Baekhyun and Chanyeol had been close friends ever since they were trainees at SM. Baekhyun came a lot later than Chanyeol, and Chanyeol was the first person to speak to the smaller. Therefore they became best friends. Luckily, they debuted in the same group together. And MAMA era began.

Their relationship grew closer and closer, and the fans noticed it too. They saw the interactions Baekhyun and Chanyeol would make, the way they always cling onto each other. More like Chanyeol clinging onto Baekhyun like a giant teddy bear and Baekhyun being oblivious of it all. Whenever Chanyeol shows his affection for the smaller in public, Baekhyun would just smile and play along, but he kept on rejecting the taller. All the members knew he was just playing hard-to-get, because Baekhyun's face would always betray him by being red and flustered whenever the giant pabo was around. Even though Baekhyun was harsh on his words, he still liked having Chanyeol beside him. No matter how many times Chanyeol gets rejected by the arrogant prince, he never gives up.

The fans caught it all. And the ship Baekyeol/Chanbaek had started.

Despite their closeness, Baekhyun tried to keep this relationship a friendly onel. He let the giant hug him, sleep with him (not in that way), and sometimes even a goodnight kiss on the forehead. But nothing more than that. He accepted the taller's show of affection, but he never returns the gestures. He knew he had to follow the company's policy. No dating within 5 years of debut, and certainly not with a guy. SM would definitely not approve of their gay relationship. Therefore, Baekhyun only played along as he kept his heart locked up.
