Protect the Princess!

It's complicated with mothers

Luhan was absolutely exhausted from his first day. Who knew being a bodyguard was this hard? It didn’t help he was serving the ever demanding princess Yoona. Luhan sighed heavily as he got out of the car. He stepped back a bit and smiled to himself. The good thing was he had a Mercedes for him to keep all for free! He could forget all of Yoona’s ramblings just because of this baby. Luhan felt a tear forming and quickly rubbed it away.

“My baby I must name you!” he told the car. He looked around at it, wondering what would be suitable for such a beauty.  “Oh I know!” he said with a smile. “A name that’s just as delicious as you- Baozi!” Luhan kissed Baozi goodnight before entering the house.

“Aigoo Luhan is that you?!” Mrs. Lu exclaimed when she heard Luhan entering.

“Uhh…yeah.” Luhan looked up at his mother.

“Why are you so late today?” she asked looking at her watch. “It’s almost midnight!” Luhan frowned with disappointment. His mother hadn’t even remembered it had been his first day. She would have remembered if it was Jae Hee’s.

“It was my first day at work.” Luhan answered with absolutely no enthusiasm.

“Omo! I completely forgot…” Mrs. Lu looked at Luhan apologetically. “Lu, I’m sorry.” She pouted.

“It’s okay. It’s not like it’s the first time.” Luhan sighed. Those cold words instantly hurt Mrs. Lu but Luhan didn’t notice. He nonchalantly ignored her look and went upstairs, dying to hit his bed. How stupid was he to think a feast would be awaiting him when he reached home specially cooked by his mother to congratulate him for his work like the good old days.

Luhan threw himself onto his bed. “Appa…” he mumbled to himself. “I swear I’ll get to the bottom of this.” A few seconds later he fell into a deep sleep.

“Good morning Baozi!” Luhan greeted his car the next morning. “You’re looking awfully y today.” He commented with a wink. Jae Hee just got out of the house, ready to go to school when she found Luhan talking to his car.

“You didn’t like being driven by ugly men?” Luhan gasped. “Aww it’s okay now Baozi, you have handsome Luhan to protect you from ugly men.” Luhan kissed the car before unlocking it with a squeal of delight. “I’ll never get used to you.” He chuckled to himself.

Jae Hee watched blankly. She didn’t know much about her step brother though there was one thing she could confirm now. He was crazy. With a shrug she walked past him notifying Luhan she had seen him. Luhan pinked and cursed himself under his breath.

“Idiot!” he mumbled. “Now she’ll never talk to you!”

“Are you going to follow me forever?” Yoona snapped.

“That’s the deal.” Luhan sighed regretfully.

“Yah, don’t you want to be around me? Do you know who I am?”

“Princess you are confusing. One minute you don’t want me to follow you, the next minute you’re angry that I don’t want to follow you.” Luhan looked at Yoona with a frown. “Make up your mind.”

“Then don’t follow me!”

“I can’t do that.”

“Then why did you tell me to make up my mind?”

“I meant make up your mind about your feelings.”

Hwayoung slumped against the walls and face palmed herself. When would these two stop? They were constantly bickering since day one! A week had passed and they were still at each others throats. Why was she in the middle of all of this?

“Anyway,” Yoona quickly changed the subject. “Get the car ready. I want to go shopping.” Hwayoung gulped. She was waiting for Yoona to say that. Now things would get really bad.

“You can’t.” Luhan stated expressionlessly. Yoona raised an eyebrow. This dude seriously was something!

“And why is that?”

“I have orders from the King that you can’t go shopping until we arrest the people who have attempted to kill you.”

“You heard this directly from father I presume?” Yoona raised an eyebrow. Was her father crazy? This was practically locking her up. Luhan was surely making things up to annoy her.

“No the scary man that hangs around the King told me.” Luhan coughed. That man was indeed scary. He was scary when he had escorted Luhan to the King and he hadn’t changed when he asked to speak to Luhan this morning.

“Scary man? You mean Secretary Kim?” Yoona ran her hand through her hair. If it was Secretary Kim who had told Luhan the information then it was definitely true. How could her father do this to her? Shopping was her life!

“Anyway you can’t go shopping.” Luhan mumbled. Yoona scoffed and pointed her finger at him once again.

“You!” she shouted a bit too loudly. “Do you think I’ll listen to you? I am the crown princess!” Luhan blinked a couple of times. Had the princess reached insanity?

“Princess…” Luhan sighed desperately. “I didn’t forbid you from shopping, the King did.” He reminded her.

“Well…” Yoona struggled. “Well you’re the one relaying the message so I’m not going to listen!”

“And I suppose you’re just going to waltz out?” Luhan laughed.

“Of course! This is my house after all!” And with that Yoona stormed out of the lobby. Luhan could practically see steam coming off her. Hwayoung who had been hiding behind a pillar made herself visible.

“Luhan ssi…” she whispered. Luhan, who had forgotten Hwayoung was even here, jumped at the sight.

“You scared me!”

“Luhan ssi, the princess really will go.” Luhan kicked the air in front of him with frustration.

“Aish! Why do I have to deal with this?!” When he was about to follow Yoona himself, Hwayoung grabbed his arm.

“Luhan ssi, fighting!” she cheered. Luhan let out a smile. It was pretty hard to pull considering he wanted to rip someone’s hair.

“Where is the princess?” Luhan asked the guards when he reached the gate.

“She was running…” the guard trailed with a blank expression. “The princess was running!”

“What?” Luhan sighed inwardly. Was everyone in the palace insane?! “Where did she go?!” He pressed. The guard pointed straight. He was about to say something else but Luhan didn’t wait to hear it.

It was pretty easy to find Yoona. She stood out like a sore thumb with her attire and the fact that she was running like a mad woman didn’t help to camouflage her either.

“The guard was being serious…” Luhan couldn’t help but chuckle. Yoona looked like a flailing chicken and she wasn’t running very fast either. Luhan knew he could catch up to Yoona easily so he just continued enjoying himself by standing still. Did she want to go shopping this much?

Yoona turned to see if Luhan had followed her and at that moment she tripped. Luhan’s eyes widened as he watched Yoona fall. He could see the anger register on her face when she saw him which soon turned to shock. After a few moments, he collected himself and ran to Yoona.

“Are you okay?!” Yoona lay faced down on the floor. As soon as she heard Luhan’s voice she picked herself up.

“O..of course I would be! Who do you think I am?! I..I’m the-”

“The Princess, I know.” Luhan scanned over Yoona to see if she was injured. Her right knee was bleeding but apart from that she didn’t seem hurt anywhere else. He sighed and hauled her whole body over his shoulders. Ignoring her protests, he carried her back to the palace.

“Yah! Are you not going to put me down!?” Yoona shouted whilst hitting Luhan’s back multiple times. This man would be the end of her. Luhan put Yoona down in her nap room on her bed, not really caring for being gentle.

“Do you have a death wish?!” Yoona continued. “You really don’t know the power I have. If I wanted, I could make your whole family poor!”

“Luhan ssi.” A palace attendant knocked on the door. Luhan opened it and she handed him a first aid kit along with a wet cloth and a dry cloth, soap and a bowl of warm water.

“Thank you.” Luhan smiled. The attendant smiled back with dreamy eyes.

When Luhan returned to Yoona’s side she threw him the dirtiest look she could pull off. She was about to complain yet again but hushed when she realised what Luhan was doing.

Luhan pressed the cloth firmly against Yoona’s wound causing Yoona to flinch. It hurt but she wasn’t going to show that to Luhan. When the bleeding had finally stopped he picked up the dry cloth and using the soap and warm water, cleaned the area.

“This will hurt a bit.” He warned when he began to apply a cream.

“A bit?” Yoona gritted her teeth. “You call this a bit?” It was taking her all her strength not to make a sound.

“I’m nearly done.” He opened up the first aid kit and produced an elastic bandage which he wrapped around her knee and then cut off. Taking a last look at his work, he nodded to himself. “Causing more work for me.” He sighed loudly. Yoona brushed away any thoughts of being nice to him and grimaced.

“I hope you didn’t expect a thank you because this is your job!” she scowled.

“No I didn’t. How could a manner less princess like you ever produce a thank you anyway?” Luhan muttered loud enough for Yoona to hear.

“Y…yah! You’ve only worked for me for a week! How can you label me as manner less when you barely know me?”

“It’s not rocket science to conclude your manner less after everything I’ve witnessed so far.” Luhan rolled his eyes.

“Leave this room!” Yoona was bright red. Her fists were clenched up and her teeth gritted. Luhan obeyed gratefully and took his leave to stand outside the door. All of Yoona's shouting had gotten to his sensitive ears. Hwayoung greeted him immediately as he exited the room. It seemed she had been waiting for him.

“Ohh Luhan ssi!” She giggled. “How did it go?” Luhan rolled his eyes.

“Don’t even ask.” He slumped against the walls. “And you can drop the honorifics since we’ll be around each other a lot.”

“We will?” she asked hopefully.

“Yeah. You’re the princess’ attendant and I’m her bodyguard. We’re both cursed to be constantly around her.”

“Ohh!” Hwayoung mentally smacked herself for thinking he meant something more. “Well you’ll get used to it, Lu-han.” She smiled widely.

“I’m not sure about that…” Luhan trailed.

The princess’ hadn’t left her nap room for four hours after the incident. Luhan was beginning to get a bit worried so he decided to check on her. Opening the door slowly, he looked around the room. There was no one there. As panic began to rise within him, Luhan went inside to look closer. He was glad to see Yoona slumped against the door.

“God, she seriously scared me!” He slowed down his breathing. He thought he was done for but thankfully the God’s weren’t fed up with him yet. “What is she doing sleeping there anyway?” He lifted Yoona’s extremely light body easily and carried her out of the room.

“Excuse me!” Luhan caught the attention of the one of the palace attendants. She looked at him curiously as he was carrying Yoona bridal style. “Err…where is the princess’ bedroom?”

“….uhh take those stairs and then the third door, go to the fifth door on that hallway.”

“Thank you.” Luhan pushed Yoona back into place and followed the directions. He came upon a door which looked the same as every other in the palace. It didn’t look special or anything. “Is this the right room?” Luhan shook his head and opened the door with his leg.

The room inside was huge and grand. The four poster king sized bed caught his attention first. Luhan walked over and laid Yoona on the bed. He looked around the room and then the view caught his attention. It was splendid. The windows were enormous and gave a beautiful view of a mountain. The gardens were just outside which meant cherry and plum blossom’s also graced the view. Luhan tore his eyes away and was about to leave the room when a photo frame caught his attention. It wasn’t on the desk but thrown on the floor. Luhan guessed it probably fell by accident and picked it up. At closer inspection he noticed it was a photo of the King, young Yoona and a woman who was obviously the late Queen. They were all smiling brightly though Luhan couldn’t help but feel distaste at the sight of the King. He placed the frame on the desk and smiled at the thought that Yoona kept this photo.

“She probably misses her mother a lot…” he glanced at Yoona who was facing the other way. "Even if she is a brat, she's still a human and a girl at that."

“She’s a liar. I don’t miss her.” Yoona spat. Luhan jumped at her words. Everyone seemed to be scaring him these days. And what was with her suddenly talking when she seemed to be asleep? Luhan ran his hands through his hair. “Leave.” Yoona commanded sternly. Her words had a hinge of coldness which took Luhan aback because no matter what she had said to him, it sounded like she never really meant it. This time he felt she really did. Had he done something wrong? Luhan shrugged it off and left the room.

“But…why did she call the Queen a liar?” Luhan muttered to himself.

Great chapter although I'm hurting alongside Yoona's character, I have to admit it was a great chance to see a very strong side of Yoona. Cough Luhan you shall regret rejecting the likes of Im Yoona cough
Beautiful chapter and I especially loved Hwayoung's support for Yoona and also the King's support for Luhan as a bodyguard
