice had dropped in volume and was so serious, Jinki had to turn to the male and catch his soft gaze.

"Why do you always ask, Jonghyun?" Jinki raised an eyebrow and put the food he was preparing down, crossing over to Jonghyun, who eventually had his back against the counter, his body caged in by Jinki's arms.

Jonghyun looked vulnerable for a few moments, just looking up at Jinki calmly as if he was waiting to see what the elder would do. Jinki couldn't help but stare right into the eyes that were piercing through his soul. Then, Jinki noticed Jonghyun's hand absentmindedly reach for his shoulder, and letting out a sigh, Jinki turned the male around and pressed down on his shoulders to give him a shoulder massage.

"Back at the office..." Jonghyun muttered as he leaned forward onto the counter, his head bowed, "Did you mean those words?"

Jinki stopped for a moment, his eyebrows furrowing slightly, "Why do you keep asking if I'm in love with you?"

"Because I don't understand what goes on in your head, Jinx." Jonghyun growled, and before he could even blink, their positions had changed and Jinki found himself pressed against the counter, "One minute I can see your walls go down and you get more comfortable around me. The next minute, you're ready to bite my head off."

"All you ever do is taunt me!" Jinki only barely registered that his volume was raised, and he pushed the younger off, brushing past him to his bedroom, "You can order something to eat. I'll go to sleep earlier."

And that was exactly what he planned on doing as he slammed his door shut and threw himself onto the bed, mentally groaning when he realized he was being harsh to the male even though he'd told himself to be nicer to him. He could hardly understand their relationship, as they were always either bickering with each other too long to even attempt to see past each other's flaws. Jinki drifted in and out of sleep, with his thoughts focused on Jonghyun and his anxieties of the future capturing him in his state of disbelief.

All he could register, was that a couple of hours into his time alone in his room, Jonghyun had carefully opened the door and flicked the light on, the smell of take-out waving into the room as the younger walked over the bed and cautiously and almost lovingly sifted his fingers through the elder's hair.

"Jinx, wake up." His voice was a low whisper, and though Jinki subconsciously leaned towards the warmth, he had absolutely no plans of waking up, "I know you can hear me, Jinx. Wake up before I do something drastic."

Still, Jinki refused to open his eyes and kept sleeping, convinced that he was actually dreaming. When Jonghyun leaned down and slowly brushed his lips against Jinki's neck, the elder started thinking that maybe the dream was far too sensual to be in his mind.

Then, the younger bit down, harshly.

"You jerk!" Jinki shouted, using his arms to push Jonghyun off him and off the bed, getting up off the bed and raising a fist to land onto the younger's face.

"I warned you to get up." Jonghyun said, his face stretching up into a half smirk as he caught Jinki's fist in his own hand.

"That doesn't mean you had to bite me!" Jinki pulled his hand back and brought it over to the place Jonghyun had bit, a low groan escaping his lips from the pain, and more humiliating, the pleasure, "And to think I was trying to be nice to you earlier."

Jonghyun looked away, then, and his smirk fell from his face, "You don't have to be any nicer to me than you already are, Jinki. Even if we fight all of the time, I'd prefer you be yourself around me than force yourself to be any kinder to me than you would be to anyone else."

Something tugged at Jinki's heart when he heard those words, and he shook his head as he stepped past Jonghyun, "Then I won't. Have you eaten yet?"

"No, I ordered fried chicken since you said you really enjoyed eating it back when we first met." Jonghyun spoke so casually that Jinki had to think back to remember just how they had met. When Jinki realized they met when they were getting drunk, he couldn't help but stare at the male in shock.

How was it that the male could remember such a small detail that they merely mentioned while they were both so drunk they decided to get married?

"Oh." Was the only thing that escaped Jinki's lips, and the two sat down and ate in a peaceful silence, though Jinki's questioning and somehow affectionate gaze pierced through Jonghyun.
