Race 05. Her Offer
Drifting HeartsL.Joe approached her cautiously, it wasn't exactly that scary to be around her. She looked like she had a warm heart but she was surrounded by others and she kept a straight face on. She acted like she didn't want to let them in on her emotions. They were strangers to her and she planned to keep it that way.
It wasn't until her opponent, Dongwoo got out of his car and walked over to her that she smiled warmly. He went up to her and gave her a hug. "Hoya owes me some cocktails, Dongwoo oppa." Aria said proudly. "And you owe me 20 bucks."
"You always let me believe I'm going to win and then you kick my ." Dongwoo said sadly. He tightened his grip around her neck, pulling her into a headlock.
"Hey, I have to give you chance right?" She joked cockily, as she pulled herself out of it by poking his stomach.
"Whoa. I thought I stood a chance." Dongwoo remarked. "I guess not, all hail the Queen of the track." He dramatically bowed down his hands towards her and soon everyone around them began to follow.
"Queen of the track," They chanted and Aria became embarrassed. She turned away from everyone and waited for an opening to walk through to get away. Dongwoo managed to escape by backing up while bowing away from her. The crowd that she created with the mere mention of her name was insane. Her legion of fans were unstoppable and they all worshipped the ground that she walked on. Getting herself free seemed very unlikely.
"This way, Aria." Eric said as he freed her from the worshipping crowd. He led her off to the side and L.Joe followed him meekly. To be in her very presence was overwhelming, he could feel that she was superior to him in this area and she radiated it.
"Who's your friend, Eric?" Aria asked him as they slowed down, walking back to the warehouse. She gestured at L.Joe's orange hair.
"This guy, the newbie. L.Joe and his gang somewhere over there." Eric answered passively. They walked towards the warehouse and he led the way, "You want a beer?" He asked her.
"Nahhh, Hoya is treating me to cocktails later." Aria replied, "Thanks, though."
Eric waved his hand at her and said, "No worries. I'm going to go get a beer then." He left them be and smiled happily.
"L.Joe huh?" She asked him with a nod. "I was wondering if what you would look like."
"Yeah. That's me." He said meekly. "You're really good." He twiddled his thumbs, besides himself in her presence. He had the chance to talk to her, the legend and he was wasting this opportunity.
"I hear that a lot. If you have a better pickup line, then feel free to use it." Aria said dismissively. She was tired of all the guys that worshipped the ground she walked on. She wanted someone who felt they could be her equal. Not better than her, but not below her either. Someone who treated her like she was a normal person.
"It wasn't a pickup line. But I can see you don't like me talking to you." L.Joe responded as he backed away from her and started to look for his brothers.
Aria sighed as she took in his words, he didn't sound like he was trying to get in her pants. Now she felt bad that she had been mean to him. "How did your race go?" She called after him. "You know, against Minwoo."
"How did--?" He started when she interrupted him.
"Word gets around fast here." She answered simply before nodding at him to answer her previous question.
"We lost. My older brother CAP was driving." L.Joe answered. "He thinks he's the best driver out of all of us."
Aria laughed a little, "Driving on the streets and driving here are two totally different worlds. Now, you're 5k in the hole and drowning." She remarked.
"Yeah, but we need the money. Or else, we wouldn't be here." L.Joe said sadly. He remembered that Sunho hyung was the entire reason why they had to be there. The money for the hospital bills were important and they had to take care of them.
She noticed something about him, something different from all the others. Everyone else came here for fun, to sightsee, to compete and get better. But he was different, he had a purpose here. Something that needed to be done. She sighed thinking back to what Mia had said. She was going to get so much crap for this.
"I could teach you some things." She offered him. "You and your brothers, I mean."
L.Joe paused as his brain processed what she said. The girl who won every race she had ever been in was offering a newbie like him help? "…I'm sorry, what?" He asked.
"I'm not going to repeat myself. Either you're in or you're out. If you're in, I expect to you at the Snake Garage on Downey Spike Place at 9:00AM sharp. There's clearly a lot of work to be done if you're losing against Minwoo." She said clearly. Her authority bared down on him as he stood there frozen. She had really offered to help teach him.
And his brothers but they were useless. He would get to see her again. And maybe actually win a race for Sunho hyung. He was actually glad he followed Eric now.
