Elision and Assimilation
Description
Why did you come back after so many years?
Why couldn't you just stay away?
Things were fine up until you came along. After you left me, I adjusted to my new life, to my new surroundings.
All without you.
So, you leave me no choice. Just as you had done years ago, I'm deleting you from my life, for you are the consonant cluster that I want to avoid.
In terms of linguistics, elision is the deletion of a letter or sound to avoid consonant clusters – namely three consonant clusters. Assimilation is changing a sound to compliment its neighbouring sounds, borrowing when necessary.
Foreword
I'm back with my fourth fic~~
So, I thought about this storyline around the same time as my Epicenter fic, but decided to write that one first because I was in a fantasical mood LOL Anywho, this plot came to me during my Linguistics class. We were discussing sounds and pronunciations, and the phonetic & phonological changes people do when they speak. What got me thinking of a plot was the word 'library'. My prof stated that many people drop the r in the middle since it's a consonant cluster. So, they end up saying 'libary' rather than 'library'.
Funny how stories can come to you in such odd situations.
