Element 1: Undefeated

I Have to Win

“The winners of the 13th annual MNET masters tournament are, TEAM BLACK ECLIPSE!!”

I stood on in the center of the bright arena. Spotlights illuminated the crystal stage as thousands of other elementals applauded me.

“WAY TO GO, MAN! You did it!” My partner, and best friend, Joker, placed his arms around my shoulders. I couldn’t hide my smile as I glanced over the audience.

“You won, Hyung! You really beat everyone!!” Our maknae was hopping up and down in his place as the announcer handed me the large crystalline trophy. Nam shin took the trophy from my hands as he bounced around the stage. He held it above his head for everyone to see and Joker couldn’t hold back from dancing. I walked over to the edge and looked down into the audience of spectators, held back by the glass dome. I could see many faces. Several scowls of those defeated, but mainly smiles from celebrating fans. Among the sea of roaring spectators, a single one managed to catch my eye.

The entire area went silent as I gazed into the eyes of the most beautiful woman I’ve ever seen. She was an average heighted woman; No maybe shorter than average, with fair skin and brown, no, blue...maybe green eyes. Her black hair reached just above her shoulders... Actually It was auburn, no, amber hair. Red? Orange? Blonde? Perhaps it wasn’t that length at all. Maybe it was shorter... no longer. Maybe she was taller. No shorter. Wait I almost got it.

            “Doojoon! Wake up!”

My eyes snapped open to meet the gaze of my purple haired friend. “ACK!” I fell back in my chair. “You’re not my dream girl!”

“I sure hope not.” Junhyung pulled me to my feet before adjusting his glasses on his eyes. “Does this mean you finally figured out your ideal type?”

I ruffled my hair a bit before gazing down. “No. She still eludes me.” I glanced around the empty classroom before taking a look at the digital clock displayed on the computerized black board. “You let me sleep through class, again!”

“You just looked so peaceful.” He joked before placing a small, coke flavored lollipop into his mouth. “Come on. You look like you could use some rest before tonight. Last night’s match was brutal.”

“It wasn’t that bad.” I stepped out of the classroom with my purple haired dongsaeng following close behind. “You had a harder time than me.”

“No kidding. For a high schooler, that Totomato kid was no joke.” I chuckled as we exited the university.

“You know you’re not supposed to use those names on the surface.”

“Not like anyone heard me. Besides, I don’t know the kid’s birth name”

I rolled my eyes before heading into the parking lot. As we approached my silver convertible, I glanced over at Junhyung. “So where to? It’s too early to pick up Dongwoon.”

Junhyung relinquished a heavy sigh, leaning against the passenger side of my car. “I have to get home. I have homework to finish.”

“Oh yeah. Ms. Choi said if you miss one more assignment, you’ll be withdrawn from the course.”

“Yet you sleep through all her classes and still pass. What the hell! I swear, that woman has it out for me.”

“Geography’s not that hard if you just do the homework.”

“Think what you want, Doojoon, but, personally, I think her entire class is complete Bull-”

“Excuse me?!” The said teacher approached my car. Her black work bag hung securely over her shoulders.

            “G-G.Na?!”

Our teacher struck Junhyung upside the back of his head and I couldn’t help but crack a smile. “That’s Ms. Choi on the surface. You’re lucky I’m not allowed to wash you away right here and now.”

“Yah! Ms. Choi! What’d I do?”

“You better have your paper on my desk by morning, or you're out of here, Yong Junhyung.” She smiled and waved to me before climbing into her yellow van parked next to mine. She pulled away and I couldn’t help but laugh at my unfortunate dongsaeng.

“What did I tell you. She has it out for me! She never threatens you.”

            “Well, I do the homework.”

Junhyung jumped up, landing in the passenger side of my car, and I drove away, blasting my favorite music. Junhyung leaned back on the upholstery, closing his eyes. It was going to be a long night.

I stretched my arms, glancing around the underground stadium. A couple hundred people were in attendance as we walked down toward the caged off arena. Once reaching the benches on the side, Junhyung slipped on his favorite black, fingerless gloves and switched out his normal glasses for a pair of wide sunglasses. “Ready, DJ?”

I nodded, adjusting my black jacket over my shoulders.

“So who are you facing today, Hyung?” Dongwoon stood behind me, his glove covered hand lying softly on my shoulders.

“We are facing a new team. They’re called Aegyo Storm.”

“Aegyo Storm?” Junhyung laughed. “Are they trying to be targeted?”

“Don’t let your guard down, Joker. They could be better than you think. You underestimated The Matoki last night and look where that got you.”

Junhyung groaned, rubbing his cheek. It’s a good thing we elementals heal fast. “That stupid Totomato.”

“Did someone say my name?” A pink haired boy emerged from the audience, a large blue mask lying softly on his chin.”

“Hey Zelo,” Dongwoon waved at the boy.

“Hey, Hyung,” The boy responded as he approached our dongsaeng.

“You two know each other?!” Junhyung yelled at our tall maknae.

“Duh, hyung. We go to the same school. ‘Cept he’s still a freshman.” He giggled before turning back to his dongsaeng. “You really gave Joker a fight last night.”

“Don’t forget, Nam Shin. I still won.” Junhyung declared.

“You’re team may be undefeated for now,” Totomato exclaimed. “But be aware, The Matoki are coming for you.”

“Toto! Come on! We’re up!” The young boy gave Dongwoon a ‘thumbs up’ before running across the room to his black haired hyung, Shishimato. I could see fire in the 20 year old’s eyes as he glared at me. Why wouldn’t he be mad, after the thrashing I gave him the night before?

“Nam shin,” I glanced at my dongsaeng as he stared at the match occurring before him. “Nam Shin!”

            “What, Hyung!”

“I tell you this every night. Be ready to fight at any time. Who knows, Joker may not pull through tonight.”

“Hey!” Junhyung yelled. “And what about you, Leader?”

I smirked before returning my gaze to the two battlers in the arena. “I never lose.”

The time came for our match with Aegyo Storm. We had watched The Matoki defeat F.T. Island and we saw girls of Tae Ti Seo shatter the dreams of Orange Caramel. Junhyung was up first and I could tell he was fired up, even behind his dark sunglasses.

“It’s now time for our third match of the evening,” The MC announced from the center of the ring. “…the undefeated favorites, Black Eclipse vs. newcomers, Aegyo Storm!”

The crowd cheered as Junhyung nonchalantly leaned against the high chain link fence, surrounding the arena.

“Our first battle! The cool as ice, Joker!”

The crowd cheered when Junhyung’s nom de guerre was called. He waved to the audience before turning to his short yet muscular opponent.

“…Versus, the touch yet y, Ace Junior!”

The brawny boy blew a kiss toward the audience before turning toward Junhyung.

“KICK HIS , JOKER!” I heard G.Na yelling from the audience and I couldn’t help but stifle a laugh.

“Ready?” The MC hovered above the arena, before softly landing on a ledge above the stadium. “FIGHT!”

Within an instant, AJ shot a large bolt of lightning from his palm. Luckily, Junhyung’s was quick to react and put up a shield of ice. AJ took off toward the older boy and jumped over his shield. He enveloped his foot in electricity before colliding it into Junhyung’s side. Junhyung stumbled back as his opponent covered his fist in pure electricity. He threw a punch at Junhyung, but the Joker was able to dodge. He instantly formed a blade of pure ice and slashed across his opponent’s stomach.

I could see the rage welling up in AJ’s eyes. He narrowed them before taking off toward Junhyung at amazing speed. I could only watch as the blitzkrieg boy delivered a terrifyingly fast series of punches and kicks to my dongsaeng. Junhyung coughed up a small amount of blood and I could hear his ribs cracking.

Before, AJ could deliver his final blow, Junhyung simply stood, a smirk appearing on his face. AJ ran at the cocky boy but was instantly stopped in his tracks. “What?” The brawny fighter muttered out before looking down at his legs. His eyes widened as he noticed that both his feet were encased in red ice.

“You know, you’re pretty fast, brat.” Junhyung approached the boy, wiping blood from his mouth. You may be a tougher opponent than that rabbit kid from yesterday.”

AJ struggled to get out of the ice, but the more he struggled, the faster the ice spread around his legs.

“You have a lot of guts, brat, but you’re a hundred years too early to face an opponent like me.” A giant ball of ice formed around Junhyung fist as his opponent’s eyes widened in fear. “Close your eyes. This is gonna hurt.”

With a powerful blow to the stomach, Junhyung was able to knockout his opponent. The crowd cheered their hardest, chanting ‘Joker’ and ‘Black Eclipse.’

            “And the winner is, Joker!”

A doe-eyed boy rushed into the arena before pulling out his unconscious friend. Is that pretty boy my opponent?

Junhyung walked over to us before nearly collapsing on the bench.

“Way to go, Hyung.” Dongwoon cheered before helping Junhyung to sit up.

“That kid... was fast.” Junhyung’s breathing was rough and shaky, so I gave him my water bottle.

“Hyung, should we take you to the hospital?” Dongwoon asked.

“What good would that do?” Junhyung answered, placing his hand over his chest. “You know that, by tomorrow, this’ll all be healed.”

Junhyung was right. We, elementals, had an inhuman regeneration process that allowed us to heal any injury within days, but Junhyung’s, in particular, was the fastest. He could recover in mere minutes.

I stood up looking at my dongsaeng. “Just take it easy, Joker. I’ll finish this up fast.” I walked into the arena as the MC landed from his perch across the stadium.”

“The second battle of the third match is about to begin. On this side,” He ushered to me. “…The Baddest of badasses. The leader of ‘Black Eclipse. The untouchable, unstoppable, undefeated, DJ!!” The crowd began to roar as I waved to them. I smirked before turning towards my opponent and my jaw dropped. You’ve gotta be kidding me?

A small blonde boy was leaning against the chain link fence. He kept glancing around the arena and back to his teammates.

“His opponent. The prince of aegyo. Leader of Aegyo Storm. Let’s hear it for YangYo!” Surprisingly enough, members of the crowd cheered for the little guy. He smiled out at the audience before returning his gaze to me and chuckling. Oh he’s so going down.

“Both fighters ready?” I stretched out my arm as the MC flew back up onto his safe perch.

            “FIGHT!”

I extended my fist and long snakes of pure black energy were shot toward YangYo. The boy simply smiled, a touch of light surrounding his hand. I caught a glimpse of his golden eyes as he used his palm to deflect my attacks.

I narrowed my eyes and extended my shadow to reach just below YangYo’s feet. I smirked as the young boy began to sink into the dark void beneath him. Strangely enough, the child didn’t seem worried in the slightest. He smiled and covered his hands in the same light aura from earlier. As he slammed his palms atop my shadow, the darkness around him dissipated and he was instantly freed from the inky black void.

Finally, YangYo went on the attack. With his hands still enveloped in light energy, the boy came at me with his fingers extended. He began to uses the bright aura as daggers, extending from his fingertips. The child was fast, but luckily, I was faster. I dodged each of his attacks before delivering a blow of my own. A pulse of dark energy erupted from my palm, directly into YangYo’s chest. The boy slid backwards, but remained on his feet, breathing hard.

I gathered my aura into orbs of dark energy. I shot the first ball at the child but he was unwilling to give up. He dodged the attack and I gathered another dark energy orb. I shot attack after attack, but he was still able to dodge. When I increased the speed of my dark spheres, the boy stopped dodging and covered himself in a cloak of light aura. He used his hands to cut through each of my orbs as through my attacks were a bunch of leaves. What the hell?!

The boy jumped over me, spinning in the air. The light of his aura shimmered and for a brief second, I caught a glimpse of his golden eyes. I felt my heart begin to race as he landed behind me. I spun around and faced the boy. He smirked and I froze. I couldn’t fire another attack at him. What’s wrong with me?

Before I could figure out anything around me, the boy blindsided me with a powerful blast of light energy. I was slammed against the chain-link fence and collapsed on the ground. I heard a gasps erupt from the audience as everything around me faded into darkness. What just happened?
