The Best Friend
Description
My name is Junghye, and my friendship with Sulli is a good example of how opposite attracts.
If Sulli is an animal, she would be a puppy--cute, bubbly, friendly, and loved by everyone--while I’ll be a chameleon—quiet, reserved, and barely distinguishable from its surrounding.
If we are flowers, she would be the rose—striking, bold; always becoming the main attraction of the bouquet—while I’ll be the baby's breaths—small, innocent; used as the backdrop for the larger blooms.
It would be a lie if I say that I’m never jealous of her who always stays under the spotlight. Sometimes, I also wish to be noticed by others as well. However, I don’t really mind being outshined all the time since I really love her too. I am the best friend, after all.
But when I fall in love, will I still be okay with only being the best friend?
Foreword
"You are Kim Junghye, right? Can I talk to you for a while?"
I look up to see a tall senior smiling at me with his full lips. My eyes widen at the realization of who the guy is. I nod quickly and stand up before letting him to lead me out of the class room.
"My name is Shin Yuhan, from class 2-A,” he says without any hesitation. “And, um..." He pauses as he suddenly scratches the back of his head nervously, "can you possibly pass this to Sulli?"
He passes me a white envelope with Sulli's name written on it and a white rose. Without missing a beat, I accept it.
"Sure," I say with a small smile on my lips, "I'll make sure that she gets this. I can't guarantee how it will turn out, though."
Yuhan lets out a nervous yet melodious chuckle in response. "Yes, I understand. Thank you, Junghye-ssi."
After another exchange of smiles, he leaves me watching his retreating back with a sigh. This isn't the first time that the guy I have a crush on asks for my help to confess to Sulli, and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't be the last time either. I shake my head fervently and remind myself of Sulli; of how her small eyes turn into twinkling crescents and her plump lips curves upwards. In an instant, my heart feels lighter. Her happiness is mine too so I definitely shouldn’t let my own feelings become an obstacle.
I am her best friend, after all.
an: the 'I' character, Junghye, is a girl. This story will be much lighter than my usual ones.
