Hyukjae couldn’t sleep.

He flipped over in bed and opted to watch his beautiful boyfriend sleeping peacefully next to him, without a care in the world, like there wasn’t anything major going to happen in the next week. Sighing, he lightly ran his fingers over the cutely scrunched up forehead, tapping multiple times until the little scrunch dissipated. Donghae looked like an angel with the moonlight trickling through the curtains highlighting his best features, even when he was sleeping like a baby. At times Hyukjae wondered what he did to deserve such an amazing partner in Donghae.

Donghae must have felt the light brushes and sensed that Hyukjae was awake. A sleepy hand came to bat away Hyukjae’s inquisitive fingers. The still figure groaned softly in his sleep. “Hyuk, go to sleep.”

The dancer brushed away a few strands of Donghae’s fringe falling perfectly over his face. “I can’t sleep, baby. You know why.”

Grunting, Donghae peeked at his boyfriend and snuggled further into the blankets. “I’m cold. Cuddle.”

Hyukjae hummed and gladly obliged, gathering the warm body into his arms and inhaling the younger’s intoxicating scent. It had always used to have an effect on him in lulling him to sleep but today was different. Even the musky smell of his precious other half couldn’t make the jittery feeling in his heart go away. He ran a few fingers through his own dark brown hair, sighing in regret.

Tomorrow, they would all be gone.

“Hyuk, we have to go,” Donghae gently reminded the dancer. “Manager hyung is waiting downstairs.”

“I don’t wanna go,” Hyukjae pleaded quietly, biting his lower lip. “Can I stay here instead?”

Donghae shook his head. “We really can’t. I don’t want hair all over my place.”

Hyukjae sighed and gave in. “Okay, babe.” He chastely kissed the younger on the chin then nuzzled his neck. “I can’t believe you’re the one who’s convincing me into actually doing this thing,” he grumbled light-heartedly, making his boyfriend grin softly.

“That’s why I’m your boyfriend.”

Hyukjae trembled hard when the razor glided smoothly across his head, long locks of dark brown hair tumbling down to the white polished marble. He shut his eyes tightly and bit on his lower lip until it started bleeding, refusing to look at himself in the mirror even when his hairdresser asked him to lift his head. He already could feel a tear or two squeezing out of his eyes and he quickly fought to blink them away. He couldn’t afford to look weak in front of the other people, but inside, his heart was torn in two.

His beautiful long hair that he’d been growing for more than a decade, his crown of pride, his source of comfort, his pride and glory… gone. He couldn’t bear to look in the mirror. His hair had been his most prized asset since his debut days. Back when he was called ‘ugly’ and ‘disgraceful’, he diverted their attention by growing out his hair and changing his hair colour or style every few weeks. Sure he’d been scolded by a few concerned fans who were worried about healthy hair for him, but he didn’t spend tens of thousands of won on hair care products just to let his hair get damaged without proper care. His hair was usually the talk of the town and he was proud of it. In fact, the rude comments about him being ugly and looking like a monkey eventually disappeared once he put the main focus on his hair. People even started calling him beautiful after that. It simply meant the world to him.
