Yearning

‘Seungri, look there!’ Jiyong suddenly ran up to a small wine shop, pointing to the red notice stuck on the wall. he smiled widely, ‘this shop is out for sale, shall we take over it?’

‘take over this shop?’ Seungri walked over to read it, a confused look on his face. ‘Kwon Jiyong, where do we get the time and leisure to set up a shop here?’

Even if they didn’t consider the fact that Kwon Jiyong was a wanted criminal, hunted by various clans, what about his sect that he was leading? Didn’t he need to handle its affairs? Also right now the imperial court was rife with political unrest and it was only a matter of time before the flimsy appearance of a peaceful country would be torn apart by turmoil. Moreover, the martial arts world had also been thrown into chaos thanks to the works of the Sun Moon sect, and right now, Kwon Jiyong was talking about settling down in this town, and setting up a business here?

‘I think it would be fun! How about we try it for 2 weeks? After we have our fill, we’ll just sell it or rent it out?’ Jiyong slung his arm over Seungri’s shoulder and whispered into his ear, ‘let us try to live like normal people. I promise, just 2 weeks. For these 2 weeks I will order my sect members to lie low and not do anything. You will not be in any trouble.’

Seungri saw the excited look on Jiyong’s face and could only nod in agreement. They took down the notice and were about to go speak to the owner when Seungri stopped Jiyong, ‘I want to be the shop owner.’

‘Then what about me?’ Jiyong threw Seungri a glance.

Seungri hooked a finger under Jiyong’s chin and pulled him closer, winking, ‘you can be the shop owner’s wife.’

Jiyong pulled back and was about to bite the finger that was still hanging in the air but Seungri drew it back quickly. Before he could say anything else, Seungri had already rushed into the shop with the notice, shouting, ‘shop owner, are you selling out this shop?’

Jiyong had no choice but to follow behind.

It didn’t take long before Seungri settled on a price with the shop owner. After he paid, the two of them stamped their fingerprints in red on the contract. Jiyong watched as Seungri discussed the wine business with the owner, sitting at a table and enjoying his tea under the rare winter’s sun. By the time Seungri was done, it was already afternoon and the previous shop owner had packed his bags and left. The shop was officially theirs.

Seungri closed the doors of the shop and turned to Jiyong, ‘Come, pay your respects to the shop owner.’

Jiyong chuckled and bowed, ‘Good day sir.’

‘This shop is in really good condition, everything is in place. There’s even a small house with a courtyard at the back where we can live. It’s really not bad,’ Seungri said contentedly as he checked out the shop, touching the furniture. ‘The price is reasonable, we can easily earn back the cost.’

Jiyong walked up to Seungri and wrapped his arms around him from the back, ‘I’m hungry, go and make food for me.’

Smiling, Seungri looked down at Jiyong's hands and unwound himself from his arms. He turned and said graciously, ‘Madam Wife, please wait for a while. Your husband will now go prepare a delicious meal for you.’

‘Lee Seunghyun! Are you really not afraid to die,’ Jiyong glared at Seungri, who only stuck his tongue out at Jiyong, before walking to the courtyard.

‘Lee Seunghyun…going around with a sum of money enough to pay for a shop, and paying for one just because I said I wanted it, such a naive person,’ Jiyong thought, taking both their bags and headed for the courtyard as well.

The courtyard was wide enough, with a stone table, perfect for drinking nights. in summer, it would be cool enough to spend their days there as well, it would indeed be a wonderful place to live.

Just that, they couldn’t last here until summer...

Jiyong smiled ruefully and carried a folded table into the house, and took a cloth to clean it. He then entered the kitchen to check on Seungri.

‘How is it going?’ He looked at Seungri busy trying to start a fire under the stove, his face already blackened with dust and soot, so different from his cool swordsman image. Jiyong suddenly felt overwhelmed by a softening feeling in his heart and bent to help Seungri with the fire.

Finally they got a fire going and both their faces were dirty with soot. Seungri used a cloth and gently wiped away the stains on Jiyong’s face, ‘you shouldn’t have come in, look at all the dirt on your face.’

‘You are no better,’ Jiyong pointed out, ‘your face is worse than mine.’

‘Anyway, there’s only a bit of vegetable in the kitchen, why don’t you go and buy some meat back. I will have the veg dish ready when you return,’ Seungri said while throwing the veggies into the pan, and started cooking.

Jiyong looked at Seungri who was cooking seriously and quickly pressed a kiss hard on his cheek, leaving immediately without waiting for Seungri’s reaction.

‘You...’ Looking at the hastily disappearing back of Jiyong, Seungri mumbled, ‘Why do you need to run away so quickly.’ A shy smile bloomed unbidden on his face, and he continued to stir-fry the vegetables.

Such a simple yet wonderful life.

Jiyong shook his head while chewing, ‘Seungri, your food . Put less salt and don’t cook it for so long, look how dry the vegetables are!’

‘Why don’t you do it then,’ Seungri rolled his eyes and took almost all of the meat Jiyong bought onto his plate. ‘You eat the veggies, I’ll have the meat.’

‘You are abusing your own spouse!’ Kwon Jiyong quickly grabbed the plate of meat and looking at the scraps left, glared at Seungri, ‘You are so hardhearted!’

Seungri laughed out loud and teased, ‘Hyung, you better finish the veggies, don’t waste food.’

Kwon Jiyong looked at the veggies that Seungri cooked, and after some hesitation, still continued to eat it. Actually though it didn’t taste as good as his own cooking, it still tasted better than the usual.

Almost like, a homey taste, something which he hadn’t experience before.

Dinner went by with their squabbling and remarkably, Jiyong had really finished the veggies. Lee Seunghyun looked at the empty plate and grinned foolishly before starting to clear the table. Jiyong also took a cloth to clean the table.

Such a refreshing yet mundane life.

After cleaning up, they went to bed. On such a cold day, of course one would want to burrow under the blankets with a heater after washing the dishes.

Jiyong quickly got into bed after changing, smirking at Seungri who was still changing. ‘Husband, did you have fun addressing me as your madam wife today?’

Seungri took a glance at Jiyong’s smirk and forced himself to speak coolly, ‘Well, I bought this shop, the bed that you are lying on is mine, the food that you ate today I cooked. I am the one taking care of you, if you are not my wife, what are you?’

‘Come to bed quickly,’ Jiyong shifted inside of the bed, patting the empty spot beside him. ‘It’s warmer to hug you.’

Seungri smiled and got under the covers, realized that it was warmed by Jiyong, and hugged him in satisfaction, ‘Such a good wife.’

Looking down at the person in his arms, Jiyong didn’t know how to respond and just run his fingers softly through Seungri’s hair, the two of them lying quietly, side by side.

When Seungri was about to fall asleep, Jiyong suddenly said, ‘The roof tiles submerged under thick snow, who will share the jade blanket with me?’*

Seungri felt his heart pinch a little, yet still pulled a smile and said to Jiyong, ‘Ain’t I sharing the blanket with you now?’

‘I just suddenly thought of this line, that’s all.’

‘This line is talking about dead people, and I’m not dead yet,’ Seungri relaxed his hold of Jiyong, ‘or you want me to die?’

Jiyong chuckled, ‘What use would I have of you dead? Come, it’s time to do some work.’ He turned and pressed Seungri under him, using his mouth to stop the words that were coming from Seungri’s lips. Seungri struggled a little, yet under Jiyong’s strength, he gave up and just let him be.

Oh well, just let him be wilful.

I would gladly give you my heart, so you would have me in your heart like you are in mine.**

*鸳鸯瓦冷霜华重,翡翠衾寒谁与共。

Pardon my noob translation… this is actually a line from the famous Chinese poet, Bai Juyi’s work, Song of Everlasting regret. The original meaning of the line is roughly the yearning of the emperor for his concubine (Yang Guifei).

**换我心为你心,始知相忆深。

Another poetic line which I screwed up… lol
