First Moves

Social Ladder
______ opened the doors to the library, her heart racing with excitement. She hated to admit it, but she had developed the typical schoolgirl crush; the kind that got her heart beating fast just anticipating seeing Chanyeol in the hallways, the kind that caused daydreams to overtake her mind during classes and free time.

She had never expected to fall for the lovable nerd this quickly. When he had first been assigned to be her tutor, she had barely even seen  him as a friend. He was simply a nice guy that was helping her out, but he wasn't a loser or a dork in her eyes either.

And now she was practically infatuated with him- only after one simple date. She wasn't sure if she was desperate or if there were real feelings involved. It felt real, and she wasn't one to be that needy for a boy, but she was still surprised at how quickly her feelings had escalated in her heart.

She made her way over to the table and smiled sitting down beside the man. "Hi, oppa," she greeted softly, looking up at his smooth, babyish face. She couldn't help but laugh softly to herself admiring his huge, black glasses; somehow they looked completely normal on him.

"Hi, _____!" he grinned down at her and she looked at his perfectly white teeth in amazement. She wondered if he ever experienced sadness or anger; he always seemed cheerful and full of energy even in the worst of situations.

"I wanted to talk to you about something," she said slowly, barely biting her lip hopefully. She had been a bit anxious all day about telling Chanyeol that her friends wanted to meet him.

Chanyeol's eyes immediately widened at the seemingly terrifying words. Had he done something wrong? No, she had probably just realized that she couldn't possibly be seen with the school nerd. Were people making fun of her for it?

She saw his expression and quickly shook her head, widening her eyes. "No, no, oppa, I'm not going to say anything bad!" she explained, relieving him greatly. "I actually wanted to ask you something.."

The boy barely exhaled to himself, a bit flushed from his paranoid thoughts. But he looked at her curiously, barely tilting his head. "Ah? What is it, _____?"

"Do you want to meet my friends?"

He immediately widened his eyes again, barely freezing. "Y-your friends? Like.. the scary ones..?"

She blinked and laughed, looking up at him amused. "Scary? Trust me, they are nowhere near scary," she comforted him, slowly taking his hand and squeezing it gently. It made him forget all about her question- their first public display of affection after their date. He looked around with wide eyes wondering if anyone was watching, but as long as he was himself, no one cared about what the nerd was doing even if he was with a girl. He then looked back down at their hands and smiled slowly, squeezing hers back with excitement before looking at her a bit curiously.

"Do they want to see me?"

She nodded truthfully. "I told them about our date and they want to meet you. Especially Luhan." She decided to leave out Kai's annoyance; he didn't need to hear any of that.

"O-okay.." Chanyeol stuttered, a bit surprised. He wondered if this would turn out like the movies; the nerdy boy gets accepted into the popular group because of some cool thing he did, and completely abandons his nerdy friends. No, Chanyeol refused to abandon Baekhyun, even if ______'s friends were the nicest people on Earth. But what would become of his friend, if Chanyeol became a part of this entire new friend group?

"Wait, ______?" he quickly spoke again, biting his lip. She smiled looking up at him, tilting her head in concern. "Neh, oppa?"

"Can.. can my friend Baekhyun come, too?"

She suddenly remembered Luhan mentioning that Chanyeol did indeed have a friend, but she realized the name hadn't come up. Baekhyun. She realized that she did recognize the name; Baekhyun had ranked second in the senior class. It didn't surprise her that the two were friends.

She couldn't help but smile at Chanyeol's cuteness; he looked like a little boy asking his mother for candy with his wide eyes and slightly pouty lips. "Of course he can," she agreed, unable to resist playing with the boy's black hair. He widened his eyes in surprise but slowly smiled again, laughing amused.

"What are you doing?"

She giggled and pulled her hands back. "Nothing," she smiled and tilted her head. "Does tomorrow after school work for you? Will Baekhyun-ssi be free then?"

"I can drag him away from his homework for an hour or two," Chanyeol smiled, slowly and bravely taking her hand. "It's fine."

She held his hand under the table happily and nodded. "Araso. Now.." She looked back to the books and papers on the table, sighing. "I guess we should get to work."

Their tutoring session went smoothly; in fact, it was one of the best ones they had had together. They would talk in between, but they still managed to focus on getting ______'s assignments done. It only made him happier- they could work so well together. His heart would race when _______ would slowly take his hand as he corrected her work, making him want to linger a little longer on each problem, when in reality he could correct each one within seconds. Sometimes he would find himself staring at her as she wrote, his mind running with thoughts and daydreams and scenarios he hoped would happen in real life. Other times she would be staring at him, admiring his adorable ears, big eyes, and flawless face.

Yet they both had no idea how infatuated the other was.

4:30 came around, and Chanyeol wished desperately that he could go back in time. He had come to hate this time. But would it be different now that the two were closer?

"Chanyeol oppa," she suddenly said softly as she gathered her things, "you asked me out on our first date... so can I ask you on a second one?" She smiled up at him a bit shyly but eagerly, her bright eyes looking up into his.

He looked at her in surprise before his lips slowly curled upwards, unable to hide his flashing white teeth. He had never met a girl like this before. In the stereotypical high school world, the guys had to make the first move every single time- something Chanyeol had always worried about, considering he was so awkward and nervous all the time.

But now here was a girl asking him out, and he couldn't think of anything that would make him happier.

"Of course you can," he replied in his soft, low voice, grin plastered on his face. "What did you... what did you have in mind?"

She looked thoughtful, slinging her bag over her shoulder. "Well, I have to get home and finish up a history project.. but maybe later tonight we could go to-" she suddenly stopped talking and slowly smiled deviously. "Ah, you kept our date a secret. I'm going to keep this one a secret too~!"

He blinked and slowly laughed, liking this girl more and more. "Okay, I'll look forward to it," he said a bit shyly, still smiling widely.

"I'll come to your house at around 7, okay?" she said, smiling happily. She could barely contain her excitement. After being with Jaekyung for so long, having a nice, normal date would be a refreshing change.

"Okay," Chanyeol nodded slowly, smiling happily. He had never gone out at 7 PM before on a weekday. 'Wait until Baekhyun hears this!'

Chanyeol looked outside the window, biting his lip excitedly. His sister had helped him get dressed, much to his embarrassment, but he had to admit he looked good. He was only wearing a simple white T-shirt, black jacket, and jeans, but it was different compared to his normal look consisting of a white button down shirt, light brown blazer, tie, and dark pants.

And no, his school did not have a uniform.

When he saw the girl walk up to his driveway, he immediately grinned in delight. They had only found out recently that the two lived fairly close to each other, and he couldn't be happier. He rushed to the door then paused, wondering if it would be creepy if he opened it before she even rang the bell.

He opened it anyways, unable to contain his excitement.

"Hi, _____," he greeted happily, his cheeks slightly flushed. She blinked in surprise before laughing softly, coming up to the steps. "Hi there, Chanyeol oppa." She smiled playfully, her eyes twinkling as usual as studied her date with interest. "You look good!"

"So do you," he replied bravely, his low voice a bit soft as he smiled back at her. She was wearing a light, slightly oversized blue sweater with white shorts and a gray beanie. It wasn't extravagant, but Chanyeol hadn't been expecting anything too fancy. He loved the simple clothing she wore unlike the girls in school who practically wore dresses and skirts everyday.

"Aww, thank you," she giggled softly, her cheeks barely reddening. "Are you ready to go?"

"De! We should go before my sister starts asking-"

"CHANYEOLLIE! Is she here?!" ______ blinked in surprise seeing a girl rush down the stairs, squealing in delight. She looked a bit older, but her face was extremely similar to Chanyeol's. ______ couldn't help but laugh softly at Chanyeol's now extremely red face.

"Noona!! We're leaving now!" he whined, barely pouting. It took ______ all the will power she had to not playfully poke his cute lower lip with her finger.

"Chanyeol oppa, it's okay!" she said instead, laughing softly and turning to his older sister bowing respectfully. "Annyeonghaseyo. My name is ________."

The older girl smiled excitedly, approaching closer. "My name is Park Yura. Aigoo~ you have no idea how glad I am that my baby brother finally found someone!"

"I'm not a baby!!"

"And you're so pretty, too! You must have made the first move, right? This one here is just so shy, he can barely talk to me without blushing!"

"That is not true!!"

______ laughed again; she was already starting to like this family, and she hadn't even met his parents yet. "Ah, thank you, Yura-ssi," she giggled slightly, taking Chanyeol's hand and squeezing it comfortingly seeing his bright red cheeks.

"Call me unnie!" the girl grinned, and ______ almost thought she was looking at Chanyeol. "Now have fun on your date, okay?? Aish, I wish umma were here to see this. She wanted to meet you so badly!"

Chanyeol turned even redder, clearing his throat and pulled gently on ______'s hand. "Okay, let's go now..!"

She laughed and smiled at Yura. "I'd love to meet her sometime," she said politely and truthfully, nodding her head. "I'll pay another visit!" She turned towards the door (mainly because Chanyeol was dragging her) and waved to his sister, laughing softly. "Bye, unnie!"

"Bye, you two! Chanyeol, don't screw this up!" the older girl laughed playfully, quickly closing the door before Chanyeol could protest.
